| 1 | Reversibility and heritability of liver fibrosis:Implications for research and therapy显示文摘Liver fibrosis continues to be a major health problem worldwide due to lack of effective therapy.If the etiology cannot be eliminated,liver fibrosis progresses to cirrhosis and eventually to liver failure or malignancy;both are associated with a fatal outcome.Liver transplantation,the only curative therapy,is still mostly unavailable.Liver fibrosis was shown to be a reversible process;however,complete reversibility remains debatable.Recently,the molecular markers of liver fibrosis were shown to be transmitted across generations.Epigenetic mechanisms including DNA methylation,histone posttranslational modifications and noncoding RNA have emerged as major determinants of gene expression during liver fibrogenesis and carcinogenesis.Furthermore,epigenetic mechanisms have been shown to be transmitted through mitosis and meiosis to daughter cells and subsequent generations.However,the exact epigenetic regulation of complete liver fibrosis resolution and inheritance has not been fully elucidated.This communication will highlight the recent advances in the search for delineating the mechanisms governing resolution of liver fibrosis and the potential for multigenerational and transgenerational transmission of fibrosis markers.The fact that epigenetic changes,unlike genetic mutations,are reversible and can be modulated pharmacologically underscores the unique opportunity to develop effective therapy to completely reverse liver fibrosis,to prevent the development of malignancy and to regulate heritability of fibrosis phenotype. | Hussein M Atta | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,17: | 23 |

| 5 | Primary and secondary hyperoxaluria: Understanding the enigma显示文摘Hyperoxaluria is characterized by an increased urinary excretion of oxalate. Primary and secondary hyperoxaluria are two distinct clinical expressions of hyperoxaluria. Primary hyperoxaluria is an inherited error of metabolism due to defective enzyme activity. In contrast, secondary hyperoxaluria is caused by increased dietary ingestion of oxalate, precursors of oxalate or alteration in intestinal microflora. The disease spectrum extends from recurrent kidney stones, nephrocalcinosis and urinary tract infections to chronic kidney disease and end stage renal disease. When calcium oxalate burden exceeds the renal excretory ability, calcium oxalate starts to deposit in various organ systems in a process called systemic oxalosis. Increased urinary oxalate levels help to make the diagnosis while plasma oxalate levels are likely to be more accurate when patients develop chronic kidney disease. Definitive diagnosis of primary hyperoxaluria is achieved by genetic studies and if genetic studies prove inconclusive, liver biopsy is undertaken to establish diagnosis. Diagnostic clues pointing towards secondary hyperoxaluria are a supportive dietary history and tests to detect increased intestinal absorption of oxalate. Conservative treatment for both types of hyperoxaluria includes vigorous hydration and crystallization inhibitors to decrease calcium oxalate precipitation. Pyridoxine is also found to be helpful in approximately 30% patients with primary hyperoxaluria type 1. Liver-kidney and isolated kidney transplantation are the treatment of choice in primary hyperoxaluria type 1 and type 2 respectively. Data is scarce on role of transplantation in primary hyperoxaluria type 3 where there are no reports of end stage renal disease so far. There are ongoing investigations into newer modalities of diagnosis and treatment of hyperoxaluria. Clinical differentiation between primary and secondary hyperoxaluria and further between the types of primary hyperoxaluria is very important because of implications in treatment and diagnosis. | 7 | Updates in the pathophysiological mechanisms of Parkinson's disease: Emerging role of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells显示文摘AIM: To explore the approaches exerted by mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) to improve Parkinson's disease(PD) pathophysiology.METHODS: MSCs were harvested from bone marrowof femoral bones of male rats, grown and propagated in culture. Twenty four ovariectomized animals were classified into 3 groups: Group(1) was control, Groups(2) and(3) were subcutaneously administered with rotenone for 14 d after one month of ovariectomy for induction of PD. Then, Group(2) was left untreated, while Group(3) was treated with single intravenous dose of bone marrow derived MSCs(BM-MSCs). SRY gene was assessed by PCR in brain tissue of the female rats. Serum transforming growth factor beta-1(TGF-β1), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1) and brain derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) levels were assayed by ELISA. Brain dopamine DA level was assayed fluorometrically, while brain tyrosine hydroxylase(TH) and nestin gene expression were detected by semi-quantitative real time PCR. Brain survivin expression was determined by immunohistochemical procedure. Histopathological investigation of brain tissues was also done.RESULTS: BM-MSCs were able to home at the injured brains and elicited significant decrease in serum TGF-β1(489.7 ± 13.0 vs 691.2 ± 8.0, P < 0.05) and MCP-1(89.6 ± 2.0 vs 112.1 ± 1.9, P < 0.05) levels associated with significant increase in serum BDNF(3663 ± 17.8 vs 2905 ± 72.9, P < 0.05) and brain DA(874 ± 15.0 vs 599 ± 9.8, P < 0.05) levels as well as brain TH(1.18 ± 0.004 vs 0.54 ± 0.009, P < 0.05) and nestin(1.29 ± 0.005 vs 0.67 ± 0.006, P < 0.05) genes expression levels. In addition to, producing insignificant increase in the number of positive cells for survivin(293.2 ± 15.9 vs 271.5 ± 15.9, P > 0.05) expression. Finally, the brain sections showed intact histological structure of the striatum as a result of treatment with BM-MSCs. | 10 | 不同灌溉和施肥水平对东尼罗河三角洲地区甜菜产量、品质及部分水分指标的影响(英文)显示文摘【目的】2008~2009、2009~2010年分别在埃及El-Sharkia省Zankalon研究站进行不同灌溉和氮肥水平对甜菜产量、品质及水分指标的影响试验。【方法】采用裂区设计,分别设3个灌溉处理即I1(60%田间持水量)、I2(80%田间持水量)和I3(100%田间持水量)和3个施肥处理即N1(50kgN/fed)、N2(70kgN/fed)和N3(90kgN/fed)。【结果】灌水处理I1的甜菜块根和糖产量最高、根径最大,其次为处理I2,处理I3的最低。随着灌溉水平的提高,甜菜块根长和蔗糖含量明显下降。当施用90kgN/fed氮肥,甜菜根长、根径、块根和糖产量明显提高,但糖分则有所降低。灌溉和施氮肥处理均对蔗糖纯度没有明显影响。3个灌溉处理I1、I2和I3的水分利用量分别为3579.7、3042.0和2504.0m2/fed,季节耗水量分别为58.12、52.06和47.29cm,而甜菜块根产量、糖产量的水分利用率分别为15.86、13.78、13.35kg块根/m3水和2.73、2.61and2.56kg糖/m3水。随着施氮水平的提高,获得一定甜菜根产量和糖产量,所需的实际耗水量和水分利用率也不断提高。在东尼罗河三角洲地区的甜菜平均季节作物系数为0.87。【结论】可在东尼罗河三角洲地区推荐使用Kc经验值来计算耗水量。 | Abd El-Razek A M Atta Y I Hassan A F | 2011 | 南方农业学报2011,42,8: | 7 |

| 19 | 南极假丝酵母在纳米聚苯乙烯上的共价固载及其在微波辅助酯化反应中的应用(英文)显示文摘Nanopolystyrene was used as a solid support for the covalent immobilization of Candida antarctica lipase B(Cal B) using the photoreactive reagent 1‐fluoro‐2‐nitro‐4‐azido benzene(FNAB) as a cou‐pling reagent. The obtained derivative was then used as a biocatalyst in a microwave assisted ester‐ification experiment. Factors such as contact time, pH, and enzyme concentration were investigated during immobilization. The hydrolytic activity, thermal, and operational stability of immobi‐lized‐Cal B were determined. The maximum immobilized yield(218 μg/mg support) obtained at pH 6.8 exhibited optimum hydrolytic activity(4.42 × 103 mU p‐nitrophenol/min). The thermal stability of Cal B improved significantly when it was immobilized at pH 10, however, the immobilized yield was very low(93.6 μg/mg support). The immobilized‐Cal B prepared at pH 6.8 and pH 10 retained 50% of its initial activity after incubation periods of 14 and 16 h, respectively, at 60 °C. The opera‐tional stability was investigated for the microwave assisted esterification of oleic acid with metha‐nol. Immobilized‐Cal B retained 50% of its initial activity after 15 batch cycles in the micro‐wave‐assisted esterification. The esterification time was notably reduced under microwave irradia‐tion. | 20 | Distribution and Research Advances of Citrus tristeza virus显示文摘Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) is one of the most important causal agents of citrus diseases and exists as numerous strains.CTV is replicated in phloem cells of plants within the family Rutaceae and is transmitted by a few of aphid species.CTV epidemics have caused death of millions of citrus trees in many regions all over the world,where the sour orange (Citrus aurantium) was used as rootstock.Also the production of grapefruit (C.paradisi) and sweet orange (C.sinensis) has been affected by CTV strains.CTV gives uplift to three prominent syndromes,namely quick-decline (tristeza),stempitting and seedling-yellows.The disease is graft-transmissible in nature but not seed-transmitted.However,the tristeza disease in most citrus groves was a man-made problem created by the desire of horticulturists to introduce cultivars from other citrus growing areas.The utmost importance of the disease called for review articles in numbers of plant protection,epidemiology books,citriculture and proceedings.This review collects the information with respects to disease history,distribution host range,virus isolates association,identification and detection,transmission and management;especially on the current status of CTV prevailing and controlling in Pakistan.It provides valuable information for CTV disease and its controlling approaches. | Sagheer Atta ZHOU Chang-yong ZHOU Yan CAO Meng-ji WANG Xue-feng | 2012 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2012,11,3: | 2 |
