| 1 | Distribution of organic carbon in sediments and its influences on adjacent sea area in the turbidity maximum of Changjiang Estuary in China显示文摘Distributions and sources of total organic carbon(TOC)in seabed sediments and their implications for hydrodynamics are analyzed,in the turbidity maximum of the Changjiang Estuary.Ecology ecoenvironmental effects of estuary water on the continuously increasing terrigenous organic carbon from the Changjiang River are also explored through variations of organic carbon content and water quality indicators.Results show that,hydrodynamics exert important influences on distributions of organic carbon in the turbidity maximum of Changjiang Estuary.For their redistribution effect of terrigenous organic carbon within the moving layer in the whole region,variations from land to sea are not indicated by surficial and vertical average values of TOC and total nitrogen(TN)contents in core sediment,as well as organic stable carbon isotopes in surface sediments.However,on the long-time scale,the trend of terrigenous organic carbon decreasing from land to sea is still displayed by variations of stable carbon isotopic average values becoming heavier from land to sea.Previous studies have shown that high content of Chl a cannot appear in the Changjiang Estuary in despite of adequate nourishment supply,because photosynthesis of phytoplankton is constrained by high suspended sediment concentration(SSC).However,an area with a high content of Chl a occurs,which may be caused by resuspended benthic algae with bottom fine grain-size sediments.Tremendous pressures are imposed on the environment of Changjiang Estuary,because of ultrophication trends and special hydrodynamics.Phytoplankton bloom area tends to extend from the outer sea to the mouth of Changjiang River. | GAO Jianhua WANG Yaping PAN Shaoming ZHANG Rui LI Jun BAI Fenglong | 2008 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2008,27,4: | 7 |

| 3 | Distribution and dispersal pattern of clay minerals in surface sediments,eastern Beibu Gulf,South China Sea显示文摘Clay minerology of sediments are useful in determining distribution,sources and dispersal routes of fine-grained sediments.In the present paper,clay minerals of surface sediments throughout the eastern part of Beibu Gulf has been investigated to reveal sources and transport of detrital finegrained sediments.Four distinct clay mineral suites were observed from cluster analysis of clay mineral compositions of the samples.From the distribution pattern of clay minerals,we conclude that kaolinte in the eastern gulf is mainly derived from South China Landmass;Smectite could not be transported mainly by surface current from north-western Hainan Island,and maybe minor portion of it from Red River;Illite is mainly transported by the currents from South China Sea.Chlorite has two sources,namely South China Sea and South China Landmass.The Zhujiang River derived sediments could not be one of the sources for the clay mineral here,because of very different composition and ratios.The distribution pattern of clay minerals in the eastern Beibu Gulf is mainly controlled by fine-grained sediment source and local currents.The Silt/Clay,Smectite/Kaolinte,and Smetite/(Chlorite+Illite) ratios could be used as indicators of fine-grained sediment dispersal in the gulf. | LI Jun GAO Jianhua WANG Yaping LI Yan BAI Fenglong CEES Laban | 2012 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2012,31,2: | 6 |
| 4 | Distribution and their pollution assessment of heavy metals in the sediments of the Yalu River Estuary and its adjacent coastal waters显示文摘The present paper deals with the distribution patterns of heavy metals and the associated influencing factors in the Yalu River Estuary and its adjacent coastal waters.Based upon the analysis of the surficial and core sediments measurements,the pollution of heavy metal and potential ecological risk were evaluated.The burial flux and contents of heavy metals(except for copper) have been continuously increasing since the 1920s.Therefore,the gross potential ecological risk for the sedi-ments was high or very high,and the study area was endangered by heavy metals contamination.Heavy metals originated mainly from upstream pollutant input,correlation analysis showed that chromium,nickel,zinc,cadmium,lead,arsenic,and mercury in the sediments of the middle and west channels as well as the sea area of the western Yalu River Estuary concentrations were most probably derived from similar sources.In contrast,the metal of copper most probably originated from sources different from the other metals.Preliminary studies indicate that copper contamination was most likely the result of emission from mining activities situated at the upstream of the river.The contents of heavy metals in the sediments of estuarine turbidity maximum zone of Yalu River were larger than those of any other areas in the middle channel.With large portion of fine sediments,weaker hydrodynamics,and richer sources of heavy metals,the sediments of the west channel,were even more enriched with heavy metals than those of the middle channel. | GAO Jianhua LI Jun Wang Harry V WANG Yaping WANG Zhenyan BAI Fenglong GAO Shu CHENG Yan | 2009 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2009,28,6: | 4 |
