1Liver metabolomics study reveals protective function of Phyllanthus urinaria against CCl_4-induced liver injury显示文摘Phyllanthus Urinaria L.(PUL) is a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat hepatic and renal disorders. However, the mechanism of its hepatoprotective action is not fully understood. In the present study, blood biochemical indexes and liver histopathological changes were used to estimate the extent of hepatic injury. GC/MS and LC/MS-based untargeted metabolomics were used in combination to characterize the potential biomarkers associated with the protective activity of PUL against CCl_4-induced liver injury in rats. PUL treatment could reverse the increase in ALT, AST and ALP induced by CCl_4 and attenuate the pathological changes in rat liver. Significant changes in liver metabolic profiling were observed in PUL-treated group compared with liver injury model group. Seventeen biomarkers related to the hepatoprotective effects of PUL against CCl_4-induced liver injury were screened out using nonparametric test and Pearson's correlation analysis(OPLS-DA). The results suggested that the potential hepatoprotective effects of PUL in attenuating CCl_4-induced hepatotoxicity could be partially attributed to regulating L-carnitine, taurocholic acid, and amino acids metabolism, which may become promising targets for treatment of liver toxicity. In conclusion, this study provides new insights into the mechanism of the hepatoprotection of Phyllanthus Urinaria.GUO Qing ZHANG Qian-Qian CHEN Jia-Qing ZHANG Wei QIU Hong-Cong ZHANG Zun-Jian LIU Bu-Ming XU Feng-Guo 2017Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines2017,15,7:6
2Chemical composition and anti-inflammatory activity of Boswellia ovalifoliolata essential oils from leaf and bark显示文摘We isolated the essential oils from Boswellia ovalifoliolata N.P.Balakr and A.N.Henry using hydrodistillation, identified the obtained compounds using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC–MS) and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),and studied the photophysical and electrochemical properties using UV–visible and fluorescence spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. On the basis of GC–MS spectra,38 compounds were identified in the essential oil from leaves and 26 in the oil from bark. The bark oil contained 13.44% b-Farnesene(sesquiterpene),10.45% caryophyllene oxide(sesquiterpene) and 6.6% spathulenol,(2 Z,6 E)-(sesquiterpene alcohol); the leaf oil contained 11.1% spathulenol(sesquiterpene alcohol),9.0% caryophyllene oxide(sesquiterpenoids) and 6.3% decyl acetate(ester).FT-IR spectra confirmed the presence of aliphatic aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acid, alcohols, esters and ethers in both oil types.UV–visible absorption spectra showed maximum absorbance at 245,290 and 402 nm for bark oil,and 250,285 and 325 nm for leaf.Bark oil showed strong emission with maximum emission wavelength at 456 nm was higher than that of leaf oil at 414 nm.The essential oil had significant anti-inflammatory activity, and the reduction potential of the leaf oil was-0.44 and-0.56 e V for bark.Venkatesan Geetha Sarada Nallani Chakravarthula 2018Journal of Forestry Research2018,29,2:1
3Reversal of acetaminophen-generated oxidative stress and concomitant hepatotoxicity by a phytopharmaceutical product显示文摘The increasing popularity of herbal medicine and the well-established health benefits of phytochemicals have spurred the multiplicity of nutraceutical and phytopharmaceutical products. In this study,Trévo^TM,a nutraceutical and phytopharmaceutical product, was evaluated for beneficial effects in acetaminophen-induced hepatic toxicity in Wistar rats.Animals received Trévo^TM(1.5 mL/kg,3.0 mL/kg or 4.5 mL/kg)orally for 14 days.Hepatotoxicity was induced by the oral administration of acetaminophen(2 g/kg),24 h prior to sacrifice.Biochemical liver function tests, oxidative stress indicators and histoarchitectural changes were evaluated.Acetaminophen administration occasioned significant increase(P<0.05)in serum bilirubin level and activities of the aminotransferases, alkaline phosphatase,γ-glutamyltransferase and lactate dehydrogenase accompanied by a significant decrease(P<0.05)in albumin level as well as histopathological alterations in liver sections.Promotion of hepatic oxidative stress by acetaminophen was revealed by significant(P<0.05)increase in lipid peroxidation, depletion of reduced glutathione, and decrease in superoxide dismutase and catalase activities.Administration of Trévo^TM remarkably ameliorated acetaminophen-induced histopathological alterations and changes in serum and tissue biochemical markers. The protective effect of Trévo^TM(4.5 mL/kg)was at par with that of Silymarin(25 mg/kg).The present study indicates that Trévo^TM has notable salubrious effects.Afolabi C.Akinmoladun Kehinde O.Oguntunde Lawrence O.Owolabi Omotayo B.Ilesanmi Joan O.Ogundele M.Tolulope Olaleye Afolabi A.Akindahunsi 2017Food Science and Human Wellness2017,6,1:0
