Corrosion Protection of Electro-Galvanized Steel by Green Conversion Coatings显示文摘A cerium-based chemical conversion process was studied. First, zinc coating obtained from a free-cyanide alkaline bath, with derivative of imidazol with new brightener, was investigated, zinc-plated steel specimens were treated with a solution of 50 mmol·L-1 Ce(NO3)3. The corrosion behavior of bare and treated mild galvanized steel was evaluated during exposure to 0.5 mol·L-1 NaCl for different immersion time, using Tafel polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The surface morphology of the coating was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The composition and chemical percent of the coating were examined by X-ray dispersion energy (EDAX). The results of these measurements showed that the newly developed cerium-based conversion coating process was a promising candidate for replaciog the conventional chromate treatments used at present for galvanized steel. | Mirghasem Hosseini Habib Ashassi-Sorkhabi Heshmat Allah Yaghobkhani Ghiasvand | 2007 | Journal of Rare Earths2007,25,5: | 29
Purification, application and current market trend of natural graphite:A review显示文摘Graphite has a stacked planar sp2-hybridized C6 ring structure, displaying a polymorphism with rhombohedral, hexagonal, and turbostratic.Based on its structure-property relationship,it affords a variety of technologically innovative applications or performances in industries, such as lithium-ion batteries, fuel cells, two dimensional graphene, water purification, electronics, fiber optics, spintronics, refractories, electrical products, electric vehicles, etc. The monetary value of graphite depends largely on carbon content and flake size. However, the physical separation of graphite from its ore body is known to be very expensive, energy intensive and time-consuming.Hence,this study extensively describes a current purification method for producing high-quality graphite material with impurities reaching about 10–100 mg/kg,attracting a lot of end users. It also describes the potential applications of graphite materials and identifies the future scope of a new market, depending on material purity. Finally, the current and future graphite-mining countries are investigated in details. | Allah D.Jara Amha Betemariam Girma Woldetinsae Jung Yong Kim | 2019 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2019,29,5: | 17
Trends and outcomes of pancreaticoduodenectomy for periampullary tumors: A 25-year single-center study of 1000 consecutive cases显示文摘AIM To evaluate the evolution, trends in surgical approaches a n d r e c o n s t r u c t i o n t e c h n i q u e s, a n d i m p o r t a n t lessons learned from performing 1000 consecutive pancreaticoduodenectomies(PDs) for periampullary tumors.METHODS This is a retrospective review of the data of all patients who underwent PD for periampullary tumor during the period from January 1993 to April 2017. The data were categorized into three periods, including early period(1993-2002), middle period(2003-2012), and late period(2013-2017).RESULTS The frequency showed PD was increasingly performed after the year 2000. With time, elderly, cirrhotic and obese patients, as well as patients with uncinate process carcinoma and borderline tumor were increasingly selected for PD. The median operative time and postoperative hospital stay decreased significantly over the periods. Hospital mortality declined significantly, from 6.6% to 3.1%. Postoperative complications significantly decreased, from 40% to 27.9%. There was significant decrease in postoperative pancreatic fistula in the second 10 years, from 15% to 12.7%. There was a significant improvement in median survival and overall survival among the periods.CONCLUSION Surgical results of PD significantly improved, with mortality rate nearly reaching 3%. Pancreatic reconstruction following PD is still debatable. The survival rate was also improved but the rate of recurrence is still high, at 36.9%. | ayman el nakeeb waleed askar ehab atef ehab el hanafy ahmad m sultan tarek salah ahmed shehta mohamed el sorogy emad hamdy mohamed el hemly ahmed a el-geidi tharwat kandil mohamed el shobari talaat abd allah amgad fouad mostafa abu zeid ahmed abu el eneen nabil gad el-hak gamal el ebidy omar fathy ahmed sultan mohamed abdel wahab | 2017 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,38: | 15
Mineralogical and petrographic analysis on the flake graphite ore from Saba Boru area in Ethiopia显示文摘The mineralogy and petrography of natural graphite in Saba Boru of Ethiopia indicate that there exists flake graphite with a slightly oval structured fine size according to our study on thin and polished sections.Herein, for estimating the carbon content in graphite, the ASTM-C561,the test method for ash in a graphite sample, was used. For characterizing graphite,x-ray diffraction,x-ray fluorescence, inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy were also used.Chemical analysis of ore samples determined that the average compositions are 63.35%SiO2,15.45%Al2O3,2.36%Fe2O3,2.07%K2O,less than1%others,and loss-on-ignition(LOI)in the range of^4.74%–37.42%.The total carbon content of graphitic ore ranged from 4.11%to 33.14%.Importantly,when graphite is concentrated through floatation, its average purity and recovery are 92.97%and 90.82%,respectively.Furthermore,once the graphite concentrates are treated with hydrofluoric acid, the average value attains a high grade of 96.48%C.Moreover,the average ash content is 81.93%(pre-flotation)and 3.1%(post-flotation),respectively.Finally,after beneficiation,a silica is identified as a major gangue(85.88%),usable as a raw material for other purposes such as cement.Hence, these graphite-bearing rocks seem to be worth exploring for commercialization opportunities. | Allah D.Jara Girma Woldetinsae Amha Betemariam Jung Yong Kim | 2020 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2020,30,5: | 12
Somatic embryogenesis in wild relatives of cotton (Gossypium Spp.)显示文摘Wild cotton species can contribute a valuable gene pool for agronomically desirable cultivated tetraploid cultivars. In order to exploit diploid cotton a regeneration system is required to achieve transformation based goals. The present studies aimed at optimizing the conditions for regeneration of local varieties as well as wild species of cotton. Different callus induction media were tested with varying concentrations of hormones in which sucrose was used as nutritional source. Different explants (hypo-cotyls, cotyledon, root) were used to check the regeneration of both local cotton plants and wild relatives using T & G medium, BAP medium, CIM medium, EMMS medium, and cell suspension medium. Different stages of embryogenicity such as early torpedo stage, late torpedo stage, heart stage, globular stage and cotyledonary stage were observed in wild relatives of cotton. The results of this study pave the way for establishing future transformation methods. | RAO Abdul Qayyum HUSSAIN S. Sarfraz SHAHZAD M. Saqib BOKHARI S. Yassir Abbas RAZA M. | 8 | Effects of medicinal plants on Alzheimer's disease and memory deficits显示文摘Alzheimer's disease is an age-related neurodegenerative disorder characterized by memory deficits. Various studies have been carried out to find therapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's disease. However, the proper treatment option is still not available. There is no cure for Alzheimer's disease, but symptomatic treatment may improve the memory and other dementia related problems. Traditional medicine is practiced worldwide as memory enhancer since ancient times. Natural therapy including herbs and medicinal plants has been used in the treatment of memory deficits such as dementia, amnesia, as well as Alzheimer's disease since a long time. Medicinal plants have been used in different systems of medicine, particularly Unani system of medicines and exhibited their powerful roles in the management and cure of memory disorders. Most of herbs and plants have been chemically evaluated and their efficacy has also been proven in clinical trials. However, the underlying mechanisms of actions are still on the way. In this paper, we have reviewed the role of different medicinal plants that play an important role in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and memory deficits using conventional herbal therapy. | Muhammad Akram Allah Nawaz | 2017 | Neural Regeneration Research2017,12,4: | 7
Expression levels ofβcatenin and galectin-3 in meningioma and their effect on brain invasion and recurrence:a tissue microarray study显示文摘Objective:Meningiomas are neoplasms that arise from the meninges of the central nervous system(CNS).They constitute about25.6%of CNS tumors diagnosed in Egypt. Some morphological variants of meningiomas display aggressive behavior, leading to brain-invasive growth pattern.Although meningiomas are usually treated by complete surgical excision, the risk of postoperative recurrence remains.Hence, additional biomarkers for predicting aggressive behavior must be discovered. This study aims to explore the clinical and biological relevance of the protein expression levels ofβ-catenin and galectine-3 in meningioma and to understand the pathobiology of this neoplasm. Methods:This retrospective study was carried out on 153 cases of meningioma by using tissue microarrays and immunohistochemistry forβ-catenin and galectine-3.Results:Highβ-catenin expression was significantly associated with transitional and meningiotheliomatous meningiomas, low tumor grade, low recurrence rate, and low incidence of brain invasion.Meanwhile, high galectin-3 expression was associated with brain invasion, recurrence, high tumor grade, and tumor type.Logistic regression analysis indicated that among all variables included in the model,β-catenin and galactin-3 expression levels were significant predictors of tumor recurrence(P<0.001).Conclusions:Galectin-3 andβ-catenin are involved in meningioma recurrence but not in brain invasion. These molecules could be important potential therapeutic targets and predictors for meningiomas. | Rehab Allah Ahmed Abdelhadi M Shebl Hany Onsy Habashy | 2017 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2017,14,3: | 4
Difference between papillary and follicular thyroid carcinoma outcomes:an experience from Egyptian institution显示文摘Objective: Differentiated thyroid carcinomas(DTCs) are classified into papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC) and follicular thyroid carcinoma(FTC). DTCs are analyzed as a single group in clinical studies that investigated the prognostic factors and prognosis of these malignancies. However, the biological behaviors of these carcinomas significantly differ. In the present study, we aimed to detect differences in the outcomes between PTC and FTC in Mansoura University Hospital in Egypt. Methods: A total of 558 patients with histologically proven thyroid carcinomas from January 2003 to December 2012 were retrospectively enrolled. The clinical and pathological data of patients were reviewed. Results: Large primary tumor size, lymph node involvement, extrathyroid extension, and distant metastasis were significant poor prognostic factors for overall survival(OS) in old PTC patients. Cox hazard analysis showed that the patient's age, extra thyroid extension, and distant metastasis were the only independent prognostic factors. In FTC patients, only the distant metastasis and degree of tumor invasion were significant poor prognostic factors in OS univariate analysis. However, these factors were nonsignificant in multivariate analysis. The 10-year OS rates were 97% and 89% for PTC and FTC, respectively(P=0.003). The 10-year disease-free survival(DFS) rates were 77.2% in PTC vs. 65% in FTC(P=0.179). Conclusion: The significant prognostic factors vary between the two types of DTCs. Therefore, PTC and FTC patients need to be analyzed and reported independently. PTC survival is widely and significantly affected by age, extrathyroid extension, and distant metastasis. By contrast, these factors were nonsignificant in FTC, which showed poorer survival than PTC. | Engy M.Aboelnaga Rehab Allah Ahmed | 2015 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2015,12,1: | 4
Mesenchymal stem cell therapy in patients with small bowel transplantation:Single center experience显示文摘AIM:To study the effects of mesenchymal stem cell(MSC) therapy on the prevention of acute rejection and graft vs host disease following small bowel transplantation.METHODS: In our transplantation center, 6 isolated intestinal transplants have been performed with MSC therapy since 2009. The primary reasons for transplants were short gut syndrome caused by surgical intestine resection for superior mesenteric artery thrombosis(n = 4), Crohn's disease(n = 1) and intestinal aganglionosis(n = 1). Two of the patients were children. At the time of reperfusion, the first dose of MSCs cultured from the patient's bone marrow was passedinto the transplanted intestinal artery at a dose of 1000000 cells/kg. The second and third doses of MSCs were given directly into the mesenteric artery through the arterial anastomosis using an angiography catheter on day 15 and 30 post-transplant.RESULTS: The median follow-up for these patients was 10.6 mo(min: 2 mo-max: 30 mo). Three of the patients developed severe acute rejection. One of these patients did not respond to bolus steroid therapy. Although the other two patients did respond to antirejection treatment, they developed severe fungal and bacterial infections. All of these patients died in the 2nd and 3rd months post-transplant due to sepsis. The remaining patients who did not have acute rejection had good quality of life with no complications observed during the follow-up period. In addition, their intestinal grafts were functioning properly in the 13th, 25th and 30th month post-transplant. The patients who survived did not encounter any problems related to MSC transplantation.CONCLUSION: Although this is a small case series and not a randomized study, it is our opinion that small bowel transplantation is an effective treatment for intestinal failure, and MSC therapy may help to prevent acute rejection and graft vs host disease following intestinal transplantation. | Sait Murat Do?an Sel?uk K?l?n? | 12 | Isolation and characterization of marine-derived actinomycetes with cytotoxic activity from the Red Sea coast显示文摘Objective: To isolate and evaluate the cytotoxic activity of different actinomycetes species isolated from the Red Sea coast in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Methods: Forty actinomycetes strains were isolated from different sediments and seawater samples collected from the Red Sea coast in Egypt. Actinomycetes were recognized by morphological and microscopic examinations. Cell viability and cytotoxicity induced by the crude extracts on breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 were assessed using methylene blue assay. The strains with promising cytotoxic activity were identified by sequencing and amplifying the 16 S r RNA genes. The antibacterial activities of the crude extracts were performed using Kirby–Bauer disc diffusion method. Results: The results indicated that five ethyl acetate extracts exhibited cytotoxicity towards breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231. The highest cytotoxic activity was found for the ethyl acetate extracts of EGY2 and EGY39. The isolate EGY3 was identified as a new Streptomyces species, while the actinomycete EGY22 was found to be a member of the genus Nocardiopsis sp. The crude extract of the isolate EGY8 showed slightly high antimicrobial activity against different test microorganisms. Conclusions: The results of the present study reveal that marine sediments of the Red Sea are a potent source of novel species of actinomycetes. The isolates may be useful in discovery of novel bioactive compounds and an important step in the development of microbial natural product research. | Mohamed Saleh Abdelfattah Mohammed Ismail Youssef Elmallah Usama Wahid Hawas Lamia Taha Abou El-Kassema Mennat Allah Gamal Eid | 2016 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2016,6,8: | 3
Optimal searching for a Helix target motion显示文摘This paper discusses a search problem for a Helix target motion in which any information of the target position is not available to the searchers. There exist three searchers start searching for the target from the origin. The purpose of this paper is to formulate a search model and finds the conditions under which the expected value of the first meeting time between one of the searchers and the target is finite. Also, the existence of the optimal search plan that minimizes the expected value of the first meeting time is shown. Furthermore, this optimal search plan is found. The effectiveness of this method is illustrated by using an example with numerical results. | MOHAMED Abd Allah El-Hadidy | 2015 | Science China Mathematics2015,58,4: | 2

子宫颈抹片检查常规筛查宫颈组织、癌前病变或癌变在发展中国家门诊中的运用(英文)显示文摘Objective: Papanicolou (Pap) smear screening has dramatically reduced the incidence of invasive cervical cancer worldwide. Pap smear screening is still not widely available in developing countries and therefore cannot be used as mass screening tool. This study was designed to establish the role of Pap smear as a routine investigation for females presented to gynecological department. Methods: It was a hospital based study. Patients attending with complaints including irregular vaginal bleeding, vagina discharge, dyspareunia, low backache or lower abdominal pain and primary or secondary infertility were included in the study. All these patients underwent pap smear. Results: Age of females was 25 to 60 years. Ninety females had dysplasia. Mild to moderate dysplasia was positive in 84 females. Six patients had severe dysplasia suspicious for squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) which was confirmed as invasive SCC on biopsy. All patients with mild to moderate dysplasia were regularly followed at 4 to 6 months. Thirty patients were lost during follow up. Forty had negative smear at 6 months, while fourteen having persistent dysplasia on repeated pap smears were referred for biopsies. Histopathology confirmed invasive SCC in five patients while chronic cervicitis was reported in nine patients. Only two of screened patients with high suspicion for cancer showed false negative results. Directed biopsies done in these confirmed invasive SCC. Conclusion: Pap smear is a useful, simple, non-invasive and reliable screening tool for cervical cancer. It may be practiced as a routine investigation in outpatients in developing countries, where mass screening is not available. | Rubina Mukhtar Maham Munir Allah Rakha Abdul Mateen Rab Nawaz Maken Muhammad Arif | 2011 | The Chinese-German Journal of Clinical Oncology2011,10,10: | 1
