| 1 | A Review Featuring Fabrication, Properties and Applications of Carbon Nanotubes(CNTs) Reinforced Polymer and Epoxy Nanocomposites显示文摘Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have long been recognized as the stiffest and strongest man-made material known to date. In addition, their high electrical conductivity has roused interest in the areas of electrical appliances and communication related applications. However, due to their miniature size, the excellent properties of these nanostructures can only be exploited if they are homogeneously embedded into light-weight matrices as those offered by a whole series of engineering polymers. In order to enhance their chemical affinity to engineering polymer matrices, chemical modification of the graphitic sidewalls and tips is necessary. The mechanical and electrical properties to date of a whole range of nanocomposites of various carbon nanotube contents are also reviewed in this attempt to facilitate progress in this emerging area. Recently, carbonaceous nano-fillers such as graphene and carbon nanotubes(CNTs) play a promising role due to their better structural and functional properties and broad range of applications in every field. Since CNTs usually form stabilized bundles due to van der Waals interactions, they are extremely difficult to disperse and align in a polymer matrix. The biggest issues in the preparation of CNTs reinforced composites reside in efficient dispersion of CNTs into a polymer matrix, the assessment of the dispersion, and the alignment and control of the CNTs in the matrix. An overview of various CNT functionalization methods is given. In particular, CNT functionalization using click chemistry and the preparation of CNT composites employing hyperbranched polymers are stressed as potential techniques to achieve good CNT dispersion. | 2 | Function of note strings in Japanese Tit alarm calls to the Common Cuckoo:a playback experiment显示文摘Background: Birds produce alarm calls to convey information about threats. Some Passerine alarm calls consist of several note strings, but few studies have examined their function. Previous studies have shown that Japanese Tits(Parus minor) can alter the calling rate and number and combination of notes in response to predators. We previously found the combinations of note types in Japanese Tit alarm calls to be significantly different in response to the Sparrowhawk(Accipiter nisus) and Common Cuckoo(Cuculus canorus).Methods: Through playback experiments, we tested whether the note strings in Japanese Tit alarm calls to the Common Cuckoo have different functions in conveying information. The note strings of selected alarm calls were divided into the categories of C and D, and different calls were then constructed separately based on the two note string categories. Original alarm calls(C–D), C calls and D calls were played back to male Japanese Tits during the incubation period.Results: Male Japanese Tits had a significantly stronger response to C calls than to C–D calls, and they showed a significantly stronger response to both C and C–D calls than to D calls, suggesting that Japanese Tits discriminated between the C and D calls.Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that the C-and D-category note strings of Japanese Tit alarm calls to the Common Cuckoo have different functions, which supports the previous finding that different note strings in an alarm call can provide different information to receivers. | 3 | CRISPR-Cas13a mediated nanosystem for attomolar detection of canine parvovirus type 2显示文摘Canine parvovirus type 2(CPV-2) infection is the most lethal disease of dogs with higher mortality in puppies worldwide.In today’s world,dogs are an integral part of our communities as well as dogs breeding and rearing has become a lucrative business.Therefore,a fast,accurate,portable,and costeffective CPV-2 detection method with the ability for on-site detection is highly desired.In this study,we for the first time proposed a nanosystem for CPV-2 DNA detection with RNA-guided RNA endonuclease Cas13 a,which upon activation results in collateral RNA degradation.We expressed LwCasl3 a in prokaryotic expression system and purified it through nickel column.Activity of Cas13 a was verified by RNA-bound fluorescent group while using a quenched fluorescent probe as signals.Further Cas13 a was combined with Recombinase polymerase amplification(RPA) and T7 transcription to establish molecular detection system termed specific high-sensitivity enzymatic reporter un-locking(SHERLOCK) for sensitive detection of CPV-2 DNA.This nanosystem can detect 100 amol/L CPV-2 DNA within 30 min.The proposed nanosystem exhibited high specificity when tested for CPV-2 and other dog viruses.This CRISPR-Cas13 a mediated sensitive detection approach can be of formidable advantage during CPV-2 outbreaks because it is time-efficient,less laborious and does not involve the use of sophisticated instruments. | Haroon Khan Adeel Khan Yufeng Liu Su Wang Sumaira Bibi Hongpan Xu Yuan Liu Samran Durrani Lian Jin Nongyue He Tao Xiong | 2019 | Chinese Chemical Letters2019,30,12: | 8 |
| 4 | Carcinoma in situ in a 7 mm gallbladder polyp: Time to change current practice?显示文摘Detection of polypoid lesions of the gallbladder is increasing in conjunction with better imaging modalities. Accepted management of these lesions depends on their size and symptomatology. Polyps that are symptomatic and/or greater than 10 mm are generally removed, while smaller, asymptomatic polyps simply monitored. Here, a case of carcinoma-in-situ is presented in a 7 mm gallbladder polyp. A 25-year-old woman, who had undergone a routine cholecystectomy, was found to have an incidental 7 mm polyp containing carcinoma in situ. She had few to no risk factors to alert to her condition. There are few reported cases of cancer transformation in gallbladder polyps smaller than 10 mm reported in the literature. The overwhelming consensus, barring significant risk factors for cancer being present, is that such lesions should be monitored until they become symptomatic or develop signs suspicious for malignancy. In our patient's case this could have led to the possibility of missing a neoplastic lesion, which could then have gone on to develop invasive cancer. | 8 | Temperature stability of SmCo(2:17) magnets modified by Ni-Cr two-layer coating显示文摘The oxidation resistance behavior of SmCo(2:17)-type high-temperature magnets modified with Ni-Cr two-layer coating was studied. The study depicts the mass gain kinetics and magnetic properties of uncoated and NiCr-modified magnets oxidized at high temperature(500 ℃) in air for 200 h. The oxidation test results illustrate that the mass gain of uncoated magnet is6.95 mg·cm^(-2) which is more than that(0.08 mg·cm^(-2)) of coated magnet after 200 h. For the magnetic properties concerned, there is a great loss for uncoated magnet, while for coated magnet, magnetic properties do not change much. The edge site of these2D materials exhibits HER-active properties, whereas the large-area basal plane is inactive.Therefore, recent studies and methodologies have been investigated to improve the performance of TMD-based materials by activating inactive sites through elemental doping strategies. In this review,we focus on the metal and non-metal dopant effects on group VI TMDs such as MoS_(2) MoSe_(2) WS_(2)and WSe_(2) for promoting HER performances in acidic electrolytes. A general introduction to the HER is initially provided to explain the parameters in accessing the catalytic performance of dopedTMDs. Then, synthetic methods for doped-TMDs and their HER performances are introduced in order to understand the effect of various dopants including metallic and non-metallic elements. | 14 | Hot corrosion of surface-modified Sm_(2)Co_(17) high-temperature magnet with Ni and Ni/Cr bilayer coatings in 75 wt% Na_(2)SO_(4)–NaCl mixture显示文摘Hot corrosion behavior of Sm_(2)(Co, Fe, Cu,Zr)17-type high-temperature magnetic alloy without and with a protective coating of Ni and Ni/Cr bilayer at 500 ℃ in a corrosive mixture of 75 wt% Na_(2)SO_(4)–NaCl for 100 h was reported in this paper. The obtained results of timedependent weight change established the parabolic growth of oxidized surface of bare magnets(8.87 mg·cm^(-2)),which caused a rapid loss of magnetic properties measured both at room and high temperatures(500 ℃). | 15 | In vitro inhibition of pigmentation and fiber development in colored cotton显示文摘Colored cotton has naturally pigmented fibers.The mechanism of pigmentation in cotton fiber is not well documented.This experiment was conducted to study the effects of respiratory chain inhibitors,i.e.,rotenone and thiourea,on pigmentation and fiber development in colored cotton.After 1 d post-anthesis,ovaries were harvested and developing ovules were cultured on the liquid medium containing different concentrations of rotenone and thiourea for 30 d.The results demonstrate that both respiratory inhibitors reduced fiber length and ovule development under ovule culture conditions,and the inhibition efficiency of rotenone was much higher than that of thiourea.Rotenone and thiourea also showed significant effects on fiber pigment (color) development in colored cotton.In green cotton fiber,rotenone advanced fiber pigment development by 7 d at 200 μmol/L,while thiourea inhibited fiber pigmentation at all treatment levels (400,600,800,1000,and 2000 μmol/L).Both respiratory inhibitors,however,had no significant effects on pigmentation of brown cotton fibers.The activities of cytochrome c oxidase (COX) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) decreased significantly with increasing levels of both respiratory inhibitors.It is suggested that both respiratory inhibitors have important roles in deciphering the mechanism of pigmentation and fiber development in colored cotton. | Shu-na YUAN Waqas MALIK Shui-jin HUA Noreen BIBI Xue-de WANG | 2012 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2012,13,6: | 2 |
| 16 | Catalytic Hydrogenation of Acetic Acid to Acetaldehyde: Synergistic Effect of Bifunctional Co/Ce-Fe Oxide Solid Solution Catalysts显示文摘The large-scale industrial production of acetic acid (HAc) from carbonylation of methanol has enabled intense research interest from direct hydrogenation of HAc to acetaldehyde (AA).Herein,a series of cerium-iron oxide solid solution supported metallic cobalt catalysts were prepared by modified sol-gel method and were applied in gas-phase hydrogenation of HAc to AA.A synergistic effect between the hydrogenation metal cobalt and Ce-Fe oxide solid solution is revealed.Specifically,oxygen vacancies provide the active sites for adsorption of HAc,while highly uniformly dispersed metallic Co adsorbs H2 and activates the reduction of HAc into AA.Moreover,the metallic Co can also assist the cyclical conversion between Fe3+/Fe2+ and Ce3+/Ce4+ on the surface of Ce1.xFexO2-δ supports.The unique effect substantially enhances the ability of the support material to rapidly capture oxygen atoms from HAc.It is found that the catalyst of 5% Co/Ce0.8Fe0.2O2-δ with the highest concentration of oxygen vacancy presents the best catalytic performance (i.e.acetaldehyde yield reaches 49.9%) under the optimal reaction conditions (i.e.623 K and H2 flow rate =10 mL/min).This work indicates that the Co/Ce-Fe oxide solid solution catalyst can be potentially used for the selective hydrogenation from HAc to AA.The synergy between the metallic Co and Ce1-xFexO2-δ revealed can be extended to the design of other composite catalysts. | Naixu Li Qi Zhang Rehana Bibi Quanhao Shen Richard Ngulube Yunyi Liu Jiancheng Zhou | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Chemistry2019,37,7: | 2 |
