| 1 | Evaluation of photosynthesis, physiological, and biochemical responses of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L. cv. Pirouz) under water deficit stress and use of vermicompost fertilizer显示文摘One goal in the face of drought stress conditions is to increase growth and yield through the reduction of negative effects of stress. Vermicompost can play an effective role in plant growth and development and in reducing harmful effects of various environmental stresses on plants due to its porous structure, high water storage capacity, having hormone-like substances, plant growth regulators, and high levels of macro and micro nutrients. This study considered the physiological, biochemical, and photosynthetic responses of the chickpea to different combinations of vermicompost and water stress in a greenhouse environment. Two factors were involved, addition of vermicompost to soil at four ratios: control(100 wt%(weight percentage) soil); 10 wt% vermicompost+90% soil; 20 wt% vermicompost+80 wt% soil; 30 wt% vermicompost+70 wt% soil weight percentage, and treatment of water stress at three levels including 75, 50, and 25% of field capacity. The results showed that vermicompost had a significant effect on all traits under stress and non-stress conditions. Application of vermicompost in soil, especially at the levels of 20 and 30 wt% significantly increased all studied traits under non-stress conditions. Under moderate stress conditions, vermicompost at 30 wt% treatment resulted in a significant increase in the photosynthetic pigments, CO_2 assimilation rate, internal leaf CO_2 concentration, transpiration, the maximal quantum yield of photosystem II(PSII) photochemistry(F_v/F_m), concentrations of Ca and K in root and leaf tissues, proline and soluble protein contents in root tissues. Peroxidase(POX) and catalase(CAT) enzyme activities decreased significantly with increasing proportions of vermicompost, but the activity of superoxide dismutase was not significantly different. | 2 | Dominant pulse simulation of near fault ground motions显示文摘In this study, a new mathematical model is developed composed of two parts, including harmonic and polynomial expressions for simulating the dominant velocity pulse of near fault ground motions. Based on a proposed velocity function, the corresponding expressions for the ground acceleration and displacement time histories are also derived. The proposed model is then fitted using some selected pulse-like near fault ground motions in the Next Generation Attenuation (NGA) project library. The new model is not only simple in form but also simulates the long-period portion of actual velocity near fault records with a high level of precision. It is shown that the proposed model-based elastic response spectra are compatible with the near fault records in the neighborhood of the prevailing frequency of the pulse. The results indicate that the proposed model adequately simulates the components of the time histories. | 3 | An efficient hybrid evolutionary optimization algorithm based on PSO and SA for clustering显示文摘The K-means algorithm is one of the most popular techniques in clustering. Nevertheless, the performance of the Kmeans algorithm depends highly on initial cluster centers and converges to local minima. This paper proposes a hybrid evolutionary programming based clustering algorithm, called PSO-SA, by combining particle swarm optimization (PSO) and simulated annealing (SA). The basic idea is to search around the global solution by SA and to increase the information exchange among particles using a mutation operator to escape local optima. Three datasets, Iris, Wisconsin Breast Cancer, and Ripley's Glass, have been considered to show the effectiveness of the proposed clustering algorithm in providing optimal clusters. | 4 | Fabrication and characterization of Fe_3O_4@SiO_2@TiO_2@Ho nanostructures as a novel and highly efficient photocatalyst for degradation of organic pollution显示文摘In this work we synthesize a novel and highly efficient photocatalyst for degradation of methyl orange and rhodamine B. In addition, a new method for synthesis of Fe_3O_4@SiO_2@TiO_2@Ho magnetic core-shell nanoparticles with spherical morphology is proposed. The crystal structures, morphology and chemical properties of the as-synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), energy dispersive X-ray(EDS), X-ray diffraction(XRD), UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy(DRS) and vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM) techniques. The photocatalytic activity of Fe_3O_4@SiO_2@TiO_2@Ho was investigated by degradation of methyl orange(MO) as cationic dye and rhodamine B(Rh B) as anionic dye in aqueous solution under UV/vis irradiation. The results indicate that about 92.1% of Rh B and78.4% of MO were degraded after 120 and 150 min, respectively. These degradation results show that Fe_3O_4@SiO_2@TiO_2@Ho nanoparticles are better photocatalyst than Fe3O4@Si O2@TiO 2@Ho for degradation of MO and Rh B. | 5 | T2* magnetic resonance imaging of the liver in thalassemic patients in Iran显示文摘AIM: To investigate the accuracy of T2*-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI T2*) in the evaluation of iron overload in beta-thalassemia major patients. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 210 patients with beta-thalassemia major having regular blood transfusions were consecutively enrolled. Serum ferritin levels were measured, and all patients underwent MRI T2* of the liver. Liver biopsy was performed in 53 patients at an interval of no longer than 3 mo after the MRIT2* in each patient. The amount of iron was assessed in both MRI T2* and liver biopsy specimens of each patient. RESULTS: Patients’ ages ranged from 8 to 54 years with a mean of 24.59 ± 8.5 years. Mean serum ferritin level was 1906 ± 1644 ng/mL. Liver biopsy showed a moderate negative correlation with liver MRI T2* (r = -0.573, P = 0.000) and a low positive correlation with ferritin level (r = 0.350, P = 0.001). Serum ferritin levels showed a moderate negative correlation with liver MRI T2* values (r = -0.586, P = 0.000). | 7 | Expression of Acyl-lipid 12-desaturase Gene in Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells and Its Effect on Cold Stress Tolerance of Potato显示文摘We report the expression profile of acyl-lipid 12-desaturase (desA) gene from Synechocystis sp. PCC6803 and its effect on cell membrane lipid composition and cold tolerance in prokaryotic (Escherichia coli) and eukaryotic (Solanum tuberosum) cells. For this purpose, a hybrid of desA and reporter gene encoding thermostable lichenase (licBM3) was constructed and used to transform these cells. The expression of this hybrid gene was measured using qualitative (Petri dish test, electrophoregram and zymogram) and quantitative methods (spectrometry and gas liquid chromatography assays). The maximum level of linoleic acid in the bacterial cells containing hybrid gene was 1.9% of total fatty acids. Cold stress tolerance assays using plant damage index and growth parameters showed that cold tolerance was enhanced in primary transgenic lines because of increased unsaturated fatty acid concentration in their lipids. The greatest content of 18:2 and 18:3 fatty acids in primary transgenic plants was observed for lines 2 (73%) and 3 (41%). Finally, our results showed that desaturase could enhance tolerance to cold stress in potato, and desaturase and lichenase retain their functionality in the structure of the hybrid protein where the enzymatic activity of target gene product was higher than in the case of reporter lichenase gene absence in the construction. | Reza Maali Amiri Natalia O. | 12 | Optimal vector-valued intensity measure for seismic collapse assessment of structures显示文摘The present study is aimed to investigate the ability of different intensity measures(IMs), including response spectral acceleration at the fundamental period of the structure, S a(T1), as a common scalar IM and twelve vector-valued IMs for seismic collapse assessment of structures. The vector-valued IMs consist of two components, with S a(T1) as the first component and different parameters that are ratios of scalar IMs, as well as the spectral shape proxies εSa and N p, as the second component. After investigating the properties of an optimal IM, a new vector-valued IM that includes the ratio of S a(T1) to the displacement spectrum intensity(DSI) as the second component is proposed. The new IM is more efficient than other IMs for predicting the collapse capacity of structures. It is also sufficient with respect to magnitude, source-to-site distance, and scale factor for collapse capacity prediction of structures. To satisfy the predictability criterion, a ground motion prediction equation(GMPE) is determined for S a(T1)/DSI by using the existing GMPEs. Furthermore, an empirical equation is proposed for obtaining the correlation between the components of the proposed IM. | 13 | Accumulation of heavy metal in Platanus orientalis, Robinia pseudoacacia and Fraxinus rotundifolia显示文摘Plants are capable of reducing environmental pollutions through uptaking contaminants in their tissues. In the study site, twenty one-year-old leaves and shoots as well as twenty soil samples were sampled and analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP). We investigated the uptaking ability of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) by the leaves and shoots of Platanus orientalis, Robinia pseudoacacia and Fraxinus rotundifolia in Karaj city, the western Tehran, Iran. We also evaluated the total metal accumulation capacity by using metal accumulation index (MAI). Results indicated that there was no significant difference in uptaking contents of Cd and Pb in the leaves among the trees. However accumulation of Cd in shoots of F. rotundifolia and R. pseudoacacia was significantly higher than that of P. orientalis. The accumulation of Pb in shoots of R. pseudoacacia was significantly higher than the other species. The amount of Pb in the soil of the study area was significantly higher than Cd. Concentrations of Cd and Pb in leaves of the three species are in the ranges of 2.4 2.7 mg Kg-1 and 7.1 14.4 mg Kg-1 , respectively. | 14 | Stable dual-wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser using novel fabricated side-polished arc-shaped fiber with deposited ZnO nanoparticles显示文摘A dual-wavelength fiber laser operating at the 1550 nm region using a side-polished arc-shaped fiber with deposited ZnO nanoparticles is proposed and demonstrated. The arc-polished fiber is fabricated by using a simple but novel approach in which a silicon carbide paper polishes one side of a conventional single-mode fiber. An arc-polished fiber with a length of 2.25 mm and an insertion loss of 0.95 dB is obtained and deposited with ZnO nanoparticles by the drop-cast method. A stable dual-wavelength output is obtained at 1562.5 and 1563.4 nm at peak powers of-9.3 and-10.1 dBm, respectively, as well as a signal-to-noise ratio of 28.4 dB and a channel spacing of 0.9 nm. | 15 | Entire Catchment and Buffer Zone Approaches to Modeling Linkage Between River Water Quality and Land Cover——A Case Study of Yamaguchi Prefecture,Japan显示文摘This study investigated the linkages between river water quality and land use in river catchments in Yama- guchi Prefecture, the western Japan, in order to examine the effect of land use changes of both entire catchment and buffer zone on river water quality. Dissolved Oxygen (DO), pH, Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Suspended Solids (SS), Escherichia coli, Total Nitrogen (TN) and Total Phosphorus (TP) were considered as river water quality indica- tors. Satellite images were applied to generating the land use map. Multiple regression model was applied to linking the changes in the river water quality with the land uses in both entire catchment area and buffer zone. | 16 | Estimation of conservation value of myrtle(Myrtus communis)using a contingent valuation method:a case study in a Dooreh forest area,Lorestan Province,Iran显示文摘Background:Around 2000 plant species occur naturally in Lorestan Province of which 250 species are medicinal and myrtle is one of them.Myrtle is a shrub whose leaves and fruits have medicinal value and thus,if managed and harvested properly,could produce sustained economic benefits.In recent years,however,over half of the myrtle site areas was destroyed,due to inappropriate management and excessive harvesting practices.Thus,coming up with a practical harvesting approach along with identifying those factors damaging the sites,seems to be very crucial.Methods:In our investigation,we calculated the conservation value per hectare of myrtle in the Dooreh forest area in Lorestan Province.Using the Contingent Valuation(CV) and Double Bounded Dichotomous Choice(DBDC) methods,we determined the willingness to pay(WTP) for myrtle conservation.The WTP was estimated with a logit model for which indices were obtained based on a maximum precision criterion.Results:The results showed that 86.67 per cent of people were willing to pay for the conservation of these myrtle sites.Average monthly WTP per family was calculated as $0.79.The annual conservation value in terms of WTP for the preservation of the myrtle sites in Dooreh was estimated as $102,525.Among the variables of the model presented,education had a positive impact,while the amount proposed for payment and family size had a negative impact on the WTP.Conclusions:Our estimate of the value of myrtle conservation should provide justification for policy makers and decision making bodies of natural resources to implement policies in order to conserve the natural sites of this species more effectively. | Neda Amiri Seyed F.Emadian Asghar Fallah Kamran Adeli Hamid Amirnejad | 2016 | Forest Ecosystems2016,3,1: | 3 |
| 17 | An ensemble method for data stream classification in the presence of concept drift显示文摘One recent area of interest in computer science is data stream management and processing. By ‘data stream', we refer to continuous and rapidly generated packages of data. Specific features of data streams are immense volume, high production rate, limited data processing time, and data concept drift; these features differentiate the data stream from standard types of data. An issue for the data stream is classification of input data. A novel ensemble classifier is proposed in this paper. The classifier uses base classifiers of two weighting functions under different data input conditions. In addition, a new method is used to determine drift, which emphasizes the precision of the algorithm. Another characteristic of the proposed method is removal of different numbers of the base classifiers based on their quality. Implementation of a weighting mechanism to the base classifiers at the decision-making stage is another advantage of the algorithm. This facilitates adaptability when drifts take place, which leads to classifiers with higher efficiency. Furthermore, the proposed method is tested on a set of standard data and the results confirm higher accuracy compared to available ensemble classifiers and single classifiers. | 19 | Gluten sensitive enteropathy in patients with iron deficiency anemia of unknown origin显示文摘AIM: To determine the prevalence of gluten sensitive enteropathy (GSE) in a large group of patients with iron deficiency anemia (IDA) of obscure origin. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, patients with IDA of obscure origin were screened for GSE. Anti- endomysial antibody (EMA) and tissue transglutamin- ase antibody (tTG) levels were evaluated and duodenal biopsies were taken and scored according to the Marsh classification. The diagnosis of GSE was based on a positive serological test and abnormal duodenal histol- ogy. Gluten free diet (GFD) was advised for all the GSE patients. RESULTS: Of the 4120 IDA patients referred to our Hematology departments, 206 (95 male) patients were found to have IDA of obscure origin. Thirty out of 206 patients (14.6%) had GSE. The mean age of GSE pa- tients was 34.6 ± 17.03 (range 10-72 years). The female to male ratio was 1.3:1. Sixteen patients had Marsh 3,12 had Marsh 2, and 2 had Marsh 1 lesions. The sever- ity of anemia was in parallel with the severity of duode- nal lesions. Twenty-two GSE patients (73.3%) had no gastrointestinal symptoms. Fourteen GSE patients who adhered to GFD without receiving iron supplementation agreed to undergo follow up visits. After 6 mo of GFD, their mean hemoglobin levels (Hb) increased from 9.9 ± 1.6 to 12.8 ± 1.0 g/dL (P < 0.01). Interestingly, in 6 out of 14 patients who had Marsh 1/2 lesions (e.g. no villous atrophy) on duodenal biopsy, mean Hb increased from 11.0 ± 1.1 to 13.1 ± 1.0 g/dL (P < 0.01) while they did not receive any iron supplementation. CONCLUSION: There is a high prevalence (e.g. 14.6%) of GSE in patients with IDA of obscure origin.
