1Performance of a two-state quantum engine improved by the superposition effect显示文摘The performance of a two-state quantum engine under different conditions is analyzed.It is shown that the efficiency of the quantum engine can be enhanced by superposing the eigenstates at the beginning of the cycle.By employing the finite-time movement of the potential wall,the power output of the quantum engine as well as the efficiency at the maximum power output(EMP) can be obtained.A generalized potential is adopted to describe a class of two-level quantum engines in a unified way.The results obtained show clearly that the performances of these engines depend on the external potential,the geometric configuration of the quantum engines,and the superposition effect.Moreover,it is found that the superposition effect will enlarge the optimally operating region of quantum engines.OU CongJie HUANG ZhiFu LIN BiHong CHEN JinCan 2013Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2013,56,10:4

3On the developments and applications of optical microcavities: an overview显示文摘Devices based on the optical microcavities which confne light to small volumes by resonant recirculation are already indispensable for a wide range of studies and applications.This article provides an overview of the development and application of optical microcavities.We frst give a pedagogical introduction to the interaction between a two-level system and a quantized electromagnetic feld in the cavity,based on the so-called Jaynes-Cummings model,which is basic and important theory model in the cavity quantum electrodynamics,and various quantum phenomena and applications of it.Then,we overview three basic types of the microcavity structures,and also highlight the progress achieved so far in these systems.Based on these three structures,we give an account of three representative applications of optical microcavities,and explain their microcavity requirements and the state of the art for these devices,before outlining the challenges for the future.WANG TieJun CAO Cong WANG Chuan 2013Science China(Information Sciences)2013,56,12:0
