| 1 | Cumulative positive fluid balance is a risk factor for acute kidney injury and requirement for renal replacement therapy after liver transplantation显示文摘AIM To analyze whether fluid overload is an independent risk factor of adverse outcomes after liver transplantation(LT).METHODS One hundred and twenty-one patients submitted to LT were retrospectively evaluated.Data regarding perioperative and postoperative variables previously associated with adverse outcomes after LT were reviewed.Cumulative fluid balance(FB) in the first 12 h and 4 d after surgery were compared with major adverse outcomes after LT.RESULTS Most of the patients were submitted to a liberal approach of fluid administration with a mean cumulative FBover 5 L and 10 L,respectively,in the first 12 h and 4 d after LT.Cumulative FB in 4 d was independently associated with occurrence of both AKI and requirement for renal replacement therapy(RRT)(OR = 2.3;95%CI:1.37-3.86,P = 0.02 and OR = 2.89;95%CI:1.52-5.49,P = 0.001 respectively).Other variables on multivariate analysis associated with AKI and RRT were,respectively,male sex and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Disease Classification System(APACHE II) levels and sepsis or septic shock.Mortality was shown to be independently related to AST and APACHE II levels(OR = 2.35;95%CI:1.1-5.05,P = 0.02 and 2.63;95%CI:1.0-6.87,P = 0.04 respectively),probably reflecting the degree of graft dysfunction and severity of early postoperative course of LT.No effect of FB on mortality after LT was disclosed.CONCLUSION Cumulative positive FB over 4 d after LT is independently associated with the development of AKI and the requirement of RRT.Survival was not independently related to FB,but to surrogate markers of graft dysfunction and severity of postoperative course of LT. | Liana Codes Ygor Gomes de Souza Ricardo Azevedo Cruz D'Oliveira Jorge Luiz Andrade Bastos Paulo Lisboa Bittencourt | 2018 | World Journal of Transplantation2018,8,2: | 4 |

| 9 | Characterization Production Systems and Productivity Indices of Local Pigs of East Timor显示文摘The objective of this study was to evaluate the production system and productivity indices of local swine raised in subsistence production system in East Timor.About 1,096 respondents were interviewed in fitting villages in eight municipalities.In each village,10%of breeders were interviewed as respondents,using simple random method and the interviews based on established questionnaires.It was observed that about 80%-90%of total respondents still used subsistence production system.The result of descriptive statistical analysis showed that the average of piglets per litter was 4-6 and weight of piglets at birth was 0.97±0.22 kg.The age of weaning of piglets and the weaning weight was 3.94±0.72 months and 5.56±0.88 kg,respectively.The age of the first breeding gilts was 8-10 months;calving interval was 6-12 months.Productive period of females was 3-12 years,and the number of mortality rate of piglets was 0.17%to 1%per production period.Thus it was concluded that the subsistence production system could affect the productivity level of local pigs. | Graciano Soares Gomes Carlito de Araujo Mali Code | 2020 | Journal of Agricultural Science and Technology(A)2020,10,3: | 0 |
| 10 | Neglected tropical diseases risk correlates with poverty and early ecosystem destruction显示文摘Background Neglected tropical diseases affect the most vulnerable populations and cause chronic and debilitating disorders.Socioeconomic vulnerability is a well-known and important determinant of neglected tropical diseases.For example,poverty and sanitation could influence parasite transmission.Nevertheless,the quantitative impact of socioeconomic conditions on disease transmission risk remains poorly explored.Methods This study investigated the role of socioeconomic variables in the predictive capacity of risk models of neglected tropical zoonoses using a decade of epidemiological data(2007–2018)from Brazil.Vector-borne diseases investigated in this study included dengue,malaria,Chagas disease,leishmaniasis,and Brazilian spotted fever,while directly-transmitted zoonotic diseases included schistosomiasis,leptospirosis,and hantaviruses.Environmental and socioeconomic predictors were combined with infectious disease data to build environmental and socioenvironmental sets of ecological niche models and their performances were compared.Results Socioeconomic variables were found to be as important as environmental variables in influencing the estimated likelihood of disease transmission across large spatial scales.The combination of socioeconomic and environmental variables improved overall model accuracy(or predictive power)by 10%on average(P<0.01),reaching a maximum of 18%in the case of dengue fever.Gross domestic product was the most important socioeconomic variable(37%relative variable importance,all individual models exhibited P<0.00),showing a decreasing relationship with disease indicating poverty as a major factor for disease transmission.Loss of natural vegetation cover between 2008 and 2018 was the most important environmental variable(42%relative variable importance,P<0.05)among environmental models,exhibiting a decreasing relationship with disease probability,showing that these diseases are especially prevalent in areas where natural ecosystem destruction is on its initial stages and lower when ecosystem destruction is on more advanced stages.Conclusions Destruction of natural ecosystems coupled with low income explain macro-scale neglected tropical and zoonotic disease probability in Brazil.Addition of socioeconomic variables improves transmission risk forecasts on tandem with environmental variables.Our results highlight that to efficiently address neglected tropical diseases,public health strategies must target both reduction of poverty and cessation of destruction of natural forests and savannas. | Arthur Ramalho Magalhães Cláudia Torres Codeço Jens-Christian Svenning Luis E.Escobar Paige Van de Vuurst Thiago Gonçalves-Souza | 2023 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2023,12,2: | 0 |
