1Utilization of chemical looping strategy in coal gasification processes显示文摘Three chemical looping gasification processes,i.e.Syngas Chemical Looping(SCL) process,Coal Direct Chemical Looping(CDCL) process,and Calcium Looping process(CLP),are being developed at the Ohio State University(OSU).These processes utilize simple reaction schemes to convert carbonaceous fuels into products such as hydrogen,electricity,and synthetic fuels through the transformation of a highly reactive,highly recyclable chemical intermediate.In this paper,these novel chemical looping gasification processes are described and their advantages and potential challenges for commercialization are discussed.Liangshih Fan Shwetha Ramkumar 2008Particuology2008,6,3:34
2Erasure coding for distributed storage: an overview显示文摘In a distributed storage system, code symbols are dispersed across space in nodes or storage units as opposed to time. In settings such as that of a large data center, an important consideration is the efficient repair of a failed node. Efficient repair calls for erasure codes that in the face of node failure,are efficient in terms of minimizing the amount of repair data transferred over the network, the amount of data accessed at a helper node as well as the number of helper nodes contacted. Coding theory has evolved to handle these challenges by introducing two new classes of erasure codes, namely regenerating codes and locally recoverable codes as well as by coming up with novel ways to repair the ubiquitous Reed-Solomon code. 4Characterization of Microstructure, Strength, and Toughness of Dissimilar Weldments of Inconel 625 and Duplex Stainless Steel SAF 2205显示文摘The dissimilar combinations of Inconel 625 and duplex stainless steel SAF 2205 obtained from manual GTA welding process employing ER2209 and ERNi CrMo-3 filler metals have been investigated. Formation of secondary phases at the HAZ of Inconel 625 and grain coarsening at the HAZ of SAF 2205 were witnessed while using these filler wires. The average hardness of ER2209 weldments was found to be greater than ERNi CrMo-3 weld. Tensile fracture was observed at the weld zones for both the fillers. Impact test trials showed brittle mode of fracture on employing ER2209 filler and mixed(ductile–brittle) mode of fracture while using ERNi CrMo-3 filler. 5Evaluation of geochemical behavior and heavy metal distribution of sediments:The case study of the Tirumalairajan river estuary,southeast coast of India显示文摘The purpose of this study was to assess the chemical partitioning of selected heavy metals(Fe,Mn,Cu,Zn,Pb,Cr,Co and Ni) in 10 surface sediments at Tirumalairajan River Estuary in the southeastern coast of India.A five-step sequential extraction technique was used to assess the environmental status of heavy metals.Most of metals were considered to be immobile due to the high availability in the residual fraction of heavy metals.The sediments of Tirumalairajan River estuary had not been polluted by heavy metals,and they didn't pose any high ecological risk.The seasonal variations of heavy metals were slightly higher in summer than in monsoon season.Factor analysis was also carned out to understand the associations of metals in different fractions with sand,silt,clay,organic matter,pH,salinity and other metals.The relationship between the Q-mode and R-mode cluster analyses was useful for identifying the pollution levels in both seasons.It was proved that the enrichment of heavy metals was related with geogenic and anthropogenic sources.The information on total metal concentrations in sediments was not sufficient for assessing the metal behavior in the environment,but the sequential extraction technique was more effective in estimating the environmental impact of contaminated sediments.Senapathi VENKATRAMANAN Sang-yong CHUNG Thirunavukkarasu RAMKUMAR Gopalakrishnan GNANACHANDRASAMY Tae Hyung KIM 2015International Journal of Sediment Research2015,30,1:2

7In vitro evaluation of free radical scavenging activity of Codariocalyx motorius root extract显示文摘Objective:To determine the phenolic content in Codariocalyx motorius root extract and to evaluate its antioxidant properties using various in vitro assay systems.Methods:The antioxidant activity was evaluated based on scavenging of 1,1—diphenyl—2—picrylhydrazyl,hydroxyl radicals,superoxide anions,nitric oxide,hydrogen peroxide,peroxvnilrile,reducing power and by inhibition oi lipid peroxidation which was estimated in terms of thiohurhituric acid reactive substances.Results:The root extract of the Codariocalyx motorius(C.motorius) exhibited potent total antioxidant activity that increased with increasing amount of extract concentration,which was compared with standard drug such as quercetin.butylaled hvdroxvloluene.tocopherol at different concentrations.The different concentrations of the extracts showed inhibition on lipid peroxidation.In addition,the extracts had effective reducing power,free radical scavenging, super oxide anion scavenging,nitric oxide scavenging,lipid peroxidation,and total phenolic content depending on concentration.High correlation between total phenolic contents and scavenging potential of different reactive oxygen species(r^2=0.83 1 -0.978) indicated the polyphenols as the main antioxidants.Conclusions:Codariocalyx motorius(C.motorius) root possess the highly active antioxidant substance which can be used for the treatment of oxidative stress-related diseases.Uma Chidambaram Vanitha Pachamuthu Suganya Natarajan Bhakkiyalakshmi Elango Suriyanarayanan Kunga Mohan Ramkumar 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,3:2

9Early Cenozoic rapid flight enigma of the Indian subcontinent resolved:Roles of topographic top loading and subcrustal erosion显示文摘Intrinsic magmatic processes are considered as critical operators of plate movements.Here we demonstrate the role of extrinsic processes consequent to intrinsic processes as a catalyst for anomalous rapid plate movement.The rapid and accelerated flight of the Indian subcontinent since Deccan volcanism until its collision with Eurasia remains as one of the geological conundrums.Data on seismic tomography,peninsular geomorphology and inferences on continuum of subcrustal structures are utilized to address this enigma.We propose geomorphic isostasy as the mechanism that has driven this fastest drift ever recorded in geological history.It was initiated by sudden instability after the Deccan volcanism and resultant extensive accumulation of lava pile over continental lithosphere of northern India,northern-eastern tilt due to crustal thickness heterogeneity and subcrustal thermal stratification.The drift was sustained by Carlsberg and Central Indian ridge-push until collision and sediment top loading at northeast thenceforth.These inferences and geomorphic isostasy as a catalytic mechanism necessitate variability of drift rates as integral inputs for any continental scale modeling.Muthuvairavasamy Ramkumar David Menier Manoj Mathew M.Santosh Numair A.Siddiqui 2017Geoscience Frontiers2017,8,1:2
