Comparison of the standard Euler-Euler and hybrid Euler-Lagrange approaches for modeling particle transport in a pilot-scale circulating fluidized bed显示文摘Particle transport phenomena in small-scale circulating fluidized beds(CFB) can be simulated using the Euler-Euler,discrete element method, and Euler-Lagrange approaches. In this work,a hybrid Euler-Lagrange model known as the dense discrete phase model(DDPM),which has common roots with the multiphase particle-in-cell model, was applied in simulating particle transport within a mid-sized experimental CFB facility.Implementation of the DDPM into the commercial ANSYS Fluent CFD package is relatively young in comparison with the granular Eulerian model. For that reason, validation of the DDPM approach against experimental data is still required and is addressed in this paper.Additional difficulties encountered in modeling fluidization processes are connected with long calculation times. To reduce times, the complete boiler models are simplified to include just the combustion chamber.Such simplifications introduce errors in the predicted solid distribution in the boiler. To investigate the consequences of model reduction, simulations were made using the simplified and complete pilot geometries and compared with experimental data. All simulations were performed using the ANSYSFLUENT 14.0 package.A set of user defined functions were used in the hybrid DDPM and Euler-Euler approaches to recirculate solid particles. | Wojciech P.Adamczyk Adam Klimanek Ryszard A.Biaecki Gabriel Wecel Pawe Kozolub Tomasz Czakiert | 2014 | Particuology2014,12,4: | 13

Heat induces adenosine triphosphate release from mast cells in vitro:a putative mechanism for moxibustion显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To investigate the role of adenosine triphosphate(ATP) purinergic signaling in mast cells(MCs) modulated by heat to further understand the molecular mechanisms of moxibustion.METHODS:Skin temperatures induced by monkshood cake moxibustion were evaluated by measuring the Neiguan acupoint(PC 6) from 31 participants with a digital thermocouple thermometer.Temperatures of 43 ℃ and 52 ℃ were applied to cultured human leukemia mast cell line HMC-1 in vitro.Calcium fluorescence was applied to detect intracellular Ca^(2+)([Ca^(2+)]_i).Extracellular ATP contents were measured by luciferin-luciferase assay.RESULTS:Maximum skin temperatures mostly ranged from 40-45 ℃,but some reached up to50 ℃.Both 43 ℃,and 52 ℃ induced MC degranulation, which was accompanied by an increase in[Ca^(2+)]_i and ATP release.Complexing extracellular Ca^(2+) with 5 mM ethylene glycol-bis(β-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid(EGTA) inhibited the noxious heat-induced elevation of[Ca^(2+)]_i and prevented the enhanced ATP secretion by those cells at 52℃ but not 43 ℃.CONCLUSION:Monkshood cake moxibustion can generate heat sufficient to trigger cellular events of MCs,including degranulation,[Ca^(2+)]_i elevation, and ATP release, suggesting that purinergic signals originating from MCs are possibly the initiating response of acupoints to moxibustion. | Hu Lei Wang Lina Wei Jianzi Ryszard Grygorczyk Shen Xueyong Wolfgang Schwarz | 2015 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2015,35,3: | 12
Modeling of particle transport and combustion phenomena in a large-scale circulating fluidized bed boiler using a hybrid Euler-Lagrange approach显示文摘The constantly developing fluidized combustion technology has become competitive with a conventional pulverized coal(PC) combustion.Circulating fluidized bed(CFB) boilers can be a good alternative to PC boilers due to their robustness and lower sensitivity to the fuel quality. However, appropriate engineering tools that can be used to model and optimize the construction and operating parameters of a CFB boiler still require development. This paper presents the application of a relatively novel hybrid Euler-Lagrange approach to model the dense gas-solid flow combined with a combustion process in a large-scale industrial CFB boiler. In this work, this complex flow has been resolved by applying the ANSYS FLUENT 14.0commercial computational fluid dynamics(CFD) code.To accurately resolve the multiphase flow, the original CFD code has been extended by additional user-defined functions. These functions were used to control the boiler mass load, particle recirculation process(simplified boiler geometry),and interphase hydrodynamic properties. This work was split into two parts. In the first part, which is referred to as pseudo combustion, the combustion process was not directly simulated.Instead, the effect of the chemical reactions was simulated by modifying the density of the continuous phase so that it corresponded to the mean temperature and composition of the flue gases. In this stage, the particle transport was simulated using the standard Euler-Euler and novel hybrid Euler-Lagrange approaches. The obtained results were compared against measured data, and both models were compared to each other. In the second part, the numerical model was enhanced by including the chemistry and physics of combustion. To the best of the authors' knowledge, the use of the hybrid Euler-Lagrange approach to model combustion is a new engineering application of this model. In this work, the combustion process was modeled for air-fuel combustion. The simulation results were compared with experimental data. The performed numerical simulations showed the applicability of the hybrid dense discrete phase model approach to model the combustion process in large-scale industrial CFB boilers. | Wojciech P.Adamczyk Gabriel Wecel Marcin Klajny Pawel Kozolub Adam Klimanek Ryszard A.Bialecki | 2014 | Particuology2014,12,5: | 7
Molecular alterations in gastric cancer with special reference to the early-onset subtype显示文摘Currently, gastric cancer(GC) is one of the most frequently diagnosed neoplasms, with a global burden of 723000 deaths in 2012. It is the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. There are numerous possible factors that stimulate the procarcinogenic activity of important genes. These factors include genetic susceptibility expressed in a singlenucleotide polymorphism, various acquired mutations(chromosomal instability, microsatellite instability, somatic gene mutations, epigenetic alterations) and environmental circumstances(e.g., helicobcter pylori infection, EBV infection, diet, and smoking). Most of the aforementioned pathways overlap, and authors agree that a clear-cut pathway for GC may not exist. Thus, the categorization of carcinogenic events is complicated. Lately, it has been claimed that research on early-onset gastric carcinoma(EOGC) and hereditary GC may contribute towards unravelling some part of the mystery of the GC molecular pattern because young patients are less exposed to environmental carcinogens and because carcinogenesis in this setting may be more dependent on genetic factors. The comparison of various aspects that differ and coexist in EOGCs and conventional GCs might enable scientists to: distinguish which features in the pathway of gastric carcinogenesisare modifiable, discover specific GC markers and identify a specific target. This review provides a summary of the data published thus far concerning the molecular characteristics of GC and highlights the outstanding features of EOGC. | Malgorzata Skierucha Anya NA Milne G Johan A Offerhaus Wojciech P Polkowski Ryszard Maciejewski Robert Sitarz | 2016 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2016,22,8: | 6
Gastroenterostoma after Billroth antrectomy as a premalignant condition显示文摘Gastric stump carcinoma(GSC) following remote gastric surgery is widely recognized as a separate entity within the group of various types of gastric cancer.Gastrectomy is a well established risk factor for the development of GSC at a long time after the initial surgery. Both exoas well as endogenous factors appear to be involved in the etiopathogenesis of GSC,such as achlorhydria, hypergastrinemia and biliary reflux,Epstein-Barr virus and Helicobacter pylori infection, atrophic gastritis, and also some polymorphisms in interleukin-1 and maybe cyclo-oxygenase-2.This review summarizes the literature of GSC,with special reference to reliable early diagnostics. In particular, dysplasia can be considered as a dependable morphological marker. Therefore, close endoscopic surveillance with multiple biopsies of the gastroenterostomy is recommended.Screening starting at 15 years after the initial ulcer surgery can detect tumors at a curable stage. This approach can be ofspecial interest in Eastern European countries, where surgery for benign gastroduodenal ulcers has remained a practice for a much longer time than in Western Europe, and therefore GSC is found with higher frequency. | Robert Sitarz Ryszard Maciejewski Wojciech P Polkowski G Johan A Offerhaus | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,25: | 5
Influence of Internal Channel Geometry of Gas Turbine Blade on Flow Structure and Heat Transfer显示文摘This paper presents the study of the influence of channel geometry on the flow structure and heat transfer, and also their correlations on all the walls of a radial cooling passage model of a gas turbine blade. The investigations focus on the heat transfer and aerodynamic measurements in the channel, which is an accurate representation of the configuration used in aeroengines. Correlations for the heat transfer coefficient and the pressure drop used in the design of internal cooling passages are often developed from simplified models. It is important to note that real engine passages do not have perfect rectangular cross sections, but include a corner fillets, ribs with fillet radii and a special orientation. Therefore, this work provides detailed fluid flow and heat transfer data for a model of radial cooling geometry which has very realistic features. | Ryszard Szwaba Piotr Kaczynski Janusz Telega Piotr Doerffer | 2017 | Journal of Thermal Science2017,26,6: | 4
Shock Wave Induced Separation Control By Streamwise Vortices显示文摘Control of shock wave and boundary layer interaction finds still a lot of attention. Methods of this interaction control have been especially investigated in recent decade. This research was mostly concerned with flows without separation. However, in many applications shock waves induce separation often leads to strong unsteady effects. In this context it is proposed to use streamwise vortices for the interaction control. The results of experimental investigations are presented here. The very promising results were obtained, meaning that the incipient separation was postponed and the separation size was reduced for the higher Mach numbers. The decrease of the RMS of average shock wave oscillation was also achieved. | Ryszard SZWABA | 2005 | Journal of Thermal Science2005,14,3: | 3

Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interaction on Suction Side of Compressor Profile in Single Passage Test Section显示文摘The shock wave boundary layer interaction on the suction side of transonic compressor blade is one of the main objectives of TFAST project(Transition Location Effect on Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interaction). In order to investigate the flow structure on the suction side of a profile,a design of a generic test section in linear transonic wind tunnel was proposed. The experimental and numerical results for the flow structure investigations are shown for the flow conditions as the existing ones on the suction side of the compressor profile.Near the sidewalls the suction slots are applied for the corner flow structure control. It allows to control the Axial Velocity Density Ratio(AVDR),important parameter for compressor cascade investigations.Numerical results for Explicit Algebraic Reynolds Stress Model with transition modeling are compared with oil flow visualization, schlieren and Pressure Sensitive Paint.Boundary layer transition location is detected by Temperature Sensitive Paint. | Pawel Flaszynski Piotr Doerffer Ryszard Szwaba Piotr Kaczynski Michal Piotrowicz | 2015 | Journal of Thermal Science2015,24,6: | 3
Coherent supercontinuum generation in soft glass photonic crystal fibers显示文摘An overview of the progress on pulse-preserving, coherent, nonlinear fiber-based supercontinuum generation is presented. The context encompasses various wavelength ranges and pump sources, starting with silica photonic crystal fibers pumped with 1.0 μm femtosecond lasers up to chalcogenide step-index and microstructured fibers pumped from optical parametric amplifiers tuned to mid-infrared wavelengths. In particular, silica and silicatebased all-normal dispersion(ANDi) photonic crystal fibers have been demonstrated for pumping with femtosecond lasers operating at 1.56 μm with the recorded spectra covering 0.9–2.3 μm. This matches amplification bands of robust fiber amplifiers and femtosecond lasers. The review therefore focuses specifically on this wavelength range, discussing glass and nonlinear fiber designs, experimental results on supercontinuum generation up to the fundamental limit of oxide glass fiber transmission around 2.8 μm, and various limitations of supercontinuum bandwidth and coherence. Specifically, the role of nonlinear response against the role of dispersion profile shape is analyzed for two different soft glass ANDi fibers pumped at more than 2.0 μm. A spatio-temporal interaction of the fundamental fiber mode with modes propagating in the photonic lattice of the discussed ANDi fibers is shown to have positive effects on the coherence of the supercontinuum at pump pulse durations of 400 fs. Finally, the design and development of graded-index, nanostructured core optical fibers are discussed. In such structures the arbitrary shaping of the core refractive index profile could significantly improve the engineering flexibility of dispersion and effective mode area characteristics, and would be an interesting platform to further study the intermodal interaction mechanisms and their impact on supercontinuum coherence for subpicosecond laser pumped setups. | MARIUSZ KLIMCZAK BARTLOMIEJ SIWICKI ALEXANDER HEIDT RYSZARD BUCZYNSKI | 2017 | Photonics Research2017,5,6: | 3

Decreased serum essential and aromatic amino acids in patients with chronic pancreatitis显示文摘AIM:To investigate the influence of chronic pancreatitis(CP) on serum concentrations of amino acids.METHODS:Thirty-five male patients with alcoholic CP and 21 healthy male subjects were examined.Serum concentrations of amino acids were assayed by ionpair high-performance liquid chromatography with mass detection.RESULTS:Serum glutamate concentration was increased in CP patients as compared to controls. In contrast, serum concentrations of glutamine, histidine, tyrosine, proline, tryptophan and threonine were significantly decreased in CP patients.A trend towards decreasing concentrations of serum lysine, alanine, methionine and valine as well as for total serum amino acids was observed. The sum of aromatic and the sum of essential amino acid concentrations were significantly lower in CP patients than in controls.CONCLUSION:CP leads to decreased serum concentrations of several amino acids, such as essential and aromatic serum amino acids, most likely due to decreased exocrine function. | Krystian Adrych Marian Smoczynski Magdalena Stojek Tomasz Sledzinski Ewa Slominska Elzbieta Goyke Ryszard Tomasz Smolenski Julian Swierczynski | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,35: | 3
Streamwise vortex generation by the rod显示文摘The technology development related to aerodynamics is leading to ever increasing loads of wings, airfoils and turbine and compressor blades. The increase in aerodynamic forces is often leading to flow separation and depreciation of the aerodynamic performance of flying objects or propulsion systems. Flow control methods are required to avoid these negative effects. In the recent two decades the flow control by means of air-jet vortex generators has been also intensively investigated. In this method a streamwise vortex is introduced by an oblique jet. The necessity to supply air by a pipe system may be considered a disadvantage. In order to eliminate this feature, it has been proposed to put out a rod instead of a jet. It has been shown that the application of a rod can introduce the same effect as a jet, as long as the streamwise vortex generation is concerned and appropriate dimensions are used. The present paper focuses on the influence of rod vortex generators on a flow pattern downstream. The results presented here concern experimental and numerical investigations and provide guidelines for the design of a new flow control method dedicated mainly to external flows. | Ryszard SZWABA Pawel FLASZYNSKI Piotr DOERFFER | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2019,32,8: | 2
Influence of Air-Jet Vortex Generator Diameter on Separation Region显示文摘Control of shock wave and boundary layer interaction continues to attract a lot of attention. In recent decades several methods of interaction control have been investigated. The research has mostly concerned solid (vane type) vortex generators and transpiration methods of suction and blowing. This investigation concerns interaction control using air-jets to generate streamwise vortices. The effectiveness of air-jet vortex generators in controlling separation has been proved in a previous research. The present paper focuses on the influence of the vortex generator diameter on the separation region. It presents the results of experimental investigations and provides new guidelines for the design of air-jet vortex generators to obtain more effective separation control. | Ryszard Szwaba | 2013 | Journal of Thermal Science2013,22,4: | 2
Effects of a variety of cutting fluids administered using the minimum quantity lubrication method on the surface grinding process for nickel-based alloys显示文摘This paper presents the characteristics of nickel-based alloys, alongside their division into groups, and describes thefeatures that make such materials difficult to grind. The possibilities of exerting a positive influence upon machining conditions, especially through the proper application of grinding fluids, are briefly presented. Both the precise methodologies for, and theresults of, the experimental tests carried out on flat surfaces are also detailed. The aim of these tests was to determine the influenceof the application of two types of grinding liquid (Ecocut Mikro Plus 82 and Biocut 3000) upon the grinding force values andsurface roughness of the machined workpieces made from three nickel alloys (Nickel 201, INCONEL~ alloy 600, and MONEL^alloy 400). An additional goal of the tests was to determine the influence of grinding wheel structure on the course and results ofthe machining process. The results indicate that the physical and chemical properties of Biocut 3000 enabled the most advanta-geous properties of the machined surface roughness, alongside a simultaneous increase in grinding power, when compared to theresults when applying Ecocut Mikro Plus 82. The results showed an almost inversely proportional dependence upon the specifictangential grinding force Ft' and arithmetic mean deviation of the surface profile Ra values, especially in cases of machining Nickel201 and INCONEL alloy 600. The original traverse grinding methodology used in the tests made it possible to assess the changesof the grinding conditions within the conventionally selected zones. | Ryszard WOJCIK Krzysztof NADOLNY | 2017 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science A(Applied Physics & Engineering)2017,18,9: | 2
The role of degenerative pathways in the development of irreversible consequences after brain ischemia显示文摘Ischemic stroke and irreversible consequences:Ischemic stroke in humans is the second most common cause of death in the world(Mozaffarian et al.,2016).The outcomes after a stroke are often dependent on complications, including motor disorders, depression and dementia(Pluta et al.,2018a),which causes a high risk of re-hospitalization and/or palliative care. This is also the main reason for long-term disability in people after stroke, with up to half of those who survived the stroke will not regain their independence until the end of their lives(Mozaffarian et al.,2016).According to epidemiological forecasts, human ischemic stroke will soon become the dominant cause of death worldwide(Bejot et al.,2016)as well as dementia with the phenotype of Alzheimer’s disease(AD;Kim and Lee 2018).It is suggested that human ischemic stroke and experimental brain ischemia in animals are associated with the possible development of AD neuropathology(Pluta et al.,2018a). | Ryszard Pluta Marzena U?amek-Kozio? | 2019 | Neural Regeneration Research2019,14,6: | 2
