1Modeling spatio-temporal distribution of soil moisture by deep learning-based cellular automata model显示文摘Soil moisture content (SMC) is a key hydrological parameter in agriculture,meteorology and climate change,and understanding of spatio-temporal distributions of SMC in farmlands is important to address the precise irrigation scheduling.However,the hybrid interaction of static and dynamic environmental parameters makes it particularly difficult to accurately and reliably model the distribution of SMC.At present,deep learning wins numerous contests in machine learning and hence deep belief network (DBN) ,a breakthrough in deep learning is trained to extract the transition functions for the simulation of the cell state changes.In this study,we used a novel macroscopic cellular automata (MCA) model by combining DBN to predict the SMC over an irrigated corn field (an area of 22 km^2) in the Zhangye oasis,Northwest China.Static and dynamic environmental variables were prepared with regard to the complex hydrological processes.The widely used neural network,multi-layer perceptron (MLP) ,was utilized for comparison to DBN.The hybrid models (MLP-MCA and DBN-MCA) were calibrated and validated on SMC data within four months,i.e.June to September 2012,which were automatically observed by a wireless sensor network (WSN) .Compared with MLP-MCA,the DBN-MCA model led to a decrease in root mean squared error (RMSE) by 18%.Thus,the differences of prediction errors increased due to the propagating errors of variables,difficulties of knowing soil properties and recording irrigation amount in practice.The sequential Gaussian simulation (s Gs) was performed to assess the uncertainty of soil moisture estimations.Calculated with a threshold of SMC for each grid cell,the local uncertainty of simulated results in the post processing suggested that the probability of SMC less than 25% will be difference in different areas at different time periods.The current results showed that the DBN-MCA model performs better than the MLP-MCA model,and the DBN-MCA model provides a powerful tool for predicting SMC in highly non-linear forms.Moreover,because modeling soil moisture by using environmental variables is gaining increasing popularity,DBN techniques could contribute a lot to enhancing the calibration of MCA-based SMC estimations and hence provide an alternative approach for SMC monitoring in irrigation systems on the basis of canals.SONG Xiaodong ZHANG Ganlin LIU Feng LI Decheng ZHAO Yuguo YANG Jinling 2016Journal of Arid Land2016,8,5:20
2Research progress of disinfection and disinfection by-products in China显示文摘Disinfection is an indispensable water treatment process for killing harmful pathogens and protecting human health. However, the disinfection has caused significant public concern due to the formation of toxic disinfection by-products(DBPs). Lots of studies on disinfection and DBPs have been performed in the world since 1974. Although related studies in China started in1980 s, a great progress has been achieved during the last three decades. Therefore, this review summarized the main achievements on disinfection and DPBs studies in China, which included:(1) the occurrence of DBPs in water of China,(2) the identification and detection methods of DBPs,(3) the formation mechanisms of DBPs during disinfection process,(4) the toxicological effects and epidemiological surveys of DBPs,(5) the control and management countermeasures of DBPs in water disinfection, and(6) the challenges and chances of DBPs studies in future. 4SOTER-Based Soil Water Erosion Simulation in Hainan Island显示文摘The actual and potential water erosion rates of soils with different land covers in Hainan Island, China,were estimated based on the universal soil loss equation (USLE) and a 1:200 000 Soils and Terrain Digital Database (SOTER) database, from which soil water erosion factors could be extracted. 92.8% of the whole island had a current erosion rate of lower than 500 t km-2 a-1. Soil erosion risk was considered to be high because of its abundant rainfall. Without vegetation cover, the potential soil erosion rate would be extremely high and 90.8% of the island would have a soil erosion rate higher than 2 500 t km-2 a-1. Relative erosion vulnerability of different soil zones, landform types, and lithological regions of the island was compared by introducing a relative erosion hazard parameter α. 6Adaptive Finite Element Modeling of Marine Controlled-Source Electromagnetic Fields in Two-Dimensional General Anisotropic Media显示文摘In this paper, we extend the scope of numerical simulations of marine controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) fields in a particular case of anisotropy (dipping anisotropy) to the general case of anisotropy by using an adaptive finite element approach. In comparison to a dipping anisotropy case, the first order spatial derivatives of the strike-parallel components arise in the partial differential equations for generally anisotropic media, which cause a non-symmetric linear system of equations for finite element modeling. The adaptive finite element method is employed to obtain numerical solutions on a sequence of refined unstructured triangular meshes, which allows for arbitrary model geometries including bathymetry and dipping layers. 7The temporal and spatial distribution of ancient rice in China and its implications显示文摘The relics of ancient rice have been regarded as the most important objective evidence of the origina- tion and spread of rice cultivation.Based on the records of 280 rice relics sites and the rice cropping regionalization as well as the distribution map of paddy soils,the current study compiled the temporal and spatial distribution map of ancient rice distribution in China.The map shows that the distribution of ancient rice is spatially extensive and meantime comparatively concentrated,temporarily covering a long and relatively continuous time-span.The rice relics in the Central China double and single rice cropping regions are among the earliest and the most abundant ones,possessing continuity in time sequence.Combined with the discovery of ancient rice and paddy filed relics,soil micromorphology, pollen combination and element geochemistry,it is suggested that Central China was the origin center of rice cultivation in China.Rice had been spread to the rest part of China in three major waves,also to the East Asian part like Korea and Japan.The temporal and spatial distribution of ancient rice reflects the past environmental change,which is also meaningful to the current rice regionalization and plan- ning as well as food security in China.GONG ZiTong CHEN HongZhao YUAN DaGang ZHAO YuGuo WU YunJin ZHANG GanLin 2007Chinese Science Bulletin2007,52,8:11
8Chinese kangs and building energy consumption显示文摘Chinese kangs are an integrated system for cooking, sleeping and heating in rural Northern China with more than 2000 years history. In 2004 there were 67 million Chinese kangs used by 44 million rural families or 174 million people. Chinese kangs store surplus heat from stove during cooking and re-leases it later for both home heating and localized bed heating. Such a widely used heating system has been rarely studied. Understanding kangs is important for developing new effective home heating systems for better energy efficiency and improving indoor air quality in Northern China. In this paper, we review and present some preliminary results from our field measurement and mathematical mod-eling, and discuss the development of Chinese kangs as related to future energy consumption in rural homes, and building energy consumption in China in general. 9Hydrogen sulfide protects against amyloid beta-peptide induced neuronal injury via attenuating inflammatory responses in a rat model显示文摘Neuroinflammation has been recognized to play a critical role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), which is pathologically characterized by the accumulation of senile plaques containing activated microglia and amyloid β-peptides (Aβ). In the present study, we examined the neuroprotective effects of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) on neuroinflammation in rats with Aβ1-40 hippocampal injection. We found that Aβ-induced rats exhibited a disorder of pyramidal cell layer arrangement, and a decrease of mean pyramidal cell number in the CA1 hippocampal region compared with those in sham operated rats. NaHS (a donor of H2S, 5.6 mg/kg/d, i.p.) treatment for 3 weeks rescued neuronal cell death significantly. Moreover, we found that H2S dramatically suppressed the release of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 in the hippocampus. Consistently, both immunohistochemistry and Western blotting assays showed that H2S inhibited the upregulation of COX-2 and the activation of NF-κB in the hippocampus. 10Land Use-Related Changes in Soils of Hainan Island During the Past Half Century显示文摘During the past half century, the land utilization of Hainan Island has undergone a rapid development,but in the meanwhile, soil degradation occurs. 11A biological safety evaluation on reclaimed water reused as scenic water using a bioassay battery显示文摘An assessment method based on three toxicity tests (algae growth inhibition,daphnia immobilization and larval fish toxicity) was used to screen the biological safety of reclaimed water which was reused as sole replenishment for scenic water system in a park (SOF Park) in northern China.A total of 24 water samples were collected from six sites of water system in the SOF Park in four different seasons.The results indicated that:(1) the reclaimed water directly discharged from a reclamation treatment plant near the SOF Park as influent of park had relatively low biological safety (all samples were ranked as C or D);(2) the biological safety of reclaimed water was improved greatly with the ecological reclamation treatment processes composing of artificial wetland system and followed oxidation pond system;(3) the biological safety of reclaimed water in the main lake of SOF Park kept at a health status during different seasons (all samples were ranked as A);(4) there was some certain correlation (R 2=0.5737) between the sum of toxicity scores and dissolved organic carbon for the studied water samples.It was concluded that the assessment method was reliable to screen the safety of reclaimed water reused as scenic water,and the reclaimed water with further ecological purification processes such as artificial wetland and oxidation pond system can be safely reused as scenic water in park.Dongbin Wei Zhuowei Tan Yuguo Du 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,10:9
12A toxicity-based method for evaluating safety of reclaimed water for environmental reuses显示文摘A large quantity of toxic chemical pollutants possibly remains in reclaimed water due to the limited removal efficiency in traditional reclamation processes. It is not enough to guarantee the safety of reclaimed water using conventional water quality criteria. An integrated assessment method based on toxicity test is necessary to vividly depict the safety of reclaimed water for reuse. A toxicity test battery consisting of lethality, genotoxicity and endocrine disrupting effect was designed to screen the multiple biological effects of residual toxic chemicals in reclaimed water. The toxicity results of reclaimed water were converted into the equivalent concentrations of the corresponding positive reference substances(EQC). Simultaneously, the predicted no-effect concentration(PNEC) of each positive reference substance was obtained by analyzing the species sensitivity distribution(SSD) of toxicity data. An index 'toxicity score' was proposed and valued as 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the ratio of the corresponding EQC to PNEC. For vividly ranking the safety of reclaimed water, an integrated assessment index 'toxicity rank' was proposed, which was classified into A, B, C, or D rank with A being the safest. 13Inflammatory response and insulin signaling alteration induced by PCB77显示文摘A specific mechanism whereby inflammation may contribute to cardiovascular diseases(CVD),insulin resistance(IR) and type II diabetes is the induction of endothelial dysfunction placing the vascular endothelium in a key unifying position for the shared pathogenesis of these diseases.However,the mechanisms by which PCBs induce endothelial cell dysfunction are not clearly understood.In the present study,we used human umbilical vascular endothelial cells(HUVEC) as model,and inflammatory response and insulin signaling alteration induced by PCBs were examined.Results showed that PCB77 induced the expression of proinflammatory cytokines including IL-6 and TNFα and induced U937 adhesion to HUVEC cells consistent with increased NFκB transcription activity.On the other hand,PCB77 blocked insulin-activated Akt signaling pathway,which was restored by pretreatment with TNFα neutralization antibody.In conclusion,PCB77 showed the potential to induce the expression of proinflammatory cytokines including IL-6,which has been shown to be powerful independent risk predictor of CVD.And PCB77 was observed to alter insulin-activated Akt signaling by TNFα secretion for the first time.Jing Wang Xiaowen Lv Yuguo Du 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,7:8
14Association of cystatin C level and cardiovascular prognosis for patients with preexisting coronary heart disease:a meta-analysis显示文摘The association of circulating levels of cystatin C(CysC)and risk of recurrent cardiovascular events in patients with preexisting coronary heart disease are uncertain.To qualitatively and quantitatively address this issue,we performed a random meta-analysis of results from prospective studies on the topic.We searched electronic and printed sources(up to 16 October 2011)using keywords and retrieved articles for seven prospective studies according to the selection criteria.Data were abstracted and meta-analysis was performed using the random-effects model(RevMan 5.0.23 software).The cohorts involved 4,576 patients with preexisting coronary heart disease(CHD)and normal or mild chronic kidney disease,and follow-up ranged from 5.6 to 40.6 months.Highest versus lowest baseline CysC level was significantly associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events(OR 2.30,95%CI 1.80–2.94),all-cause mortality(OR 5.69,95%CI 3.70–8.74),but not with recurrent MI(OR 1.75,95%CI 0.77–4.00).In heterogeneity testing for studies reporting cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality,no significant heterogeneity was found,and exclusion of any single study did not alter the overall finding.For risk of recurrent MI,significant heterogeneity was found among the five trials(v2=13.16,P=0.01,I2=70%)and exclusion of the Taglieri et al.[12]study from the analysis resulted in a rise in relative risk(OR 2.36,95%CI 1.09–5.15).In conclusion,for patients with established CHD,high baseline level of CysC is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events and all-cause death during long-term follow-up.Ruijian Li Panpan Hao Yuguo Chen Yun Zhang 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,5:8

16Toxicity-based assessment of the treatment performance of wastewater treatment and reclamation processes显示文摘The reclamation and reuse of wastewater is one of the possible ways to relieve the serious fresh water resource crisis in China. Efficient reclamation treatment technologies ensure the safe reuse of reclaimed water. In order to screen out and evaluate technologies appropriate for reclamation treatment, a great deal of efforts have been brought to bear. In the present study, a toxicity-based method including a Photobacterium phosphoreum test for acute toxicity and SOS/umu test for genotoxicity, accompanied by the traditional physicochemical parameters DOC (dissolved organic carbon) and UV 254 (absorbance at 254 nm), was used to measure the treatment performance of different reclamation processes, including the anaerobic-anoxic-oxic biological process (A2O) and subsequent physical/chemical reclamation processes (ultrafiltration, ozonation, chlorination). It was found that for the secondary effluent after the A2O process, both the toxicity and physicochemical indices had greatly decreased compared with those of the influent. However, chemical reclamation processes such as ozonation and chlorination could possibly raise toxicity levels again. Fortunately, the toxicity elevation could be avoided by optimizing the ozone dosage and using activated carbon after ozonation. It was noted that by increasing the ozone dosage to 10 mg/L and employing activated carbon with more than 10 min hydraulic retention time, toxicity elevation was controlled. Furthermore, it was shown that pre-ozonation before activated carbon and chlorination played an important role in removing organic compounds and reducing the toxicity formation potential. 17Extracts from Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongoliciplus) and Ezhu(Rhizoma Curcumae Phaeocaulis) inhibit Lewis lung carcinoma cell growth in a xenograft mouse model by impairing mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling, vascular endothelial growth factor prod显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To study the anti-tumor effects of the extracts from Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici)and Ezhu(Rhizoma Curcumae Phaeocaulis) on the growth of Lewis lung carcinoma(LLC) in a xenograft mouse model and to investigate the possible underlying mechanism.METHODS: LLC tumor-bearing C57 BL/6 mice were treated with normal saline, cisplatin(2 mg/kg intraperitoneally every other day), or Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici) and Ezhu(Rhizoma Curcumae Phaeocaulis)(1∶1, 2∶1, or 3∶1 ratio;5, 8, or 11 g/kg crude drug intragastrically every day) for 15 d.Body weights and tumor volumes were measured every other day. Tumors were excised on day 15 and analyzed. Tumor microvessel density(MVD)was assessed by immunohistochemical staining of CD34;and expression of vascular endothelial cell growth factor(VEGF), the mitogen-activated protein kinases p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK), extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1 and 2(ERK1/2), and Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK)and their phosphorylated forms were assessed by Western blotting.RESULTS: Treatment with cisplatin caused a significant loss of body weight compared with controls,whereas Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici) and Ezhu(Rhizoma Curcumae Phaeocaulis) extract combinations had no effect. Extracts from Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici) and Ezhu(Rhizoma Curcumae Phaeocaulis) significantly decreased tumor weight and tumor MVD compared with controls,and at the 3∶1 treatment group had similar efficacy to cisplatin in reducing MVD. Tumors from Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici) and Ezhu(Rhizoma Curcumae Phaeocaulis) treatments also showed decreased p38 MAPK, p-p38 MAPK, ERK1/2, p-ERK1/2,JNK, and p-JNK expression compared with the control group(all P < 0.01). 18Experimental Study on Preparation of Natural Gas Hydrate by Crystallization显示文摘In this paper, the saturated solution crystallization method is proposed to promote the formation of hydrate by means of the known similarities between the hydrate formation process and the crystallization process. In this method,adding the second phase crystals was used to replace the spontaneous formation of hydrate crystal nuclei to form hydrate.The effects of saturated Na_2SO_4, MgSO_4, NH_4HCO_3 and CuSO_4 solutions on the formation rates of natural gas hydrate and gas storage capacity were investigated. The results showed that the saturated solution had an influence on the hydrate formation process. Under the given experimental conditions, the saturated Na_2SO_4 solution showed a highest increase in the hydrate formation rate, and the average hydrate formation rate in its presence was 11.8 times higher than that obtained in the deionized water. Moreover, the largest formation rate of gas hydrates observed in the saturated Na_2SO_4 solution was 386 times bigger than that in the deionized water, and the gas storage capacity increased by 10 times. In addition, the average hydrate formation rate in the saturated Mg SO_4 solution was faster than that in water by 20 times. The largest formation rate of gas hydrates in the saturated MgSO_4 solution was 165 times faster than that obtained in the deionized water, and the gas storage capacity increased by 6.2 times. The saturated NH_4HCO_3 and saturated CuSO_4 solutions also influenced the formation process of hydrate. 19Androgen signaling regulates the transcription of anti-Müllerian hormone via synergy with SRY-related protein SOX9A显示文摘Anti-Müllerian hormone(amh) is one of the earliest functional genes expressed during testicular differentiation. It has been suggested that androgen signaling regulates critical genes for the differentiation and development of the testis. To elucidate the exact regulatory mechanisms involved in amh transcription mediated by androgen signaling, androgen signaling was manipulated in zebrafish by cytochrome P45017a1(cyp17a1) knockout and Flutamide treatment. In cyp17a1-deficient and Flutamide-treated testes,up-regulated sry-box9a(sox9a) and down-regulated amh were observed. Moreover, a physical association of the zebrafish androgen receptor(AR) and SOX9 A was found. The interaction between AR and SOX9 A was mediated via the DNA binding domain(DBD) of AR and the transactivation domain(TA) of SOX9 A,and was further enhanced by 5-alpha dihydrotestosterone(DHT), one of the most potent androgens.Intriguingly, together with SOX9 A, androgen signaling synergistically promoted amh transcription,mainly through the proximal 1 kb of the amh promoter region. 20SnO_2 hollow spheres:Polymer bead-templated hydrothermal synthesis and their electrochemical properties for lithium storage显示文摘SnO2 hollow spheres have been synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method using sulfonated polystyrene beads as a template followed by a calcination process in air.X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,and transmission electron microscopy show that the as-obtained SnO2 hollow spheres have a wall thickness of about 50 nm,and consist of nanosized SnO2 particles with a mean diameter of about 15 nm.Electrochemical measurements indicate that the SnO2 hollow spheres exhibit improved electrochemical performance in terms of specific capacity and rate capability in comparison with commercial SnO2 when used as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.The enhanced performance may be attributed to the spherical and hollow structure,as well as the building blocks of SnO2 nanoparticles.YIN YaXia XIN Sen WAN LiJun LI CongJu GUO YuGuo 2012Science China Chemistry2012,55,7:6
