| 1 | Thermal expansion of kyanite at ambient pressure:An X-ray powder diffraction study up to 1000℃显示文摘The thermal expansion coefficients of kyanite at ambient pressure have been investigated by an X-ray powder diffraction technique with temperatures up to 1000℃.No phase transition was observed in the experimental temperature range.Data for the unit-cell parameters and temperatures were fitted empirically resulting in the following thermal expansion coefficients:α_a = 5.8(3)×10^(-5).α_b = 5.8 (1)×10^(-5),α_c = 5.2(1)×10^(-5),andα_V = 7.4(1)×10^(-3)℃^(-1),in good agreement with a recent neutron powder diffraction study.On the other hand,the variation of the unit-cell anglesα,βand y of kyanite with increase in temperature is very complicated,and the agreement among all studies is poor.The thermal expansion data at ambient pressure reported here and the compression data at ambient temperature from the literature suggest that,for the kyanite lattice,the most and least thermally expandable directions correspond to the most and least compressible directions,respectively. | Xi Liu Qiang He Hejing Wang Michael E. | 2 | Compressibility of a natural kyanite to 17.5 GPa显示文摘The compressional behaviour of a natural kyanite,(Al1.99Fe0.01)SiO5,has been investigated to about 17.5 GPa at 300 K using a diamond-anvil cell and synchrotron X-ray diffraction.The pressure-volume data fitted to the third-order Birch-Murnaghan equation of state(EoS) yield an isothermal bulk modulus(K0T) of 192 ± 6 GPa and pressure derivative(K00T) of 6 ± 1.When K00T is fixed as 4,the derived K0T is 201 ± 2 GPa.These values are in excellent agreement with most experimental determinations in the literature.Consequently,it can be concluded that the compressibility of kyanite under high pressures has been accurately constrained. | Xi Liu Sean R. | 5 | GLOBAL MANUFACTURING VIRTUAL NETWORK (GMVN): A REVISITING OF THE CONCEPT AFTER THREE YEARS FIELDWORK显示文摘The idea of the global manufacturing virtual network (GMVN) was introduced in 2000 in order to highlight an emerging as well as an alternative manufacturing system which will have strong impacts on industry and implications to management theory. During the last three years, more than thirty companies - based in the electronics, bio-pharmaceuticals, garment, and home electronics appliance industries - have been studied in the UK and China. The research project addresses the emergence of the collaborative manufacturing phenomenon at three levels - sector, system and enabling technology. This paper summarises preliminary research findings from fieldwork conducted over the last three years. It seeks to clarify the characteristics and functionality of GMVN through the case studies and to contrast it to other types of business model, such as the multinational corporations (MNC) and international strategic alliances (ISAs).
