| 2 | Cardiac autonomic neuropathy in patients with diabetes mellitus显示文摘Cardiac autonomic neuropathy(CAN)is an often overlooked and common complication of diabetes mellitus.CAN is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.The pathogenesis of CAN is complex and involves a cascade of pathways activated by hyperglycaemia resulting in neuronal ischaemia and cellular death.In addition,autoimmune and genetic factors are involved in the development of CAN.CAN might be subclinical for several years until the patient develops resting tachycardia,exercise intolerance,postural hypotension,cardiac dysfunction and diabetic cardiomyopathy.During its sub-clinical phase,heart rate variability that is influenced by the balance between parasympathetic and sympathetic tones can help in detecting CAN before the disease is symptomatic.Newer imaging techniques(such as scintigraphy)have allowed earlier detection of CAN in the pre-clinical phase and allowed better assessment of the sympathetic nervous system.One of the main difficulties in CAN research is the lack of a universally accepted definition of CAN;however,the Toronto Consensus Panel on Diabetic Neuropathy has recently issued guidance for the diagnosis and staging of CAN,and also proposed screening for CAN in patients with diabetes mellitus.A major challenge,however,is the lack of specific treatment to slow the progression or prevent the development of CAN.Lifestyle changes,improved metabolic control might prevent or slow the progression of CAN.Reversal will require combination of these treatments with new targeted therapeutic approaches.The aim of this article is to review the latest evidence regarding the epidemiology,pathogenesis,manifestations,diagnosis and treatment for CAN. | Gerasimos Dimitropoulos Abd A Tahrani Martin J Stevens | 2014 | World Journal of Diabetes2014,5,1: | 48 |
| 3 | Effect of seawater on incident plane P and SV waves at ocean bottom and engineering characteristics of offshore ground motion records off the coast of southern California, USA显示文摘The effect of seawater on vertical ground motions is studied via a theoretical method and then actual offshore ground motion records are analyzed using a statistical method. A theoretical analysis of the effect of seawater on incident plane P and SV waves at ocean bottom indicate that on one hand, the affected frequency range of vertical ground motions is prominent due to P wave resonance in the water layer if the impedance ratio between the seawater and the underlying medium is large, but it is greatly suppressed if the impedance ratio is small; on the other hand, for the ocean bottom interface model selected herein, vertical ground motions consisting of mostly P waves are more easily affected by seawater than those dominated by SV waves. The statistical analysis of engineering parameters of offshore ground motion records indicate that:(1) Under the infl uence of softer surface soil at the seafl oor, both horizontal and vertical spectral accelerations of offshore motions are exaggerated at long period components, which leads to the peak spectral values moving to a longer period.(2) The spectral ratios(V/H) of offshore ground motions are much smaller than onshore ground motions near the P wave resonant frequencies in the water layer; and as the period becomes larger, the effect of seawater becomes smaller, which leads to a similar V/H at intermediate periods(near 2 s). | 4 | Lanthanide NIR luminescence for telecommunications, bioanalyses and solar energy conversion显示文摘Present-day advanced technologies heavily rely on the exciting magnetic and spectroscopic properties of lanthanide ions. In particular, their ability to generate well-characterized and intense near-infrared (NIR) luminescence is exploited in any modern fiber-optic telecommunication network. In this feature article, we first summarize the whereabouts underlying the design of highly luminescent NIR molecular edifices and materials. We then focus on describing the main trends in three applications related to this spectral range: telecommunications, biosciences, and solar energy conversion. In telecommunications, efforts concentrate presently on getting easily processable polymer-based waveguide amplifiers. Upconversion nanophosphors emitting in the visible after NIR excitation are now ubiquitous in many bioanalyses while their application to bio-imaging is still in its early stages; however, highly sensitive NIR-NIR systems start to be at hand for both in vitro and in vivo imaging, as well as dual probes combining magnetic resonance and optical imaging. | 6 | Formation of complexes of Rubisco-Rubisco activase from La^3+, Ce^3+ treatment spinach显示文摘The complex of Rubisco and Rubisco activase from LaCl3-, CeCl3- treated spinach in vivo is induced. SDS-PAGE result shows that the purified proteins from LaCl3-, CeCl3- treated spinach have not only large and small subunits (55 kD, 14.4 kD) of Rubisco, but also two large subunits of 45 kD and 41 kD near the large subunits of Rubisco. Native-PAGE shows that the purified proteins from LaCl3-, CeCl3- treated spinach have not only a band of Rubisco (560 kD), but also a band of about 1100 kD, about twice distant from Rubisco, which might be a complex of Rubisco and Rubisco activase. The purified enzyme activities from LaCl3-, CeCl3-treated spinach are 1.8 and 2.8 times that of the control,the intensities of absorption and fluorescence are sig- nificantly higher than that of the purified Rubisco from the control, and the total sulfhydryl groups and available sulfhydryl groups are 36—39 –SH per mol enzyme, 14—25 –SH per mol enzyme more than those of the purified Rubisco from the control, respectively. The CD spectra show that the secondary structure of the purified enzyme from LaCl3-, CeCl3 -treated spinach is very dif- ferent from the control. | 8 | Radiometric cross-calibration of the CBERS-02 CCD camera with the TERRA MODIS显示文摘For the application of the CCD camera, the most important payload on CBERS-02, the key is to provide long-term stable radiometric calibration coefficients. Although the vicarious calibration had been proved successful, it had its limitations such as test site requirement and unsuitable for historical data. Cross-calibration is one of the alternative methods, but it needs synchro surface spectrum to achieve spectral band matching factors. Our effort is to probe the influences on these factors. Simulations with a lot of surface spectrum showed that the factors changed with the viewing geometry, atmospheric condition and surface targets. However, simulating with the same viewing geometry and atmospheric condition, the spectral band matching factors of the same or similar surface targets’ spectrum acquired from different dates and different places would like to be consistent to each other within 1%―5%. Thus, the synchro measurement data can be substituted by the same or similar target from other source. Based on this method, using the MODIS as the reference, the cross-calibration was performed for CCD camera. The research demonstrated that the traditional method with single calibration site was inappropriate for CCD camera, since the offsets for its four spectral bands were not zeros. With four calibration sites, these offsets were obtained. | 9 | Application of gemstone spectral imaging for efficacy evaluation in hepatocellular carcinoma after transarterial chemoembolization显示文摘AIM: To assess the value of gemstone spectral imaging(GSI) in efficacy evaluation in hepatocellular cancer(HCC) after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE) treatment.METHODS: Thirty patients with HCC underwent GSI, including nonenhanced, arterial, portalvenous and delayed phase scans, after TACE treatment. Arterial phase images were acquired with GSI for reconstruction of virtual nonenhanced images and color overlay images. Digital subtraction angiography(DSA) was performed in all these patients. Two blinded and independent readers evaluated the data in two reading sessions; standard nonenhanced, arterial, portalvenous, and delayed phase images were read in session A, and the optimal monochromatic images, iodine/water based images and spectrum features were read in session B. Sensitivity and specificity were calculated with the DSA data as the reference standard. The sensitivity and specificity were compared using the χ2 test.RESULTS: DSA revealed 154 lesions in 30 patients, and 100 of them had blood supply. Overall sensitivity and specificity were 72%( 72/100) and 77.8 %(42/54) for session A, and 97%(97/100) and 94.4%(51/54) for session B, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of the two reading sessions were significantly different(χ2 = 23.04, χ2 = 7.11, P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Compared with conventional CT, GSI could significantly improve the detection of small and multiple lesions without increasing the radiation dose. | 10 | Hanning self-convolution window and its application to harmonic analysis显示文摘The Hanning self-convolution window (HSCW) is proposed in this paper. And the phase difference correction algorithm based on the discrete spectrum and the HSCW is given. The HSCW has a low peak side lobe level, a high side lobe roll-off rate, and a simple spectrum representation. Hence, leakage errors and harmonic interferences can be considerably reduced by weighting samples with the HSCW, the parameter estimation by the HSCW-based phase difference correction algorithm is free of solving high order equations, and the overall method can be easily implemented in embedded systems. | 11 | Field measurement and analysis of turbulence coherence for Typhoon Nuri at Macao Friendship Bridge显示文摘For the purpose of investigating the turbulent and spatial coherent characteristics of strong wind during typhoon landing period,two 3-dimensional ultrasonic anemometer stations were set up 30 m horizontally apart on the Macao Friendship Bridge to caputure the turbulent wind velocities of Typhoon Nuri. Based on the reliable and representative field measured data,the mean wind speed and direction,turbulence intensity,turbulence integral scale,turbulence power spectra,spatial correlation coefficient and coherence function were statistically evaluated. The field measurement analysis have presented the following results: 1) Two anemometer stations provided consistent results. The mean wind speed variation in time domain presented typical M-shape curves. The strong wind (10-minute mean wind speed higher than 8th grade in Beaufort wind scale) direction changed in a big range up to 122-degrees-angle,indicating the field measurements scoped over the typhoon landing period. 2) The ratio of the longitudinal,lateral and vertical turbulence intensities of the strong wind in the typhoon eye wall region was 1:0.96:0.36. Compared with the code defined ratio 1:0.88:0.5,the lateral component was larger and the vertical component was smaller. 3) The value of integral scale increased when the eye wall of Typhoon Nuri passed over the field measurement site. Before the center of Typhoon Nuri arrived,the integral scale of the strong typhoon wind was about twice compared with that for the non-typhoon wind. 4) The spatial correlation of the turbulent wind,coherence function curve and the decay factor had significant differences at different times during the typhoon process. In the eye wall of the typhoon,the horizontal spatial correlation was relatively strong and horizontally spatial correlation spectrum decayed slower with frequency increase. The minimum regressed coefficient C in coherence function model was 4.67,which is lower than the code defined low limit. The maximum decay factor was 27.75 which is larger than the code defined upper bound. Setting up and solving the equation constitute a new approach of the numerical weather prediction. Using the spectral model T42L9 as a dynamic kernel, a global self_memorial T42 model (SMT42) was established, with which twelve cases of 30_d integration experiments were carried out. Compared with the T42L9, the SMT42 is much better in 500 hPa forecast not only for daily circulation but also for monthly mean circulation. | 14 | Detection of gallbladder stones by dual-energy spectral computed tomography imaging显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the detectability of gallbladder stones by dual-energy spectral computed tomography(CT) imaging.METHODS:Totally 217 patients with surgically confirmed gallbladder stones were retrospectively analyzed who underwent single-source dual-energy CT scanning from August 2011 to December 2013. Polychromatic images were acquired. And post-processing software was used to reconstruct monochromatic(40 ke V and 140 ke V) images,and calcium-lipid pair-wise base substance was selected to acquire calcium base images and lipid base images. The above 5 groups of images were evaluated by two radiologists separately with 10-year experience in CT image reading. In the 5 groups of images,the cases in the positive group and negative group were counted and then the detection rate was calculated. The inter-observer agreement on the scoring results was analyzed by Kappa test,and the scoring results were analyzed by Wilcoxon test,with P < 0.05 indicating that the difference was statistically significant. The stone detection results of the 5 groups of images were analyzed by χ2 test.RESULTS:There was good inter-observer agreement(k = 0.772). In 217 patients with gallbladder stones,there was a statistically significant difference in stone visualization between spectral images(40 ke V,140 ke V,calcium base and lipid base images) and polychromatic images(P < 0.05). 40 ke V monochromatic images were better than 140 ke V monochromatic images(4.90 ± 0.35 vs 4.53 ± 1.15,P < 0.05),and calcium base images were superior to lipid base images(4.91 ± 0.43 vs 4.77 ± 0.63,P < 0.05),but there was no statisticallysignificant difference between 40 ke V monochromatic images and calcium base images(4.90 ± 0.35 vs 4.91 ± 0.43,P > 0.05). | 16 | 早胃的癌症用的程度的诊断灵活光谱成像颜色改进显示文摘 The demarcation line between the cancerous lesion and the surrounding area could be easily recognized with flexible spectral imaging color enhancement (FICE) system compared with conventional white light images. The characteristic f inding of depressed-type early gastric cancer (EGC) in most cases was revealed as reddish lesions distinct from the surrounding yellowish non-cancerous area without magnification. Conventional endoscopic images provide little information regarding depressed lesions located in the tangential line, but FICE produces higher color contrast of such cancers. Histological f indings in depressed area with reddish col- or changes show a high density of glandular structure and an apparently irregular microvessel in intervening parts between crypts, resulting in the higher color con- trast of FICE image between cancer and surrounding area. Some depressed cancers are shown as whitish lesion by conventional endoscopy. FICE also can pro- duce higher color contrast between whitish cancerous lesions and surrounding atrophic mucosa. For nearly flat cancer, FICE can produce an irregular structuralpattern of cancer distinct from that of the surrounding mucosa, leading to a clear demarcation. Most elevated-type EGCs are detected easily as yellowish lesions with clearly contrasting demarcation. In some cases, a partially reddish change is accompanied on the tumor surface similar to depressed type cancer. In addition, the FICE system is quite useful for the detection of minute gastric cancer, even without magnif ication. | 17 | NIR-red spectral space based new method for soil moisture monitoring显示文摘Drought is a complex natural disaster that occurs frequently. Soil moisture has been the main issue in remote monitoring of drought events as the most direct and important variable describing the drought. Spatio-temporal distribution and variation of soil moisture evidently affect surface evapotranspiration, agricultural water demand, etc. In this paper, a new simple method for soil moisture monitoring is de- veloped using near-infrared versus red (NIR-red) spectral reflectance space. First, NIR-red spectral reflectance space is established using atmospheric and geometric corrected ETM+ data, which is manifested by a triangle shape, in which different surface covers have similar spatial distribution rules. Next, the model of soil moisture monitoring by remote sensing (SMMRS) is developed on the basis of the distribution characteristics of soil moisture in the NIR-red spectral reflectance space. Then, the SMMRS model is validated by comparison with field measured soil moisture data at different depths. The results showed that satellite estimated soil moisture by SMMRS is highly accordant with field measured data at 5 cm soil depth and average soil moisture at 0―20 cm soil depths, correlation coef- ficients are 0.80 and 0.87, respectively. | 18 | HJ-1A HSI on-orbit radiometric calibration and validation research显示文摘The calibration experiment data at Dunhuang radiometric calibration site in October, 2008 were used to achieve the on-orbit radiometric calibration for HJ-1A hyper spectral imager (HSI). Two other field experiments data were used to validate the Dunhuang calibration results. One field experiment took place in Inner-Mongolia, China in September, 2008, and the other field experiment took place in Lake Frome, Australia in February, 2009. Finally, the ‘confidence interval of calibration error’ concept was put forward for quantitatively computing the calibration coefficient error confidence interval. The results showed that the Dunhuang calibration results in 2008 had high reliability. | 19 | Cyclostratigraphy of the Induan (Early Triassic) in West Pingdingshan Section,Chaohu,Anhui Province显示文摘The Induan sequence in the West Pingdingshan Section, Chaohu, Anhui Province, displays a series of superimposed mudstone/limestone cycles. The lithological character of the cycles, combined with power spectral and wavelet analysis of magnetic susceptibility readings, reveals 12 short eccentricity and 56 precession Milankovitch cycles - obliquity cycles are not apparent. The uniformity of cycle thicknesses indicates a stable depositional setting making this section ideal to perform various geo-logical studies. Accordingly, the Induan Stage is estimated to have lasted 1.1 Ma, and the depositional rate for this part of the section is about 3.7 cm/ka.
