Evaluation of diffusion weighted imaging of magnetic resonance imaging in small focal hepatic lesions:a quantitative study in 56 cases显示文摘Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) as a new technique of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to detect focal hepatic lesions. This study was designed to evaluate the significance of DWI to differentiate focal hepatic lesions less than 3 cm in diameter by the quantitation of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values. METHODS:DWI using 1.5T MRI scanner unit was performed with a spin-echo single-shot echo planar imaging (EPI) in 56 cases of small focal hepatic lesions, including hepatocellular carcinoma (11), hepatic metastatic tumor (15 ), hepatic cavernous hemangioma (14), and hepatic cyst (16).The ADC values of these lesions were calculated respectively. The ratios of the ADC values of lesion/liver in hepatocellular carcinomas and hepatic metastatic tumors were also estimated. RESULTS:The mean ADC values (mm2/s) were (0.93±0.06) ×10-3 in hepatocellular carcinomas, (1.09±0.18)×10-3 in hepatic metastatic tumors,(1.95±0.38)×10-3 in hepatic cavernous hemangiomas, and (3.18±0.33) ×10-3 in hepatic cysts. The ratios of ADC values of lesion/liver were 0.90±0.06 and 1.15±0.14 in hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatic metastatic tumors respectively, which were significantly different (P<0.05). CONCLUSION:The measurement of ADC values and the ratios of ADC values of lesion/liver are helpful in MR diagnosis and differentiation of focal hepatic lesions. | Xian-Yue Quan, Xi-Jie Sun, Zhi-Jian Yu and Ming Tang Imaging Center, Affiliated Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University, Guangzhou 510282, China | 2005 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2005,4,3: | 39

Multislice CT angiography in coronary artery disease: Technical developments, radiation dose and diagnostic value显示文摘Multislice computed tomography (CT) angiography has been increasingly used in the detection and diagnosis of coronary artery disease because of its rapid technical evolution from the early generation of 4-slice CT scanners to the latest models such as 64-slice, 256-slice and 320-slice CT scanners. Technical developments of multislice CT imaging enable improved diagnostic value in the detection of coronary artery disease, and this indicates that multislice CT can be used as a reliable lessinvasive alternative to invasive coronary angiography in selected patients. In addition, multislice CT angiography has played a significant role in the prediction of disease progression and cardiac events. Despite promising results reported in the literature, multislice CT has the disadvantage of having a high radiation dose which could contribute to the radiation-induced malignancy. A variety of strategies have been currently undertaken to reduce the radiation dose associated with multislice CT coronary angiography while in the meantime acquiring diagnostic images. In this article, the author will review the technical developments, radiation dose associated with multislice CT coronary angiography, and strategies to reduce radiation dose. The diagnostic and prognostic value of multislice CT angiography in coronary artery disease is briefly discussed, and future directions of multislice CT angiography in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease will also be highlighted. | Zhonghua Sun, Discipline of Medical Imaging, Department of Imaging and Applied Physics, Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Western Australia 6845, Australia | 2010 | World Journal of Cardiology2010,2,10: | 19
Memetic computation based on regulation between neural and immune systems: the framework and a case study显示文摘Lamarckian learning has been introduced into evolutionary computation to enhance the ability of local search. The relevant research topic, memetic computation, has received significant amount of interest. In this study, a novel memetic computational framework is proposed by simulating the integrated regulation between neural and immune systems. The Lamarckian learning strategy of simulating the unidirectional regulation of neural system on immune system is designed. Consequently, an immune memetic algorithm based on the Lamarckian learning is proposed for numerical optimization. The proposed algorithm combines the advantages of immune algorithms and mathematical programming, and performs well in both global and local search. The simulation results based on ten low-dimensional and ten high-dimensional benchmark problems show that the immune memetic algorithm outperforms the basic genetic algorithm-based memetic algorithm in solving most of the test problems. | GONG MaoGuo , JIAO LiCheng, LIU Fang & YANG Jie Key Lab of Intelligent Perception and Image Understanding of Ministry of Education of China, Institute of Intelligent Information Processing, Xidian University, Xi’an 710071, China | 2010 | Science China(Information Sciences)2010,53,8: | 16
Geometric construction of energy-minimizing Bézier curves显示文摘Modeling energy-minimizing curves have many applications and are a basic problem of Geometric Modeling. In this paper,we propose the method for geometric design of energy-minimizing B′ezier curves.Firstly, the necessary and sufficient condition on the control points for B′ezier curves to have minimal internal energy is derived.Based on this condition,we propose the geometric constructions of three kinds of B′ezier curves with minimal internal energy including stretch energy, strain energy and jerk energy.Given some control points, the other control points can be determined as the linear combination of the given control points. We compare the three kinds of energy-minimizing B′ezier curves via curvature combs and curvature plots, and present the collinear properties of quartic energy-minimizing B′ezier curves. We also compare the proposed method with previous methods on efficiency and accuracy. Finally, several applications of the curve generation technique, such as curve interpolation with geometric constraints and modeling of circle-like curves are discussed. | XU Gang 1,4,5,WANG GuoZhao 2 & CHEN WenYu 2,3 1 Institute of Graphics and Image,Hangzhou Dianzi University,Hangzhou 310018,China 2 Department of Mathematics,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310027,China 3 School of Computer Engineering,Nanyang Technological University,639798,Singapore 4 Galaad,INRIA Sophia-Antipolis,2004 Route des Lucioles,06902,France 5 State Key Lab of CAD & CG,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310027,China | 2011 | Science China(Information Sciences)2011,54,7: | 15

CT and MR imaging patterns for pancreatic carcinoma invading the extrapancreatic neural plexus (Part Ⅱ):Imaging of pancreatic carcinoma nerve invasion显示文摘Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are excellent modalities which have the ability to detect, depict and stage the nerve invasion associated with pancreatic carcinoma. The aim of this article is to review the CT and MR patterns of pancreatic carcinoma invading the extrapancreatic neural plexus and thus provide useful information which could help the choice of treatment methods.Pancreatic carcinoma is a common malignant neoplasm with a high mortality rate. There are many factors influencing the prognosis and treatment options for those patients suffering from pancreatic carcinoma, such as lymphatic metastasis, adjacent organs or tissue invasion, etc.Among these factors, extrapancreatic neural plexus invasion is recognized as an important factor when considering the management of the patients. | Hou-Dong Zuo,Wei Tang,Xiao-Ming Zhang,Qiong-Hui Zhao,Bo Xiao,Sichuan Key Laboratory of Medical Imaging,Department of Radiology,Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College,Nanchong 637000,Sichuan Province,China | 2012 | World Journal of Radiology2012,4,1: | 13
Large field of view computed laminography with the asymmetric rotational scanning geometry显示文摘X-ray computed laminography(CL)is used in the fields of industrial inspection and medical imaging. It can provide the internal structure three-dimensional(3D)information of a region of the objects nondestructively. It is important to the clinical diagnosis and the quality control of flat objects like printed circuit boards, aircraft wings and satellite solar panels. With the restriction that the imaging region must be within the X-ray beam formed by the X-ray source and the detector, the imaging field of view of CL is limited by the size of detector.A new CL method with an asymmetric rotational cone-beam scanning geometry, called large field of view CL,is presented to overcome the existing disadvantage. It can extend the imaging region when the imaging spatial resolution keeps the same as that of the conventional CL.It can also improve the imaging spatial resolution when the imaging region keeps the same as that of the conventional CL.The asymmetric configuration can be achieved by offsetting the detector from the conventional symmetric configuration. It does not, however, require new detectors and X-ray source nor alter the scanning mechanical system. The filtered back-projection(FBP)reconstruction algorithm and the data truncation smoothing functions have been deduced to reconstruct the images directly from the data acquired with this asymmetric configuration. We performed numerical studies and experiments to demonstrate and validate the proposed approach. Results in these studies and experiments confirm that the proposed method can enlarge the imaging region and improve the spatial resolution. The proposed approach may find applications in the CL system with the rotational scanning geometry. | FU Jian 1,2 ,JIANG BaiHong&LI Bin 1 School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation,Beihang University,Beijing 100191,China 2 Research Center of Digital Radiation Imaging and Biomedical Imaging,Beihang University,Beijing 100191,China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,8: | 12
Transarterial embolization ablation of hepatocellular carcinoma with a lipiodol-ethanol mixture显示文摘AIM: To determine the safety and effectiveness of transarterial embolization ablation (TEA) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with a lipiodol-ethanol mixture. METHODS: Between January 1 and December 31, 2009, 15 patients with HCC (13 men/two women, aged 38-75 years) accepted TEA treatment and were enrolled in this study, including five newly diagnosed patients and 10 with refractory disease. Two months after TEA, angiography and contrast computed tomography (CT) were performed, and responses were assessed using a modified version of Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST version 1.1). The follow-up period was to June 30, 2010. RESULTS: Every new case was treated once. Angiography was performed immediately after TEA, and showed that the tumor-feeding vessels were completely embolized and that lipiodol was densely deposited inside tumors. Two months after treatment, contrast CT showed no enhanced lesions. Alpha fetoprotein levels returned to normal in four patients and markedly decreased in another. mean ± SD survival after treatment was 10.8 ± 4.5 mo. All five patients survived during the follow-up period. Ten patients with refractory disease were treated a total of 14 times. Angiography immediately after TEA showed that blood flow to the tumors was obviously decreased in all cases, and contrast CT showed obvious depositions of lipiodol. Two months after treatment, the tumors had shrunk (6/10) or were stable (3/10). One had progressed after 2 mo and died of tumor rupture 3 mo after TEA. mean ± SD survival after treatment was 8.6 ± 4.3 mo; two patients survived during the follow-up period. Adverse effects included reversible hepatic decompensation, upper abdominal pain, and fever. CONCLUSION: TEA is an effective therapy for patients with HCC and might be more effective than transcather arterial chemoembolization for treating refractory disease. | Yang-Kui Gu, Rong-Guang Luo, Jin-Hua Huang, Qi-Jiao Si Tu, Xiao-Xia Li, Fei Gao,State Key Laboratory of Oncology in Southern China,Department of Medical Imaging and Interventional Radiology,Cancer Center,Sun Yat-sen University,Guangzhou510060,Guangdong Province,China Department of Medical Imaging and Interventional Radiology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nan-Chang University, 17 Yongwaizheng Street, Nanchang 330006, Jiangxi Province, China | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,45: | 9
Multi-spectral image fusion method based on two channels non-separable wavelets显示文摘A construction method of two channels non-separable wavelets filter bank which dilation matrix is [1, 1; 1, ?1] and its application in the fusion of multi-spectral image are presented. Many 4×4 filter banks are designed. The multi-spectral image fusion algorithm based on this kind of wavelet is proposed. Using this filter bank, multi-resolution wavelet decomposition of the intensity of multi-spectral image and panchromatic image is performed, and the two low-frequency components of the intensity and the panchromatic image are merged by using a tradeoff parameter. The experiment results show that this method is good in the preservation of spec-tral quality and high spatial resolution information. Its performance in preserving spectral quality and high spatial information is better than the fusion method based on DWFT and IHS. When the parameter t is closed to 1, the fused image can obtain rich spectral information from the original MS image. The amount of computation reduced to only half of the fusion method based on four channels wavelet trans-form. | LIU Bin1,2 & PENG JiaXiong3 1 School of Mathematics and Computer Science, Hubei University, Wuhan 430062, China 2 Key Laboratory of Applied Mathematics of Hubei Province, Wuhan 430062, China 3 Institute of Image Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074, China | 2008 | Science in China(Series F)2008,51,12: | 9
Face Recognition Based on Support Vector Machine and Nearest Neighbor Classifier显示文摘Support vector machine (SVM), as a novel approach in pattern recognition, has demonstrated a success in face detection and face recognition. In this paper, a face recognition approach based on the SVM classifier with the nearest neighbor classifier (NNC) is proposed. The principal component analysis (PCA) is used to reduce the dimension and extract features. Then one-against-all stratedy is used to train the SVM classifiers. At the testing stage, we propose an algorithm by combining SVM classifier with NNC to improve the correct recognition rate. We conduct the experiment on the Cambridge ORL face database. The result shows that our approach outperforms the standard eigenface approach and some other approaches. | Zhang Yankun & Liu Chongqing Institute of Image Processing and Pattern Recognition, Shanghai Jiao long University, Shanghai 200030 P.R.China | 2003 | Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics2003,14,3: | 8
CT and MR imaging patterns for pancreatic carcinoma invading the extrapancreatic neural plexus (Part Ⅰ): Anatomy, imaging of the extrapancreatic nerve显示文摘Pancreatic carcinoma is an extremely high-grade malignant tumor with fast development and high mortality. The incidence of pancreatic carcinoma continues to increase. Peripancreatic invasion and metastasis are the main characteristics and important prognostic factors in pancreatic carcinoma, especially invasion into the nervous system; pancreatic nerve innervation includes the intrapancreatic and extrapancreatic nerves. A strong grasp of pancreatic nerve innervation may contribute to our understanding of pancreatic pain modalities and the metastatic routes for pancreatic carcinomas. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are helpful techniques for depicting the anatomy of extrapancreatic nerve innervation. The purpose of the present work is to show and describe the anatomy of the extrapancreatic neural plexus and to elucidate its characteristics using CT and MRI, drawing on our own previous work and the research findings of others. | Hou-Dong Zuo, Xiao-Ming Zhang, Cheng-Jun Li, Chang-Ping Cai, Qiong-Hui Zhao, Xing-Guo Xie, Bo Xiao, Wei Tang Sichuan Key Laboratory of Medical Imaging, Department of Radiology, Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College, Nanchong 637000, Sichuan Province, China, Department of Anatomy, North Sichuan Medical College, Nanchong 637007, Sichuan Province, China | 2012 | World Journal of Radiology2012,4,2: | 7
Synthetic aperture radar tomography sampling criteria and three-dimensional range migration algorithm with elevation digital spotlighting显示文摘Based on the general geometric model of multi-baseline Synthetic Aperture Radar Tomography (To-moSAR), the three-dimensional (3-D) sampling criteria, the analytic expression of the 3-D Point Spread Function (PSF) and the 3-D resolution are derived in the 3-D wavenumber domain in this paper. Considering the relationship between the observation geometry and the size of illuminated scenario, a 3-D Range Migration Algorithm with Elevation Digital Spotlighting (RMA-EDS) is proposed. With this algo-rithm 3-D images of the area of interest can be directly and accurately reconstructed in the 3-D space avoiding the complex operations of 3-D geometric correction. Finally, theoretical analyses and simulation results are presented to demonstrate the shift-varying property of the 3-D PSF and the spatial-varying property of the 3-D resolution and to demonstrate the validity of the 3-D RMA-EDS. | TAN WeiXian1,2,3?, HONG Wen1,2, WANG YanPing1,2, LIN Yun1,2,3 & WU YiRong1,2 1 State Key Laboratory of Microwave Imaging Technology, Beijing 100190, China 2 Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, China 3 Graduate School, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, China | 2009 | Science in China(Series F)2009,52,1: | 6
Treatment of malignant digestive tract obstruction by combined intraluminal stent installation and intra-arterial drug infusion显示文摘AIM To study the palliative treatment of malignant obstrution of digestive tract with placement of intraluminal stent combined with intra-arterial infusion of chemotherapeutic drugs.METHODS A total of 281 cases of digestive tract malignant obstruction were given per oral (esophagus, stomach, duodenum and jejunum), per anal (colon and rectum ) and percutaneous transhepatic ( biliary )installation of metallic stent. Among them, 205 cases received drug infusion by cannulation of tumor supplying artery with Seldingers technique.RESULTS Altogether 350 stents were installed in 281 cases, obstructive symptoms were relieved or ameliorated after installation. Occurrence of restenotic obstruction was 8 - 43 weeks among those with intraarterial drug infusion, which was later than 4 - 26 weeks in the group with only stent installation. The average survival time of the former group was 43 (3 - 105) weeks, which was significantly longer than 15 (3- 24) weeks of the latter group.CONCLUSION Intraluminal placement of stent combined with intra-arterial infusion chemotherapy is one of the effective palliative therapies for malignant obstruction of the digestive tract with symptomatic as well as etiological treatment. | Ai-Wu Mao Zhong-Du Gao Jia-Yu Xu Ren-Jie Yang Xiang-Seng Xiao Ting-Hui Jiang Wei-Jun Jiang Department of Interventional Radiology,Shanghai S.T,Luke’s Hospital,768 Yu Yuan Road,Shanghai 200050,ChinaDepartment of Gastroenterology Rui Jin Hospital,Shanghai Second Medical University,Departrnent of Tumor Hospital,Beijing Medical UniversityDepartment of Imaging Chang Zheng Hospital,Shanghai Second Military Medical University | 2001 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2001,7,4: | 6
MICROSTRUCTURAL STABILITY OF LAMELLAR TiAl BASED ALLOYS AT HIGH TEMPERATURES显示文摘The microstructural stability of lamellar TiAl base alloys at high temperatures was studied by conventional and high resolution transmission electron microscopy. The influence of substructures on the thermal stability of lamellar structure was emphasized. These substructures produced by thermal mechanical treatments include the interfacial dislocations and ledges, the subgrain boundaries, the impinged T(Q) twins and misorientated lamellar interfaces. The microstructural change of three kinds of lamellar TiAl base alloys containing differents type and densities of substructures were compared during exposure at 800~1 000 ℃. It was found that the existence of such substructures could accelerate the degeneration of lamellar structure, leading to the rapid necking and break up of α 2 plates, the coarsening of γ plates, and the formation of new γ grains. As a result, the lamellar structure with substructures started to degenerate after thermal exposure at 800℃ for 4.5 h. While only slight coarsening was observed at the colony boundaries in the lamellar structure without substructures even after exposure at 900 ℃ for 7 d. | G. L. Chen *, L. C. Zhang *# , and W. J. | 16 | Image Segmentation via Mean Shift and Loopy Belief Propagation显示文摘This paper presents a novel approach that can quickly and effectively partition images based on fully exploiting the spatially coherent property. We propose an algorithm named iterative loopy belief propagation(iLBP) to integrate the homogenous regions and prove its convergence. The image is first segmented by mean shift(MS) algorithm to form over-segmented regions that preserve the desirable edges and spatially coherent parts. The segmented regions are then represented by region adjacent graph(RAG) . Motivated by k-means algorithm, the iLBP algorithm is applied to perform the minimization of the cost function to integrate the over-segmented parts to get the final segmentation result. The image clustering based on the segmented regions instead of the image pixels reduces the number of basic image entities and enhances the image segmentation quality. Comparing the segmentation result with some existing algorithms, the proposed algorithm shows a better performance based on the evaluation criteria of entropy especially on complex scene images. | JIA Jianhua,JIAO Licheng,CHANG Xia Key Laboratory of Intelligent Perception and Image Understanding of Ministry of Education of China/Institute of Intelligent Information Processing,Xidian University,Xi’an 710071,Shaanxi,China | 2010 | Wuhan University Journal of Natural Sciences2010,15,1: | 5

Intelligent multi-user detection using an artificial immune system显示文摘Artificial immune systems (AIS) are a kind of new computational intelligence methods which draw inspiration from the human immune system. In this study, we introduce an AIS-based optimization algorithm, called clonal selection algorithm, to solve the multi-user detection problem in code-division multipleaccess communications system based on the maximum-likelihood decision rule. Through proportional cloning, hypermutation, clonal selection and clonal death, the new method performs a greedy search which reproduces individuals and selects their improved maturated progenies after the affinity maturation process. Theoretical analysis indicates that the clonal selection algorithm is suitable for solving the multi-user detection problem. | 19 | Modeling golden section in plants显示文摘Plants are complex structures, changing their shapes in response to environmental factors such as sunlight, water and neighboring plants. However, some mathematical rules can be found in their growth patterns, one of which is the golden section. The golden section can be observed in branching systems, phyllotaxis, flowers and seeds, and often the spiral arrangement of plant organs. In this study, tree, flower and fruit models have been generated by using the corresponding golden section characteristics, resulting in more natural patterns. Furthermore, the golden section can be found in the bifurcate angles of trees and lobed leaves, extending the golden section theory. | Lanling Zeng,Guozhao Wang Institute of Computer Graphic and Image Processing,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310027,China | 2009 | Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2009,19,2: | 4
| 20 | Enhancement of Extracts from Celastrus orbiculatus on Maturation and Function of Dendritic Cells in vitro and in vivo显示文摘Objective To examine the immunoregulation of Celastrus orbiculatus extracts (COE), a traditional Chinese medicine, on maturation and function of dendritic cells (DCs) in vitro and in vivo. Methods In vitro, after treated with COE in different nontoxic concentrations (0, 10, 20, 40, 80, and 160 μg/mL) for 5 d, the surface immunological molecules and cytokine secretion of mice bone marrow-derived DCs in response to COE were analyzed by flow cytometric analysis (FACS) and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), respectively. In vivo, mouse hepatoma cells (Hepa1-6, 1 × 106) were injected sc and were treated with different dosages of COE (10, 20 or 40 mg/kg/d). Effects on tumor growth were determined by tumor volume and histology analysis after 28 d administration of COE. The relative proportions of mature DCs and CD8+ T cells were measured in mononuclear cells that had been isolated from spleen by FACS. Results COE stimulated IL-2 and IFN-γ secretion of DCs, simultaneously enhanced the maturation of DCs by enhancing immunological molecule (CD40, CD80, CD86, H-2Kb, and I-Ab) expression in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, the chemotactic responses of DCs were significantly higher in COE-treated than untreated DCs, in association with higher chemokine receptor 7 expression. Furthermore, COE increased DCs produce IFN-γ and IL-2 in a dose-dependent manner when the concentration of COE less than 40 μg/mL, decreased DCs produce IL-10 and IL-4 also in a dose-dependent manner. In in vivo studies, COE can not only suppress growth of malignant hepatocellular carcinomas but also stimulate maturation of DCs, associated with strongly enhanced CD8+ CTL responses. Conclusion These data provide new insight into the mechanism of action of COE and indicate that the stimulation of maturation and function of DCs by COE contributes to its immunoregulatory effects. | QIAN Ya-yun1, ZHANG Hua2, YUAN Lin1,3, HOU Ying1, LIU Wei-wei1, LIU Yan-qing1 1.
