1Theory of light propagation in arbitrary two-dimensional curved space显示文摘As an analog model of general relativity,optics on some two-dimensional(2 D)curved surfaces has received increasing attention in the past decade.Here,in light of the Huygens-Fresnel principle,we propose a theoretical frame to study light propagation along arbitrary geodesics on any 2 D curved surfaces.This theory not only enables us to solve the enigma of'infinite intensity'that existed previously at artificial singularities on surfaces of revolution but also makes it possible to study light propagation on arbitrary 2 D curved surfaces.Based on this theory,we investigate the effects of light propagation on a typical surface of revolution,Flamm’s paraboloid,as an example,from which one can understand the behavior of light in the curved geometry of Schwarzschild black holes.Our theory provides a convenient and powerful tool for investigations of radiation in curved space.CHENNI XU LI-GANG WANG 2021Photonics Research2021,9,12:2
2弯曲波导上的光学调控与应用显示文摘超材料作为一种突破性的人工设计材料,在电磁波调控领域起到了革命性的作用。变换光学与超材料的结合不仅可以充分发挥超材料的奇妙特性,实现许多神奇的效应,还可以用作光学模拟,展现一些无法直接观测到的宇宙学现象。由于超材料自身结构的局限性,有些电磁参数仍无法通过微结构的调控来实现,这时曲面开始受到人们的关注。曲面结构的波导也可以对电磁波起到调控的作用,更可以突破超材料的一些限制,实现许多新奇的效应。通过介绍南京大学刘辉课题组在曲面结构波导上的一系列工作,展示了曲面波导在各个方向上的奇妙应用,并讨论了曲面波导的应用前景。何润秋 梁国华 刘辉 祝世宁 2021光学学报2021,41,8:1
3Manipulating cavity photon dynamics by topologically curved space显示文摘Asymmetric microcavities supporting Whispering-gallery modes(WGMs)are of great significance for on-chip optical information processing.We establish asymmetric microcavities on topologically curved surfaces,where the geodesic light trajectories completely reconstruct the cavity mode features.The curvature-mediated photon-lifetime engineering enables the enhancement of the quality factors of periodic island modes by up to 200 times.Strong and weak coupling between modes of very different origins occurs when the space curvature brings them into resonance,leading to fine tailoring of the cavity photon energy and lifetime and the observation of non-Hermitian exceptional point(EP).At large space curvatures,the role of the WGMs is replaced by high-Q periodic modes protected by the high stability of island-like light trajectory.Our work demonstrates interesting physical mechanisms at the crosspoint of optical chaotic dynamics,non-Hermitian physics,and geodesic optical devices,and would initiate the novel area of geodesic microcavity photonics.Yongsheng Wang Yuhao Ren Xiaoxuan Luo Bo Li Zaoyu Chen Zhenzhi Liu Fu Liu Yin Cai Yanpeng Zhang Jin Liu Feng Li 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,11:1
