| 4 | Delving into the recent advancements of spinal cord injury treatment: a review of recent progress显示文摘Spinal cord injury(SCI) research is a very complex field lending to why reviews of SCI literatures can be beneficial to current and future researchers. This review focuses on recent articles regarding potential modalities for the treatment and management of SCI. The modalities were broken down into four categories: neuroprotectionpharmacologic, neuroprotection-non-pharmacologic, neuroregeneration-pharmacologic, neuroregeneration-non-pharmacologic. Peer-reviewed articles were found using Pub Med with search terms: 'spinal cord injury', 'spinal cord injury neuroregeneration', 'olfactory ensheathing cells spinal cord injury', 'rho-rock inhibitors spinal cord injury', 'neural stem cell', 'scaffold', 'neural stem cell transplantation', 'exosomes and SCI', 'epidural stimulation SCI', 'brain-computer interfaces and SCI'. Most recent articles spanning two years were chosen for their relevance to the categories of SCI management and treatment. There has been a plethora of pre-clinical studies completed with their results being difficult to replicate in clinical studies. | 5 | Characteristics of landslide in Koshi River Basin,Central Himalaya显示文摘Koshi River basin, which lies in the Central Himalayas with an area of 71,500 km2, is an important trans-boundary river basin shared by China, Nepal and India. Yet, landslide-prone areas are all located in China and Nepal, imposing alarming risks of widespread damages to property and loss of human life in both countries. Against this backdrop, this research, by utilizing remote sensing images and topographic maps, has identified a total number of 6877 landslides for the past 23 years and further examined their distribution, characteristics and causes. Analysis shows that the two-step topography in the Himalayan region has a considerable effect on the distribution of landslides in this area. Dense distribution of landslides falls into two regions: the Lesser Himalaya(mostly small and medium size landslides in east-west direction) and the TransitionBelt(mostly large and medium size landslides along the river in north-south direction). Landslides decrease against the elevation while the southern slopes of the Himalayas have more landslides than its northern side. Change analysis was carried out by comparing landslide distribution data of 1992, 2010 and 2015 in the Koshi River basin. The rainfallinduced landslides, usually small and shallow and occurring more frequently in regions with an elevation lower than 1000 m, are common in the south and south-east slopes due to heavy precipitation in the region, and are more prone to the slope gradient of 20°~30°. Most of them are distributed in Proterozoic stratum(Pt3ε, Pt3 and Pt2-3) and Quaternary stratum. | 6 | Application of artificial intelligence to forecast hydrocarbon production from shales显示文摘Artificial intelligence(AI)methods and applications have recently gained a great deal of attention in many areas,including fields of mathematics,neuroscience,economics,engineering,linguistics,gaming,and many others.This is due to the surge of innovative and sophisticated AI techniques applications to highly complex problems as well as the powerful new developments in high speed computing.Various applications of AI in everyday life include machine learning,pattern recognition,robotics,data processing and analysis,etc.The oil and gas industry is not behind either,in fact,AI techniques have recently been applied to estimate PVT properties,optimize production,predict recoverable hydrocarbons,optimize well placement using pattern recognition,optimize hydraulic fracture design,and to aid in reservoir characterization efforts.In this study,three different AI models are trained and used to forecast hydrocarbon production from hydraulically fractured wells.Two vastly used artificial intelligence methods,namely the Least Square Support Vector Machine(LSSVM)and the Artificial Neural Networks(ANN),are compared to a traditional curve fitting method known as Response Surface Model(RSM)using second order polynomial equations to determine production from shales.The objective of this work is to further explore the potential of AI in the oil and gas industry.Eight parameters are considered as input factors to build the model:reservoir permeability,initial dissolved gas-oil ratio,rock compressibility,gas relative permeability,slope of gas oil ratio,initial reservoir pressure,flowing bottom hole pressure,and hydraulic fracture spacing.The range of values used for these parameters resemble real field scenarios from prolific shale plays such as the Eagle Ford,Bakken,and the Niobrara in the United States.Production data consists of oil recovery factor and produced gas-oil ratio(GOR)generated from a generic hydraulically fractured reservoir model using a commercial simulator.The Box-Behnken experiment design was used to minimize the number of simulations for this study.Five time-based models(for production periods of 90 days,1 year,5 years,10 years,and 15 years)and one rate-based model(when oil rate drops to 5 bbl/day/fracture)were considered.Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO)routine is used in all three surrogate models to obtain the associated model parameters.Models were trained using 80%of all data generated through simulation while 20%was used for testing of the models.All models were evaluated by measuring the goodness of fit through the coefficient of determination(R2)and the Normalized Root Mean Square Error(NRMSE).Results show that RSM and LSSVM have very accurate oil recovery forecasting capabilities while LSSVM shows the best performance for complex GOR behavior.Furthermore,all surrogate models are shown to serve as reliable proxy reservoir models useful for fast fluid recovery forecasts and sensitivity analyses. | Palash Panja Raul Velasco Manas Pathak Milind Deo | 2018 | Petroleum2018,4,1: | 4 |

| 9 | 3D CFD validation of invert trap efficiency for sewer solid management using VOF model显示文摘Earlier investigators have numerically carried out performance analysis of the invert trap fitted in an open channel using the stochastic discrete phase model(DPM) by assuming the open channel flow to be closed conduit flow under pressure and assuming zero shear stress at the top wall.This is known as the fixed lid model.By assuming the top wall to be a shear free wall,they have been able to show that the velocity distribution looks similar to that of an open channel flow with zero velocity at the bottom and maximum velocity at the top,representing the free water surface,but no information has been provided for the pressure at the free water surface.Because of this assumption,the validation of the model in predicting the trap efficiency has performed significantly poorly.In addition,the free water surface subject to zero gauge pressure cannot be modeled using the fixed lid model because there is no provision of extra space in the form of air space for the fluctuating part of the water surface profile.It can.however,be modeled using the volume of fluid(VOF) model because the VOF model is the appropriate model for open channel or free surface flow.Therefore,in the present study,three-dimensional(3D) computational fluid dynamics(CFD) modeling with the VOF model,which considers open channel flow with a free water surface,along with the stochastic DPM.was used to model the trap efficiency of an invert trap fitted in an open rectangular channel.The governing mathematical flow equations of the VOF model were solved using the ANSYS Fluent 14.0 software,reproducing the experimental conditions exactly.The results show that the 3D CFD predictions using the VOF model closely fit the experimental data for glass bead particles. | Mohammad Mohsin Deo Raj Kaushal | 2016 | Water Science and Engineering2016,9,2: | 3 |

| 11 | Effect of Pre-treatment of α-Ketoglutarate on Cyanide-induced Toxicity and Alterations in Various Physiological Variables in Rodents显示文摘Objective To investigate the effects of pre-treatment of α-ketoglutarate (α-KG) on cyanide-induced lethality and changes in various physiological parameters in rodents. Methods The LD50 of potassium cyanide (KCN) given orally (po), intraperitoneally (ip), subcutaneously (sc) or intravenously (iv) was determined in male mice, in the presence or absence α-KG given po, ip or iv. α-KG was administered 10, 20 or 40 min prior to KCN at 0.50, 1.0 or 2.0 g/kg by po or ip route, and at 0.10, 0.20 or 0.40 g/kg by iv route. Protection index (PI) was calculated as the ratio of LD50 of KCN in the presence of α-KG (protected animals) and LD50 of KCN in the absence of α-KG (unprotected animals). In a separate experiment, several physiological variables viz. mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (RR), neuromuscular transmission (NMT) and rectal temperature (RT) were measured in anesthetized female rats pre-treated (-10 min) with po (2.0 g/kg) or iv (0.125 g/kg) α-KG and then administered sub-lethal (0.75 LD50) or lethal (2.0, 4.0 or 8.0 LD50) doses of KCN (po). Results PI of 4.52, 6.40 and 7.60 at -10 min, 3.20, 5.40 and 6.40 at -20 min, and 1.40, 3.20 and 5.40 at -40 min of po administration with α-KG was observed for 0.50, 1.0 and 2.0 g/kg doses, respectively, against KCN given by po route. When KCN was given ip, a PI of 3.38, 4.79 and 5.70 was observed for 0.50, 1.0 and 2.0 g/kg α-KG given ip (-10 min), respectively. A lower PI of 3.37, 2.83 and 2.38 was observed when KCN given sc was challenged by 2.0 g/kg α-KG given ip at -10, -20 or -40 min, respectively. Similarly, a PI of 3.37, 2.83 and 2.0 was noted when KCN given sc was antagonized by 2.0 g/kg α-KG given po at -10, -20 or -40 min, respectively. No appreciable protection was observed when lower doses of α-KG (ip or po) challenged KCN given by sc route. Pre-treatment of iv or po administration of α-KG did not afford any protection against KCN given po or iv route. Oral treatment of 0.75 LD50 KCN caused significant decrease in MAP and HR after 15 min, RR after 30 min and NMT after 60 min. There was no effect on RT. No reduction in MAP, HR, RR and RT was observed when rats received 2.0 or 4.0 LD50 KCN after pre-treatment of α-KG (po; 2.0 g/kg). However, no protection was observed on NMT. Protective efficacy of α-KG was not observed on MAP, HR, RR, and NMT decreased by 8.0 LD50 KCN. Decrease in MAP and NMT caused by 2.0 LD50 KCN (po) was resolved by iv administration of α-KG. Conclusions Cyanide antagonism by α-KG is best exhibited when both α-KG and KCN are given by po route. Thirty percent of bamboo species were recorded in tropical forests(0–900 m), 40% of species in sub-tropical forests(900–1,800 m), 17% of species in temperate forests(1,800–2,700 m), 9% of species in sub-alpine forests(2,700–3,500 m) and 4% of species in alpine vegetation(3,500–4,500 m). Bamboo is used for various purposes and its versatility qualifies it to be a multiple-use alternative to timber, food for villagers and for tribal in particular. Bamboo is also equally important to Red Panda(Ailurus fulgens), the state animal of Sikkim. We develop a list of bamboos occurring in Sikkim with their vernacular names, distributions and uses in the Himalayan state.
