The outlook of blockchain technology for construction engineering management显示文摘Current construction engineering management suffers numerous challenges in terms of the trust, information sharing, and process automation. Blockchain which is a decentralised transaction and data management technology, has attracted increasing interests from both academic and industrial aspects since 2008. However, most of the existing research and practices are focused on the blockchain itself(i.e. technical challenges and limitations) or its applications in the finance service sector(i.e.Bitcoin). This paper aims to investigate the potential of applying blockchain technology in the construction sector.Three types of blockchain-enabled applications are proposed to improve the current processes of contract management, supply chain management, and equipment leasing, respectively. Challenges of blockchain implementation are also discussed in this paper.Jun WANG Peng WU Xiangyu WANG Wenchi SHOU 2017Frontiers of Engineering Management2017,4,1:20
Smart construction site in mega construction projects: A case study on island tunneling project of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge显示文摘The construction sites of mega construction projects(MCP) often have numerous participants with interfacing work within a highly complex system. It is critical how to realize collaborative work and information sharing among such participants. The information and communication technologies(ICTs) provides a technical guarantee for solving this problem. Existing research has been achieved the partial processes digitization of construction site, but certain problems still exist: 1)information perception of the construction site is passive.2) common collaboration and coordination problems in the construction industry have not been addressed. The emerging trends of ICTs have resulted in the integration of various computer technologies such as CPS, BIM, big data, and cloud computing into construction process, which would changes behavioral and management mode of construction sites. These new ICTs have been applied successfully in MCP, in particular, Hong Kong-ZhuhaiMacao Bridge project. A new management mode of construction sites is inspired by these case. In this paper, a new management mode of construction site for MCP has been proposed, namely, smart construction site. The ultimate goal of smart construction site is to accomplish safe, efficient and high-quality construction. This study put forward the conceptual framework for smart construction site, and have identified three key elements of smart construction site, including information support platform, collaboration work, and intelligent construction management. A case study on Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project work as an evidence to support the practicability of the proposed mode. Significant contributions of this study is to propose a new management mode for MCP in construction industry, which would enrich the body of knowledge or the construction management community.Future research should be dedicated to further explore the potential of smart construction site in MCP management.Hongtao ZHOU Hongwei WANG Wei ZENG 2018Frontiers of Engineering Management2018,5,1:12
The Innovation of CNC Machine Interface Based on DNC System显示文摘This paper describes the innovation schemes of the interface of a CNC machinewhich cannot communicate with a computer by a Direct Numerical Control(DNC)interface andthe functions of a DNC interface system. One architecture of hardware and software of a practi-cal single-chip computer based on DNC interface system developed by the authors is given.Without any change of the original hardware and software, this DNC interface system has beenused to innovate the CNC machine’s interface to implement the direct communication between acomputer and a CNC machine and to achieve no tape transmission of a part program and ma-chine parameters. It has been demonstrated that this DNC interface system has certain practicalvalues in improving the reliability, efficiency and production management of CNC/NC machine.Luo Jianjun Fan Liuqun Liang Gongqian China Research and Education Center of Plant Engineering,Northwestern Polytechnical University Xi’an,710072,P.R.China 1997International Journal of Plant Engineering and Management1997,2,1:11
Grey GM(1,1) Model with Function-Transfer Method for Wear Trend Prediction and its Application显示文摘Trend forecasting is an important aspect in fault diagnosis and work state supervision. The principle, where Grey theory is applied in fault forecasting, is that the forecast system is considered as a Grey system; the existing known information is used to infer the unknown information’s character, state and development trend in a fault pattern, and to make possible forecasting and decisions for future development. It involves the whitenization of a Grey process. But the traditional equal time interval Grey GM (1,1) model requires equal interval data and needs to bring about accumulating addition generation and reversion calculations. Its calculation is very complex. However, the non equal interval Grey GM (1,1) model decreases the condition of the primitive data when establishing a model, but its requirement is still higher and the data were pre processed. The abrasion primitive data of plant could not always satisfy these modeling requirements. Therefore, it establishes a division method suited for general data modeling and estimating parameters of GM (1,1), the standard error coefficient that was applied to judge accuracy height of the model was put forward; further, the function transform to forecast plant abrasion trend and assess GM (1,1) parameter was established. These two models need not pre process the primitive data. It is not only suited for equal interval data modeling, but also for non equal interval data modeling. Its calculation is simple and convenient to use. The oil spectrum analysis acted as an example. The two GM (1,1) models put forward in this paper and the new information model and its comprehensive usage were investigated. The example shows that the two models are simple and practical, and worth expanding and applying in plant fault diagnosis.LUO You xin 1 , PENG Zhu 2 , ZHANG Long ting 1 , GUO Hui xin 1 , CAI An hui 1 1Department of Mechanical Engineering, Changde Teachers University, Changde 415003, P.R. 5Avoiding the innovation island in infrastructure mega-project显示文摘Infrastructure mega-project(IMP) innovation is a complex process characterized by highly diverse innovators, a dynamic life-cycle, and stickiness of innovation knowledge. The IMP's innovation network can be easily broken due to the fact that the network involves many different innovators across different industries and different projects. Further reasons for the fragility of the IMP's innovation network are the dynamics of the IMP life-cycle, the diversity of the IMP's innovative entities, the uniqueness of each IMP, and the temporary nature of each IMP's organizations. The innovation island formed by the breaking of an IMP's innovation network can stifle and harm innovation performance. Drawing from the knowledge-based view as well as innovation network theory, our research identifies the heterogeneous characteristics of IMP innovation. We propose a framework to analyze the formation mechanism of the IMP innovation island from three dimensions—the horizontal innovation island, the vertical innovation island, and the longitudinal innovation island. We look at the Hong Kong-ZhuhaiMacao Bridge project to elaborate the innovation island concept that negatively impacts IMP innovation. We also offer theoretical implications regarding the broader question of how IMPs can manage their innovation in practice.Hongquan CHEN Quanke SU Saixing ZENG Daxin SUN Jonathan Jingsheng SHI 2018Frontiers of Engineering Management2018,5,1:10

Grasping institutional complexity in infrastructure megaprojects through the multi-level governance system: A case study of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge construction显示文摘This study analyzes the design and operation of multi-level governance system for the smooth delivery of infrastructure mega-projects with high institutional complexity caused by market transition. From an institutional perspective, this study scrutinizes the structure, elements, and dynamics of the governance system of infrastructure mega-projects and then proposes an integrative framework based on the inductive case study of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge mega-project. Multiple evidences of archives, field studies, and interviews related to the case project are triangulated to further analyze the institutional effects, specifically those with government logics and market structures, on the design and operation of the three-level governance system. Results reveal that the co-evolution between governments and markets in China has shaped the vertical levels of the mega-project governance system and has further affected their evolution and operation across various stages of project development. This study contributes to the rapidly emerging research on complex system governance by proposing a systematic model of three-level mega-project governance to enhance the timely delivery of infrastructure megaprojects within budget.Yi HU Yun LE Xinglin GAO Yongkui LI Mingqiang LIU 2018Frontiers of Engineering Management2018,5,1:9

Grey System Judgment on Reliability of Mechanical Equipment显示文摘The Grey system theory was applied in reliability analysis of mechanical equipment. It is a new theory and method in reliability engineering of mechanical engineering of mechanical equipment. Through the Grey forecast of reliability parameters and the reliability forecast of parts and systems, decisions were made in the real operative state of equipment in real time. It replaced the old method that required mathematics and physical statistics in a large base of test data to obtain a pre check, and it was used in a practical problem. Because of applying the data of practical operation state in real time, it could much more approach the real condition of equipment; it was applied to guide the procedure and had rather considerable economic and social benefits.LUO You xin, GUO Hui xin, ZHANG Long ting, CAI An hui, PENG Zhu Department of Mechanical Engineering,Changde Teachers University, Changde 415003, P.R.China 2001International Journal of Plant Engineering and Management2001,6,3:7

Research on Transmission Accuracy Characteristic Analysis of RV Reducer显示文摘The accuracy of RV reducer transmission is mainly affected by the transmission accuracy. Taking the high precision RV-80E reducer as the research object, aiming at its structural characteristics, the rigid-flexible coupling model of RV reducer is established by using ADAMS multi-body dynamics simulation software, and the correctness of the model is verified. At the same time, the rigid-flexible coupling model is used to design several groups of simulation prototypes with different errors, and the influence of different error factors on the transmission accuracy of the whole machine is analyzed by simulation. Finally, through different error factors, it is concluded that the error combination of positive equidistance+negative offset or negative equidistance+positive offset can effectively reduce the influence of transmission error on the transmission accuracy of the whole machine.TAN Peng QI Houjun HAN Lin FENG Juntao MA Dongsheng 2019International Journal of Plant Engineering and Management2019,24,3:7

Sufficient or insufficient: Assessment of the intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) of the world's major greenhouse gas emitters显示文摘The recent Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has resulted in the submission of the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) of 190 countries. This study aims to provide an analysis of the ambitiousness and fairness of the mitigation components of the INDCs submitted by various parties. We use a unified framework to assess 23 INDCs that cover 50 countries, including European Union (EU)-28 countries as parties to the Convention, which represent 87.45% of the global greenhouse gas emissions in 2012. First, we transform initial INDC files into reported reduction targets. Second, we create four schemes and six scenarios to determine the required reduction effort, which considers each nation's reduction responsibility, capacity, and potential, thereby reflecting their historical and current development status. Finally, we combine the reported reduction target and the required reduction effort to assess INDCs. Evaluation results of the 23 emitters indicate that 2 emitters (i.e., EU and Brazil) are rated as 'sufficient,' 7 emitters (e.g., China, the United States, and Canada) are rated as 'moderate,' and 14 emitters (e.g., India, Russia, and Japan) are rated as 'insufficient.' Most pledges exhibit a considerable distance from representing a fair contribution.Ge GAO Mo CHEN Jiayu WANG Kexin YANG Yujiao XIAN Xunpeng SHI Ke WANG 2019Frontiers of Engineering Management2019,6,1:6

A fuzzy model for assessing the risk exposure of procuring infrastructure mega-projects through public-private partnership: The case of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge显示文摘Considering the rapid urbanization growth rate particularly in developing countries, the number of infrastructure mega-projects over the past years has risen tremendously. Essentially, because infrastructure megaprojects require huge investment funds, better management skills, well qualified and experienced international expertise and technology innovation, they are mostly preferred to be procured using the PPP method compare to the use of the traditional bid-build system. In this regard, this paper aims to develop a fuzzy evaluation model for assessing the suitability of procuring infrastructure mega-projects through PPP by considering their risk exposure. The main body of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge(HZMB)is used as a case project to demonstrate the practicality of the risk evaluation model. The risk evaluation model consists of four critical risk groupings, these include, construction and land risks, commercial risks, operational risks and political risks. Using the risk evaluation equation,a risk index of 4.53 out of 5.00 is computed for the selected project if it is procured through the PPP scheme. This outcome shows that the case project is not suitable for the PPP approach because its risk exposure is very high. The model developed will enable PPP practitioners to predict the likely risk exposure of procuring infrastructure megaprojects through the PPP scheme.Albert P.C.CHAN Robert OSEI-KYEI Yi HU Le YUN 2018Frontiers of Engineering Management2018,5,1:6
