1New eolian red clay sequence on the western Chinese Loess Plateau linked to onset of Asian desertification about 25 Ma ago显示文摘The expansion of inland Asia deserts has considerably influenced the environmental, social and economic activities in Asia. Aridification of inland Asia, especially timing of the initiation of Asian desertification, is a contentious topic in paleoclimatology. Late Cenozoic eolian loess-red clay sequences on the Chinese Loess Plateau, which possess abundant paleoclimatic and paleo-environmental information, can be regarded as an indicator of inland Asia desertification. Here we present a detailed magnetostratigraphic investigation of a new red clay sequence about 654 m in Zhuanglang located at the western Chinese Loess Plateau. Sedimentological, geochemical, mineralogical, and quartz morphological lines of evidence show that the red clay is of eolian origin. Magnetostratigraphic correlations indicate that this core sequence spans from 25.6 to 4.8 Ma, and typical eolian red clay appears as early as 25 Ma. This extends the lower limit of the red clay on the Chinese Loess Plateau from the previously thought early Miocene back into the late Oligocene. This new red clay record further implies that the inland Asia desertification was initiated at least by the late Oligocene. This sequence provides a unique high-resolution geological record for understanding the inland Asia desertification process since the late Oligocene.QIANG XiaoKe AN ZhiSheng SONG YouGui CHANG Hong SUN YouBin LIU WeiGuo AO Hong DONG JiBao FU ChaoFeng WU Feng LU FengYan CAI YanJun ZHOU WeiJian CAO JunJi XU XinWen AI Li 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,1:73
2Multi-scale validation strategy for satellite albedo products and its uncertainty analysis显示文摘Coarse-resolution satellite albedo products are important for climate change and energy balance research because of their capability to characterize the spatiotemporal patterns of land surface parameters at both the regional and global scales. The accuracy of coarse-resolution products is usually assessed via comparison with in situ measurements. The key issue in the comparison of remote sensing observations with in situ measurements is scaling and uncertainty. This paper presents a strategy for validating 1-km-resolution remote sensing albedo products using field measurements and high-resolution remote sensing observations. Field measurements were collected to calibrate the high-resolution(30 m) albedo products derived from HJ-1a/b images. Then, the calibrated high-resolution albedo maps were resampled(i.e., upscaled) to assess the accuracy of the coarse-resolution albedo products. The samples of field measurements and high-resolution pixels are based on an uncertainty analysis. Two types of coarse-resolution albedo datasets, from global land surface satellite(GLASS) and moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer(MODIS), are validated over the middle reaches of the Heihe River in China. The results indicate that the upscaled HJ(Huan Jing means environment in Chinese and this refers to a satellite constellation designed for environment and disaster monitoring by China) albedo, which was calibrated using field measurements, can provide accurate reference values for validating coarse-resolution satellite albedo products. However, the uncertainties in the upscaled HJ albedo should be estimated, and pixels with large uncertainties should be excluded from the validation process.PENG JingJing LIU Qiang WEN JianGuang LIU QinHuo TANG Yong WANG LiZhao DOU BaoCheng YOU DongQin SUN ChangKui ZHAO XiaoJie FENG YouBin SHI Jian 2015Science China Earth Sciences2015,58,4:5

4A triboelectric/electromagnetic hybrid generator for efficient wind energy collection and power supply for electronic devices显示文摘Harvesting energy from ambient environment has been considered as a promising strategy for driving portable electronic devices in a sustainable way. A wind driven triboelectric-electromagnetic hybrid nanogenerator has been fabricated to convert wind energy into electricity. It is composed of an electromagnetic generator(EMG) and a triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG) with the output power of 35 and 0.32 mW, respectively when the wind speed is 5 m/s. Generally, TENG shows a low current output with a high voltage output characteristic, on the contrary the EMG shows a high current output and a low voltage output. This hybrid nanogenerator overcomes these problems and exhibits comprehensive and efficient performance on scavenging energy. Moreover, in view of the output performance and charging ability of the hybrid nanogenerator, it shows high stability, making it suitable for charging capacitors or batteries and driving portable electronics sustainably. A new structure of integrated TENG and EMG was designed to harvest wind energy, which shows potential applications in portable and small device power supply system, especially in the areas of remote mountains, deserts, islands, etc., as emergency power supply.XU GuanPing ZHENG YouBin FENG YanGe MA ShaoChen LUO Ning FENG Min CHEN ShouGang WANG DaoAi 2021Science China(Technological Sciences)2021,64,9:2

6New starch capsules with antistatic,anti-wear and superlubricity properties显示文摘Adsorption of drug powder is caused by triboelectrification on the surface of starch capsule during filling process.Furthermore, high wear rate and poor water lubricity also hinder the further practical applications of traditional starch capsule. To solve these problems,a glycerol-modified starch capsule with perfect anti-triboelec-trification and enhanced lubrication performance was fabricated.Hydrogen bond between glycerol and starch molecules could reduce the bound water content on the capsule surface and thus realizes anti-triboelectrification.By adding glycerol,a three-tier structure composed of starch-glycerol-water is formed through hydrogen bonding on the surface of the starch film, which has been proven to be favorable for lubrication performance. When 5% glycerol is added, the short-circuit current(I_(sc))of starch-based triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG)is reduced by 86%,and the wear volume of the starch film is reduced by 89%.Underwater lubrication condition, the lubrication performance of the starch-glycerol film can reach the super lubricated level with a friction coefficient of about 0.005.This work provides a new route to obtain modified starch capsules with improved anti-triboelectrification property, reduced wear rate and superlubricity property.Nannan WANG Youbin ZHENG Yange FENG Liqiang ZHANG Min FENG Xiaojuan LI Daoai WANG 2021Frontiers of Materials Science2021,15,2:0
