1DEM Modeling of Particle Breakage in Silica Sands under One-Dimensional Compression显示文摘A Discrete Element Method(DEM) model is developed to study the particle breakage effect on the one-dimensional compression behavior of silica sands. The ‘maximum tensile stress' breakage criterion considering multiple contacts is adopted to simulate the crushing of circular particles in the DEM. The model is compared with published experimental results. Comparison between the compression curves obtained from the numerical and experimental results shows that the proposed method is very effective in studying the compression behavior of silica sands considering particle breakage. The evolution of compression curves at different stress levels is extensively studied using contact force distribution, variation of contact number and particle size distribution curve with loading. It is found that particle breakage has great impact on compression behavior of sand, particularly after the yield stress is reached and particle breakage starts.The crushing probability of particles is found to be macroscopically affected by stress level and particle size distribution curve, and microscopically related to the evolutions of contact force and coordination number. Once the soil becomes well-graded and the average coordination number is greater than 4 in two-dimension, the crushing probability of parent particles can reduce by up to5/6. It is found that the average contact force does not always increase with loading, but increases to a peak value then decreases once the soil becomes more well-graded. It is found through the loading rate sensitivity analysis that the compression behavior of sand samples in the DEM is also affected by the loading rate. 2Recent advances in mobile edge computing and content caching显示文摘The demand for digital media services is increasing as the number of wireless subscriptions is growing exponentially.In order to meet this growing need,mobile wireless networks have been advanced at a tremendous pace over recent days.However,the centralized architecture of existing mobile networks,with limited capacity and range of bandwidth of the radio access network and low bandwidth back-haul network,can not handle the exponentially increasing mobile traffic.Recently,we have seen the growth of new mechanisms of data caching and delivery methods through intermediate caching servers.In this paper,we present a survey on recent advances in mobile edge computing and content caching,including caching insertion and expulsion policies,the behavior of the caching system,and caching optimization based on wireless networks.Some of the important open challenges in mobile edge computing with content caching are identified and discussed.We have also compared edge,fog and cloud computing in terms of delay.Readers of this paper will get a thorough understanding of recent advances in mobile edge computing and content caching in mobile wireless networks.Sunitha Safavat Naveen Naik Sapavath Danda B.Rawat 2020Digital Communications and Networks2020,6,2:6
3On the Security of Information Dissemination in the Internet-of-Vehicles显示文摘Internet of Vehicles(IoV) is regarded as an emerging paradigm for connected vehicles to exchange their information with other vehicles using vehicle-to-vehicle(V2V) communications by forming a vehicular ad hoc networks(VANETs), with roadside units using vehicle-to-roadside(V2R) communications. IoV offers several benefits such as road safety, traffic efficiency, and infotainment by forwarding up-to-date traffic information about upcoming traffic. For instance, IoV is regarded as a technology that could help reduce the number of deaths caused by road accidents, and reduce fuel costs and travel time on the road. Vehicles could rapidly learn about the road condition and promptly respond and notify drivers for making informed decisions. However, malicious users in IoV may mislead the whole communications and create chaos on the road. Data falsification attack is one of the main security issues in IoV where vehicles rely on information received from other peers/vehicles. In this paper,we present data falsification attack detection using hashes for enhancing network security and performance by adapting contention window size to forward accurate information to the neighboring vehicles in a timely manner(to improve throughput while reducing end-to-end delay). We also present clustering approach to reduce travel time in case of traffic congestion. Performance of the proposed approach is evaluated using numerical results obtained from simulations. 4Magnetic separation studies for a low grade siliceous iron ore sample显示文摘Investigations were carried out, on a low grade siliceous iron ore sample by magnetic separation, to establish its amenability for physical beneficiation. Mineralogical studies revealed that the sample consists of magnetite, hematite and goethite as major opaque oxide minerals where as silicates as well as carbonates form the gangue minerals in the sample. Processes involving combination of classification, dry magnetic separation and wet magnetic separation were carried out to upgrade the low grade siliceous iron ore sample to make it suitable as a marketable product. The sample was first ground and each closed size sieve fractions were subjected to dry magnetic separation and it was observed that limited upgradation is possible. The ground sample was subjected to different finer sizes and separated by wet low intensity magnetic separator. 5Characterization of dolochar wastes generated by the sponge iron industry显示文摘Solid wastes generated by the metallurgical industry contribute significantly towards the enhancement of environmental pollution. The handling, utilization, and safe disposal of these solid wastes are major concerns for the world. Dolochar is such a solid waste generated by the sponge iron industry. Investigations were carried out on the physical, mineralogical, and chemical characteristics for the efficient utilization of dolochar. The detailed studies on physico-chemical properties and petrography were carried out by optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Characterization studies revealed that the dolochar consists of quartz (free as well as locked), free lime, Fe particles, and Ca or Mg and/or Ca+Mg+Fe oxide phases. The washability data of-300 μm dolochar samples indicated that clean coal with 41wt% ash at 18% yield can be produced from dolochar with 78wt% ash. The studies further suggested that the liberation of the dolochar is hard to achieve for clear separation. 8Effectiveness of sodium silicate as gangue depressants in iron ore slimes flotation显示文摘The recovery of iron from the screw classifier overflow slimes by direct flotation was studied.The relative effectiveness of sodium silicates with different silica-to-soda mole ratios as depressants for silica and silicate bearing minerals was investigated.Silica-to-soda mole ratio and silicate dosage were found to have significant effect on the separation efficiency.The results show that an increase of Fe content in the concentrate is observed with concomitant reduction in SiO2 and Al2O3 levels when a particular type of sodium silicate at a proper dosage is used.The concentrate of 58.89wt% Fe,4.68wt% SiO2,and 5.28wt% Al2O3 with the weight recovery of 38.74% and the metal recovery of 41.13% can be obtained from the iron ore slimes with 54.44wt% Fe,6.72wt% SiO2,and 6.80wt% Al2O3,when Na2SiO3 with a silica-to-soda mole ratio of 2.19 is used as a depressant at a feed rate of 0.2 kg/t.Danda Srinivas Rao Tadiparthi Venkata VijayaKumar Sripada Subba Rao Swarna Prabhakar Guntamadugu Bhaskar Raju 2011International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2011,18,5:2
9Ore petrography of low-grade siliceous manganese ores from the Bonai-Keonjhar belt, Orissa, India: The influence of mineral-fabric on their beneficiation显示文摘Low grade siliceous manganese ores from the iron ore group of the Bonai-Keonjhar belt, Orissa, India are found mostly in shear zones. The ore characteristics of siliceous manganese ore samples from three differ- ent mines, viz. the Shankar (Barbil OMC lease hold area), the Sone-Patuli (Patmunda, OMM lease hold area), and the Musaghar (Roida, OMDC lease hold area), were studied. These siliceous manganese ores are of three types, respectively: (i) spongy-granular; (ii) massive-mosaic; and (iii) hard-mylonitized. The spongy-gran- ular type contains granular, saccharoidal quartz and the major manganese mineral present is pyrolusite. The second type contains well crystallized quartz and cryptomelane, while the third has cherty, fine grained quartz (mylonite) along with romanechite. All three ores were subjected to physical beneficiation under similar conditions. Both gravity and magnetic separation techniques were employed. The mineral-fabric of the ores has been correlated to the extent of their beneficiation using these physical techniques. Of these three ores only the spongy-granular type responded well to upgrading. The feed with 22% Mn content could be upgraded to 44% with a 28% yield and a 49% recovery. The good response to beneficiation of the spongy- granular sample could be due to the large euhedral crystals of pyrolusite and the friable nature of the sac- charoidal quartz.
