1Full-scale measurements of dynamic response of suspension bridge subjected to environmental loads using GPS technology显示文摘Nowadays, there are many larger and taller engineering structures than in the past. These structures are commonly designed to be more flexible. Thus, they are sensitive to severe wind gust and earthquake tremor. For the dynamic response prediction, finite element (FE) modal updating and structural health monitoring, the dynamic characteristics of a structure are becoming increasingly important. The aim of this paper is to show an emerging tool-the real time kinematic (RTK) global positioning system (GPS), which is used to measure and monitor the low-frequency vibration of Dalian BeiDa Bridge, a medium span suspension bridge. The modal analysis is firstly performed on the developed three-dimensional FE model according to the original blue prints of the bridge to provide the analytical frequencies and mode shapes. The field ambient vibration tests using the accelerometers on the bridge deck are conducted just prior to the use of the GPS system in order to validate the FE model. And then, the calibration test is done to assess the dynamic displacement measurement accuracy of the GPS in three orthogonal directions. The GPS signal properties, such as the amplitude, standard deviations (STD), power spectral density (PSD), and probability density functions (PDF), are studied in details. After that, a structural health monitoring system based on the GPS is devised and installed on the bridge to provide real-time measurement of deck movement. The output-only modal parameter identification is carried out by using the Periodogram method to investigate the responses of the bridge. The result shows that the spectral densities of the displacements measured by the GPS correspond well with the results by the FEM analysis and the accelerometer vibration test. It is concluded that the GPS method is reliable and useful to clarify the ambient vibration response behaviors of the flexible structures. 2Recent research and applications of GPS based technology for bridge health monitoring显示文摘Today,long-span bridges are being designed to be more flexible and to resist extensive impacts from changes in temperature,severe wind gusts and earthquake tremors. Structural responses (especially displacement) of bridge structures are becoming increasingly important for the finite element (FE) modal updating,structural response prediction and safety evaluation. Methods of global displacement sensing were developed for these needs. This paper presents an overview of current research and development activities in the field of bridge health monitoring using the global positioning system (GPS). The GPS monitoring technology and its accuracy assessment method are also briefly described. 3Quick image-processing method of UAV without control points data in earthquake disaster area显示文摘The methods of unmanned aerial vehicles images splicing rapidly and rectifying without control points data, only using auxiliary data recorded by unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system, were researched. Two algorithms were proposed, including UAV images auto- splicing rapidly after image blocking and UAV images rectifying based on pseudo center points of auxiliary data. When SIFT algorithm for UAV images splicing is applied, the accuracy is very high, but the efficiency is very low. The splicing efficiency is improved greatly based on SIFT algorithm after image blocking. 4Comparison of sensible and latent heat fluxes during the transition season over the western Tibetan Plateau from reanalysis datasets显示文摘The sensible and latent heat fluxes during the transition season over the western Tibetan Plateau from the NCEP-1 (NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis 1), AR-Ⅱ (NCEP-DOE Reanalysis 2) and ERA40 reanalysis datasets were compared and analyzed. The results show that the phase change in soil moisture has a significant effect on the sensible and latent heat fluxes over the western Tibetan Plateau (TP) due to the freezing-thawing processes during the transition from the dry to the wet period. The uncertainties in the sensible and latent heat fluxes over the western TP are quite high in the reanalysis data, and depend largely on the success of the soil moisture simulations in the models. 5Policies, Actions and Effects for China's Forestry Response to Global Climate Change显示文摘Climate change is a great concern of various countries, the public and science community, and forest plays an important role in mitigating climate change. The paper made a comprehensive analysis regarding the policy selections of China to promote forestry response to the global climate change, and elaborated the concrete actions and achievements in this regard. Policy selections include: 1) Reinforce tree planting and afforestation, increase the forested area and enhance the capacity of carbon sequestration; 2) Improve forest management and the quality of existing stands, and improve the carbon sequestration services provided by forest ecosystem; 3) Strengthen the soil protection on wetland and forestland, and exert the potentials of carbon sequestration; 4) Boost the nature protection, and conserve the biodiversity; 5) Vigorously exploit forestry bio-energy, and reduce the GHG emission; 6) Enhance the prevention and control of forest fires, diseases and pests as well as of illegal expropriation of forest land, and effectively control the GHG emission; 7) Appropriately increase the use of timber, further improve the utilization rate of timber, extend the use life-span of timber and strengthen the carbon-storing function of timber products; 8) Actively implement forestry programs for carbon sequestration and widen the financing channels for forestry development and carbon sequestration. Meanwhile, with the concrete actions in forestry response to climate change, e.g. setting up a specialized agency responsible for the response to climate change, establishing Asian-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation, launching the national evaluation of preferential development areas for forestry CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects, initiating the pilot projects for Afforestation and Reforestation Project under the CDM, and creating and operating China Green Carbon Fund, China has made great achievements in her response to climate change. 6Spatial patterns of ecosystem carbon residence time in Chinese forests显示文摘Capacity of carbon sequestration in forest ecosystem largely depends on the trend of net primary production (NPP) and the length of ecosystem carbon residence time. Retrieving spatial patterns of ecosystem carbon residence time is important and necessary for accurately predicting regional carbon cycles in the future. In this study, a data-model fusion method that combined a process-based regional carbon model (TECO-R) with various ground-based ecosystem observations (NPP, biomass, and soil organic carbon) and auxiliary data sets (NDVI, meteorological data, and maps of vegetation and soil texture) was applied to estimate spatial patterns of ecosystem carbon residence time in Chinese forests at steady state. In the data-model fusion, the genetic algorithm was used to estimate the optimal model parameters related with the ecosystem carbon residence time by minimizing total deviation between modeled and observed values. The results indicated that data-model fusion technology could effectively retrieve model parameters and simulate carbon cycling processes for Chinese forest ecosystems. The estimated carbon residence times were highly heterogenous over China, with most of regions having values between 24 and 70 years. The deciduous needleleaf forest and the evergreen needleleaf forest had the highest averaged carbon residence times (73.8 and 71.3 years, respectively), the mixed forest and the deciduous broadleaf forest had moderate values (38.1 and 37.3 years, respectively), and the evergreen broadleaf forest had the lowest value (31.7 years). 7Spatial patterns in temperature sensitivity of soil respiration in China: Estimation with inverse modeling显示文摘Temperature sensitivity of soil respiration (Q10) is an important parameter in modeling the effects of global warming on ecosystem carbon release. Experimental studies of soil respiration have ubiquitously indicated that Q10 has high spatial heterogeneity. However, most biogeochemical models still use a constant Q10 in projecting future climate change and no spatial pattern of Q10 values at large scales has been derived. In this study, we conducted an inverse modeling analysis to retrieve the spatial pattern of Q10 in China at 8 km spatial resolution by assimilating data of soil organic carbon into a proc-ess-based terrestrial carbon model (CASA model). The results indicate that the optimized Q10 values are spatially heterogeneous and consistent to the values derived from soil respiration observations. The mean Q10 values of different soil types range from 1.09 to 2.38, with the highest value in volcanic soil, and the lowest value in cold brown calcic soil. The spatial pattern of Q10 is related to environmental factors, especially precipitation and top soil organic carbon content. 8Key technology of mine underground mobile positioning based on LiDAR and coded sequence pattern显示文摘Technologies of underground mobile positioning were proposed based on LiDAR data and coded sequence pattern landmarks for mine shafts and tunnels environment to meet the needs of fast and accurate positioning and navigation of equipments in the mine underground without satellite navigation signals. A coded sequence pattern was employed for automatic matching of 3D scans. The methods of SIFT feature, Otsu segmentation and fast hough transformation were described for the identification, positioning and interpretation of the coded sequence patterns, respectively. The POSIT model was presented for speeding up computation of the translation and rotation parameters of LiDAR point data, so as to achieve automatic 3D mapping of mine shafts and tunnels. The moving positioning experiment was applied to evaluating the accuracy of proposed pose estimation method from LiDAR scans and coded sequence pattern landmarks acquired in an indoor environment. 9Wind-resistant studies on tall buildings and structures显示文摘This paper introduces some aspects of wind-resistant studies of our research team on tall buildings and structures. Wind tunnel tests were carried out on 27 typical tall building models by using wind pressure scanning and HFFB techniques. The characteristics of wind pressures and forces acting on these buildings were analyzed. Some results have been adopted in a Shanghai code for structural design of steel tall buildings. Interference effects on wind forces and wind pressures among two and three tall buildings were experimentally investigated with about 10000 testing conditions. Regression analyses of the interference factors under different parameter conditions were made and the main regression formulas are presented. Theoretical study on equivalent static wind loads of tall buildings and structures are then introduced. Especially,a new concept of 'mode coupling factor' and a modified SRSS method for wind response and equivalent static wind load of complicated tall buildings and structures with consideration of multi mode contributions and their coupling effects are presented. 10Homogenization-based multi-scale damage theory显示文摘The research of modern mechanics reveals that the damage and failure of structures should be considered on different scales. The present paper is dedicated to establishing the multi-scale damage theory for the nonlinear structural analysis. Starting from the asymptotic expansion based homogenization theory, the multi-scale energy integration is proposed to bridge the gap between the micro and macro scales. By recalling the Helmholtz free energy based damage definition, the damage variable is represented by the multi-scale energy integration. Hence the damage evolution could be numerically simulated on the basis of the unit cell analysis rather than the experimental data identification. Finally the framework of the multi-scale damage theory is established by transforming the multi-scale damage evolution into the conventional continuum damage mechanics.
