1Large eddy simulation of aircraft wake vortex with self-adaptive grid method显示文摘A self-adaptive-grid method is applied to numerical simulation of the evolution of aircraft wake vortex with the large eddy simulation(LES). The Idaho Falls(IDF)measurement of run 9 case is simulated numerically and compared with that of the field experimental data. The comparison shows that the method is reliable in the complex atmospheric environment with crosswind and ground effect. In addition, six cases with different ambient atmospheric turbulences and Brunt V¨ais¨al¨a(BV) frequencies are computed with the LES. The main characteristics of vortex are appropriately simulated by the current method. The onset time of rapid decay and the descending of vortices are in agreement with the previous measurements and the numerical prediction. Also, secondary structures such as baroclinic vorticity and helical structures are also simulated.Only approximately 6 million grid points are needed in computation with the present method, while the number can be as large as 34 million when using a uniform mesh with the same core resolution. 4Study on the dynamic characteristics of flow over building cluster at high Reynolds number by large eddy simulation显示文摘In this paper,the dynamic characteristics of building clusters are simulated by large eddy simulation at high Reynolds number for both homogeneous and heterogeneous building clusters.To save the computational cost a channel-like flow model is applied to the urban canopy with free slip condition at the upper boundary.The results show that the domain height is an important parameter for correct evaluation of the dynamic characteristics.The domain height must be greater than 8h(h is the average building height)in order to obtain correct roughness height while displacement height and roughness sublayer are less sensitive to the domain height.The Reynolds number effects on the dynamic characteristics and flow patterns are investigated.The turbulence intensity is stronger inside building cluster at high Reynolds number while turbulence intensity is almost unchanged with Reynolds number above the building cluster.Roughness height increases monotonously with Reynolds number by 20%from Re*=103 to Re*=105 but displacement height is almost unchanged.Within the canopy layer of heterogeneous building clusters,flow structures vary between buildings and turbulence is more active at high Reynolds number.WANG BoBin WANG ZhiShi CUI GuiXiang ZHANG ZhaoShun 2014Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2014,57,6:5

6Direct Effects of Activin A on the Activation of Mouse Macrophage RAW264.7 Cells显示文摘Macrophages play critical roles in innate immune and acquired immune via secreting pro-inflammatory mediators, phagocytosing microorganisms and presenting antigens. Activin A, a member of transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) superfamily, is produced by macrophages and microglia cells. In this study, we reported a direct effect of activin A as a pro-inflammatory factor on mouse macrophage cell line RAW264.7 cells. Our data revealed that activin A could not only increase IL-1β and IL-6 production from RAW264.7 cells, but also promote pinocytic and phagocytic activities of RAW264.7 cells. In addition, activin A obviously up-regulated MHC II expression on the surface of RAW264.7 cells, whereas did not influence MHC I expression. Activin A also enhanced CD80 expression, which is a marker of activated macrophages, but did not influence RAW264.7 cell proliferation. 7A new vortex sheet model for simulating aircraft wake vortex evolution显示文摘A new vortex sheet model was proposed for simulating aircraft wake vortex evolution.Rather than beginning with a pair of counter-rotating cylindrical vortices as in the traditional models, a lift-drag method is used to initialize a vortex sheet so that the roll-up phase is taken into account. The results of this model report a better approximation to a real situation when compared to the measurement data. The roll-up induced structures are proved to influence the far-field decay.On one hand, they lead to an early decay in the diffusion phase. On the other hand, the growth of linear instability such as elliptical instability is suppressed, resulting in a slower decay in the rapid decay phase. This work provides a simple and practicable model for simulating wake vortex evolution, which combines the roll-up process and the far-field phase in simulation. 8Effect of active control on optimal structures in wall turbulence显示文摘The effect of active control imposed at the wall on optimal structures in wall turbulence is studied by using a linear transient growth model.When the detection plane of the control is located in the buffer layer,the influence of the control on the transient growth of large scale motion becomes negligible as Reynolds number increases.However,if the control signal is detected at the plane located in the logarithm region,the transient growth at large scale can be greatly suppressed.New peak values of transient growth resulting from the strong blowing and suction on the wall exist.The study indicates that a proper selection of control imposed on the wall can suppress the large scale motion in the logarithmic region.DENG BingQing XU ChunXiao HUANG WeiXi CUI GuiXiang 2013Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2013,56,2:3
9A composite model for complex building street configuration in a large eddy simulation of local urban atmospheric environment显示文摘The wind field and pollutant dispersion are predicted numerically in a local urban area with crowded buildings and heavy traffic.A domain decomposition method is used in the large eddy simulation,in which the urban area is decomposed into a central area,where pollution is the major concern,and a surrounding region,where the pollutant distribution is not important.The composite model is proposed for the complex building-street layout.The fine grid mesh is used to resolve the buildings in the central area while the buildings are treated as roughness elements in the surrounding region where the coarse grids are used.The proposed numerical method is applied to simulate the wind field and pollutant dispersion from vehicle exhaust in the Rua Do Campo area of Macao.The results show that the composite model is an appropriate method for predicting wind field and pollutant dispersion in the crowded building area.LIU YuShi CUI GuiXiang WANG ZhiShi HUANG WeiXi XU ChunXiao ZHANG ZhaoShun 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,4:3
10Large eddy simulation of stably stratified turbulence显示文摘Stable stratification turbulence, as a common phenomenon in atmospheric and oceanic flows, is an important mechanism for numerical prediction of such flows. In this paper the large eddy simulation is utilized for investigating stable stratification turbulence numerically. The paper is expected to provide correct statistical results in agreement with those measured in the atmosphere or ocean. The fully developed turbulence is obtained in the stable stratification fluid by large eddy simulation with different initial velocity field and characteristic parameters, i.e. Reynolds number Re and Froude number Fr. The evolution of turbulent kinetic energy, characteristic length scales and parameters is analyzed for investigating the development of turbulence in stable stratification fluid. The three-dimensional energy spectra, horizontal and vertical energy spectrum, are compared between numerical simulation and real observation in the atmosphere and ocean in order to test the reliability of the numerical simulation. The results of numerical cases show that the large eddy simulation is capable of predicting the properties of stable stratification turbulence in consistence with real measurements at less computational cost. It has been found in this paper that the turbulence can be developed under different initial velocity conditions and the internal wave energy is dominant in the developed stable stratification turbulence. It is also found that the characteristic parameters must satisfy certain conditions in order to have correct statistical property of stable stratification turbulence in the atmosphere and ocean. The Reynolds number and Froude number are unnecessarily equal to those in atmosphere or ocean, but the Reynolds number must be large enough, say, greater than 10 2 , and Froude number must be less than 0.1. 11Flow patterns and dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy in near-wall turbulence显示文摘It is disclosed the flow patterns of turbulent flows in near wall region by means of topological analysis. It has found that there exists a close relationship between the topological characteristics and the spikes which are dominated by the strong normal velocity fluctuations near the wall. 13The effect of the Taylor-Grtler vortex on Reynolds stress transport in the rotating turbulent channel flow显示文摘We investigates the effect of Taylor-Grtler vortex on the Reynolds stress transport in the rotating turbulent channel flow by direct numerical simulation. The Taylor-Grtler vortex is detected by longitudinal average of velocity fluctuation in the channel and defined as TG fluctuation. It has been found that turbulent diffusion is significant in the Reynolds stress transportation at the suction side of rotating turbulent channel in contrast with the turbulent channel flow without rotation and Taylor-Grtler vortex plays an important role in the turbulent diffusion in Reynolds stress transport. 14Astrocytic effect of low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase conjugate in interleukin-6 overexpressing mice following local cerebral ischemia显示文摘BACKGROUND:Studies have shown that low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase conjugate exhibits a remarkable neuroprotective effect. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase conjugate on astrocytes in an interleukin-6(IL-6) overexpressing mice following local cerebral ischemia. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:Randomized,cytological,controlled,animal study was performed in the Department of Physiology and Neuroscience,Neurology and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology,Medical University of South Carolina from January 2005 to March 2005. MATERIALS:Nine IL-6 transgenic mice,irrespective of gender,were randomly divided into three groups:sham-operated,model,and treatment,with three mice in each group.With exception of the sham-operated group,right middle cerebral artery occlusion was induced in the mice. Expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein,an astrocyte marker,was determined by immunohistochemistry.Low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase conjugate was purchased from Biochemistry and Biotechnique Institute,Shandong University. METHODS:Two minutes prior to ischemia induction,0.5 mL/kg saline or 20 000 U/kg low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase conjugate were administrated via the femoral artery in the model group and treatment group,respectively.The sham-operated group underwent the same protocols,with the exception of occlusion and treatment. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:The number of glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive cells was quantified under light microscopy(x200). RESULTS:In the sham-operated group,there were a large number of astrocytes in the IL-6 transgenic mice.However,the cell bodies were small,and the branches were few and thin.The number of astrocytes in the model group was remarkably less than the sham-operated group. Compared to the model and sham-operated groups,the number of astrocytes significantly increased,and the cell body became larger,following treatment with low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase conjugate.Astrocytes exhibited hypertrophy and hyperplasia,and the processes became longer and thicker. 16Large eddy simulation of city micro-atmospheric environment显示文摘Air quality is one of the important conditions for a better residence life in the populated urban area and it is closed related to the micro-atmospheric environment. Atmospheric environment is controlled by air motion with multi-scales in the city,while air flows in the residence area are of micro-scale atmospheric motion. This paper introduces a modern numerical simulation method,i.e. large eddy simulation(LES) ,for studying micro-atmospheric flows in the city residence area. For the complex flow features in the residence area,the proper application of LES is studied and various numerical methods are compared in order to investigate their effects on the prediction accuracy of micro-atmospheric flows,for instance,roughness elements and immersed boundary method for complex terrain,different subgrid models and so on. 18Physicochemical disintegration of biochar:a potentially important process for long-term cadmium and lead sorption显示文摘Cadmium(Cd)and lead(Pb)contaminated soils that are used for food production can lead to metal bioaccumulation in the food chain and eventually affect human health.In these agroecosystems,means by which Cd and Pb bioavailability can be reduced are desperately required,with biochar as a proxy for bioavailability reductions.Molecular Cd and Pb sorption mecha-nisms within short-(0-2 years)or long-term(8-10 years)time periods following biochar application to a contaminated rice paddy soil were investigated.A combination of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and soft X-ray imaging was utilized to discern potential metal sorption mechanisms.Following both short-and long-term biochar applications,soil Cd and Pb bioavailable fractions shifted partially towards metal(hydr)oxide and carbonate pre-cipitates,and partially towards biochar-organic function group associations;oxygen-containing groups,such as C=O and O-H,appeared to bind Cd and Pb.Soft X-ray imaging results suggested that heavy metals were primarily sorbed on biochar exterior surfaces,yet given time and particle disintegration,metals sorbed onto biochar interior pore walls.Findings sug-gest that biochar may play a pivotal role in reducing long-term bioavailable Cd and Pb in contaminated soils.Observations also support previous findings that suggest biochar use can lead to reduced heavy metal transfer to plants and potentially to reduced heavy metal consumption by humans.Liqiang Cui Lianqing Li Rongjun Bian James A.Ippolito Jinlong Yan Guixiang Quan 2021Biochar2021,3,4:1
19Study on near-wall turbulence structures with local Reynolds stress显示文摘The direct- numerical- simulated ch annel turbulence is analyzed with two-dimensional wavelet transform. Considering the relation between turbulence coherent structure and Reynolds stress in near wall region, the local Reynolds stress (LRS) is defined.A new method for extracting coherent signals from turbulence based on the LRS is developed. Velocity fiuctuations are decomposed to coherent signals and background signals. It is found that the scaling exponents of coherent signals have a considerable deviation from the Kolmogorov scaling law q/3 (K41 theory), while that of background signals is very close to q/3. It is confirmed that coherent signals are mainly responsible for the anomalous scalings.Locally characterized by the positive peaks of LRS, the typical structures in near wall region are obtained by conditional statistical averaging. 20Effects of low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase conjugate on serum levels of nitric oxide,glutathione peroxidase,and myeloperoxidase in a gerbil model of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury显示文摘BACKGROUND:Several studies have demonstrated that low molecular weight heparin-superoxide dismutase (LMWH-SOD) conjugate may exhibit good neuroprotective effects on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury though anticoagulation,decreasing blood viscosity,having anti-inflammatory activity,and scavenging oxygen free radicals. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the intervention effects of LMWH-SOD conjugate on serum levels of nitric oxide (NO),glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px),and myeloperoxidase (MPO) following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING: A randomized,controlled,and neurobiochemical experiment was performed at the Institute of Biochemical Pharmacy,School of Pharmaceutical Sciences,Shandong University between April and July 2004. MATERIALS: A total of 60 Mongolian gerbils of either gender were included in this study. Total cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury was induced in 50 gerbils by occluding bilateral common carotid arteries. The remaining 10 gerbils received a sham-operation (sham-operated group). Kits of SOD,NO,and MPO were sourced from Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Institute,China. LMWH,SOD,and LMWH-SOD conjugates were provided by Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnique,Shandong University,China. METHODS: Fifty successful gerbil models of total cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury were evenly randomized to five groups: physiological saline,LMWH-SOD,SOD,LMWH + SOD,and LMWH. At 2 minutes prior to ischemia,0.5 mL/65 g physiological saline,20 000 U/kg LMWH-SOD conjugate,20 000 U/kg SOD,a mixture of SOD (20 000 U/kg) and LMWH (LMWH dose calculated according to weight ratio,LMWH: SOD=23.6:51),and LMWH (dose as in the LMWH + SOD group) were administered through the femoral artery in each above-mentioned group,respectively. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Serum levels of NO,MPO,and GSH-Px. RESULTS: Compared with 10 sham-operated gerbils,the cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury gerbils exhibited decreased serum levels of GSH-Px and increased serum levels of NO and MPO (P<0.01). The serum level of GSH-Px was significantly upregulated in all groups,in particular in the LMWH-SOD group (P<0.01),compared with the physiological saline group (P<0.05-0.01). Following medical treatment,serum levels of NO and MPO were significantly downregulated in all groups,in particular in the LMWH-SOD group (P<0.01). Serum levels of GSH-Px,NO,and MPO in the LMWH-SOD group were close to those in the sham-operated group (P > 0.05).
