| 1 | A review on assessment and treatment of the trunk in stroke A need or luxury显示文摘Trunk function has been identified as an important early predictor of functional outcome after stroke and the same deteriorates on both contralateral and ipsilateral sides of the body following stroke. The primary contribution of the trunk muscles is to allow the body to remain upright, adjust weight shifts, and control movements against constant pull of gravity and is considered central key point of the body.Proximal stability of the trunk is a pre-requisite for distal limb mobility, balance, gait and functional activities and its positive correlation in hemiplegia has been demonstrated in a cross-sectional study. Both isokinetic and handheld dynamometer muscle strength testing demonstrated the weakness of bilateral trunk flexors, extensors and rotator muscles in both acute and chronic hemiplegic patients. This was confirmed by electromyography analysis which identified poor bilateral trunk muscles activity in patients with stroke.Trunk impairment scale is sensitive to evaluate the selective muscle control of upper and lower trunk, and it has been reported that lateral flexion of the trunk is easier than rotation of the trunk and the clinical observation concurs to the difficulty in lower trunk rotation of stroke patients. However, trunk exercises given early after stroke could produce enhanced balance performance post-stroke.This review attempts to report the evidence supporting the involvement of the trunk and its influence on balance and functional performance in post-stroke hemiplegia. | Suruliraj Karthikbabu Mahabala Chakrapani Sailakshmi Ganeshan Kedambadi C Rakshith Syed Nafeez Venkatesan Prem | 2012 | Neural Regeneration Research2012,7,25: | 5 |
| 2 | High entropy spinel oxide for efficient electrochemical oxidation of ammonia显示文摘Ammonia has emerged as a promising energy carrier owing to its carbon neutral content and low expense in long-range transportation. Therefore, development of a specific pathway to release the energy stored in ammonia is therefore in urgent demand.Electrochemical oxidation provides a convenient and reliable route to attain efficient utilization of ammonia. Here,we report that the high entropy(Mn,Fe,Co,Ni,Cu)_(3)O_(4)oxides can achieve high electrocatalytic activity for ammonia oxidation reaction(AOR)in non-aqueous solutions. The AOR onset overpotential of(Mn,Fe,Co,Ni,Cu)_(3)O_(4)is 0.70 V,which is nearly 0.2 V lower than that of their most active single metal cation counterpart. The mass spectroscopy study reveals that(Mn,Fe,Co,Ni,Cu)_(3)O_(4)preferentially oxidizes ammonia to environmentally friendly diatomic nitrogen with a Faradic efficiency of over 85%.The Xray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)result indicates that the balancing metal d-band of Mn and Cu cations helps retain a longlasting electrocatalytic activity.Overall, this work introduces a new family of earth-abundant transition metal high entropy oxide electrocatalysts for AOR,thus heralding a new paradigm of catalyst design for enabling ammonia as an energy carrier. | Shi He Vasishta Somayaji Mengdi Wang Seung-Hoon Lee Zhijia Geng Siyuan Zhu Peter Novello Chakrapani V.Varanasi Jie Liu | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,6: | 3 |
| 3 | Prediction of daily sediment discharge using a back propagation neural network training algorithm:A case study of the Narmada River,India显示文摘Most of the studies on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models remain restricted to smaller rivers and catchments. In this paper, an attempt has been made to correlate variability of sediment loads with rainfall and runoff through the application of the Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) algorithm for a large tropical river. The algorithm and simulation are done through MATLAB environment. The methodology comprised of a collection of data on rainfall, water discharge, and sediment discharge for the Narmada River at various locations (along with time variables) and application to develop a threelayer BPNN model for the prediction of sediment discharges. For training and validation purposes a set of 549 data points for the monsoon (16 June-15 November) period of three consecutive years (1996–1998) was used. For testing purposes, the BPNN model was further trained using a set of 732 data points of monsoon season of four years (2006–07 to 2009–10) at nine stations. The model was tested by predicting daily sediment load for the monsoon season of the year 2010–11. To evaluate the performance of the BPNN model, errors were calculated by comparing the actual and predicted loads. The validation and testing results obtained at all these locations are tabulated and discussed. Results obtained from the model application are robust and encouraging not only for the sub-basins but also for the entire basin. These results suggest that the proposed model is capable of predicting the daily sediment load even at downstream locations, which show nonlinearity in the transportation process. Overall, the proposed model with further training might be useful in the prediction of sediment discharges for large river basins. | Nibedita Bisoyi Harish Gupta Narayan Prasad Padhy Govind Joseph Chakrapani | 2019 | International Journal of Sediment Research2019,34,2: | 3 |
| 4 | Artificial neural network simulation for prediction of suspended sediment concentration in the River Ramganga,Ganges Basin,India显示文摘The relation between the water discharge (Q) and suspended sediment concentration (SSC) of the River Ramganga at Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, in the Himalayas, has been modeled using Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). The current study validates the practical capability and usefulness of this tool for simulating complex nonlinear, real world, river system processes in the Himalayan scenario. The modeling approach is based on the time series data collected from January to December (2008-2010) for Q and SSC. Three ANNs (T1-T3) with different network configurations have been developed and trained using the Levenberg Marquardt Back Propagation Algorithm in the Matlab routines. Networks were optimized using the enumeration technique, and, finally, the best network is used to predict the SSC values for the year 2011. The values thus obtained through the ANN model are compared with the observed values of SSC. The coefficient of determination (R2), for the optimal network was found to be 0.99. The study not only provides insight into ANN modeling in the Himalayan river scenario, but it also focuses on the importance of understanding a river basin and the factors that affect the SSC, before attempting to model it. Despite the temporal variations in the study area, it is possible to model and successfully predict the SSC values with very simplistic ANN models. | Mohd Yawar Ali Khan Fuqiang Tian Faisal Hasan Govind Joseph Chakrapani | 2019 | International Journal of Sediment Research2019,34,2: | 2 |
