OPTIMAL CONTROL APPLIED IN AUTOMATIC CLUTCH ENGAGEMENTS OF VEHICLES显示文摘Start-up working condition is the key to the research of optimal engagement of automatic clutch for AMT.In order to guarantee an ideal dynamic performance of the clutch engagement,an optimal controller is designed by considering throttle angle, engine speed, gear ratio, vehicle acceleration and road condition. The minimum value principle is also introduced to achieve an optimal dynamic performance of the nonlinear system compromised in friction plate wear and vehicle drive quality. The optimal trajectory of the clutch engagement can be described in the form of explicit and analytical expressions and characterized by the deterministic and accurate control strategy in stead of indeterministic and soft control techniques which need thousands of experiments. For validation of the controller, test work is carried out for the automated clutch engagements in a commercial car with an traditional mechanical transmission,a hydraulic actuator,a group of sensors and a portable computer system. It is shown through experiments that dynamic behaviors of the clutch engagement operated by the optimal control are more effective and efficient than those by fuzzy control.Sun Chengshun Zhang Jianwu School of Mechanical and Power Engineering,Shanghai Jiaotong University,Shanghai 200030, China 2004Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2004,17,2:13

Symptoms of long-term exposure to moxa smoke in acupuncturists: a correlation analysis显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of long-term exposure to moxa smoke on acupuncturists and to consider the association between physical symptoms and gender, age, secondhand smoke(SHS) exposure, and the duration of exposure.METHODS: A self-report, web-based questionnaire was used to evaluate the effects of moxa smoke onacupuncturists. Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between physical symptoms and possible correlative factors.RESULTS: A total of 858 questionnaires were analyzed. The data showed that 42.42% of acupuncturists had been exposed to moxa smoke for 5-10 years. The most frequent symptom was tearing(32.98%) and the least frequent symptom was asthma(5.24%). Logistic regression analysis showed that female acupuncturists were slightly more susceptible to cough and tearing than males(cough:OR: 1.583, 95% CI: 1.079, 2.321, P = 0.019; tearing:OR: 1.519, 95% CI: 1.094, 2.108, P = 0.013). Acupuncturists aged over 25 years reported a slightly lower incidence of eye itchiness than those aged under25 years(26-40 years: OR: 0.604, 95% CI: 0.379,0.965, P = 0.035; over 40 years: OR: 0.330, 95% CI:0.114, 0.958, P = 0.042). Ophthalmodynia occurred less in acupuncturists aged 26-40 years(OR: 0.591,95% CI: 0.359, 0.970, P = 0.038) than in those younger than 25 years. The only association between prevalence of symptoms and tobacco use and SHS exposure was that smokers had a lower occurrence of phlegm in the throat(OR: 0.579, 95% CI: 0.392,0.856, P = 0.006). Shortness of breath was less frequent in participants exposed to moxa smoke for more than 5 years(5-10 years: OR: 0.400, 95% CI:0.204, 0.785, P = 0.008; 11-20 years: OR: 0.392, 95%CI: 0.178, 0.864, P = 0.02), but a slightly higher incidence of eye itchiness was found in those with over20 years of moxa exposure(OR: 4.200, 95% CI:1.344, 3.128, P = 0.014).CONCLUSION: The most frequent symptom of moxa smoke exposure in acupuncturists was tear-ing. The association of symptoms with age and duration of exposure to moxa smoke were rather complicated; hence, care should be taken in drawing conclusions about the safety of moxa smoke based solely on its potentially harmful ingredients.Wang Xiang Yu Chang Tang Yong Chang Shyang Yang Hui Zhang He Jiaozi Zhang Yueyue Jiao Yang Zhuang Zhiqi Yin Haiyan Zhang Chengshun Lu Peng Wu Qiaofeng Yu Shuguang 2018Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2018,38,1:7

Seismic stability of jointed rock slopes under obliquely incident earthquake waves显示文摘Seismic stability of slopes has been traditionally analyzed with vertically propagated earthquake waves. However, for rock slopes, the earthquake waves might approach the outcrop still with a evidently oblique direction. To investigate the impact of obliquely incident earthquake excitations, the input method for SV and P waves with arbitrary incident angles is conducted, respectively,by adopting the equivalent nodal force method together with a viscous-spring boundary. Then, the input method is introduced within the framework of ABAQUS software and verified by a numerical example. Both SV and P waves input are considered herein for a 2 D jointed rock slope. For the jointed rock mass, the jointed material model in ABAQUS software is employed to simulate its behavior as a continuum. Results of the study show that the earthquake incident angles have significance on the seismic stability of jointed rock slopes. The larger the incident angle, the greater the risk of slope instability.Furthermore, the stability of the jointed rock slopes also is affected by wave types of earthquakes heavily.P waves induce weaker responses and SV waves are shown to be more critical.Huang Jingqi Zhao Mi Xu Chengshun Du Xiuli Jin Liu Zhao Xu 2018Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2018,17,3:4

Property estimation of free-field sand in 1-g shaking table tests显示文摘Experimental data taken from free-field soil in 1-g shaking table tests are valuable for seismic studies on soil-structure interaction. But the available data from medium-to large-scale shaking table tests were not abundant enough to cover a large variety of types and conditions of the soil.In the study,1-g shaking table tests of a 3-m-height sand column were conducted to provide seismic experimental data about sand. The sand was directly collected in-situ,with the largest grain diameter being 2 cm and containing a water content of 6.3%.Properties of the sand were estimated under the influence of white noise plus pulse and earthquake motions, including the settlement, the dynamic properties of the sand column, and the three soil layers′shear modulus degradation relationships. The estimated properties were then indirectly verified by means of finite element analysis. Results show that the estimated parameters were effective and could be used in numerical modeling to reproduce approximate seismic responses of the sand column.Xu Chengshun Jiang Zhiwei Du Xiuli Deng Lijun Li Zheng 2022Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2022,21,3:1

Seismic response comparison and sensitivity analysis of pile foundation in liquefiable and non-liquefiable soils显示文摘Case history investigations have shown that pile foundations are more critically damaged in liquefiable soils than non-liquefiable soils. This study examines the differences in seismic response of pile foundations in liquefiable and non-liquefiable soils and their sensitivity to numerical model parameters.A two-dimensional finite element(FE)model is developed to simulate the experiment of a single pile foundation centrifuge in liquefiable soil subjected to earthquake motions and is validated against real-world test results. The differences in soil-pile seismic response of liquefiable and non-liquefiable soils are explored.Specifically, the first-order second-moment method(FOSM)is used for sensitivity analysis of the seismic response. The results show significant differences in seismic response for a soil-pile system between liquefiable and non-liquefiable soil. The seismic responses are found to be significantly larger in liquefiable soil than in non-liquefiable soil. Moreover, the pile bending moment was mainly affected by the kinematic effect in liquefiable soil, while the inertial effect was more significant in non-liquefiable soil. The controlling parameters of seismic response were PGA,soil density, and friction angle in liquefiable soil, while the pile bending moment was mainly controlled by PGA,the friction angle of soil, and shear modulus of loose sand in non-liquefiable soil.Jia Kemin Xu Chengshun Du Xiuli Cui Chunyi Dou Pengfei Song Jia 2023Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2023,22,1:1

Experimental study on cyclic deformation properties of saturated Fujian sand at different loading frequencies显示文摘In this study,a series of undrained cyclic torsional shear tests were conducted to investigate the effect of cyclic loading frequency f on the pre-liquefaction(shearing contractive(SC)period and initial shearing dilative(ISD)period)and post-liquefaction(late shearing dilative(LSD)period)deformation properties of saturated Fujian sand. The secant shear modulus G and damping ratioλin the entire cyclic loading process, and the unloading tangent shear modulus G_(L1)and flow deformation tangent shear modulus GL2 in the ISD and LSD periods were adopted to quantitatively characterize the evolution of hysteresis loop with an increase in shear strain amplitude ca.The test results show that the effect of f on G of saturated Fujian sand in the SC period is not apparent. However, all the G-γ_(a),G_(L1)-γ_(a),and GL2-ca curves in the ISD and LSD periods showed a downward trend with an increase in f.This study also proposes a modified method for calculatingλto compensate for the analytical error caused by the non-closure of hysteresis loop.Compared with the classical curves that mainly applied in geotechnical engineering, theλfirst increases and then decreases with the increase ofγa.Furthermore, theλevaluated by the modified method is approximately 10%–15%more than theλevaluated by the traditional method when theλreaches its peak value.Chong Yue Ke Liang Chengshun Xu Xiuli Du 2023Underground Space2023,,6:0
Analysis on kinematic and inertial interaction in liquefiable soil-pile-structure dynamic system显示文摘The dynamic pile-soil interaction in a liquefied site was investigated by means of numerical simulation and shaking table tests in this study.Based on the results from the shaking table experiment, the cross-correlation analysis of the soil displacement-pile bending moment and superstructure acceleration-pile bending moment was performed to study the influence of kinematic interaction and inertial interaction on the seismic response of piles.A relatively reasonable and accurate finite difference numerical analysis model of liquefiable soil-pile group-superstructure dynamic system was established.Through numerical simulation, the understanding of kinematic interaction and inertial interaction in the shaking table test was verified. The mass, damping and period of the superstructure were selected as variables to carry out parameter analysis to further study the influence of inertial interaction on the pile-structure failure mechanism. The results show that the influence of kinematic interaction on the pile was much greater than that of inertial interaction. The mass of the superstructure was the most important parameter of inertial interaction, and dynamic characteristics of the superstructure also had an effect on inertial interaction. The effect of inertial interaction on the part near the pile tip was more significant, indicating that the failure near the pile tip is closely related to inertial interaction.Xu Chengshun Liu Hao Dou Pengfei Wang Jinting Chen Su Du Xiuli 2023Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2023,22,3:0
Work conjugate principle-constrained volume averaging technique for multiphase porous media显示文摘Volume averaging is a standard method for the development of macroscopic balance equations for modelling the thermodynamic behaviors of multiphase porous media. However, work conjugate principle which is a common practice in continuum mechanics is not emphasized by the volume averaging technique resulting in the macroscopic balance equations are not capable of comprehensively describing the kinematic behaviors of multiphase porous media due to the loss of essential macroscopic variables. This study derives the macroscopic mass and momentum balance equations for the pore fluid of a fluid-solid porous medium by use of the volume averaging technique. We show(1) if the procedure of the volume averaging is implemented in its traditional manner, only the average flux of the pore fluid described by its mass average velocity is captured;(2) if the work conjugate principle is employed to define a work-conjugate velocity for the pore fluid at the macroscale, both the average flux(described by the mass average velocity) and the dispersive flux(described by the deviation of the mass average velocity from the work-conjugate one) are reproduced. This theoretical analysis demonstrates that the work conjugate principle is an essential thermodynamic constraint to improve the volume averaging technique, in the sense that the macroscopic balance equations are required to be capable of comprehensively describing the macroscopic kinematic behaviors of multiphase porous media.ZHANG ZhiHong XU ZhaoGang XU ChengShun DU XiuLi 2017Science China(Technological Sciences)2017,60,12:0
Generalized response displacement methods for seismic analysis of underground structures with complex cross section显示文摘The response displacement method(RDM)is recommended for the seismic analysis of underground structures in the transverse direction for many codes, including bases for design of structures-seismic actions for designing geotechnical works(ISO 23469)and code for seismic design of urban rail transit structures(GB 50909-2014).However,there are some obvious limitations in the application of RDM.Springs and the shear stress of the soil could be approximately evaluated for the structures having a simple cross section, such as rectangular and circular structures. It is necessary to propose simplified seismic analysis methods for structures with complex cross sections. This paper refers to the idea of RDM and proposes three generalized response displacement methods(GRDM).In GRDM1,a part of the soil surrounding a structure is selected to generate a generalized underground structure with a rectangular cross section, and the same analysis model as RDM is applied to analyze the responses of the structure. In GRDM2,a hollow soil model without a generalized structure is used to compute the equivalent load caused by the relative displacement of the soil, and the soil-structure interaction model is applied to calculate the responses of the structure. In GRDM3,a continuous soil model is applied to compute the equivalent load caused by the relative displacement and shear stress of the soil, and the soil-structure interaction model is applied to analyze the responses of the structure, which is the same as the model used in GRDM2.The time-history analysis method(THAM)is used to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed simplified methods. Results show that the error of GRDM1 is about 20%,while the error is only 5%for GRDM2 and GRDM3.Among the three proposed methods,GRDM3 has obvious advantages regarding calculation efficiency and accuracy. Therefore,it is recommended to use GRDM3 for the seismic response analysis of underground structures that have conventional simple or complex cross sections.Xu Zigang Ding Linling Du Xiuli Xu Chengshun Zhuang Haiyang 2023Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2023,22,4:0
