Hepatic abscess induced by foreign body:Case report and literature review显示文摘Hepatic abscess due to perforation of the gastrointestinal tract caused by ingested foreign bodies is uncommon. Pre-operative diagnosis is difficult as patients are often unaware of the foreign body ingestion and symptoms and imagiology are usually non-specific. The authors report a case of 62-year-old woman who was admitted with fever and abdominal pain. Further investigation revealed hepatic abscess, without resolution despite antibiotic therapy. A liver abscess resulting from perforation and intra-hepatic migration of a bone coming from the pilorum was diagnosed by surgery. The literature concerning foreign body-induced perforation of the gastrointestinal tract complicated by liver abscess is reviewed. | Sofia A Santos Sara CF Alberto Elsa Cruz Eduardo Pires Tomás Figueira lia Coimbra José Estevez Mário Oliveira Luís Novais Joo R Deus | 2007 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,9: | 10
Serum MiRNA as Predictive and Prognosis Biomarker in Advanced Stage Non-small Cell Lung Cancer in Indonesia显示文摘Background and objective Lung cancer is the most common cause of death in men in the world and in Indonesia where nonsmall cell carcinoma lung cancer(NSCLC) constitutes 85% of all lung cancer cases. The high mortality rate is due to a poor prognosis and is often diagnosed as having advanced stages. If it is known at the initial stage, the prognosis of lung cancer will be better. Prognosis can be predicted with a marker of prognostic biology, one of which is micro RNA(mi RNA). This study aims to prove that serum mi RNA can be predictive biological marker and prognosis in NSCLC patients in Indonesia. Methods This study was cohort retrospective among 52 subjects in 'Dharmais' Hospital National Cancer Center. Sample was obtained from patients’ serum. Mi R-34, mi R-148, mi R-155 and mi R-222 serum are measured through Real-Time PCR(q PCR). Data were analyzed and interpreted with descriptive analysis, bivariate analysis(Mann Whitney-U for two type of variables or Kruskal-Wallis for more than two type of variables. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to know association between characteristic which are sociodemographic, performance status, clinico-pathology, and survival rate in mi RNA expression. Results From this study, mi RNA expression: mi R-34(46.15%), mi R-148(23.08%), mi R-155(40.38%) and mi R-222(32.69%). Performance status score was statistically significant correlation with mi R-148(P=0.049) and mi R-222(P=0.018). High mi R-34 is associated with multiple M1 b metastatic type(P=0.020), cancer cell type(adenocarcinoma, P=0.009) and adenocarcinoma epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) mutation(negative, P=0.031). There was a significant correlation between the high mi R-222 as a poor prognosis in advanced stage NSCLC with M1 b metastasis(Median Survival/MS: 27 d, P=0.049) and positive EGFR mutations(MS: 74 d, P=0.049) and correlation of mi R-155 with adenocarcinoma(MS: 69 d, P=0.034) and positive EGFR gene mutations(MS: 58 d, P=0.023).Conclusion High mi R-34 expression in advanced stage NSCLC is the predictive factor for multiple metastatic, adenocarcinoma cell type and adenocarcinoma negative EGFR mutation. High expression of mi R-155 and mi R-222 are poor prognoses, especially high mi R-222 found in metastasis M1 b and positive EGFR mutation and mi R-155 found in adenocarcinoma and positive EGFR gene mutations. Further studies regarding correlation between mi RNA and survival rate are needed. | Arif R HANAFI Achmad M JAYUSMAN Serafim ALFASUNU Ahmad H SADEWA Dibyo PRAMONO Didik S HERIYANTO Sofia M HARYANA | 2020 | 中国肺癌杂志2020,23,5: | 6
Sequential light programs shape kale (Brassica napus) sproutappearance and alter metabolic and nutrient content显示文摘Different light wavelengths have specific effects on plant growth and development.Narrow-bandwidth light-emitting diode(LED)lighting may be used to directionally manipulate size, color and metabolites in high-value fruits and vegetables. In this report,Red Russian kale(Brassica napus)seedlings were grown under specific light conditions and analyzed for photomorphogenic responses, pigment accumulation and nutraceutical content. The results showed that this genotype responds predictably to darkness, blue and red light, with suppression of hypocotyl elongation, development of pigments and changes in specific metabolites. However, these seedlings were relatively hypersensitive to far-red light, leading to uncharacteristically short hypocotyls and high pigment accumulation, even after growth under very low fluence rates(,1 mmol m^(-2) s^(-1)).General antioxidant levels and aliphatic glucosinolates are elevated by far-red light treatments.Sequential treatments of darkness, blue light, red light and far-red light were applied throughout sprout development to alter final product quality. These results indicate that sequential treatment with narrow-bandwidth light may be used to affect key economically important traits in high-value crops. | Sofia D Carvalho Kevin M Folta | 2014 | Horticulture Research2014,1,1: | 6
Current role and future perspectives of cardiac rehabilitation in coronary heart disease显示文摘Ischaemic heart disease(IHD)is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. While there have been major advances in this field, these patients are still a higher risk subgroup. As such, strategies to mitigate risk and tailor secondary prevention measures are of the utmost relevance.Cardiac rehabilitation(CR),encompassing several domains including exercise training, cardiovascular risk factor optimization, nutritional and psychological assessments,as well as other ancillary interventions has shown to be one of the pillars in the contemporary management of patients with IHD.Indeed,CR is associated with several benefits in this population, ranging from functional capacity to improvements in outcomes.Whilst this, there are still several issues concerning the optimal application of CR which are still not fully ascertained, such as lack of referral and completion,as well as questions related to programme design(particularly among patients with multiple comorbidities). In this review,we aim at presenting a pragmatic overview on the current role of CR in the management of individuals with IHD,while also discussing some of the caveats in the current data,as well as future concepts which could help improve the uptake and personalization of this pivotal time-tested intervention. | Eduardo M Vilela Ricardo Ladeiras-Lopes Ana Joao Joana Braga Susana Torres Sofia Viamonte José Ribeiro Madalena Teixeira José P Nunes Ricardo Fontes-Carvalho | 2021 | World Journal of Cardiology2021,13,12: | 5
Preliminary experience of helical tomotherapy for locally advanced pancreatic cancer显示文摘Radiotherapy for locally advanced pancreatic cancer is technically difficult and frequently associated with high-grade digestive toxicity.Helical tomotherapy(HT)is a new irradiation modality that combines megavoltage computed tomography imaging for patient positioning with intensity-modulated fan-beam radiotherapy. Its recent availability opens new fields of exploration for pancreatic radiotherapy as a result of its ability to tailor very well-defined dose distributions around the target volumes. Here,we report the use of HT in two patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer. Doses to the bowel, kidneys and liver were reduced significantly, which allowed for excellent treatment tolerance without any high-grade adverse effects in either patient. | Cyrus Chargari Francois Campana Philippe Beuzeboc Sofia Zefkili Youlia M Kirova | 2009 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,35: | 5
Could helical tomotherapy do whole brain radiotherapy and radiosurgery?显示文摘Whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) remains the standard management of breast cancer patients with brain metastases, allowing for symptomatic improvement and good local control in most patients. However, its results remain suboptimal in terms of both efficacy and toxicity. In highly selected breast cancer patients, stereotaxic radiotherapy demonstrates a very good local control with a low toxicity. With the purpose of improving the efficacy/toxicity ratio, we report the association of integrated boost with WBRT in a breast cancer patient with brain metastases. Two and a half years after completion of helical tomotherapy (HT), the patient experienced clinical and radiological complete remission of her brain disease. No delayed toxicity occurred and the patient kept her hair without need of radiosurgical procedure. The HT provided a high dosimetric homogeneity, delivering integrated radiation boosts, and avoiding critical structures involved in long-term neurological toxicity. Further assessment is required and recruitment of breast cancer patients into clinical trials is encouraged. | Youlia M Kirova Cyrus Chargari Sofia Zefkili Franois Campana | 2010 | World Journal of Radiology2010,2,4: | 5
ABO incompatibility in renal transplantation显示文摘ABO blood group incompatibility(ABO-I)was historically considered an absolute contraindication to kidney transplantation due to the significant risk of acute antibody-mediated rejection and early graft loss.Nevertheless, the urge to minimize the gap between the candidates’number on the waitlist for kidney transplants and the available kidney donors encourage investigation into finding ways to use organs from ABO-I kidney donors, especially in the era of using more potent immunosuppression therapies. This review aims to discuss a general overview of ABO-I kidney transplantation and the different protocols adopted by some transplant centers to meaningfully overcome this barrier. | Mahmoud Mohamed Tara Sweeney Duaa Alkhader Mahmoud Nassar Ahmed Alqassieh Sofia Lakhdar Nso Nso Tibor Fulop Ahmed Daoud Karim M Soliman | 2021 | World Journal of Transplantation2021,11,9: | 2
CITED2 and the modulation of the hypoxic response in cancer显示文摘CITED2(CBP/p300-interacting transactivator with Glu/Asp-rich C-terminal domain,2)is a ubiquitously expressed protein exhibiting a high affinity for the CH1 domain of the transcriptional co-activators CBP/p300,for which it competes with hypoxia-inducible factors(HIFs).CITED2 is particularly efficient in the inhibition of HIF-1α-dependent transcription in different contexts, ranging from organ development and metabolic homeostasis to tissue regeneration and immunity, being also potentially involved in various other physiological processes. In addition,CITED2 plays an important role in inhibiting HIF in some diseases, including kidney and heart diseases and type 2-diabetes.In the particular case of cancer,CITED2 either functions by promoting or suppressing cancer development depending on the context and type of tumors. For instance,CITED2 overexpression promotes breast and prostate cancers,as well as acute myeloid leukemia, while its expression is downregulated to sustain colorectal cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition, the role of CITED2 in the maintenance of cancer stem cells reveals its potential as a target in non-small cell lung carcinoma and acute myeloid leukemia, for example. But besides the wide body of evidence linking both CITED2 and HIF signaling to carcinogenesis, little data is available regarding CITED2 role as a negative regulator of HIF-1αspecifically in cancer. Therefore, comprehensive studies exploring further the interactions of these two important mediators in cancer-specific models are sorely needed and this can potentially lead to the development of novel targeted therapies. | Mónica T Fernandes Sofia M Calado Leonardo Mendes-Silva JoséBraganca | 2020 | World Journal of Clinical Oncology2020,11,5: | 2
