| 1 | Interaction between Anomalous Winter Monsoon in East Asia and EI Nino Events显示文摘Based on a series of data analyses, the intimate relations between anomalous winter monsoon in East Asia and El Nino arc studied in this paper.Anomalistic circulation in the Northern Hemisphere caused by El Nino event can lead to enhancing the Ferre! cell and the westerlies in the mid-latitudes as the Hadley cell and result in the location of the front zone in East Asia to the north. These are unfavourable for the cold wave breaking out southward in East Asia. Therefore, there ate warmer weather and weaker winter monsoon in East Asia in El Nino winter.There are stronger and frequent cold waves in East Asia during the wintertime prior to the occurrence of El Nino event. They will induce stronger winter monsoon in East Asia. Thus, the weakened trade wind and enhanced cumulus convection in the equatorial middle-western Pacific area caused by the stronger winter monsoon will play an important role in the occurrence of El Nino event. | 3 | Internal structures and high-velocity frictional properties of a bedding-parallel carbonate fault at Xiaojiaqiao outcrop activated by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake显示文摘This paper reports internal structures of a bedding-parallel fault in Permian limestone at Xiaoji-aqiao outcrop that was moved by about 0.5 m during the 2008 MW7.9 Wenchuan earthquake. The fault is located about 3 km to the south from the middle part of Yingxiu-Beichuan fault, a major fault in the Longmenshan fault system that was moved during the earthquake. The outcrop is also located at Anxian transfer zone between the northern and central segments of Yingxiu-Beichuan fault where fault system is complex. Thus the fault is an example of subsidiary faults activated by Wenchuan earthquake. The fault has a strike of 243°or N63°E and a dip of 38°NW and is nearly optimally oriented for thrust motion, in contrast to high-angle coseismic faults at most places. Surface outcrop and two shallow drilling studies reveal that the fault zone is several centimeters wide at most and that the coseismic slip zone during Wenchuan earthquake is about 1 mm thick. Fault zone contains foliated cataclasite, fault breccia, black gouge and yellowish gouge. Many clasts of foliated cataclasite and black gouge contained in fault breccia indicate multiple slip events along this fault. But fossils on both sides of fault do not indicate clear age difference and overall displacement along this fault should not be large. We also report results from high-velocity friction experiments conducted on yellowish gouge from the fault zone using a rotary shear low to high-velocity frictional testing apparatus. Dry experiments at normal stresses of 0.4 to 1.8 MPa and at slip rates of 0.08 to 1.35 m/s reveal dramatic slip weakening from the peak friction coeffcient of around 0.6 to very low steady-state friction coeffcient of 0.1–0.2. Slip weakening parameters of this carbonate fault zone are similar to those of clayey fault gouge from Yingxiu-Beichuan fault at Hongkou outcrop and from Pingxi fault zone. | 4 | Sensitivity Experiments on Summer Monsoon Circulation Cell in East Asia显示文摘The East-Asian summer monsoon meridional circulation (SMMC) cell is simulated together with two vigorous rainbands in terms of a primitive-equation model including in itself a variety of diabatic heating, frictional dissipation and moist processes under the condition of mountains available. Results are comparable to observations. Also, performed are experiments with the reduction of water content, and exclusion of the cumulus convective process and mountain effect. Contrast analyses indicate that the cell is strongly sensitive to the condition of the humidity field in the atmosphere, more intensely at 120°than at 100°E, and the presence (absence) of the cumulus convection has considerable effect on the intensification(weakening) of the cell, with the mountain ranges exhibiting more influence upon the cell at 100° than 120°E. | 5 | Nano-texture of penetrative foliation in metamorphic rocks显示文摘By observing four samples obtained from Jiangxi Province, China, under the scanning electron mi-croscope (SEM), we discovered that nano-particle layers were commonly formed on sliding planes of the penetrative foliation in metamorphic rocks. We also successfully reproduced this phenomenon with a tri-axial pressure experiment. Having gone through the granulitization-alienation-partition in the shear sliding process, the nano-particles (40-95 nm in diameter) display different individual shapes and dis-tinct layered textures. This nano-confinement layer is essentially a frictional-viscous stripe with vis-cous-elastic deformation. In the micro-domain stripe, activities in structural stress field-rheological physical field-geochemical field are very dynamic, corresponding to the three stages (i.e., shear sliding strengthening-weakening-exfoliating) of the foliation development in metamorphism rocks. | 6 | Seepage-stress coupled modeling for rainfall induced loess landslide显示文摘Although rainfall is rare on the Loess Plateau of western China, landslides occur frequently there in rainy season. Surveys report that landslide hazards always follow heavy rains. In this study, a seepage-stress coupling model for rainfall induced landslide is used to examine an actual disastrous event in Yulin by the end of July, 2017. The effects of rainfall duration, rainfall intensity and soil weakening on slope stability are studied in detail. The results illustrate that the safety factor drops sharply at first and then is gradually declining to below 1.05 during additional two days of heavy rain. | 7 | Cretaceous-Early Eocene Tectonic Stress Field in China显示文摘The Cretaceous-early Eocene tectonic stress field in China was reconstructed using the data of 369 largeand medium-scale flexural folds and 157 joint sets. It was found that the maximum compressive principal stress axis in eastern China dips 32° NE (nearly horizontal), and strikes SW 212°, whereas that in western China dips 15° NE (also nearly horizontal) and trends SW 195°. The estimation of the dip angles of fold limbs and the palaeotectonic stress values indicates that there was a tendency of gradual weakening of tectonism from southwestern to northeastern China in the Cretaceous-early Eocene. | 9 | Plastic mechanism of deformation of garnet——Water weakening显示文摘The strongly deformed eclogites are well developed in ultra-high pressure jadeite-quartzite zone of the Dabie Mountains, Eastern China, and garnets had been deformed strongly. Observations by transmission electron microscopy identified not only structure of plastic deformation occurring as free dislocation, dislocation loops and dislocation walls, but also clusters of water molecules present in the deformed garnet. Using infrared spectroscopy, two types of hydrous components are identified as the hydroxyl and free-water in the garnet. This model has nine layers in the vertical and the model variables are represented in the horizontal as truncated expansions of the surface spherical harmonics with rhomboidal truncation at wave number 15. The model involves comparatively complete physical processes and parameterizations with mountains.Using the above model, two experimental schemes are designed, namely control case and anomalous sea surface temperature case.
