Influences of Motion Artifacts on Three-Dimensional Reconstruction Volume and Conformal Radiotherapy Planning显示文摘Objective:To investigate the influences of motion artifacts on three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction volume and conformal radiotherapy planning. Methods:A phantom which can mimic the clip motion of lung tumor along the cranial-caudal direction is constructed by step motor, small ball of polyethylene and potato. Ten different scan protocols were set and CT data of the phantom were acquired by using a commercial GE LightSpeed16 CT scanner. The 3D reconstruction of the CT data was implemented by adopting volume-rendering technology of GE AdvantageSim 6.0 system. The reconstructed volumes of each target in different scan protocols were measured through 3D measuring tools. Thus, relative deviations of the reconstruction volumes between moving targets and static ones were determined. The three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) plans and conformal fields were created and compared for a static/moving target with the WiMRT treatment planning system (TPS). Results:For a static target, there was no obvious difference among the 3D reconstruction volumes when the CT data were acquired with different pitches and slices. The appearance of 3D reconstruction volume and 3D conformal field of a moving target was quite different from that of static one. The maximum relative deviation is nearly 90% for a moving target scanned with different scan protocols. The relative deviations are variable among the different targets, about from -39.8% to 89.5% for a smaller target and from -18.4% to 20.5% for a larger one. Conclusion:The motion artifacts have great effects on 3D-CRT planning and reconstruction volume, which will greatly induce distorted conformal radiation fields and false DVHs for a moving target. | ZHANG Shu-xu CHEN Guang-jie ZHOU Ling-hong YANG Ke-cheng LIN Sheng-qu | 2007 | Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering(English Edition)2007,16,3: | 9
Four-Dimensional Computerized Tomography (4D-CT) Reconstruction Based on the Similarity Measure of Spatial Adjacent Images显示文摘Objective:To investigate the feasibility of a 4D-CT reconstruction method based on the similarity principle of spatial adjacent images and mutual information measure. Methods:A motor driven sinusoidal motion platform made in house was used to create one-dimensional periodical motion that was along the longitudinal axis of the CT couch. The amplitude of sinusoidal motion was set to an amplitude of ±1 cm. The period of the motion was adjustable and set to 3.5 s. Phantom objects of two eggs were placed in a Styrofoam block, which in turn were placed on the motion platform. These objects were used to simulate volumes of interest undergoing ideal periodic motion. CT data of static phantom were acquired using a multi-slice general electric (GE) LightSpeed 16-slice CT scanner in an axial mode. And the CT data of periodical motion phantom were acquired in an axial and cine-mode scan. A software program was developed by using VC++ and VTK software tools to resort the CT data and reconstruct the 4D-CT. Then all of the CT data with same phase were sorted by the program into the same series based on the similarity principle of spatial adjacent images and mutual information measure among them, and 3D reconstruction of different phase CT data were completed by using the software. Results:All of the CT data were sorted accurately into different series based on the similarity principle of spatial adjacent images and mutual information measures among them. Compared with the unsorted CT data, the motion artifacts in the 3D reconstruction of sorted CT data were reduced significantly, and all of the sorted CT series result in a 4D-CT that reflected the characteristic of the periodical motion phantom. Conclusion:Time-resolved 4D-CT reconstruction can be implemented with any general multi-slice CT scanners based on the similarity principle of spatial adjacent images and mutual information measure. The process of the 4D-CT data acquisition and reconstruction were not restricted to the hardware or software of the CT scanner and has the feasibility ,which extensive applicability. | ZHANG Shu-xu ZHOU Ling-hong CHEN Guang-jie LIN Sheng-qu YE Yu-sheng ZHANG Hai-nan | 2008 | Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering(English Edition)2008,17,3: | 9

Hydrodynamics of a Newly China-Made Jiuling Bileaflet Heart Valve Prostheses显示文摘Jiuling bileaflet prosthetic heart valve is manufactured in compliance with the national standard of P.R.C. GB12279 90. This mechanical heart valve substitute is constructed entirely of solid low temperature pyrolytic carbon. There is no graphite substrate within the leaflets or orifice. This prosthesis presents with satisfactory histocompatibility and induces little hemocoagulation around it. Objective: This study aimed to assess the hydrodynamic function of the newly China made Jiuling bileaflet heart valve prostheses. Methods: Jiuling valve has been tested in a pulsatile flow simulator in the aortic position. The testing condition was set at the pulsatile frequency of 55, 75, and 100 beats/min and a constant cardiac output of 4 L/min. The mean pressure differences, leakage volumes and closing volumes across each valve, and the effective orifice areas have been analyzed. Results: The Jiuling heart valves prosthesis had the lowest pressure difference at any given tissue annulus diameter. The mean pressure difference of all the Jiuling valves decreases with increasing the tissue annulus diameter or pulse frequency, and is in the range of below 10 mmHg. CarboMedics (CarboMedics, Inc., Austin, Tex.) is similar to that of the 21 mm and 23 mm Jiuling heart valves at the given pulse rate under 4 L/min. C L tilting disc valve (Lanzhou CarboMedics Inc., China) is similar to that of the 23 mm Jiuling heart valve. The effective orifice area of the Jiuling mechanical valve increases with increasing the tissue annulus diameter or pulse frequency. CarboMedics and C L tilting disc valve is similar to that of the 21 mm and 23 mm Jiuling heart valves. The Closing volume of the Jiuling prosthetic cardiac valves increases with increasing the tissue annulus diameter, but decreases with increasing the pulse frequency, and is in the range of below 11% (normalized by stroke volume). CarboMedics is below 16.5% of stroke volume; and C L tilting disc valve is below 7.5%. The leakage volume of the Jiuling prosthetic cardiac valves increases with increasing the tissue annulus diameter, but decreases with increasing the pulse frequency, and are in the range of below 28.9% (normalized by stroke volume). The leakage volume of CarboMedics is higher than that of the same sized 25 mm Jiuling valve, and the C L tilting disc valve is also higher than that of Jiuling valve at 4 L/min. Conclusion: For a given tissue diameter, the Jiuling valve showed significantly better hemodynamic characteristics. The material used in the construction is biocompatible, durable, and thromboresistant. The design permits light weight, low profile, and high ratio of flow area to tissue annulus diameter. | CHU Yin ping 1,CHEN Ru kun 2,FAN Yu bo 3 , PU Fang 31 Department of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery Second Hospital Affiliated Shanxi Medical University, Taiyuan 030001,China 2 Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University Medical | 2000 | Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering(English Edition)2000,9,4: | 8
Study on Wireless Power Transmission for Gastrointestinal Microsystems Based on Inductive Coupling显示文摘Wireless power transmission based on inductive coupling for remotely implanted micro devices has been considered in this paper. The receiving coil, integrated in microsystems and the external transmitting coil compose a loosely coupled transformer. The coupling coefficient was calculated and measured on spacing misalignments. The geometric size of transmitting coil was analyzed for the target of remotely delivering power. The received power was maximized by choosing appropriate value of frequency, tuning capacitance and the load resistance. A conventional full bridge rectifier circuit was employed to convert ac to dc voltage. The received dc power was up to 160 mW with a transmitting voltage of 5 Vrms when the receiving coil was placed at the center of the transmitting coil. This may meet the requirement of some microsystems for high power over a long time. | MA Guan-ying YAN Guo-zheng HE Xiu | 2007 | Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering(English Edition)2007,16,2: | 7

Removal of White Noise from ECG Signal Based on Morphological Component Analysis显示文摘To effectively suppress white noise and preserve more useful components of electrocardiogram(ECG) signal, a novel de-noising method based on morphological component analysis(MCA) is proposed. MCA is a method which allows us to separate features contained in an original signal when these features present different morphological aspects. According to the features of ECG, we used the UWT dictionary to sparsely represent mutated component, and used the DCT dictionary to sparsely represent smooth component. The experimental results of the samples choosing from MIT-BIH databases show that the MCA-based method is effective for white noise removal. | ZHAO Wei HUANG Xiao-jing YOU Rong-yi | 2014 | Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering(English Edition)2014,23,1: | 5
Research and Realization of Medical Image Fusion Based on Three-Dimensional Reconstruction显示文摘A new medical image fusion technique is presented. The method is based on three-dimensional reconstruction. After reconstruction, the three-dimensional volume data is normalized by three-dimensional coordinate conversion in the same way and intercepted through setting up cutting plane including anatomical structure,as a result two images in entire registration on space and geometry are obtained and the images are fused at last.Compared with traditional two-dimensional fusion technique,three-dimensional fusion technique can not only resolve the different problems existed in the two kinds of images, but also avoid the registration error of the two kinds of images when they have different scan and imaging parameter. The research proves this fusion technique is more exact and has no registration,so it is more adapt to arbitrary medical image fusion with different equipments. | TAO Ling QIAN Zhi-yu CHEN Chun-xiao | 2007 | Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering(English Edition)2007,16,3: | 5
Emerging Advances to Transform Histopathology Using Virtual Staining显示文摘In an age where digitization is widespread in clinical and preclinical workflows, pathology is still predominantly practiced by microscopic evaluation of stained tissue specimens affixed on glass slides.Over the last decade, new high throughput digital scanning microscopes have ushered in the era of digital pathology that, along with recent advances in machine vision, have opened up new possibilities for Computer-Aided-Diagnoses.Despite these advances, the high infrastructural costs related to digital pathology and the perception that the digitization process is an additional and nondirectly reimbursable step have challenged its widespread adoption. Here,we discuss how emerging virtual staining technologies and machine learning can help to disrupt the standard histopathology workflow and create new avenues for the diagnostic paradigm that will benefit patients and healthcare systems alike via digital pathology. | Yair Rivenson Kevin de Haan W.Dean Wallace Aydogan Ozcan | 2020 | Biomedical Engineering Frontiers2020,1,1: | 4

Pulse Wave Analysis in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease Based on Hilbert-Huang Transformation and Time-domain显示文摘Objective: To study the characteristics of pulse tracings in CHD, and objectively evaluate the significance of pulse signal in diagnosis and appreciation of therapeutic effect in patients with coronary heart disease(CHD), and accordingly provide with theoretic proofs for developing non-invasive technique of pulse diagnosis. Methods: By using the pulse detection system, pulse graphs in CHD patients, patients without CHD and 'health' adults were collected and compared. Then characters of the pulse signal were analyzed with Hilbert-Huang transformation routine (HHT) and time-domain method respectively. Results: There existed characteristic change in pulse graph in CHD. ① h1,h3,h4,h3/h1,t,t5/t4 in time domain parameters of pulse graph increased and w1 was widened. ② 44% of C2 wave in HHT display showed chaotic and disorderly wave and irregularly wave amplitude in CHD. And 72% of C5 Wave exhibited in irregular wave with average wave amplitude over 10 gram-forces. These changes were significantly different from health adults. Conclusion: Characteristic wave of pulse graph extracted with methods of time domain or HHT routine might be considered as proofs for diagnosis and differentiation in CHD. Our researches prognosticate that pulse diagnosis can be used as an ancillary determination in occurrence of CHD for reasons of the advantage of convenient operation and non-invasion. | LI Fu-feng WANG Yi-qin SUN Ren XUE Song YAO Di SHEN Hai-dong | 2013 | Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering(English Edition)2013,22,2: | 4
Image Registration Based on Improved Mutual Information with Hybrid Optimizer显示文摘An improved image registration method is proposed based on mutual information with hybrid optimizer. Firstly, mutual information measure is combined with morphological gradient information. The essence of the gradient information is that locations with a large gradient magnitude should be aligned, but also the orientation of the gradients at those locations should be similar. Secondly, a hybrid optimizer combined PSO with Powell algorithm is proposed to restrain local maxima of mutual information function and improve the registration accuracy to sub-pixel level. Lastly, multiresolution data structure based on Mallat decomposition can not only improve the behavior of registration function, but also improve the speed of the algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate that the new method can yield good registration result, superior to traditional optimizer with respect to smoothness and attraction basin as well as convergence speed. | TANG Min | 2008 | Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering(English Edition)2008,17,1: | 3
Comparison of the Radial Compliance of Three Kinds of Vascular Prostheses and Pig′s Carotid Based on Dynamic-simulated Condition显示文摘There are some problems in the vascular prostheses, which influence the health of the patients. This paper aims to the radial compliance of three kinds of vascular prostheses and the pig's carotid based on the dynamic-simulated condition. The radial compliance of knitted structure vascular prostheses with crimps ranged from 2.52% to 0.94%/100 mmHg, which was superior to e-PTFE and woven prostheses', ranged from 0.73% to 0.31%/100 mmHg and from 0.81% to 0.22%/100 mmHg. But comparing with the radial compliance of pig's carotid, ranged from 7.21% to 10.04%/100 mmHg, there was a big gap between them. And also the trend of the radial compliance of vascular prostheses was different from the real pig's carotid. There is a lot of work left to improve the radial compliance, not only to change the vascular prostheses' compliance, but also to meet with the real vascular. | SHEN Gao-tian LIN Jing ZHANG Hong-qi WANG Lu | 2012 | Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering(English Edition)2012,21,3: | 3
The biological effect and medical functions of the Infrared Rays显示文摘The quantum vibrational energy-spectra including high excited states of the protein molecules have been calculated by new theory of bio-energy transport along the protein molecules and its dynamic equation, discrete nonlinear Schrodinger equation, appropriate to the protein molecules on the basis of the level of molecular structure. This energy-spectra obtained are basically consistent with the experimental values by infrared absorption and radiated measurement of person’s hands and laser-Raman spectrum from metabolically active E.Coli.. From this energy-spectra we know that the infrared lights with (1-3)x1000nm and (5-7)x1000nm wavelength can be absorbed by the protein molecules in the living systems. In accordance with the non-linear theory of the bio-energy transport we know that the energy of the infrared light absorbed by the proteins can result in vibrations of amide-I in amino acids and can facilitate the bio-energy transport along the protein molecular chains from one place to other for the growth of living bodies. This processe is non-thermal. This is just non-thermal effect of the infrared lights. According to the mechanism we explained further the medical functions of the infrared lights absorbed. | PANG Xiao-feng Institute of High-energy Electronics, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China,Chengdu 610054 and International centre for Materialsphysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences,Shenyang 110015,China | 2001 | Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering(English Edition)2001,10,1: | 3
