| 1 | Transarterial chemoembolization for liver metastases from solid pseudopapillary epithelial neoplasm of pancreas: A case report显示文摘Solid pseudo-papillary epithelial neoplasm(SPEN) is a rare epithelial tumor of pancreas with a low malignant potential occurs most commonly in young females. We report a case of 40 years old woman presented withextensive liver metastasis from SPEN of pancreatic body for which she was operated four years ago. Due to the extensive nature of metastatic disease she was offered Transarterial chemoembolisation(TACE) using gemcitabine as chemotherapeutic agent. Short term follow up after a month of TACE with multiphase computed tomography showed > 90% resolution in the viable tumor with significant clinical improvement. TACE ensures targeted delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs in higher doses with least systemic toxicity and is more effective and safe than systemic chemotherapy. | 2 | Screening and characterization of extracelluar L-asparaginase producing Bacillus subtilis strain hswx88,isolated from Taptapani hotspring of odisha,India显示文摘Objective:To screen and isolate an eco-friendly,u thermophilic and potent L-asparaginase producing bacterium,with novel immunological properties that may obviates hypersensitivity reactions.Methods:In the present study baclerial strain isolated for extracellular L-asparaginase production from hotspring,identified by morphological,biochemical and physiological tests followed by t6S rDNA technology and the L-asparaginase production ability was tested by both semi quantitative and quantitative enzymatic assay.Result:The bacterial strain was identified as Bacillus sublilis strain hswx88(GenBank Accession Number JQ237656.1).The extracellular enzyme yielding capacity isolate Bacillus subtilis strain hswx88(23.8 IU/mL)was found to be 1.7 and 14.5 limes higher than the reference organism Pectobacterium carotovorum MTCC 1428(14.2 IU/mL)and Bacillus sp.BCCS 034(1.64 IU/mL).Conclusion:The isolate is eco-friendly and useful to produce bulk quantity of extracellular,thermophilic L-asparaginase for the treatment of various tumor cases and for preparation of acrylamide free fry food preparation. | Biswaprakash Pradhan Sashi K Dash Sabuj Sahoo | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013，3，12： | 2 |
| 3 | Potentials of GaP as millimeter wave IMPATT diode with reference to Si,GaAs and GaN显示文摘This paper presents the simulation results of DC,small-signal and noise properties of GaP based Double Drift Region( DDR) Impact Avalanche Transit Time( IMPATT) diodes. In simulation study we have considered the flat DDR structures of IMPATT diode based on GaP,GaAs,Si and GaN( wurtzite,wz) material. The diodes are designed to operate at the millimeter window frequencies of 94 GHz and 220 GHz. The simulation results of these diodes reveal GaP is a promising material for IMPATT applications based on DDR structure with high break down voltage( V_B) as compared to Si and GaAs IMPATTs. It is also encouraging to worth note GaP base IMPATT diode shows a better output power density of 4. 9 × 10~9 W/m^2 as compared to Si and GaAs based IMPATT diode. | 5 | Hepatocellular carcinoma xenograft supports HCV replication:A mouse model for evaluating antivirals显示文摘AIM: To develop a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) xenograft model for studying hepatitis C virus (HCV) replication in a mice, and antiviral treatment.METHODS: We developed a stable S3-green fluorescence protein (GFP) cell line that replicated the GFP-tagged HCV sub-genomic RNA derived from a highly efficient JFH1 virus. S3-GFP replicon cell line was injected subcutaneously into γ-irradiated SCID mice. We showed that the S3-GFP replicon cell line formed human HCC xenografts in SCID mice. Cells were isolated from subcutaneous tumors and then serially passaged multiple times in SCID mice by culturing in growth medium supplemented with G-418. The mouse-adapted S3-GFP replicon cells were implanted subcutaneously and also into the liver of SCID mice via intrasplenic infusion to study the replication of HCV in the HCC xenografts. The tumor model was validated for antiviral testing after intraperitoneal injection of interferon-α (IFN-α). RESULTS: A highly tumorigenic S3-GFP replicon cell line was developed that formed subcutaneous tumors within 2 wk and diffuse liver metastasis within 4 wk in SCID mice. Replication of HCV in the subcutaneous and liver tumors was confirmed by cell colony assay, detection of the viral RNA by ribonuclease protection assay and real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. High-level replication of HCV sub-genomic RNA in the tumor could be visualized by GFP expression using fluorescence microscopy. IFN-α cleared HCV RNA replication in the subcutaneous tumors within 2 wk and 4 wk in the liver tumor model. CONCLUSION: A non-infectious mouse model allows us to study replication of HCV in subcutaneous and metastatic liver tumors.
