1Costimulation of resting B lymphocytes alters the IL-4-activated IRS2 signaling pathway in a STAT6 independent manner: implications for cell survival and proliferation显示文摘IL-4 is an important B cell survival and growth factor. IL-4 induced the tyrosine phosphorylation of IRS2 in resting B lymphocytes and in LPS- or CD40L-activated blasts. Phosphorylated IRS2 coprecipitated with the p85 subunit of PI 3’ kinase in both resting and activated cells. By contrast, association of phosphorylated IRS2 with GRB2 was not detected in resting B cells after IL-4 treatment although both proteins were expressed. However, IL-4 induced association of IRS2 with GRB2 in B cell blasts. The pattern of IL-4- induced recruitment of p85 and GRB2 to IRS2 observed in B cells derived from STAT6 null mice was identical to that observed for normal mice. While IL-4 alone does not induce activation of MEK, a MEKI inhibitor suppressed the IL-4-induced proliferative response of LPS-activated B cell blasts. These results demonstrate that costimulation of splenic B cells alters IL-4-induced signal transduction independent of STAT6 leading to proliferation. 3Oral refeeding in mild acute pancreatitis:An old challenge显示文摘Although the idea that pancreas rest has long been considered as a very relevant topic in acute pancreatitis (AP)therapy,the right time and type of diet to be offered to patients recovering from an acute attack are a great challenge to clinicians who treat this condition.Fortunately,the last decade was noted for several trials looking for the best answer to the question:'when and how to start oral refeeding in AP?'It is well known that 80%of patients present with mild disease characterized by usually uncomplicated clinical course are managed with pancreatic rest through nil per oral;while the use of specific nutritional intervention is an exception.Therefore,mild AP has been the most investigated form of AP and researchers have tried different kind of meals to offer calories and reduce costs by shortening hospitalization time.Usually in mild AP,the oral refeeding is introduced between the first 3 d and 7 d after hospitalization but,the type of diet and patients’tolerance have been scrutinized in detail with mixed results.Although 20%to 25%have pain recurrence requiring nutritional support and greater time of hospitalization,most patients seem to tolerate oral refeeding well.We propose analyzing the most recent investigations of this matter and their conclusions to develop a better understanding of the management of AP.Júlio Maria F Chebli Pedro D Gaburri Liliana A Chebli 2011World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pathophysiology2011,2,6:2
4Effects of feeding yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae), organic selenium and chromium mixed on growth performance and carcass traits of hair lambs显示文摘Yeasts and organic minerals are used in diets to improve health, productive performance and some carcass characteristics of ruminants and non-ruminants. Thirty-two lambs(Pelibuey×Katahdin; BW=(30.55±1.67) kg; n=8) were used in a 56-d feeding experiment to study the effects of different levels of live yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae; yeast), selenium(Se) and chromium(Cr) mixed(Se-Cr), and a mixture of yeast-Se-Cr on growth performance and carcass traits. Animals were stratified by body weight(BW) and randomly assigned to one of four treatments: 1) control group(0.0 g kg–1 yeast); 2) yeast(1.50 g kg–1 dry matter intake(DMI) d–1); 3) Se-Cr premix(1.5 mg kg–1 DMI d–1 for each mineral); and 4) yeast-Se-Cr mixture. There were no treatment effects on final BW; whereas lambs fed Se-Cr or yeast-Se-Cr had higher(P<0.05) DMI than animals supplemented with only yeast. Average daily gain(ADG), gain:feed ratio, chop area, dorsal fat and carcass yield were similar(P>0.05) among treatment groups. In conclusion, supplementation with yeast, Se-Cr mixed or yeast-Se-Cr did not improve ADG, final BW, back fat content and carcass yield of growing of Pelibuey×Katahdin lambs.
