| 1 | Chronic complications of spinal cord injury显示文摘Spinal cord injury(SCI) is a serious medical condition that causes functional, psychological and socioeconomic disorder. Therefore, patients with SCI experience significant impairments in various aspects of their life. The goals of rehabilitation and other treatment approaches in SCI are to improve functional level, decrease secondary morbidity and enhance health-relatedquality of life. Acute and long-term secondary medical complications are common in patients with SCI. However, chronic complications especially further negatively impact on patients' functional independence and quality of life. Therefore, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of chronic secondary complications in patients with SCI is critical for limiting these complications, improving survival, community participation and health-related quality of life. The management of secondary chronic complications of SCI is also important for SCI specialists, families and caregivers as well as patients. In this paper, we review data about common secondary longterm complications after SCI, including respiratory complications, cardiovascular complications, urinary and bowel complications, spasticity, pain syndromes, pressure ulcers, osteoporosis and bone fractures. | 2 | Leptin treatment ameliorates acute lung injury in rats with cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis显示文摘AIM:To determine the effect of exogenous leptin on acute lung injury (ALI) in cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis (AP). METHODS:Forty-eight rats were randomly divided into 3 groups. AP was induced by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of cerulein (50 μg/kg) four times,at 1 h intervals. The rats received a single i.p. injection of 10 μg/kg leptin (leptin group) or 2 mL saline (AP group) after cerulein injections. In the sham group,animals were given a single i.p. injection of 2 mL saline. Experimental samples were collected for biochemical and histological evaluations at 24 h and 48 h after the induction of AP or saline administration. Blood samples were obtained for the determination of amylase,lipase,tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-a,interleukin (IL)-1β,macrophage inflammatory peptide (MIP)-2 and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule (sICAM)-1 levels,while pancreatic and lung tissues were removed for myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity,nitric oxide (NOx) level,CD40 expression and histological evaluation. RESULTS:Cerulein injection caused severe AP,confirmed by an increase in serum amylase and lipase levels,histopathological findings of severe AP,and pancreatic MPO activity,compared to the values obtained in the sham group. In the leptin group,serum levels of MIP-2,sICMA-1,TNF-a,and IL-1b,pancreatic MPO activity,CD40 expression in pancreas and lung tissues,and NOx level in the lung tissue were lower compared to those in the AP group. Histologically,pancreatic and lungdamage was less severe following leptin administration. | 3 | Clinical probability and risk analysis of patients with suspected pulmonary embolism显示文摘BACKGROUND: Pulmonary embolism(PE) is one of the most frequent diseases that could be missed in overcrowded emergency departments as in Turkey. Early and accurate diagnosis could decrease the mortality rate and this standard algorithm should be defi ned. This study is to fi nd the accurate, fast, non-invasive, cost-effective, easy-to-access diagnostic tests, clinical scoring systems and the patients who should be tested for clinical diagnosis of PE in emergency department.METHODS: One hundred and forty patients admitted to the emergency department with the fi nal diagnosis of PE regarding to anamnesis, physical examination and risk factors, were included in this prospective, cross-sectional study. The patients with a diagnosis of pulmonary embolism, acute coronary syndrome or infection and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) were excluded from the study. The demographics, risk factors, radiological fi ndings, vital signs, symptoms, physicallaboratory fi ndings, diagnostic tests and clinical scoring systems of patients(Wells and Geneva) were noted. The diagnostic criteria for pulmonary emboli were: fi lling defect in the pulmonary artery lumen on spiral computed tomographic angiography and perfusion defect on perfusion scintigraphy.RESULTS: Totally, 90(64%) of the patients had PE. | 4 | Interactions of zinc and cadmium toxicity in their effects on growth and in antioxidative systems in tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum)显示文摘The interaction between zinc and cadmium was investigated in tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum). Ten-day-old seedlings were treated with 10 μmol/L CdCl 2 associated to different concentrations of ZnCl 2 (10, 50, 100, and 150 μmol/L). Zn supply clearly reduced Cd accumulation in leaves and simultaneously increased Zn concentration. Cd induced oxidative stress in leaves as indicated by an increase in thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) level and chlorophyll breakdown. Furthermore, compared with control, Cd-treated plants had significantly higher activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD, EC 1.15.1.1), whereas, catalase (CAT, EC 1.111.1.6), ascorbate peroxidase (APX, EC 1.11.1.11), and glutathione reductase (GR, EC 1.6.4.2) activities were significantly suppressed by Cd addition. Zn supplementation, at low level, restored and enhanced the functional activity of these enzymes (SOD, CAT, APX and GR) as compared to Cd-alone-treated plants. The beneficial effect of adequate Zn level on Cd toxicity was confirmed by a significant decrease in TBARS level and restoration of chlorophyll content. However, when Zn was added at high level in combination with Cd there was an accumulation of oxidative stress, which was higher than that for Cd or excess Zn alone treatments. | 5 | Microbial profile and antibiotic sensitivity pattern in bile cultures from endoscopic retrograde cholangiography patients显示文摘AIM:To identify the frequency of bacterial growth,the most commonly grown bacteria and their antibiotic susceptibility,and risk factors for bacterial colonization in bile collected from patients with different biliary diseases.METHODS:This prospective study was conducted between April 2010 and August 2011.Patients with various biliary disorders were included.Bile was aspirated by placing a single-use,5F,standard sphincterotome catheter into the bile duct before the injection of contrast agent during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticography (ERCP).Bile specimens were transported to the microbiology laboratory in blood culture bottles within an anaerobic transport system.Bacteria were cultured and identified according to the standard protocol used in our clinical microbiology laboratory.The susceptibilities of the organisms recovered were identified using antimicrobial disks,chosen according to the initial gram stain of the positive cultures.RESULTS:Ninety-one patients (27% male,mean age 53.7 ± 17.5 years,range:17-86 years) were included in the study.The main indication for ERCP was benign biliary disease in 79 patients and malignant disease in 12 patients.The bile culture was positive for bacterial growth in 46 out of 91 (50.5%) patients.The most frequently encountered organisms were Gram-negative bacteria including Escherichia coli (28.2%),Pseudomonas (17.3%) and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (15.2%).There were no significant differences between patients with malignant and benign disease (58% vs 49%,P = 0.474),patients with acute cholangitis and without acute cholangitis (52.9% vs 50%,P = 0.827),patients who were empirically administered antibiotics before intervention and not administered (51.4% vs 60.7%,P = 0.384),with regard to the bacteriobilia.We observed a large covering spectrum or low resistance to meropenem,amikacin and imipenem.CONCLUSION:We did not find a significant risk factor for bacteriobilia in patients with biliary obstruction.A bile sample for microbiological analysis may become a valuable diagnostic tool as it leads to more accurate selection of antibiotics for the treatment of cholangitis. | Muhsin Kaya Remzi Bestas Fatma Bacalan Ferhat Bacaksz Esma Gülsun Arslan Mehmet Ali Kaplan | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,27: | 13 |

| 7 | Estimation of total phenolic content,in-vitro antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of flowers of Moringa oleifera显示文摘Objective:To evaluate and compare the antioxidant potential and anti-inflammatory activity of ethanolic extract of flowers of Moringa oleifera(M.oleifera)grown in Oman.Methods:Flowers of M.oleiferawere collected in the month of December 2012 and identified by a botanist.Alcoholic extract of the dry pulverized flowers ofM.oleiferawere obtained by cold maceration method.The ethanolic flower extract was subjected to preliminary phytochemical screening as the reported methods.Folin-Ciocalteu reagent was used to estimate total phenolic content.DPPH was used to determinein-vitroantioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory activity of flowers was investigated by protein denaturation method.Results:Phytochemical analysis of extract showed presence of major classes of phytochemicals such as tannins,alkaloids,flavonoids,cardiac glycosidesetc.M.oleiferaflowers were found to contain 19.31 mg/g of gallic acid equivalent of total phenolics in dry extract but exhibited moderate antioxidant activity.The anti-inflammatory activity of plant extract was significant and comparable with the standard drug diclofenac sodium.Conclusions:The results of our study suggest that flowers ofM.oleiferapossess potent anti-inflammatory activity and are also a good source of natural antioxidants.Further study is needed to identify the chemical compounds responsible for their anti-inflammatory activity. | Fatma Alhakmani Sokindra Kumar Shah Alam Khan | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,8: | 7 |
| 8 | Molecular detection of monocyte chemotactic protein-1 polymorphism in spontaneous bacterial peritonitis patients显示文摘AIM: To investigate the association of the functional monocyte chemotactic protein-1(MCP-1) promoter polymorphism(A-2518G) with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis(SBP).METHODS: Fifty patients with post-hepatitis C liver cirrhosis and ascites were categorized into two groups; group Ⅰ included 25 patients with SBP and group Ⅱ included 25 patients free from SBP. In addition, a group of 20 healthy volunteers were included. We assessed the MCP-1 gene polymorphism and gene expression as well as interleukin(IL)-10 levels in both blood and ascitic fluid. RESULTS: A significant MCP-1 gene polymorphism was detected in groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ(P = 0.001 and 0.02 respectively). Group Ⅰ was associated with a significantly higher frequency of AG genotype [control 8(40%) vs SBP 19(76.0%), P < 0.001], and group Ⅱ was associated with a significantly higher frequency of GG genotype when compared to healthy volunteers [control 1(5%) vs cirrhotic 16(64%), P < 0.001]. Accordingly, the frequency of G allele was significantly higher in both groups(Ⅰ and Ⅱ) [control 10(25%) vs SBP 27(54%), P < 0.001 and vs cirrhotic 37(74.0%), P < 0.001, respectively]. The total blood and ascetic fluid levels of IL-10 and MCP-1 gene expression were significantly higher in group Ⅰ than in group Ⅱ. Group Ⅰ showed significant reductions in the levels of MCP-1 gene expression and IL-10 in the whole blood and ascetic fluid after therapy. CONCLUSION: MCP-1 GG genotype and G allele may predispose HCV infected patients to a more progressive disease course, while AG genotype may increase the susceptibility to SBP. | 10 | In vitro antibacterial and antitumor activities of some medicinal plant extracts, growing in Turkey显示文摘Objective: To investigate antibacterial and antitumor activities of 51 different extracts prepared with 3 types of solvents (water, ethanol and methanol) of 16 different plant species (Ajuga reptans (A. reptans) L., Phlomis pungens (P. pungens) Willd., Marrubium astracanicum (M. astracanicum) Jacq., Nepeta nuda (N. nuda) L., Stachys annua (S. annua) L., Genista lydia (G. lydia) Boiss., Nuphar lutea (N. lutea) L., Nymphaea alba (N. alba) L., Vinca minor (V. minor) L., Stellaria media (S. media) L., Capsella bursa-pastoris (C. bursa-pastoris) L., Galium spurium (G. spurium) L., Onosma heterophyllum (O. heterophyllum) Griseb., Reseda luteola (R. luteola) L., Viburnum lantana (V. lantana) L. and Mercurialis annua (M. annua) L.) grown in Turkey was conducted. Methods: Antibacterial activity was evaluated with 10 bacteria including Streptococcus pyogenes (S. pyogenes), Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis), Escheria coli (E. coli), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa), Salmonella typhimurium (S. typhimurium), Serratia marcescens (S. marcescens), Proteus vulgaris (P. vulgaris), Enterobacter cloacae (E. cloacea), and Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) by using disc diffusion method. Antitumor activity was evaluated with Agrobacterium tumefaciens (A. tumefaciens)-induced potato disc tumor assay. Results: Best antibacterial activity was obtained with ethanolic extract of P. pungens against S. pyogenes . Ethanolic and methanolic extract of N. alba and ethanolic extract of G. lydia also showed strong antibacterial activities. Results indicated that alcoholic extracts especially ethanolic extracts exhibited strong antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Best antitumor activity was obtained with methanolic extracts of N. alba and V. lantana (100% tumor inhibition). Ethanolic extract of N. alba , alcoholic extracts of N. lutea , A. reptans and V. minor flowers, methanolic extracts of G. lydia and O. heterophyllum and ethanolic extract of V. lantana and aqueous extract of V. minor leaves exhibited strong tumor inhibitions. | 12 | 超声乳化术治疗假性剥脱综合征白内障患者的疗效分析(英文)显示文摘目的:评估在白内障超声乳化手术时使用适当的手术技巧及相应设备对假性剥脱综合征白内障患者的视力及术中、术后并发症的影响。方法:回顾性研究。选取53例67眼假性剥脱综合征白内障患者接受超声乳化及人工晶状体植入术。平均年龄71.68±9.96(53~89)岁,其中男性24例(45%),女性29例(55%),包括核性、皮质性及后囊下和成熟期的白内障。结果:核性白内障较其他类型更为常见(P=0.00)。术前平均最佳矫正视力为0.99±0.30(0.40~1.50)LogM AR,术后平均最佳矫正视力为0.32±0.31(0.00~1.00)LogM AR(P=0.00)。运用虹膜牵拉器12眼(18%)。囊袋张力环植入15眼(22%),其中按计划植入8眼(12%),未计划7眼(10%)。后囊破裂4眼(6%),其中玻璃体脱出2眼(3%),并接受前段玻璃体切割术;且由于后囊破裂较大,此2眼(3%)转为白内障囊外摘除术。持续性角膜水肿4眼(6%),前房反应5眼(7%)。人工晶体脱位4眼(6%),仅1眼(1.5%)需复位。后囊混浊并接受Nd:YAG激光后囊切开术13眼(20%)。结论:假性剥脱综合征白内障患者术后视力良好,但术中及术后可能出现的并发症包括后囊破裂,玻璃体脱出,转为白内障囊外摘除术,持续性角膜水肿,前房反应及人工晶状体脱位。为避免并发症的发生,适当的手术技巧和相应设备的使用在手术时是必不可少的。 | Servet Cetinkaya Yasemin Fatma Cetinkaya Zeynep Dadaci Nursen Oncel Acir | 2016 | 国际眼科杂志2016,16,6: | 4 |

| 14 | Micro RNAs and clinical implications in hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM To assess the role of some circulating miRNAs(miR-23a, miR-203, miR338, miR-34, and miR-16) as tumor markers for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS One hundred and seventy-one subjects were enrolled, 57 patients with HCC, 57 patients with liver cirrhosis(LC) and 57 healthy subjects as control group. Severity of liver disease was assessed by Child Pugh score. Tumor staging was done using Okuda staging system. Quantification of Micro RNA(miR-23a, miR-203, miR338, miR-34, and miR-16) was performed.RESULTS All studied miRNA showed significant difference between HCC and cirrhotic patients in comparison tohealthy control. miR-23a showed statistically significant difference between HCC and cirrhotic patients being higher in HCC group than cirrhotic. miR-23a is significantly higher in HCC patients with focal lesion size equal or more than 5cm, patients with multiple focal lesions and Okuda stage Ⅲ. At cutoff value ≥ 210, miR-23a showed accuracy 79.3% to diagnose HCC patients with sensitivity 89.47% and specificity about 64.91%. At cut off level ≥ 200 ng/mL, serum alpha fetoprotein had 73.68% sensitivity, 52.63% specificity, 43.75% PPV, 80% NPV for diagnosis of HCC.CONCLUSION MicroR NA 23a can be used as a screening test for early detection of HCC. | 16 | Treatment with NADPH oxidase inhibitor apocynin alleviates diabetic neuropathic pain in rats显示文摘Increased reactive oxygen species by the activation of NADPH oxidase(NOX) contributes to the development of diabetic complications.Apocynin,a NOX inhibitor,increases sciatic nerve conductance and blood flow in diabetic rats.We investigated potential protective effect of apocynin in rat diabetic neuropathy and its precise mechanism of action at molecular level.Rat models of streptozotocin-induced diabetes were treated with apocynin(30 and 100 mg/kg per day,intragastrically) for 4 weeks.Mechanical hyperalgesia and allodynia were determined weekly using analgesimeter and dynamic plantar aesthesiometer.Western blot analysis and histochemistry/immunohistochemistry were performed in the lumbar spinal cord and sciatic nerve respectively.Streptozotocin injection reduced pain threshold in analgesimeter,but not in aesthesiometer.Apocynin treatment increased pain threshold dose-dependently.Western blot analysis showed an increase in catalase and NOX-p47 phox protein expression in the spinal cord.However,protein expressions of neuronal and inducible nitric oxide synthase(n NOS,i NOS),superoxide dismutase,glutathion peroxidase,nitrotyrosine,tumor necrosis factor-α,interleukin-6,interleukin-1β,aldose reductase,cyclooxygenase-2 or MAC-1(marker for increased microgliosis) in the spinal cord remained unchanged.Western blot analysis results also demonstrated that apocynin decreased NOX-p47 phox expression at both doses and catalase expression at 100 mg/kg per day.Histochemistry of diabetic sciatic nerve revealed marked degeneration.n NOS and i NOS immunoreactivities were increased,while S-100 immunoreactivity(Schwann cell marker) was decreased in sciatic nerve.Apocynin treatment reversed these changes dose-dependently.In conclusion,decreased pain threshold of diabetic rats was accompanied by increased NOX and catalase expression in the spinal cord and increased degeneration in the sciatic nerve characterized by increased NOS expression and Schwann cell loss.Apocynin treatment attenuates neuropathic pain by decelerating the increased oxidative stress-mediated pathogenesis in diabetic rats. | Murat Olukman Aytül onal Fatma Gül celenk Yigit Uyankgil Türker cavusoglu Neslihan Düzenli Sibel ülker | 2018 | Neural Regeneration Research2018,13,9: | 4 |

| 18 | General characteristics of patients with electrolyte imbalance admitted to emergency department显示文摘BACKGROUND:Fluid and electrolyte balance is a key concept to understand for maintaining homeostasis,and for a successful treatment of many metabolic disorders.There are various regulating mechanisms for the equilibrium of electrolytes in organisms.Disorders of these mechanisms result in electrolyte imbalances that may be life-threatening clinical conditions.In this study we defined the electrolyte imbalance characteristics of patients admitted to our emergency department.METHODS:This study was conducted in the Emergency Department(ED) of Uludag University Faculty of Medicine,and included 996 patients over 18 years of age.All patients had electrolyte imbalance,with various etiologies other than traumatic origin.Demographic and clinical parameters were collected after obtaining informed consent from the patients.The ethical committee of the university approved this study.RESULTS:The mean age of the patients was 59.28±16.79,and 55%of the patients were male.The common symptoms of the patients were dyspnea(14.7%),fever(13.7%),and systemic deterioration(11.9%);but the most and least frequent electrolyte imbalances were hyponatremia and hypermagnesemia,respectively.Most frequent findings in physical examination were confusion(14%),edema(10%) and rales(9%);and most frequent pathological findings in ECG were tachycardia in24%,and atrial fibrillation in 7%of the patients.Most frequent comorbidity was malignancy(39%).Most frequent diagnoses in the patients were sepsis(11%),pneumonia(9%),and acute renal failure(7%).CONCLUSIONS:Electrolyte imbalances are of particular importance in the treatment of ED patients.Therefore,ED physicians must be acknowledged of their fluid-electrolyte balance dynamics and general characteristics. | Arif Kadri Balci Ozlem Koksal Ataman Kose Erol Armagan Fatma Ozdemir Taylan Inal Nuran Oner | 2013 | World Journal of Emergency Medicine2013,4,2: | 3 |

| 20 | TLR9 agonist enhances radiofrequency ablation-induced CTL responses, leading to the potent inhibition of primary tumor growth and lung metastasis显示文摘Radiofrequency ablation(RFA)is the most common approach to thermal ablation for cancer therapy.Unfortunately,its efficacy is limited by incomplete ablation,and further optimization of RFA is required.Here,we demonstrate that incubation at 65°C triggers more EG7 tumor cell death by necrosis than treatment at 45°C,and the 65°C-treated cells are more effective at inducing antigen-specific CD8^(+)cytotoxic T lymphocyte(CTL)responses after injection in mice than the 45°C-treated ones.Dendritic cells(DCs)that phagocytose 65°C-treated EG7 cells become mature with upregulated MHCII and CD80 expression and are capable of efficiently inducing effector CTLs in mouse tumor models.RFA(65°C)therapy of EG7 tumors induces large areas of tumor necrosis and stimulates CTL responses.This leads to complete regression of small(~100 mm^(3))tumors but fails to suppress the growth of larger(~350 mm^(3))tumors.The administration of the Toll-like receptor-9(TLR9)agonist unmethylated cytosine-phosphorothioate-guanine oligonucleotide(CpG)to DCs phagocytosing 65°C-treated EG7 cells enhances the expression of MHCII and CD40 on DCs as well as DC-induced stimulation of CTL responses.Importantly,the intratumoral administration of CpG following RFA also increases the frequencies of tumor-associated immunogenic CD11b−CD11c^(+)CD103^(+)DC2 and CD11b+F4/80+MHCII+M1 macrophages and increases CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)T-cell tumor infiltration,leading to enhanced CD4^(+)T cell-dependent CTL responses and potent inhibition of primary RFA-treated or distant untreated tumor growth as well as tumor lung metastasis in mice bearing larger tumors.Overall,our data indicate that CpG administration,which enhances RFA-induced CTL responses and ultimately potentiates the inhibition of primary tumor growth and lung metastasis,is a promising strategy for improving RFA treatment,which may assist in optimizing this important cancer therapy. | Aizhang Xu Lifeng Zhang Jingying Yuan Fatma Babikr Andrew Freywald Rajni Chibbar Michael Moser Wenjun Zhang Bing Zhang Zhaoying Fu Jim Xiang | 2019 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2019,16,10: | 3 |
