1Sorption and Fractionation of a Peat Derived Humic Acid by Kaolinite, Montmorillonite, and Goethite显示文摘Sorption of humic acid (HA) on mineral surfaces has a profound interest regarding the fate of hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) and carbon sequestration in soils. The objective of our study is to determine the fractionation behavior of HA upon sorption on mineral surfaces with varying surface properties. HA was coated sequentially on kaolinite (1:1 clay), montmorillonite (2:1 clay), and goethite (iron oxide) for four times. The unadsorbed HA fractions were characterized by elemental analysis, diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFT), and solid state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). The mineral-HA complexes were characterized by DRIFT. Polarity index [(N+O)/C] revealed higher polarity of the unadsorbed HA fractions after coating on kaolinite, reflecting that relatively higher polarity fractions of HA remain unadsorbed. Sorption of aliphatic alcohol fraction along with carbohydrate was prominent on kaolinite surface. DRIFT results of the unadsorbed HA fractions indicated more sorption of aliphatic moieties on both kaolinite and montmorillonite. DRIFT results of the unadsorbed HA fractions after sorption on kaolinite and goethite showed the sorption of the proteinaceous fractions of HA. The HA fractions obtained after coating on goethite showed significant sorption of carboxylic moieties. The results mentioned above comply reasonably well with the DRIFT spectra of the mineral-HA complexes. 13C NMR results showed higher sorption of anomeric C on kaolinite surface. Higher sorption of paraffinic fraction was observed on montmorillonite. NMR data inferred the sorption of carboxylic moieties on goethite surface. Overall, this study showed that aliphatic moieties of HA preferentially sorbed on kaolinite and montmorillonite, while carboxylic functional groups play a significant role in sorption of HA on goethite. 3Return and Volatility Spillovers Effects:Study of Asian Emerging Stock Markets显示文摘This paper examines the extent of contagion and interdependence across the six Asian emerging countries stock markets(e.g., Bangladesh, China, India, Malaysia, the Philippine, and South Korea) and then try to quantify the extent of the Asian emerging market fluctuations which are described by intra-regional contagion effect. These markets experienced both fast growth and key upheaval during the sample period, and thus, provide potentially rich information on the nature of border market interactions. Using the daily stock market index data from January 2002 to December 2016(breaking the 15 years data set into three sub periods; pre-crisis, crisis, and post crisis periods);particularly make attention to the global financial crisis of 2007~2008. The return and volatility spillovers are modeled through the GARCH(generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity),pairwise Granger causality tests, and the forecast error variance decomposition in a generalized VAR(vector auto regression) models. This paper shows that volatility and return spillovers behave very differently over time, during the pre-crisis, crisis, and post crisis periods. Importantly, Asian emerging stock markets interaction is less before the global financial crisis period. 5Predictors of mortality among HIV-infected patients initiating anti retroviral therapy at a tertiary care hospital in Eastern India显示文摘Objective:To assess early mortality and identify its predictors among the ART naive HIV-infected patients initiating anti retroviral therapy(ART) available free of cost at the ART Centres. Methods:A retrospective cohort analysis of routinely collected programme data was done for assessing mortality of all ART naive adult patients who received first-line ART at a government tertiary care hospital in eastern India during 1st March 2009 and 28th February 2010.Bivariate and multiple regression analyses of the baseline demographic,clinical and laboratory records using SPSS 15.0 were done to identify independent predictors of mortality.Results:The mortality rate at one year was estimated to be 7.66(95%CI 5.84-9.83) deaths/100 patient-years and more than 50%of the deaths occurred during first three months of ART initiation with a median time interval of 73 days.Tuberculosis was the major cause of death.ART naive patients with baseline serum albumin <3.5 mg/dL were eight(OR 7.9;95%CI:3.8-16.5) at risk of death than those with higher serum albumin levels and patients with CD4 count <I00 cells/μL were two times(OR 2.2; 95%CI:1.1-4.4) at risk of death compared to higher CD4 counts.Conclusions:Risk of mortality is increased when ART is initiated at advanced stages of immunosuppression denoted by low serum albumin levels and CD4 cell counts.This highlights the importance of early detection of HIV infection,early management of opportunistic infections including tuberculosis and timely initiation of the antiretroviral drugs in the resource-limited countries,now available free in the Indian national ART programme.Ananya Bhowmik Subhasis Bhandari Rajyasree De Subhasish Kamal Guha 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,12:3
6Load shedding strategy coordinated with storage device and D-STATCOM to enhance the microgrid stability显示文摘Recently microgrids have drawn a potential attraction by fulfilling the environmental demands and the increasing energy demands of the end-users. It is necessary to focus on various protection and control aspects of a microgrid. During the transition between the grid-following and grid-forming modes, the voltage and the frequency instability due to the power mismatch condition becomes the major point of concern. Therefore, the paper executes a frequency-active power and voltage-reactive power drooping control strategy for the precise power-sharing among the distributed power generators. Furthermore, to handle the power deficit scenarios and to maintain the system stability, a system independent and priority-based adaptive three-stage load shedding strategy is proposed. The sensitivity of the strategy depends on the system inertia and is computed according to the varying absolute rate-of-change-of-frequency. The strategy incorporates the operation of battery storage system and distributed static compensator (D-STATCOM) in the microgrid, to provide a reliable power supply to the customers for a considerable time instead of a sudden load shedding. 7DEVELOPMENT OF NWP BASED OBJECTIVE CYCLONE PREDICTION SYSTEM(CPS) FOR NORTH INDIAN OCEAN TROPICAL CYCLONES——EVALUATION OF PERFORMANCE显示文摘An objective NWP based Cyclone Prediction System(CPS) has been developed and implemented at IMD for operational cyclone forecasting over the north Indian Ocean(NIO). The five forecast components of CPS are(a) Genesis Potential Parameter(GPP),(b) Multi-Model Ensemble(MME) technique for track prediction,(c) Statistical Cyclone Intensity Prediction(SCIP),(d) rapid intensification and(e) decay model to forecast intensity after the landfall.Verification shows GPP had higher probability of detection(0.98) and lower false alarm ratio(0.27) with higher critical success index(0.72). Mean track error of MME ranged from 74 km at 12 h to 200 km at 72 h and reduced by 27% to 52% for 36 h to 72 h forecast during 2009-2013. The mean forecast errors of landfall position ranged from 56 km at 24 h to 137 km at 72 h and landfall time error ranged from 3.6 h at 24 h to 6.1 h at 72 h. Mean intensity errors of SCIP ranged from 5.4 kt at 12 h to 16.9 kt at 72 h. The probabilistic rapid intensification forecast was skillful compared to climatology. The 6-hourly decaying intensity(after landfall) errors ranged from 3 kt to 4.9 kt. 10Influence of peach(Prunus persica Batsch)phenological stage on the short-term changes in oxidizable and labile pools of soil organic carbon and activities of carbon-cycle enzymes in the North-Western Himalayas显示文摘The labile organic carbon(C)and C-related enzymes are sensitive indicators capturing alterations of soil organic matter(SOM),even in a short-time scale.Although the effects of crop husbandry and land use change on these attributes have been well studied,there is no consensus about how plant phenology may impact them.This study aimed to determine the short-term effect o f six distinct phenological stages(PS-1:full bloom;PS-2:fruit set;PS-3:pit hardening;PS-4:physiological maturity;PS-5:60 d after physiological maturity;and PS-6:fall)o f peach on the changes in soil organic carbon(SOC)fractions of different oxidizability,labile C pools,and C-cycle enzyme activities in soils,for two consecutive years(2015 and 2016)in the North-Western Himalayas(NWH).Peach rhizosphere soils were sampled at the topsoil(0-15 cm)and subsoil(16-30 cm)layers,along with rhizosphere soils from adjacent perennial grasses,which served as a control.Values for most of the assessed parameters,including very labile C,labile C,microbial biomass C,permanganate oxidizable C,dissolved organic C,mineralizable C,amylase activity,and carboxymethyl-cellulase activity,were significantly(P<0.05)higher at PS-3 than at other phenological stages of peach.Conversely,a sudden decline in these soil variables was recorded at PS-5,followed by a slight buildup at PS-6,particularly in the topsoil of the peach orchard.Short-term changes in organic C fractions of different oxidizability,influenced by peach phenological stage,significantly(P<0.05)affected C management index,C pool index,and lability index.Both the C management index and lability index showed their highest values at PS-3 and their lowest values at PS-5,clearly indicating short-term accretion and depletion of SOC,in tandem with the peach phenological events.Principal component analysis suggested that a composite of soil indicators,including microbial biomass C,dissolved organic C,amylase,and invertase,could help detect short-term changes in SOC content.It is concluded that peach phenological events had a major impact on the short-term variations of the studied soil variables,which could be attributed to changes in the above-and belowground plant residues,as well as the extent of nutrients and water acquisition.Sovan DEBNATH Brij Lai ATTRI Anil KUMAR Arun KISHOR Raj NARAYAN Kanchan SINHA Arpan BHOWMIK Anil SHARMA Desh Beer SINGH 2020Pedosphere2020,30,5:2
11A Study on the Volatility of the Bangladesh Stock Market--Based on GARCH Type Models显示文摘The generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity(GARCH) type models are used to investigate the volatility of Bangladesh stock market. The findings of the study demonstrate that the index volatility characteristics changes over time. The article shows that the data are divided into three sub-periods: pre crisis, crisis, and post crisis. Accordingly, the results of the findings indicate changes in the GARCH-type models parameter, risk premium and persistence of volatility in different periods. A significant 'low-yield associated with high-risk' phenomenon is detected in the crisis period and the 'leverage effect' occurs in each periods. The investors are irrational which is based on assumption of risk and return characteristics of assets. Consequently, the market is not as mature as developed market. It is found in the article that the threshold generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity(TGARCH) model is more accurate for the model accuracy.
