| 1 | Effect of various crop rotations on rice yield and nitrogen use efficiency in paddy–upland systems in southeastern China显示文摘To evaluate the effects of various rotation systems on rice grain yield and N use efficiency, a paddy–upland cropping experiment(2013–2016) was conducted in southeastern China. The experiment was designed using six different rice––winter crop rotations: rice–fallow(RF),rice–wheat(RW), rice–potato with rice straw mulch(RP), rice–green manure(Chinese milk vetch; RC–G), rice–oilseed rape(RO), and rice–green manure crop(oilseed rape with fresh straw incorporated into soil at flowering; RO–G) and three N rates, N0(0 kg N ha-1), N1(142.5 kg N ha-1), and N2(202.5 kg N ha-1). Average rice yields in the RF(5.93 t ha-1) rotation were significantly lower than those in the rotations with winter crops(7.20–7.48 t ha-1)under the N0 treatment, suggesting that incorporation of straw might be more effective for increasing soil N than winter fallow. The rice yield differences among the rotations varied by year with the N input. In general, the grain yields in the RP and RO–G rotations –were respectively 11.6–28.5% and 14.80–37.19% higher than those in the RF in plots with N applied. Increasing the N rate may have tended to minimize the average yield gap between the RF and the other rotations; the yield gaps were 18.55%, 4.14%, and 0.23% in N0, N1, and N2, respectively. However, the N recovery efficiency in the RF was significantly lower than that in other rotations, except for 2015 under both N1 and N2 rates, a finding that implies a large amount of chemical N loss. No significant differences in nitrogen agronomic efficiency(NAE) and physiological efficiency(NPE) were found between the rotations with legume(RC–G) and non–legume(RO and RW) winter crops, a result that may be due partly to straw incorporation. For this reason, we concluded that the return of straw could reduce differences in N use efficiency between rotations with and without legume crops. The degree of synchrony between the crop N demand and the N supply was evaluated by comparison of nitrogen balance degree(NBD) values. The NBD values in the RP and RW were significantly lower than those in the other rotations under both N1 and N2 rates. Thus,in view of the higher grain yield in the RP compared to the RW under the N1 rate, the RP rotation might be a promising practice with comparable grain yield and greater N use efficiency under reduced N input relative to the other rotations. The primary yield components of the RF and RP were identified as number of panicles m-2 and numbers of kernels panicle-1, respectively. | 2 | Whole-Brain Mapping of Direct Inputs to and Axonal Projections from GABAergic Neurons in the Parafacial Zone显示文摘The GABAergic neurons in the parafacial zone(PZ) play an important role in sleep-wake regulation and have been identified as part of a sleep-promoting center in the brainstem, but the long-range connections mediating this function remain poorly characterized. Here, we performed whole-brain mapping of both the inputs and outputs of the GABAergic neurons in the PZ of the mouse brain. We used the modified rabies virus Env A-DG-Ds Red combined with a Cre/lox P gene-expression strategy to map the direct monosynaptic inputs to the GABAergic neurons in the PZ, and found that they receive inputs mainly from the hypothalamic area, zona incerta, and parasubthalamic nucleus in the hypothalamus; the substantia nigra, pars reticulata and deep mesencephalic nucleus in the midbrain;and the intermediate reticular nucleus and medial vestibular nucleus(parvocellular part) in the pons and medulla.We also mapped the axonal projections of the PZ GABAergic neurons with adeno-associated virus, and defined the reciprocal connections of the PZ GABAergic neurons with their input and output nuclei. The newlyfound inputs and outputs of the PZ were also listed compared with the literature. | 11 | PrP mutants with different numbers of octarepeat sequences are more susceptible to the oxidative stress显示文摘One of the physiological functions of cellular prion protein(PrP C )is believed to work as a cellular resistance to oxidative stress,in which the octarepeats region within PrP plays an important role.However,the detailed mechanism is less clear.In this study,the expressing plasmids of wild-type PrP (PrP-PG5)and various PrP mutants containing 0(PrP-PG0),9(PrP-PG9)and 12(PrP-PG12)octarepeats were generated and PrP proteins were expressed both in E.coli and in mammalian cells.Protein aggregation and formation of carbonyl groups were clearly seen in the recombinant PrPs expressed from E.coli after treatment of H2O2.MTT and trypan blue staining assays revealed that the cells expressing the mutated PrPs within octarepeats are less viable than the cells expressing wild-type PrP.Statistically significant high levels of intracellular free radicals and low levels of glutathione peroxidase were observed in the cells transfected with plasmids containing deleted or inserted octarepeats.Remarkably more productions of carbonyl groups were detected in the cells expressing PrPs with deleted and inserted octarepeats after exposing to H2O2.Furthermore,cells expressing wild-type PrP showed stronger resistant activity to the challenge of H2O2 at certain extent than the mutated PrPs and mock. | 12 | Solar radiation-use characteristics of indica/japonica hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L.) in the late season in southeast China显示文摘New indica and japonica hybrid rice cultivars,such as the Yongyou series,provide farmers with very high yield potential.However,information on their canopy light capture and solar radiation use efficiency in the late season is limited.Field experiments were performed to compare the radiation-use parameters of four rice types:indica rice(IR),inbred japonica rice(IJR),hybrid japonica rice(HJR),and hybrid indica/japonica rice(HIJR),from 2016 to 2018 during the late season in Hangzhou,China.The grain yield,aboveground biomass,intercepted solar radiation(SI),and radiation-use efficiency(RUE)of the HIJR were on average respectively 13.4%–53.4%,14.3%–30.6%,7.6%–21.4%,and 8.2%–14.9%higher than those of the HJR,IJR,and IR.The leaf area index(LAI)of the HIJR was 18.2%–57.0%greater than that of the IJR and HJR at four growth stages,resulting in respectively 17.8%–38.5%and 10.7%–42.8%greater canopy light interception rates(LIR)and amount of intercepted solar radiation during the vegetative stage.The prolonged grain-filling stage also led to respectively 33.9%–52.6%and 30.5%–51.4%increases in amounts of incident and intercepted radiation for the HIJR relative to the IR during grain filling.These results indicate that the SI superiority of the HIJR was caused by canopy closure as rapid as that of the IR during the vegetative stage(greater LAI and canopy LIR during the growing season)and a grain-filling stage as long as that of the HJR.For grain-filling stage,differences in leaf Pn between HIJR,IR,and IJR were not significant,suggesting that the greater RUE of the HIJR(12.7%–52.8%higher)than that of the other rice types resulted from improved canopy architecture after flowering(FL).Principal components analysis(PCA)revealed that the superiority of the HIJR in terms of solar radiation use resulted from the greater canopy light capture capability of IR and the prolonged growth period(especially during grain filling)of japonica rice in the late growing season. | Min Yin Shaowen Liu Xi Zheng Guang Chu Chunmei Xu Xiufu Zhang Dangying Wang Song Chen | 2021 | The Crop Journal2021,9,2: | 3 |
| 13 | A community-based comprehensive intervention to reduce syphilis infection—among low-fee female sex workers in China:a matched-pair,community-based randomized study显示文摘Background:Low-fee female sex workers(FSWs)are at high risk of acquiring and spreading human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)/sexually transmitted diseases(STDs)in China.There is an urgent need to develop comprehensive intervention measures targeted towards low-fee FSWs to reduce HIV/STD infections.Thus,this study aimed to reduce HIV/STD infections among low-fee FSW through a matched-pair,comiDunity-based randomized intervention trial carried out in 12 cities in three provinces in China.Methods:Four cities from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region,four from Yunnan Province,and four from Hunan Province were paired and participants received either the intervention package(including condom promotion,HIV and syphilis testing,reimbursement for syphilis treatment costs,and free anti-retroviral therapy or the current standard of care.Venue-based,convenience sampling was used to recruit FSWs.A face-to-face interview and HIV and syphilis blood testing was conducted at baseline and follow-up intervals of 24 months.Generalized linear mixed models(GLMM)were used to evaluate the effect of the intervention package on reducing HIV/STD infection in the FSWs.Results:A total of 1024 eligible FSWs were enrolled in the baseline survey and 843 in the follow-up.GLMM results showed that syphilis infeaion was reduced by 49%in the intervention group compared to the current standard of care group(P=0.0378,OR=0.51;95%CI:0.27-0.96).FSWs aged 35 years or older were 2.38 times more likely to get syphilis infection compared to those younger than 35 years old(P<0.0001,OR=2.38,95%CI:1.55-3.65).The risk of syphilis infection among more educated FSWs was 0.43 times less than those with lower levels of education(P<0.05,OR=0.43,95%CI:0.63-0.93).Conclusions:This study demonstrates that comprehensive interventions can lead to significant declines in syphilis infection amongst low-tier FSWs.Integrating both behavioral and biomedical intervention measures should be considered when developing programs for low-fee FSWs.Trial registration:CHiCTR-TRC-12002655. | Wei Dong Chu Zhou Ke-Ming Rou Zun-You Wu Jun Chen Sarah Robbins Scott Man-Hong Jia Yue-Jiao Zhou Xi Chen | 2019 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2019,8,6: | 2 |
| 14 | The DNMT1-PAS1-PH20 axis drives breast cancer growth and metastasis显示文摘PH20 is a member of the human hyaluronidase family that degrades hyaluronan in the extracellular matrix and controls tumor progression.Inhibition of DNA methyltransferases(DNMTs)leads to elevated hyaluronan levels;however,whether DNMT inhibitors control PH20 remains unclear.Here,we report that the DNMT1 inhibitor,decitabine,suppresses PH20 expression by activating the long non-coding RNA PHACTR2-AS1(PAS1).PAS1 forms a tripartite complex with the RNA-binding protein vigilin and histone methyltransferase SUV39H1.The interaction between PAS1 and vigilin maintains the stability of PAS1.Meanwhile,PAS1 recruits SUV39H1 to trigger the H3K9 methylation of PH20,resulting in its silencing.Functionally,PAS1 inhibits breast cancer growth and metastasis,at least partially,by suppressing PH20.Combination therapy of decitabine and PAS1-30nt-RNA,which directly binds to SUV39H1,effectively blocked breast cancer growth and metastasis in mice.Taken together,DNMT1,PAS1,and PH20 comprise a regulatory axis to control breast cancer growth and metastasis.These findings reveal that the DNMT1-PAS1-PH20 axis is a potential therapeutic target for breast cancer. | Yenan Fu Xi Zhang Xiao Liu Peng Wang Wenhui Chu Wei Zhao Yunling Wang Guangbiao Zhou Yu Yu Hongquan Zhang | 2022 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,4: | 2 |
| 15 | Development of RSDS-III Technology for Ultra-Low-Sulfur Gasoline Production显示文摘The 3rd generation catalytic cracking naphtha selective hydrodesulfurization(RSDS-III) technology developed by RIPP included the catalysts selective adjusting(RSAT) technology, the development of new catalysts and optimized process conditions. The pilot plant test results showed that the RSDS-III technology could be adapted to different feedstocks. The sulfur content dropped from 600 μg/g and 631 μg/g to 7 μg/g and 9 μg/g, respectively, by RSDS-III technology when feed A and feed B were processed to meet China national V gasoline standard, with the RON loss of products equating to 0.9 units and 1.0 unit, respectively. While the feed C with a medium sulfur content was processed according to the full-range naphtha hydrotreating technology, the sulfur content dropped from 357 μg/g in the feed to 10 μg/g in gasoline, with the RON loss of product decreased by only 0.6 units. | 16 | High-pressure experimental verification of rutile-ilmenite oxybarometer: Implications for the redox state of the subduction zone显示文摘The more oxidized mantle peridotites above subducting slabs than stable continental areas have been attributed to the infiltration of some oxidizing fluids released from the subducting slabs. However, knowledge for the redox states of the slabs itself is very limited. Until now, few oxybarometers can be directly used to constrain the redox states of the subducting slabs.The rutile-ilmenite oxybarometer was proposed and successfully applied to constrain the oxygen fugacity of mantle assemblages.However, its application to rocks equilibrated at crustal P-T conditions has been hampered by some uncertainties in an early solid solution model of ilmenite. With a newly-released solid solution model for the ilmenite, we have conducted high-P experiments(at 3 and 5 GPa, and 900–1300°C) to test the accuracy of this oxybarometer. The experiments were performed with their oxygen fugacities controlled by the CCO buffer(i.e., C+O_2=CO_2). We demonstrated that the oxygen fugacities calculated for our high-P experimental products by using the rutile-ilmenite oxybarometer were in excellent agreement with the fO_2 dictated by the CCO buffer, suggesting a wide applicability of this oxybarometer to crust rocks. | 17 | Growth and property enhancement of Er^(3+)-doped 0.68Pb(Mg_(1/3)Nb_(2/3))O_3-0.32PbTiO_3 single crystal显示文摘Er^(3+)-modified 0.68 Pb(Mg_(1/3)Nb_(2/3))O_3-0.32 PbTiO_3(PMN-32 PT) single crystals were grown by using the flux method. The growth mechanism of the crystal and influences of Er^(3+) ions on phase structure,electrical and optical properties were investigated. Results reveal that the crystals are still pure perovskite structure with Er3+ ions doping, but lattice enlarges slightly. The coercive electric field is increased from 4.83 to 6.37 kV/cm for [100]-oriented crystals comparing to undoped PMN-32 PT single crystals.Moreover, the crystal exhibits upconversion emission properties. Green(531 and 552 nm) and red(670 nm) emission bands are recorded under the excitation of 980 nm diode laser, which correspond to the ~2 H_(11/2)→~4 I_(15/2), ~4 S_(3/2)→~4 I_(15/2) and ~4 F_(9/2)→~4 I_(15/2) transitions of Er^(3+) ions. Dye was introduced to the upper layer and the concentration of the dye was determined using a video imaging method. The mass center of the heavier upper layer moved continuously to a lower elevation because of the intrusion of the heavier fluid into the lower layer and the lighter fluid into the upper layer. The downward movement of the mass center was accurately determined from the dye concentration profile. | 19 | 植物物种多度受功能性状和负密度依赖共同影响--以中国南亚热带黑石顶森林样地为例显示文摘影响植物群落中植物物种多度的因素较多,确定关键影响因素及阐明其具体机制一直是群落生态学的研究重点之一。目前确定性的影响因素主要有两大类:植物功能性状和负密度依赖。功能性状通过影响植物的竞争能力、资源的获取效率、对环境的适应能力等方面进而影响植物的多度;负密度依赖表现在同种或异种植物个体在空间上聚集,特异性的寄主(病原菌、昆虫等)传播容易导致植物个体(主要为幼苗和小树)死亡,种群发生自疏,进而影响植物的多度。到目前为止,单一探究植物功能性状或负密度依赖对植物多度影响机制的研究己有大量报道,而将两者结合来探讨对植物多度的影响的工作相对较少。为了更深入地探索影响植物多度的机制,本研究中我们综合分析了功能性状与负密度依赖对植物多度的影响。研究地点为广东省黑石顶亚热带森林50 ha大样地;功能性状方面选取了叶面积(LA)、比叶面积(SLA)、叶片干物质含量(LDMC)、叶片氮含量(LNC)和最大电子传输速率(ETRmax);植物物种所受负密度依赖强度通过构建小树在样地两次普查期间的存活状况受邻体密度影响的层次贝叶斯模型计算;通过结构方程模型构建功能性状-负密度依赖-物种多度的内在联系框架。结构方程模型结果显示,物种多度受功能性状和负密度依赖共同作用,其中功能性状对物种多度的影响包括直接作用和通过负密度依赖的间接作用。具体来说,SLA对多度的影响包括直接和间接两种;LDMC和LNC仅间接影响物种多度;LA和ETRmax对多度只有直接影响:负密度依赖与物种多度之间存在直接的负相关关系,说明多度较高的物种受到的负密度依赖效应更强。结构方程模型对物种多度差异的解释度达到20%。以上结果表明,黑石顶植物多度分布是功能性状与负密度依赖共同作用的结果;比叶面积在所研究的因素中贡献最大。该项工作有助于提高我们对亚热带森林植物常见种和稀有种分布格局的理解。 | Weitao Wang Yun Jiang Buhang Li Nianxun Xi Yongfa Chen Dong He Jiayi Feng Chengjin Chu | 2021 | Journal of Plant Ecology2021,14,3: | 2 |
| 20 | Prognostic significance of the hemoglobin A1c level in non-diabetic patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: a meta-analysis显示文摘Background:The predictive value of hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)levels in non-diabetic patients with myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)is still controversial.This study aimed to evaluate whether HbA1c levels were independently associated with adverse clinical outcomes in non-diabetic patients with coronary artery disease(CAD)who had undergone PCI by performing a meta-analysis of cohort studies.Methods:This meta-analysis included non-diabetic patients with CAD who had undergone PCI.A systematic search for publications listed in the PubMed,Embase,and Cochrane Library databases from commencement to December 2018 was conducted.Studies evaluating the adverse clinical outcomes according to abnormal HbA1c levels in non-diabetic patients diagnosed with CAD who had undergone PCI were eligible.The primary outcomes were long-term all-cause deaths and long-term major adverse cardiac events,and the secondary outcome was short-term all-cause deaths.The meta-analysis was conducted with RevMan 5.3 and Stata software 14.0.Odds ratios(ORs)were pooled using a random or fixed-effects model,depending on the heterogeneity of the included studies.Sub-group analysis or sensitivity analysis was conducted to explore potential sources of heterogeneity,when necessary.Results:Six prospective cohort studies involving 10,721 patients met the inclusion criteria.From the pooled analysis,abnormal HbA1c levels were associated with increased risk for long-term all-cause death(OR 1.39,95%confidence interval[CI]1.16-1.68,P=0.001,I2=45%).Sub-group analysis suggested that abnormal HbA1c levels between 6.0%and 6.5%predicted higher long-term major adverse cardiac event(including all-cause deaths,non-fatal myocardial infarction,target lesion revascularization,target vessel revascularization,recurrent acute myocardial infarction,heart failure requiring hospitalization,and stent thrombosis)risk(OR 2.05,95%CI 1.46-2.87,P<0.001,I2=0).Contrarily,elevated HbA1c levels were not associated with increased risk of short-term all-cause death(OR 1.16,95%CI 0.88-1.54,P=0.300,I2=0).Conclusions:An abnormal HbA1c level is an independent risk factor for long-term adverse clinical events in non-diabetic patients with CAD after PCI.Strict control of HbA1c levels may improve patient survival.Further studies in different countries and prospective cohort studies with a large sample size are required to verify the association. | Yan Li Xiao-Wen Li Yin-Hua Zhang Lei-Min Zhang Qing-Qing Wu Zhao-Run Bai Jin Si Xue-Bing Zuo Ning Shi Jing Li Xi Chu | 2020 | Chinese Medical Journal2020,,18: | 2 |
