| 8 | Robust Adaptive Gain Higher Order Sliding Mode Observer Based Control-constrained Nonlinear Model Predictive Control for Spacecraft Formation Flying显示文摘This work deals with the development of a decentralized optimal control algorithm, along with a robust observer,for the relative motion control of spacecraft in leader-follower based formation. An adaptive gain higher order sliding mode observer has been proposed to estimate the velocity as well as unmeasured disturbances from the noisy position measurements.A differentiator structure containing the Lipschitz constant and Lebesgue measurable control input, is utilized for obtaining the estimates. Adaptive tuning algorithms are derived based on Lyapunov stability theory, for updating the observer gains,which will give enough flexibility in the choice of initial estimates.Moreover, it may help to cope with unexpected state jerks. The trajectory tracking problem is formulated as a finite horizon optimal control problem, which is solved online. The control constraints are incorporated by using a nonquadratic performance functional. An adaptive update law has been derived for tuning the step size in the optimization algorithm, which may help to improve the convergence speed. Moreover, it is an attractive alternative to the heuristic choice of step size for diverse operating conditions. The disturbance as well as state estimates from the higher order sliding mode observer are utilized by the plant output prediction model, which will improve the overall performance of the controller. The nonlinear dynamics defined in leader fixed Euler-Hill frame has been considered for the present work and the reference trajectories are generated using Hill-Clohessy-Wiltshire equations of unperturbed motion. | 9 | CO_2 permeability of fractured coal subject to confining pressures and elevated temperature: Experiments and modeling显示文摘The CO_2 permeability of fractured coal is of great significance to both coalbed gas extraction and CO_2 storage in coal seams, but the effects of high confining pressure, high injection pressure and elevated temperature on the CO_2 permeability of fractured coal with different fracture extents have not been investigated thoroughly. In this paper, the CO_2 permeability of fractured coals sampled from a Pingdingshan coal mine in China and artificially fractured to a certain extent is investigated through undrained triaxial tests. The CO_2 permeability is measured under the confining pressure with a range of 10–25 MPa, injection pressure with a range of 6–12 MPa and elevated temperature with a range of 25–70°C. A mechanistic model is then proposed to characterize the CO_2 permeability of the fractured coals. The effects of thermal expansion, temperature-induced reduction of adsorption capacity, and thermal micro-cracking on the CO_2 permeability are explored. The test results show that the CO_2 permeability of naturally fractured coal saliently increases with increasing injection pressure. The increase of confining pressure reduces the permeability of both naturally fractured coal and secondarily fractured coal. It is also observed that initial fracturing by external loads can enhance the permeability, but further fracturing reduces the permeability. The CO_2 permeability decreases with the elevation of temperature if the temperature is lower than 44°C, but the permeability increases with temperature once the temperature is beyond 44°C. | 13 | Effect of sample size on the fluid flow through a single fractured granitoid显示文摘Most of deep geological engineered structures,such as rock caverns,nuclear waste disposal repositories,metro rail tunnels,multi-layer underground parking,are constructed within hard crystalline rocks because of their high quality and low matrix permeability.In such rocks,fluid flows mainly through fractures.Quantification of fractures along with the behavior of the fluid flow through them,at different scales,becomes quite important.Earlier studies have revealed the influence of sample size on the confining stress-permeability relationship and it has been demonstrated that permeability of the fractured rock mass decreases with an increase in sample size.However,most of the researchers have employed numerical simulations to model fluid flow through the fracture/fracture network,or laboratory investigations on intact rock samples with diameter ranging between 38 mm and 45 cm and the diameter-to-length ratio of 1:2 using different experimental methods.Also,the confining stress,σ_3,has been considered to be less than 30 MPa and the effect of fracture roughness has been ignored.In the present study,an extension of the previous studies on 'laboratory simulation of flow through single fractured granite' was conducted,in which consistent fluid flow experiments were performed on cylindrical samples of granitoids of two different sizes(38 mm and 54 mm in diameters),containing a 'rough walled single fracture'.These experiments were performed under varied confining pressure(σ_3=5-40 MPa),fluid pressure(f_p ≤25 MPa),and fracture roughness.The results indicate that a nonlinear relationship exists between the discharge,Q,and the effective confining pressure,σ_(eff),and Q decreases with an increase in σ_(eff).Also,the effects of sample size and fracture roughness do not persist when σ_(eff)≥ 20 MPa.It is expected that such a study will be quite useful in correlating and extrapolating the laboratory scale investigations to in-situ scale and further improving theoretical/numerical models associated with fluid flow through rock masses. | Kunal Kumar Singh Devendra Narain Singh Ranjith Pathegama Gamage | 2016 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,3: | 5 |

| 17 | Prediction of preferential fluid flow in porous structures based on topological network models: Algorithm and experimental validation显示文摘The understanding and prediction of preferential fluid flow in porous media have attracted considerable attention in various engineering fields because of the implications of such flows in leading to a non-equilibrium fluid flow in the subsurface. In this study, a novel algorithm is proposed to predict preferential flow paths based on the topologically equivalent network of a porous structure and the flow resistance of flow paths. The equivalent flow network was constructed using Poiseuille's law and the maximal inscribed sphere algorithm. The flow resistance of each path was then determined based on Darcy's law. It was determined that fluid tends to follow paths with lower flow resistance. A computer program was developed and applied to an actual porous structure. To validate the algorithm and program, we tested and recorded two-dimensional(2 D) water flow using an ablated Perspex sheet featuring the same porous structure investigated using the analytical calculations.
