1Research progress and development trends of highway tunnels in China显示文摘The highway tunnel system in China has in recent years surpassed Europe,the United States,and other developed countries in terms of mileage,scale,complexity,and technical achievement.Much scientific research has been conducted,and the results have greatly facilitated the rapid development of China's highway tunnel building capacity.This article presents the historical development of highway tunneling in China,according to specific characteristics based on construction and operation.It provides a systematic analysis of the major achievements and challenges with respect to construction techniques,operation,monitoring,repair,and maintenance.Together with future trends of highway tunneling in China,suggestions have been made for further research,and development prospects have been identified with the aim of laying the foundation for a Chinese-style highway tunnel construction method and technical architecture.Chuan He Bo Wang 2013Journal of Modern Transportation2013,21,4:64
2Caltrans use of scrap tires in asphalt rubber products:a comprehensive review显示文摘The California Department of Transportation(Caltrans) has been using scrap tire rubber in asphalt pavements since the 1970 s in chip seals and the 1980 s in rubberized hot mix asphalt(RHMA).Both the wet(field blend) and dry processes were used in early trials.Caltrans has also used rubber modified binders containing both crumb rubber modifier and polymer modifier that could be manufactured at a refinery facility,a terminal blend wet process.Since the beginning of this century,Caltrans increased the use of scrap tire rubber in paving projects and invested considerable resources in developing technically sound,cost effective,and environmentally friendly strategies for using scrap tire rubber in roadway applications.By the end of year 2010,approximately 31%of all hot mix asphalt(HMA) placed by Caltrans was rubberized HMA,roughly 1.2 million tons.Caltrans efforts in using asphalt rubber products were also demonstrated in its research and technology development.These included the construction of two full-scale field experiments,five warranty projects,and an accelerated pavement study using a heavy vehicle simulator.Additionally,terminal blend asphalt rubber and rubberized warm mix asphalts began to be experimented on trial basis.This paper provides a comprehensive review of Caltrans experience over four decades with asphalt rubber products.Current practices and future outlook are also discussed.Haiping Zhou Sri Holikatti Peter Vacura 2014Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2014,1,1:32
3An improved algorithm for fluid-structure interaction of high-speed trains under crosswind显示文摘Based on the train-track coupling dynamics and high-speed train aerodynamics,this paper deals with an improved algorithm for fluid-structure interaction of high-speed trains.In the algorithm,the data communication between fluid solver and structure solver is avoided by inserting the program of train-track coupling dynamics into fluid dynamics program,and the relaxation factor concerning the load boundary of the fluid-structure interface is introduced to improve the fluctuation and convergence of aerodynamic forces.With this method,the fluid-structure dynamics of a highspeed train are simulated under the condition that the velocity of crosswind is 13.8 m/s and the train speed is 350 km/h.When the relaxation factor equals 0.5,the fluctuation of aerodynamic forces is lower and its convergence is faster than in other cases.The side force and lateral displacement of the head train are compared between off-line simulation and co-simulation.Simulation results show that the fluid-structure interaction has a significant influence on the aerodynamics and attitude of the head train under crosswind conditions.In addition,the security indexes of the head train worsen after the fluid-structure interaction calculation.Therefore,the fluid-structure interaction calculation is necessary for high-speed trains.Tian LI Jiye ZHANG Weihua ZHANG 2011Journal of Modern Transportation2011,19,2:29

6Behavior of composite rigid frame bridge under bi-directional seismic excitations显示文摘Pushover analysis and time history analysis are conducted to explore the bi-directional seismic behavior of composite steel-concrete rigid frame bridge,which is composed of RC piers and steel-concrete composite girders.Both longitudinal and transverse directions excitations are investigated using OpenSees.Firstly,the applicability of pushover analysis based on the fundamental mode is discussed.Secondly,an improved pushover analysis method considering the contribution of higher modes is proposed,and the applicability on composite rigid frame bridges under bi-directional earthquake is verified.Based on this method,an approach to predict the displacement responses of composite rigid frame bridge under random bi-directional seismic excitations by revising the elasto-plastic demand curve is also proposed.It is observed that the developed method yield a good estimate on the responses of composite rigid frame bridges under bi-directional seismic excitations.Xiaogang Liu Jiansheng Fan Jianguo Nie Guo Li 2014Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2014,1,1:22
7Numerical simulation and analysis of aerodynamic drag on a subsonic train in evacuated tube transportation显示文摘The aerodynamic drag on a train running in an evacuated tube varies with tube air pressure,train speed and shape,as well as blockage ratio.This paper uses numerical simulations to study the effects of different factors on the aerodynamic drag of a train running at subsonic speed in an evacuated tube.Firstly,we present the assumption of a steady state,two dimensional,incompressible viscous flow with lubricity wall conditions.Subsequently,based on the Navier-Stokes equation and the k-ε turbulent models,we calculate the aerodynamic drag imposed on the column train with a 3-meter diameter running under different pressure and blockage ratio conditions in an evacuated tube transportation (ETT) system.The simulation is performed with FLUENT 6.3 software package.An analyses of the simulation results suggest that the blockage ratio for ETT should be in the range of 0.25-0.7,and the tube internal diameter in the range of 2-4 m,with the feasible vacuum pressure in the range of 1-10 000 Pa for the future subsonic ETT trains.Yaoping ZHANG 2012Journal of Modern Transportation2012,20,1:18

9Laboratory investigation on the properties of asphalt mixtures modified with double-adding admixtures and sensitivity analysis显示文摘In order to improve the high temperature stability and low temperature cracking resistance of asphalt mixtures,two varieties of admixtures(anti-rutting agent and lignin fiber) were selected and then combined.This is called double-mixture technology.A series of tests about pavement performance of base asphalt mixtures and asphalt mixtures with admixture of anti-rutting agent or lignin fiber were conducted.Meanwhile sensitivity analyses were used to study the influence of three factors(i.e.,asphalt grade,aggregate type and gradation) on the high and low temperature performance and water stability of said asphalt mixtures.Test results indicated that the dynamic stability,residual stability,TSR and low temperature failure strain of asphalt mixtures have increased significantly with the additions of 0.40% anti-rutting agent and 0.36% lignin fiber.These results show that the high and low temperature and water stabilities of asphalt mixtures improve obviously.This supports the beneficial comprehensive effect of the double admixture.The problem of improving the asphalt mixtures performance with a single admixture is solved,in addition to also improving other pavement performance.Based on the sensitivity analysis,the most influential factors of dynamic stability,low temperature failure strain and TSR are the gradation,followed by asphalt grade and aggregate type.Zhen Fu Yanni Dang Bo Guo Yue Huang 2016Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2016,3,5:17

13Temperature action and effect of concrete-filled steel tubular bridges:A review显示文摘Concrete-filled steel tube(CFST)has been widely applied in bridges due to its excellent structural and constructional performance.In CFST bridges,temperature action is not only an important but also a special load that must be considered in bridge design,construction and structural evaluation.This paper presents an overview on current researches of the temperature action and effect of CFST bridges.The historical and spatial characteristics as well as corresponding influencing factors of temperature distributions are summarized,and classifications of temperature actions are also reviewed.Results show that in-depth investigations of the contributions of temperature influencing factors can help to effectively reduce the adverse temperature effects on CFST bridges in the design stage.Due to the lack of long-term measurements and insufficient use of historical meteorological data,research on the representative value along with correlation analysis of CFST temperature actions and meteorological parameters have to be further carried out.In the meanwhile,a decomposition method of temperature distribution is proposed based on structural effects of CFST bridges in this paper.The decomposed temperature actions can be used for more accurate effect calculation than traditional temperature action classification method,especially for CFST truss bridges.At last,specific temperature action patterns still need to be investigated in some of the special problems,such as longitudinal temperature differences along the CFST arch rib and thermal debonding in the CFST interface.Further investigations are required on the accurate simulation of temperature distribution of CFST bridges considering the shading effects of components and terrain.Jiang Liu Yongjian Liu Chenyu Zhang Qiuhong Zhao Yi Lyu Lei Jiang 2020Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2020,7,2:15
14Analysis of vibration reduction characteristics and applicability of steel-spring floating-slab track显示文摘A coupled dynamics computation model for metro vehicles,along with a steel-spring floating-slab track,is developed based on the theory of vehicle-track coupled dynamics.Using the developed model,the influences of the thickness,length and mass of floating-slab,spring rate and its arrangement space,running speed,etc.on the time and frequency domain characteristics of steel-spring fulcrum force are analyzed.The applicability of steel-spring floating-slab track is discussed through two integrated example cases of metro and buildings possessing distinct natural vibra-tion characteristics.It is concluded that,it is quite significant,in the optimization modular design of the parameters of steel-spring floating-slab track,to take the matching relationship of both the amplitude-frequency characteristics of steel-spring fulcrum force and natural vibration characteristics of integrated structures into comprehensive considera-tion.In this way the expensive steel-spring floating-slab track can be economically and efficiently utilized according to the site condition,and at the same time,the economic losses and bad social impact resulted from the resonance during usage of steel-spring floating-slab track can be avoided.Wanming ZHAI Peng XU Kai WEI 2011Journal of Modern Transportation2011,19,4:14
15Autonomous vehicles: challenges, opportunities, and future implications for transportation policies显示文摘This study investigates the challenges and opportunities pertaining to transportation policies that may arise as a result of emerging autonomous vehicle(AV)technologies. AV technologies can decrease the transportation cost and increase accessibility to low-income households and persons with mobility issues. This emerging technology also has far-reaching applications and implications beyond all current expectations. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the relevant literature and explores a broad spectrum of issues from safety to machine ethics. An indispensable part of a prospective AV development is communication over cars and infrastructure(connected vehicles). A major knowledge gap exists in AVtechnology with respect to routing behaviors. Connectedvehicle technology provides a great opportunity to implement an efficient and intelligent routing system. To this end, we propose a conceptual navigation model based on a fleet of AVs that are centrally dispatched over a network seeking system optimization. 19Evaluation of pedestrian mid-block road crossing behaviour using artificial neural network显示文摘Pedestrians usually cross the road at mid-block locations in India because of the ease and convenience to reach their destination as compared to intersection locations.It is important to evaluate the pedestrian gap acceptance behavior at mid-block locations because of inadequate vehicular gaps under mixed traffic condition,which translates into the pedestrian road crossing behavior.The present study examines the pedestrian gap acceptance behaviour by employing an artificial neural network(ANN) model for understanding the decision making process of pedestrians,i.e.,acceptance or rejection of vehicular gaps at a mid-block location.From the results it has been found that the pedestrian rolling gap,frequency of attempt,vehicular gap size,pedestrian speed change condition and vehicle speed have major role in pedestrian gap acceptance.These results can lead to a better design of pedestrian crossing facilities where adequate gaps are not available in vehicular flow at mid-block crosswalk locations.B Raghuram Kadali Nivedan Rathi Vedagiri Perumal 2014Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2014,1,2:13
