1Clinical significance of main pancreatic duct dilation on computed tomography: Single and double duct dilation显示文摘AIM: To study the patients with main pancreatic duct dilation on computed tomography (CT) and thereby to provide the predictive criteria to identify patients at high risk of significant diseases, such as pancreatic cancer, and to avoid unnecessary work up for patients at low risk of such diseases. METHODS: Patients with dilation of the main pancreatic duct on CT at Emory University Hospital in 2002 were identified by computer search. Clinical course and ultimate diagnosis were obtained in all the identified patients by abstraction of their computer database records. RESULTS: Seventy-seven patients were identified in this study. Chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer were the most common causes of the main pancreatic duct dilation on CT. Although the majority of patients with isolated dilation of the main pancreatic duct (single duct dilation) had chronic pancreatitis, one-third of patients with single duct dilation but without chronic pancreatitis had pancreatic malignancies, whereas most of patients with concomitant biliary duct dilation (double duct dilation) had pancreatic cancer. CONCLUSION: Patients with pancreatic double duct dilation need extensive work up and careful followup since a majority of these patients are ultimately diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. 2Elucidation of the ‘Honeycrisp’ pedigree through haplotype analysis with a multi-family integrated SNP linkage map and a large apple (Malus×domestica) pedigree-connected SNP data set显示文摘The apple(Malus×domestica)cultivar Honeycrisp has become important economically and as a breeding parent.An earlier study with SSR markers indicated the original recorded pedigree of‘Honeycrisp’was incorrect and‘Keepsake’was identified as one putative parent,the other being unknown.The objective of this study was to verify‘Keepsake’as a parent and identify and genetically describe the unknown parent and its grandparents.A multi-family based dense and high-quality integrated SNP map was created using the apple 8 K Illumina Infinium SNP array.This map was used alongside a large pedigree-connected data set from the RosBREED project to build extended SNP haplotypes and to identify pedigree relationships.‘Keepsake’was verified as one parent of‘Honeycrisp’and‘Duchess of Oldenburg’and‘Golden Delicious’were identified as grandparents through the unknown parent.Following this finding,siblings of‘Honeycrisp’were identified using the SNP data.Breeding records from several of these siblings suggested that the previously unreported parent is a University of Minnesota selection,MN1627.This selection is no longer available,but now is genetically described through imputed SNP haplotypes.We also present the mosaic grandparental composition of‘Honeycrisp’for each of its 17 chromosome pairs.This new pedigree and genetic information will be useful in future pedigree-based genetic studies to connect‘Honeycrisp’with other cultivars used widely in apple breeding programs.The created SNP linkage map will benefit future research using the data from the Illumina apple 8 and 20 K and Affymetrix 480 K SNP arrays.Nicholas P Howard Eric van de Weg David S Bedford Cameron P Peace Stijn Vanderzande Matthew D Clark Soon Li Teh Lichun Cai James J Luby 2017Horticulture Research2017,4,1:9

5Doped graphene/carbon black hybrid catalyst giving enhanced oxygen reduction reaction activity with high resistance to corrosion in proton exchange membrane fuel cells显示文摘Nitrogen doping of the carbon is an important method to improve the performance and durability of catalysts for proton exchange membrane fuel cells by platinum–nitrogen and carbon–nitrogen bonds. This study shows that p-phenyl groups and graphitic N acting bridges linking platinum and the graphene/carbon black(the ratio graphene/carbon black = 2/3) hybrid support materials achieved the average size of platinum nanoparticles with(4.88 ± 1.79) nm. It improved the performance of the lower-temperature hydrogen fuel cell up to 0.934 W cm^(-2) at 0.60 V, which is 1.55 times greater than that of commercial Pt/C. Doping also enhanced the interaction between Pt and the support materials, and the resistance to corrosion, thus improving the durability of the low-temperature hydrogen fuel cell with a much lower decay of 10 mV at 0.80 A cm^(-2) after 30 k cycles of an in-situ accelerated stress test of catalyst degradation than that of 92 mV in Pt/C, which achieves the target of Department of Energy(<30 mV). 6Locally transplanted enteric glia improve functional and structural recovery in a rat model of spinal cord injury显示文摘<正>BACKGROUND:We have previously reported that adult enteric glia(EG) facilitate the growth of transected dorsal root axons into the uninjured spinal cord to form functional connections with their targets. OBJECTIVE:The present study investigated the effects of EG on spinal cord function,tissue injury, and axonal regeneration following transplantation into injured rat spinal cords,according to histological and functional outcomes. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:A randomized controlled animal experiment was performed at McMaster University,Canada from January 2006 to March 2008. MATERIALS:EG were isolated from rat intestine. METHODS:One week following spinal cord crush,female Wistar rats were injected with an EG suspension(2μL,1×10~5/μL,n=10) or with the same volume of fresh culture medium alone(control animals,n=11).The third group did not receive any injection following laminectomy and served as the sham-operated controls(n=5). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Behavior was tested prior to transplantation and weekly following transplantation,with nine behavioral examinations in total.Open field,hind limb placement response, foot orientation response,and inclined plane test were utilized.Immediately following the final behavioral examination,spinal cord T_9 to L_1 segments were harvested for immunohistochemical and hematoxylin-eosin staining to determine astroglial scarring,axonal regeneration and spinal cord lesion size. RESULTS:Rats with EG transplantation exhibited significantly better locomotor function with reduced tissue damage,compared with the control rats.Cystic cavities were present 2 months after injury in spinal cords from both control groups.In contrast,rats injected with EG did not present with cystic lesions.In addition,the injury site consisted of cellular material and nerve fibers,and axonal regeneration was apparent,with dense labeling of neurofilament-positive axons within the injury site. Moreover,regenerating axons were intimately associated with transplanted EG CONCLUSION:These data indicated that EG enhanced functional improvement,which was associated with reduced tissue damage and axonal regeneration following transplantation into injured spinal cords.Shucui Jiang Mohammad I.
