1Effect of Thickness of SnO_2:F over Layer on Certain Physical Properties of ZnO:Al Thin Films for Opto-electronic Applications显示文摘Bilayered FTO/AZO (fluorine doped tin oxide/aluminium doped zinc oxide) films were fabricated using a simple, cost effective spray pyrolysis technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) profiles of bilayered films showed that in the case of lower thickness FTO over layers, (002) plane of ZnO phase had the highest intensity, whereas the predominance was changed in favour of (200) plane of SnO 2 phase for higher thickness FTO over layer. UV studies showed that bilayered FTO/AZO films exhibited a sharp absorption edge as that of AZO film. The decrease in the photoluminescence (PL) peak at 420 nm with increasing FTO over layer thickness indicated a reduction in the zinc vacancies which caused a reduction in the sheet resistance (R sh ). Electrical studies revealed that, eventhough the R sh value (916Ω /□ ) of bilayered FTO (313 nm)/AZO (314 nm) film was found to be higher than that of FTO single layer film (72Ω /□ ), it was much lower than that of AZO single layer film (5661 Ω/ □). 2Memory consolidation during sleep and adult hippocampal neurogenesis显示文摘In anticipation of the massive burden of neurodegenerative disease within super-aged societies, great efforts have been made to utilize neural stem and progenitor cells for regenerative medicine. The capacity of intrinsic neural stem and progenitor cells to regenerate damaged brain tissue remains unclear, due in part to the lack of knowledge about how these newly born neurons integrate into functional circuitry. As sizable integration of adult-born neurons naturally occurs in the dentate gyrus region of the hippocampus, clarifying the mechanisms of this process could provide insights for applying neural stem and progenitor cells in clinical settings. 3Free radical scavenging potential and HPTLC analysis of Indigofera tinctoria linn(Fabaceae)显示文摘The objective of this study was to evaluate the free radical scavenging potential and high performance thin layer chromatography(HPTLC) fingerprinting of Indigofera tinctoria(I. tinctoria). Phytochemical analysis was carried out using standard methods, and free radical scavenging activity of the plant was determined using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazy(DPPH), nitric oxide(NO) and superoxide anion(O_2^-)radical scavenging capacities. HPTLC plate was kept in CAMAG TLC Scanner 3 and the Rf values at fingerprint data were recorded by WINCATS software. Aqueous extract of I. tinctoria reliably showed the total phenolics(267.2±2.42 mg/g), flavonoids(75.43±3.36 mg/g) and antioxidants(349.11±8.04 mg/g). The extract was found to have DPPH(52.08%), NO(23.12%) and O_2^-(26.79%) scavenging activities at the concentration of 250 μg/m L and the results were statistically signi ficant compared with ascorbic acid standard(p<0.05). HPTLC results con firmed that the extract contained several potential active components such as phenols, flavonoids, saponins and terpenoids as the slides revealed multi-colored bands of varying intensities. 4Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquids as an Anticorrosive Agent for Completion Fluid Design显示文摘Most of the onshore and offshore oil and gas reservoirs are facing operational challenges due to high temperature and high salinity, thus requiring advanced techniques for realizing the expected oil recovery with the use of specially designed chemicals. During oil and gas well development, completion fluids, which are solids-free liquids, are used to complete an oil or gas well. Completion fluids consisting of brines are primarily used for oil and gas well stabilization and are corrosive in nature. There is a need to develop additives to be added with completion fluids to address the corrosive nature. The present investigation involved the usage of two imidazolium ionic liquids(ILs) as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in various completion brine(Ca Cl_2, HCOOCs and ZnBr_2) fluids. The study was performed using various techniques, such as, potentiodynamic polarization, weight loss measurements and exposure studies. All the above techniques showed promising results which indicated that the ILs as corrosion inhibitors used were of the mixed-type following both physisorption and chemisorption over the mild steel surface. Among the two inhibitors studied here, 1-octyl-3-methyl imidazolium chloride([OMIM]^+[Cl]^-) with longer alkyl chain exhibited better inhibition efficiency and much lesser corrosion rate than 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium chloride([BMIM]^+[Cl]^-) with a shorter alkyl chain. 8GDF15 promotes prostate cancer bone metastasis and colonization through osteoblastic CCL2 and RANKL activation显示文摘Bone metastases occur in patients with advanced-stage prostate cancer(PCa). The cell-cell interaction between PCa and the bone microenvironment forms a vicious cycle that modulates the bone microenvironment, increases bone deformities, and drives tumor growth in the bone. However, the molecular mechanisms of PCa-mediated modulation of the bone microenvironment are complex and remain poorly defined. Here, we evaluated growth differentiation factor-15(GDF15) function using in vivo preclinical PCa-bone metastasis mouse models and an in vitro bone cell coculture system. Our results suggest that PCa-secreted GDF15 promotes bone metastases and induces bone microarchitectural alterations in a preclinical xenograft model. Mechanistic studies revealed that GDF15 increases osteoblast function and facilitates the growth of PCa in bone by activating osteoclastogenesis through osteoblastic production of CCL2 and RANKL and recruitment of osteomacs. 9Antibiotic resistant Esherichia coli strains from seafood and its susceptibility to seaweed extracts显示文摘Objective:To determine the prevalence and antibiotic resistance of Escherichia coli(E. coli),in seafood obtained from Cuddalore and Parangipettai fish landing centres.Also,to identify the susceptibility of E.coli against predominant seaweeds red alga Kappaphycus alvarezii(K.alvarezii) and brown alga Padina boergessenii(P.boergessenii) extracts as sulfated polysaccharides and polyphenols respectively.Methods:A total of 48 samples(Two stations Cuddalore and Parangipettai,Tamil Nadu,India).Sampling area are fish landing centre where fishes caught from sea and estuary,seafood processing plants(packing and ice packed fishes) and local fish markets(fish samples).After isolation totally 80 strains were analyzed for its antimicrobial resistance and sensitivity against commercially 10 antibiotics.The ampicillin resistant E.coli CE21 was identified through molecular techniques as I6S rDNA sequencing. Two seaweeds K.alvarezii and P.boergessenii were screened lor antibacterial activity against 12 antibiotic resistant E.coli strains.Results:Totally 48 swabbed samples from two different fish handling area were characterized for total bacterial and E.coli count.Mostly,the E.coli strains were isolated from fish local market and seafood processing plants before and after packaging process.In that maximum 56.25%strains were resistant to ampicillin and the minimum 2.5%strains were resistant to chloramphenicol.Therefore,the E.coli CE21 was identified through molecular techniques E.coli(GenBank accession number GU065251),The MIC value for polyphenol extract was slightly less than sulfated polysaccharides.E.coli strain isolated from Parangipettai was considerably increased MIC value that Cuddalore.Conclusions: The polyphenol and sulfated polysaccharides showed promising inhibitory response against all antimicrobial resistant E.coli strains and in particular the inhibitory response of ampicillin resistant E.coli.Subramanian Kumaran Balaraman Deivasiganiani Kumarappan Alagappan Mannikam Sakthivel Rajamani Karthikeyan 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,12:1
