| 1 | An adaptive finite element procedure for crack propagation analysis显示文摘This paper presents the adaptive mesh finite element estimation method for analyzing 2D linear elastic fracture problems. The mesh is generated by the advancing front method and the norm stress error is taken as a posteriori error estimator for the h-type adaptive refinement. The stress intensity factors are estimated by a displacement extrapolation technique. The near crack tip displacements used are obtained from specific nodes of natural six-noded quarter-point elements which are generated around the crack tip defined by the user. The crack growth and its direction are determined by the calculated stress intensity factors. The maximum circumference theory is used for the latter. In evaluating the accuracy of the estimated stress intensity factors, four cases are tested consisting of compact tension specimen, three-point bending specimen, central cracked plate and double edge notched plate. | 2 | Finite element simulation of stress intensity factors in elastic-plastic crack growth显示文摘A finite element program developed elastic-plastic crack propagation simulation using Fortran language. At each propagation step, the adaptive mesh is automatically refined based on a posteriori h-type refinement using norm stress error estimator. A rosette of quarter-point elements is then constructed around the crack tip to facilitate the prediction of crack growth based on the maximum normal stress criterion and to calculate stress intensity factors under plane stress and plane strain conditions. Crack was modelled to propagate through the inter-element in the mesh. | 4 | Finite element model for linear-elastic mixed mode loading using adaptive mesh strategy显示文摘An adaptive mesh finite element model has been developed to predict the crack propagation direction as well as to calculate the stress intensity factors (SIFs), under linear-elastic assumption for mixed mode loading application. The finite element mesh is generated using the advancing front method. In order to suit the requirements of the fracture analysis, the generation of the background mesh and the construction of singular elements have been added to the developed program. The adaptive remeshing process is carried out based on the posteriori stress error norm scheme to obtain an optimal mesh. Previous works of the authors have proposed techniques for adaptive mesh generation of 2D cracked models. Facilitated by the singular elements, the dis- placement extrapolation technique is employed to calculate the SIF. The fracture is modeled by the splitting node approach and the trajectory follows the successive linear extensions of each crack increment. | 7 | Improved Tolerance of Three Saudi Pearl Millet Cultivars (Pennisetum spicatum) to Salt Stress by Mycorrhiza显示文摘Seeds of three Saudi pearl millet cultivars(Pennisetum spicatum)from three regions(Madinah,Khulais and Jaizan)were inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Glomus mosseae obtained from the Agriculture Research Center of Giza,Egypt to enhance their salt tolerance.Five different NaCl concentrations(0,30,60,90,and 120 mM)were used for treating cultivars with and without mycorrhiza.Growth rates,chlorophyll content,chlorophyll fluorescence(Fv/Fm),proline content and gas exchange were measured to determine the effect of salinity on these cultivars.The results indicated that compared to cultivars without mycorrhiza,all cultivars with mycorrhiza had enhanced growth and physiological parameters including shoot and root length,area and number of leaves,fresh and dry weights of shoots and roots,chlorophyll contents and gas exchanges at 0 and 30 mM of salinity.In addition,the measurements of the different growth rates showed higher growth performance of the cultivars from Madinah and Khulais than the cultivar from Jaizan.However,all cultivars with and without mycorrhiza showed significant reductions in growth rates,chlorophyll contents and gas exchanges at a salinity of 60 mM than those grown at 0 and 30 mM.Moreover,the values of Fv/Fm were significantly reduced in all cultivars with and without mycorrhiza grown at 60 mM than in those grown at 0 mM and 30 mM.Proline contents indicated a progressive increase with the elevation of NaCl concentration stress.The proline contents in the mycorrhiza-inoculated cultivars were significantly higher than those in the non-inoculated cultivars.On the other hand,all cultivars with and without mycorrhiza underwent senescence within four weeks of growth at salinity concentrations of 90 mM and 120 mM.Therefore,relatively low salinity must be maintained to achieve high growth rates and gas exchanges of these inoculated cultivars. | Abdulkhaliq Alshoaibi | 2021 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2021,90,3: | 1 |
| 8 | Estimation of Growth and Photosynthetic Performance of Two C_(4) Species(Pennisetum spicatum(L.)Körn.and Zea mays L.)under a Low Temperature Treatment显示文摘Pearl millet(Pennisetum spicatum(L.)Körn.)and maize(Zea mays L.)are C_(4)grass species grown for feeding humans and animals in Almadinah Almunawwarah,which is in the western part of Saudi Arabia.During the winter,the mean temperature,which drops to 14℃,represents a major problem for the growth of these species in this region.Therefore,the objectives of this research were to investigate the growth response and the photosynthetic performance of P.spicatum and Z.mays under a low temperature stress.The treatments involved daytime and nighttime temperatures of 14/12℃(low temperature)and 24/22℃(optimum temperature).The results indicated that low temperature significantly reduced all growth and physiological parameters,including seed germination,leaf expansion,leaf area,shoot length and root length of the two species compared to those of the control.Additionally,the low temperature significantly decreased the light-saturated assimilation rate(A_(sat)),quantum yield(ϕ),saturated rate of carbon dioxide uptake(A_(max))and efficiency of carboxylation on both species compared to those of the control.Moreover,the values of F_(v)/F_(m)and the chlorophyll contents of both species were significantly reduced by low temperature compared to those of the control.It can be concluded that both species had little tolerance to low temperatures. | Abdulkhaliq Alshoaibi | 2022 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2022,91,1: | 0 |
| 9 | Probabilistic analysis of linear elastic cracked structures显示文摘This paper presents a probabilistic methodology for linear fracture mechanics analysis of cracked structures. The main focus is on probabilistic aspect related to the nature of crack in material. The methodology involves finite element analysis; sta- tistical models for uncertainty in material properties, crack size, fracture toughness and loads; and standard reliability methods for evaluating probabilistic characteristics of linear elastic fracture parameter. The uncertainty in the crack size can have a significant effect on the probability of failure, particularly when the crack size has a large coefficient of variation. Numerical example is presented to show that probabilistic methodology based on Monte Carlo simulation provides accurate estimates of failure prob- ability for use in linear elastic fracture mechanics. | AKRAMIN M.R.M.
