1Sediment resuspension under action of wind in Taihu Lake,China显示文摘A field study was undertaken to investigate the changes of the current speed,wave parameters and sediment resuspension under different wind speeds in the Taihu Lake.The Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler(ADCP) and MIDAS DWR Wave Recorder were used to collect the data of currents and waves,respectively.The characteristics of sediment resuspension were investigated by a layered sampling technology.The measurement results showed that the current speed increased in direct proportion with the wind speed.Vertical distributions of the current speed represented significant inflection points at 0.4 of the relative water depth.Both the upper and lower layers followed logarithmic distributions.The mean wind speed and wave parameters(wave height and wave energy density) showed exponential distributions,meanwhile similar distribution was found between the mean wind speed and current speed.With rising surface wind,a corresponding increase in the concentration and particle size of the Suspended Particulate Matter(SPM) was observed in the water column.Different kinds of particles could influence the SPM concentration in the water column.The critical wind speed of sediment resuspension and the corresponding sediment incipient shear stress was found to be 3.7-4.0 m s^(-1) and 0.011 N m^(-2),respectively.The results of this study can be used to help understand and predict the changes of flow structure and water quality induced by different wind disturbances in shallow lakes.Sha-sha ZHENG Pei-fang WANG Chao WANG Jun HOU 2015International Journal of Sediment Research2015,30,1:5

3Numerical simulation of wave scouring beneath marine pipeline using smoothed particle hydrodynamics显示文摘In this paper a smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH)approach is presented to simulate scouring due to wave around a marine pipeline on a sloping sea bed.The proposed method is similar to socalled SPH projection method and consists of three steps.The first two steps play the role of prediction,while in the third step a Poisson Equation is used for both fluid and sea bed to impose incompressibility constraint.It is assumed that the sandy sediments around pipeline section which represent the variable boundary and scour profile,behave as a non-Newtonian fluid.Therefore scouring below a pipe under waves in a test flume with a piston wave maker and sandy sloping bed is estimated using Newtonian-non Newtonian fluid flow interaction model.The Bingham Model is cautiously utilized for simulation of the sea bed behavior.Modeled results with or without viscosity were compared with analytical,empirical and experimental results and a reasonable agreement was found.Results show that the developed model is a powerful tool to simulate complex free surface and Newtonian-non Newtonian fluid interaction problems.A.MIRMOHAMMADI M.J.KETABDARI 2011International Journal of Sediment Research2011,26,3:2

5Study on the Geo-Environmental Evolution of the Laolonggou Lagoon Under the Impacts of the Caofeidian Reclamation Project in Hebei Province显示文摘The Caofeidian Reclamation Project has been the biggest reclamation project in China so far, in which 310 km^2 sea areas were reclaimed along the coast of Hebei Province, and it also bring about many problems and defects for large reclaiming area. The study focuses on the influences of the engineering exerted on evolution of the Laolonggou Lagoon with the methods of topographical measurement and surface sediment analysis. The results demonstrate that the topographical changes in the Laolonggou Lagoon had been controlled obviously by the engineering at three stages. Besides, blocking and reopening of the shoal tidal channel also affected the geological environment of the lagoon area. In the aspect of topographical change, the Laolonggou Inlet first experienced deposition after the shoal tidal channel was blocked, followed by short-time eroding for quarrying and cofferdam construction in the east, then depositing slowly after the reclaiming activity ceased, and finally eroding after the shoal tidal channel was reopened. The project, particularly cofferdam construction led to the movement of the Laolonggou Inlet axis from west to east for 50 – 100 m. In the aspect of sediment variation, the reclamation project and hydrodynamic change resulted in the variation in compositions and distribution pattern. The western lagoon area has become land mainly constituted by silt, while the sediments in the eastern area have turned finer in size. After the shoal tidal channel was reopened, the current velocity in the Laolonggou Inlet has been enhanced, making the sediments at the bottom become coarser. 6Sediment transport trends and cross-sectional stability of a lagoonal tidal inlet on the Central Coast of Vietnam显示文摘Lagoonal tidal inlets are a typical morphology of the Central Coast of Vietnam. Recently, navigation channels in these inlets have become increasingly threatened by siltation. This study analyses the relations between sediment distribution and transport trends (using the technique of Sediment Trend Analysis-STA■) in the lagoonal system of the De Gi inlet and then proposes appropriate countermeasures against sand deposition in the navigation channel. The STA identified three types of transport trends in the De Gi inlet, namely dynamic equilibrium, net accretion, and net erosion. Processes associated with the tidal prism have resulted in trends of sediment transport and deposition across the flood and ebb tidal shoals, which maintain a present cross-sectional area of about 1000m^2. However, longshore sediment transport from north to south resulting from northeast waves cause additional sand deposition in the channel. In addition, the effects of refraction associated with a nearby headland and jetty also increase sedimentation. These processes provide the main reasons for sediment deposition in the De Gi inlet. Short term and regular dredging helps to maintain the navigation channel. 7Population dynamics of the tropical oyster Magallana bilineata(Mollusca,Bivalvia,Ostreidae)in Mengkabong Bay,Tuaran,Malaysia显示文摘Knowledge about the population dynamics within a specific spatial area is vital for the effective planning and management of important fishery resources.Population parameters,including the asymptotic length(L∞),growth coefficient(K),mortalities(Z,F,and M),recruitment pattern,exploitation level(E),and yield per recruit(Y’/R),of the tropical oyster Magallana bilineata in Mengkabong Bay,Tuaran,Malaysia were analyzed by using the FiSAT software,using on the monthly shell length-frequency data collected from April 2019 to March 2020.A total of 435 oysters with shell lengths ranging from 3.64 to 11.16 cm were analyzed.Habitat water temperature,salinity,dissolved oxygen,hydrogen ion concentration(pH),and chlorophyll concentration were measured at 29.0-33.7◦C,26.68-35.74 psμ,3.18-6.99 mg/L,6.57-8.29 and 1.51-98.93μg/L,respectively.The logarithmic relationship between the length and weight of Log W=1.9055 Log L+0.1049(R2=0.5431)with exponent b of 1.9055 for combined sexes showed a negative allometric growth(b<3),indicating that the oysters in Mengkabong Bay are skinny.Several management measures have been proposed to promote high meat growth,including the use of genetically selected seeds,selection of new farming sites and adoption of grow-out methods that favour high meat growth.Asymptotic length(L∞)and growth coefficient(K)of the von Bertalanffy Growth Formula(VBGF)for M.bilineata were estimated at 12.13 cm and 1.00 yr1,respectively.The theoretical ages at length zero(t0)(0.0487)were estimated by substituting L∞and K in Pauly’s equation.The sizes attained by M.bilineata were 3.76,5.04,6.13,7.05,7.83,and 8.49 cm at the end of 2,4,6,8,10,and 12 months,respectively.The calculated growth performance index(φ)for M.bilineata in Mengkabong Bay was 2.168,while the estimated lifespan was 3 years.The recruitment pattern was observed year-round,with higher recruitment activities in September-October 2019 and January 2020.The total mortality(Z)was analyzed using the length-converted catch curve and estimated at 3.04 yr^(-1),fishing mortality(F)at 0.63 yr^(-1),and natural mortality(M)at 2.41 yr^(-1).The lower exploitation rate(0.21)compared to the recommended 0.5 and Beverton and Holt’s estimated maximum allowable limit of exploitation rate(Emax)of 0.587 indicated that the M.bilineata stock in Mengkabong Bay was under-exploited.Several recommendations that could aid in the development of M.bilineata in Mengkabong Bay include promoting local oysters through collaboration with leading hotels and restaurants,developing food processing technology for downstream products,and establishing a sanitation programme that includes monitoring and enforcing sanitary conditions in the culture,harvest and processing sectors.Joanna W.Doinsing Julian Ransangan 2024Aquaculture and Fisheries2024,9,2:0
