1Advanced landfill leachate treatment using a two-stage UASB-SBR system at low temperature显示文摘A two-stage upflow anaerobic sludge blanket(UASB) and sequencing batch reactor(SBR) system was introduced to treat landfill leachate for advanced removal of COD and nitrogen at low temperature.In order to improve the total nitrogen(TN) removal efficiency and to reduce the COD requirement for denitrification,the raw leachate with recycled SBR nitrification supernatant was pumped into the first-stage UASB(UASB1) to achieve simultaneous denitrification and methanogenesis.The results showed that UASB1 played an important role in COD removal and UASB2 and SBR further enhanced the nutrient removal efficiency.When the organic loading rates of UASB1,UASB2 and SBR were 11.95,1.63 and 1.29 kg COD/(m3·day),respectively,the total COD removal efficiency of the whole system reached 96.7%.The SBR acted as the real undertaker for NH4+-N removal due to aerobic nitrification.The system obtained about 99.7% of NH4+-N removal efficiency at relatively low temperature(14.9-10.9°C).More than 98.3% TN was removed through complete denitrification in UASB1 and SBR.In addition,temperature had a significant effiect on the rates of nitrification and denitrification rather than the removal of TN and NH4+-N once the complete nitrification and denitrification were achieved.Hongwei Sun,Qing Yang,Yongzhen Peng,Xiaoning Shi,Shuying Wang,Shujun Zhang Key Laboratory of Beijing Water Quality Science and Water Envirocnnment Recovery Engineering,Beijing University of Technology,Beijing 100124,China 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,4:26
2Changes in cropland topsoil organic carbon with different fertilizations under long-term agro-ecosystem experiments across China's Mainland显示文摘Topsoil soil organic carbon(SOC) data were collected from long-term Chinese agro-ecosystem experiments presented in 76 reports with measurements over 1977 and 2006.The data set comprised 481 observations(135 rice paddies and 346 dry croplands) of SOC under different fertilization schemes at 70 experimental sites(28 rice paddies and 42 dry croplands).The data set covered 16 dominant soil types found in croplands across 23 provinces of China's Mainland.The fertilization schemes were grouped into six categories:N(inorganic nitrogen fertilizer only),NP(compound inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers),NPK(compound inorganic nitrogen,phosphorus and potassium fertilizers),O(organic fertilizers only),OF(combined inorganic/organic fertilization) and Others(other unbalanced fertilizations such as P only,K only,P plus K and N plus K).Relative change in SOC content was analyzed,and rice paddies and dry croplands soils were compared.There was an overall temporal increase in topsoil SOC content,and relative annual change(RAC,g kg-1 yr-1) ranged -0.14-0.60(0.13 on average) for dry cropland soils and -0.12-0.70(0.19 on average) for rice paddies.SOC content increase was higher in rice paddies than in dry croplands.SOC increased across experimental sites,but was higher under organic fertilization and combined organic/inorganic fertilizations than chemical fertilizations.SOC increase was higher under balanced chemical fertilizations with compound N,P and K fertilizers than unbalanced fertilizations such as N only,N plus P,and N plus K.The effects of specific rational fertilizations on SOC increase persisted for 15 years in dry croplands and 20 years in rice paddies,although RAC values decreased generally as the experiment duration increased.Therefore,the extension of rational fertilization in China's croplands may offer a technical option to enhance C sequestration potential and to sustain long-term crop productivity.WANG ChengJi1,PAN GenXing1*,TIAN YouGuo2,LI LianQing1,ZHANG XuHui1 & HAN XiaoJun1 1Institute of Resources,Ecosystem and Environment of Agriculture,Nanjing Agricultural University,Nanjing 210095,China 2Center of Soil and Fertilizer Quality Monitoring and Test,Agricultural Ministry of China,Beijing 100026,China 2010Science China(Life Sciences)2010,53,7:24
3Effects of Meat and Phosphate Level on Water-Holding Capacity and Texture of Emulsion-Type Sausage During Storage显示文摘This paper was designed to verify the influence of phosphate on water-holding capacity (WHC) and texture of emulsiontype sausage prepared with pre-rigor meat,ageing meat or frozen meat.Pre-rigor pork,ageing pork and frozen pork were pre-blended with five levels of phosphate and made into emulsion-type sausage.The yield,hardness and total expressible fluid (TEF) were measured with texture profile analysis machine and pressiometer when emulsion-type sausage was produced.Meanwhile,hardness and purge loss (PL) were measured during 30 d storage.As emusion-type sausage made by pre-rigor meat,higher yield and relatively stable hardness could be found.It indicated that increasing of phosphate level caused an alleviatable effects in increasing of hardness when emulsion-type sausage made by pre-rigor meat,but opposite effects made by ageing meat or frozen meat.The distribution of PL of emulsion-type sausage was found to be affected by phosphate addition.Significant decrease of PL could not be obtained by increasing of phosphate level during storage.Pre-rigor meat improved WHC and texture of emulsion-type sausage.Problem of WHC and texture of emulsiontype sausage during storage could not be resolved by single use of phosphate at relatively higher level (3%) of NaCl.WANG Peng,XU Xing-lian and ZHOU Guang-hong Key Laboratory of Meat Processing and Quality Control,Ministry of Education/Nanjing Agricultural University,Nanjing 210095,P.R.China 2009Agricultural Sciences in China2009,8,12:24
4Nitrogen removal via nitrite from municipal landfill leachate显示文摘A system consisting of a two-stage up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB), an anoxic/aerobic (A/O) reactor and a sequencing batch reactor (SBR), was used to treat landfill leachate. During operation, denitrification and methanogenesis took place simultaneously in the first stage UASB, and the effluent chemical oxygen demand (COD) was further removed in the second stage UASB. Then the denitrification of nitrite and nitrate in the returned sludge by using the residual COD was accomplished in the A/O reactor, and ammonia was removed via nitrite in it. Last but not least, the residual ammonia was removed in SBR as well as nitrite and nitrate which were produced by nitrification. The results over 120 d (60 d for phase I and 60 d for phase II) were as follows: when the total nitrogen (TN) concentration of influent leachate was about 2500 mg/L and the ammonia nitrogen concentration was about 2000 mg/L, the shortcut nitrification with 85%-90% nitrite accumulation was achieved stably in the A/O reactor. The TN and ammonia nitrogen removal efficiencies of the system were 98% and 97%, respectively. The residual ammonia, nitrite and nitrate produced during nitrification in the A/O reactor could be washed out almost completely in SBR. 5Sustainable Management of Planted Forests in China: Comprehensive Evaluation, Development Recommendation and Action Framework显示文摘China is one of the largest countries in the world in terms of planted forests area. Planted forests play an important role in soil and water conservation, food source, timber supply and energy security, but there are still many problems waiting for immediate resolution. Based on the current development status of planted forest in China, the paper made an comprehensive analysis for the positive impact and existing problems with regard to planted forests, and then came up with policy recommendations for promoting sustainable management of planted forests, mainly including: 1) to accelerate planted forests development and improve the quality; 2) to strengthen the protection and management, and quicken the development of planted forests; 3) to enhance the scientific planning for planted forests; 4) to reinforce the management for forests harvesting so as to promote the reasonable utilization of planted forests; 5) to perfect the management system for planted forest resources and improve the managerial capacity; 6) to complete related laws and regulations and improve the policy guarantee system; 7) to reinforce the forest tenure reform and establish a sound planted forest land transference system. 7Cloning and expression of two sterol C-24 methyltransferase genes from upland cotton(Gossypium hirsuturm L.)显示文摘Brassinosteroids (BRs) are an important class of plant steroidal hormones that are essential in a wide variety of physiological proc-esses. Two kinds of intermediates,sitosterol and campesterol,play a crucial role in cell elongation,cellulose biosynthesis,and accumula-tion. To illuminate the effects of sitosterol and campesterol on the development of cotton (Gossypium hirsuturm L.) fibers through screening cotton fiber EST database and contigging the candidate ESTs,two key genes GhSMT2-1 and GhSMT2-2 controlling the sitos-terol biosynthesis were cloned from developing fibers of upland cotton cv. Xuzhou 142. The full length of GhSMT2-1 was 1,151 bp,in-cluding an 8 bp 5′-untranslated region (UTR),a 1,086 bp open reading frame (ORF),and a 57 bp 3′-UTR. GhSMT2-1 gene encoded a polypeptide of 361 amino acid residues with a predicted molecular mass of 40 kDa. The full length of GhSMT2-2 was 1,166 bp,including an 18 bp 5′-UTR,a 1,086 bp ORF,and a 62 bp 3′-UTR. GhSMT2-2 gene encoded a polypeptide of 361 amino acid residues with a pre-dicted molecular mass of 40 kDa. The two deduced amino acid sequences had high homology with the SMT2 from Arabidopsis thaliana and Nicotiana tabacum. Furthermore,the typical conserved structures characterized by the sterol C-24 methyltransferase,such as region I (LDVGCGVGGPMRAI),region Ⅱ (IEATCHAP),and region Ⅲ (YEWGWGQSFHF),were present in both deduced proteins. Southern blotting analysis indicated that GhSMT2-1 or GhSMT2-2 was a single copy in upland cotton genome. Quantitative real-time RT-PCR analysis revealed that the highest expression levels of both genes were detected in 10 DPA (day post anthesis) fibers,while the lowest levels were observed in cotyledon and leaves. The expression level of GhSMT2-1 was 10 times higher than that of GhSMT2-2 in all the organs and tissues detected. These results indicate that the homologue of sterol C-24 methyltransferase gene was cloned from upland cotton and both GhSMT2 genes play a crucial role in fiber elongation. 9UV-induced Self-initiated Graft Polymerization of Acrylamide onto Poly(ether ether ketone)显示文摘Photo-grafting of hydrophilic monomer was used to enhance the hydrophilicity of poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) with the aim of extending its applications to biological fields. PEEK sheets were surface modified by grafting of acrylamide(AAm) with ultraviolet(UV) irradiation in the presence or absence of benzophenone(BP). The effects of BP, irradiation time and monomer concentration on the surface wettability of PEEK were investigated. Characteriza tion of modified PEEK using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy-disperse spectrometer(EDS) and water contact angle measurements shows that AAm was successfully grafted on PEEK surface both in presence and absence of BP. With the increase in irradiation time and monomer concentration, contact angles decrease to as low as 30°, demonstrating a significant improvement of surface hydrophilicity. In agreement with the decrease in contact angle, under identical conditions, the nitrogen concentration increases, suggesting the increase in grafting degree of the grafting polymerization. This investigation demonstrates a self-initiation of PEEK due to its BP-like structure in the backbone of the polymer. 11Genetic analysis and molecular mapping of a novel gene for zebra mutation in rice (Oryza sativa L.)显示文摘A novel zebra mutant,zebra-15,derived from the restorer line Jinhui10(Oryza sativa L. ssp. indica) treated by EMS,displayed a distinctive zebra leaf from seedling stage to jointing stage. Its chlorophyll content decreased(55.4%) and the ratio of Chla/Chlb increased(90.2%) significantly in the yellow part of the zebra-15,compared with the wild type. Net photosynthetic rate and fluorescence kinetic parameters showed that the decrease of chlorophyll content significantly influenced the photosynthetic efficiency of the mutant. Genetic analysis of F2 segregation populations derived from the cross of Xinong1A and zebra-15 indicated that the zebra leaf trait is controlled by a single recessive nuclear gene. Ninety-eight out of four hundred and eighty pairs of SSR markers showed the diversity between the Xinong1A and the zebra-15,their F2 population was then used for gene mapping. Zebra-15(Z-15) gene was primarily restricted on the short arm of chromosome 5 by 150 F2 recessive individuals,19.6 cM from marker RM3322 and 6.0 cM from marker RM6082. 15Formation and migration of space charge packet in low density polyethylene显示文摘Pressure wave propagation (PWP) method was utilized to observe the space charges packet-like behavior in sheet samples of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) under the relative low electric field. The experimental results show that space charge packets are always generated at the anode and move across the sample to the cathode regard- less of the polarity of DC voltage.
