3A study of quasi-absolute method in photon activation analysis显示文摘Relative methods, which are performed with the assistance of reference materials, are widely used in photon activation analysis(PAA). On the contrary, absolute methods, which are conducted without any reference material, are rarely applied due to the difficulty in obtaining photon flux. To realize absolute measurement in PAA,we retrieve photon flux in the sample via Monte Carlo simulation and raise a novel procedure—quasi-absolute method. With simulated photon flux and cross section data from existing databases, it is possible to calculate the concentration of target elements in the sample straightforwardly. 4Differences in Metabolic Stress Using a Breathing Restrictive Mask Compared to Hypobaric Hypoxia During Cycling at a Matched Workload显示文摘Purpose The Elevation Training Mask(ETM)has been assessed for its impact on exercise performance using acute and training protocols.Although the ETM is widely available to consumers,little research exists for validation of the ETM mask settings.Therefore,the purpose of this study was to compare physiological responses during exercise for the ETM mask settings against moderate hypobaric hypoxia.Methods Nine participants living at moderate altitude(1600-1650 m)rested(10 min)and cycled in hypobaric hypoxia simulating 2743 m(ALT),in hypobaric hypoxia simulating 1829 m with the ETM set to 914 m(ALT+ETM),and with the ETM set to 2743 m(ETM)in a randomized order.Participants cycled for 20 min at 60%VO_(2max)as determined by a maximal exertion test(VO_(2max))at baseline altitude.Oxygen consumption was measured throughout each test.Results There were no differences between conditions at rest.Repeated measures ANOVA showed the ALT condition elicited significantly greater VO_(2) compared to the ETM condition and 60%VO_(2max)at baseline altitude(P<0.05).Conclusion When cycling at a matched workload,the exercising VO_(2) was higher in the ALT condition than at the ETM mask setting of 2743 m and exercising VO2 during the ETM condition was similar to 60%VO_(2max)at baseline altitude.The results of this study indicate that the ETM did not produce additional metabolic stress compared to hypobaric hypoxia during steady-state exercise in moderate-altitude living individuals.Bryanne N.Bellovary Andrew D.Wells Zachary J.Fennel Jonathan M.Houck Desmond J.Millender Kelsey C.Bourbeau Christine M.Mermier 2022Journal of Science in Sport and Exercise2022,4,4:0
5Amplified fragment length polymorphism analysis supports the valid separate species status of Lucilia caesar and L.illustris (Diptera: Calliphoridae)显示文摘Common DNA-based species determination methods fail to distinguish some blow flies in the forensically and medically important genus Lucilia Robineau-Desvoidy.This is a practical problem,and it has also been interpreted as casting doubt on the validity of some morphologically defined species.An example is Lucilia illustris and L.caesar,which co-occur in Europe whilst only L.illustris has been collected in North America.Reports that these species shared both mitochondrial and nuclear gene sequences,along with claims that diagnostic morphological characters are difficult to interpret,were used to question their separate species status.We report here that amplified fragment length polymorphism profiles strongly support the validity of both species based on both assignment and phylogenetic analysis,and that traditional identification criteria based on male and female genital morphology are more reliable than has been claimed.Christine J.Picard Jeffrey D.Wells Anne Ullyot Knut Rognes 2018Forensic Sciences Research2018,3,1:0
