1Pillararene-based supramolecular systems for theranostics and bioapplications显示文摘As an emerging type of important macrocycles for supramolecular chemistry,pillararenes and their derivatives have been widely studied and applied in numerous fields,which intensively promotes the development of chemistry,materials science and biology.Pillararene-based theranostic systems are of special interest in the biological and medical areas as they have shown very promising results.Owing to easy preparation,reliable guest affinity,good biocompatibility and stability,pillararenes are frequently used to construct functional biomaterials.On one hand,pillararenes can either be used individually or form diversiform self-assemblies such as micelles,nanoparticles and vesicles to increase water solubility and biocompatibility of drugs.On the other hand,it is promising to modify solid materials like framework materials,silica nanoparticles and graphene oxides with pillararene derivatives to enhance their functions and controllability.In this review,we summarize recent endeavors of pillararene-based supramolecular systems with theranostics and other biological applications comprising drug delivery/chemotherapy,photodynamic/photothermal therapy,antimicrobials,bioimaging,etc.By introducing several typical examples,the design principles,preparation strategies,identifications and bio-applications of these pillararene-based supramolecular systems are described.Future challenges and directions of this field are also outlined.Huangtianzhi Zhu Qi Li Laila E.Khalil-Cruz Niveen M.Khashab Guocan Yu Feihe Huang 2021Science China Chemistry2021,64,5:4

3Investigating Ion Transport through Artificial Transmembrane Channels Containing Introverted Groups显示文摘The investigation on the relationship between structure and transport activity of artificial transmembrane channels has still re-mained a challenge because of lacking strategy to precisely arrange the functional group in the channel structures.Herein,we report a general strategy to monitor ion transport through the artificial channels by using unimolecular tubular molecules containing intro-verted groups.We found that the ion transport rate decreased with elongation of the introverted sidechains and the channel with propyl group as the introverted sidechain exhibited the longest opening duration time.Moreover,we have revealed that,comparing to the ion transport rate,the opening duration is a more important factor for determining the transport activity of the artificial channels.Ya-Wei Li Yong-Hong Fu Jun-Li Hou 2022Chinese Journal of Chemistry2022,40,11:0
4Shape Selectivity of a Metallo Cavitand Host Allows Separation of n-Alkanes from Isooctane显示文摘The use of a metallo cavitand for the selective sequestration of n-alkanes from their mixtures with isooctane is described.Competition experiments and NMR spectroscopy are used to show the preference of a water-soluble cavitand host for guests that are hydro-phobic and have narrow or flat shapes.The host showed selectivity for trans 1,4-dimethylcyclohexane over the cis-isomers.The sep-arations of n-alkanes from isooctane by gas/liquid adsorption and a liquid/liquid extraction are detailed.Yun-Hui Wan Faiz-Ur Rahman Julius Rebek Jr. Yang Yu 2021Chinese Journal of Chemistry2021,39,6:0
5Selective Recognition of Quaternary Ammonium Ions by Structurally Flexible Cages显示文摘The binding behaviors of three structurally similar and flexible cages to a series of quaternary ammonium ions have been systematically studied.The cage with phenyl sidewalls is new;moreover,its structure and conformational states have been characterized by NMR;2D NMR,and X-ray crystallography.The results reveal that the three cages show quite high binding affinities and selectivities to different guests.Enthalpy-entropy compensation was invoked to explain the different binding performance.Moreover,a six-component,high-fidelity self-sorting system was successfully constructed by using these cages and three guests.This suggests that conformationally flexible hosts may also achieve high binding affinities and selectivities,which is in contrast to the traditional point of view-only preorganized and rigid hosts are able to do so.This research advocates that conformational flexibility should also be seriously considered in host design.Qi-Cheng Huang Mao Quan Huan Yao Liu-Pan Yang Wei Jiang 2021Chinese Journal of Chemistry2021,39,6:0
