| 1 | Combined Pollution and Pollution Index of Heavy Metals in Red Soil显示文摘A field experiment was conducted to study the effects of Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn and As coexisting in red soilon growth of rice (Oryza sativa L.), mung bean (Vigna rabiata (Linn.) Wilczek), alfalfa (Medicago sativaL.), slash pine (Pinus elliottii Engelm.) and aspen (Populus L.). Results showed that rice, mung bean andalfalfa were significantly innuenced by combined pollution of the heavy metals. The contents of Pb, cd andAs in rice grains greatly exceeded the National Standards for Food Hygiene of China. Heavy metals at ahigh concentration seriously retarded growth of mung bean and alfalfa, but not so obviously with slash pineand aspen. | 3 | Accumulation of Organic Matter in Infertile Red Soils and Its Ecological Importance显示文摘Field experiments on the decomposition of organic materials and the accumulation of organic carbon in infertile red soils were conducted at the Ecological Experimental Station of Red Soil,the Chinese Academy of Sciences,and the potential of CO2 sequestration by redlamation and improving the fertility of these soils was estimated.Results showed that in infertile red soils,the humification coefficinets of organic materials were rather high,ranging from 0.28 to 0.63 with an average of 0.43,which was 41% higher than those in corresponding red soils with medium fertility.THis was mainly attributed to the high clay content.high acidity and low native organic matter content of infertile red soils.Compared to those in corresponding normal red soils,the decomposition rates of organic materials were significantly lower in infertile red soils in the first 2 years,thereafter no significant difference was observed between those in the two kinds of soils.Depending on the kind and amount of organic manure applied,the soil properties and the rotation systems,annual application of organic manure with a rate of 4500 to 9000kgha^-1 increased the organic carbon content in surface 20cm of infertile red soils by 2.1-7.5g kg^-1 with an average of 4.7g kg^-1 within the first 5years.The organic carbon content in infertile red soils which received organic manure annually increased linearly in the first 10 years,thereafter it slowed down,implying that the fertility of the infertile red soils could reach middle or high level in 10 years if the soil was managed properly.It was estimated that through exploitation of wastelands,re-establishment of fuel forests and improvement of soil fertility,soils in red soil region of China could sequester an extra 1.50×10^15 g of atmospheirc CO2. | LI ZHONGPEI CHENG LILI and LIN XINXIONG(Institute of Soil Science, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, P.O. | 4 | On the Huanghai (Yellow) Sea circulation:a review by current measurements显示文摘The Huanghai (Yellow) Sea circulations suggested in the past were constructed mostly based on hydrographic data or simple numerical models, and were not rigorously compered with direct current measurements. Ourpresent understanding of the Huanghai Sea circulation is still very poor and superficial. To evaluate our present knowledge about the circulation and to sketch a more realistic circulation pattern, the previous studies on the circulation arebriefly reviewed and directly measured current data collected in the past are revisited. The Huanghai Sea Warm Current and the northeastward extension in summer of the Changjiang diluted water are paid more attention to, which arethe major currents of the basic circulation, and then attempted to sketch the Huanghai Sea circulation by synthesizinghydrography and current data. The Huanghai Sea circulation is not considered to be persistent since the thin water column, less than 100 m, responds quickly and sensitively to external driving forces. Directly measured current data showthat saline water originating from the Kuroshio water turns clockwise around Cheju-do throughout the year and eventually joins the Tsushima Warm Current at the western channel of the Korea Strait. This clockwise current is called theCheju Warm Current. The current data do not support the persistent existence of the Huanghai Sea Warm Current,which has ho believed to supply heat and salt to the Huanghai Sea throughout the year. However, a northward flowis generated intermittently during the weakening phase of cold air outbreaks in winter. | 5 | Recovery of heavy metals from electroplating sludge and stainless steel pickle waste liquid by ammonia leaching method显示文摘A coordinative disposal process for treatment of electroplating sludge and stainless steel pickle waste liquid containing Cu, Ni, Zn, Cr and Fe etc., has been developed to recover valuable metals and to eliminate pollution. The recovery of Cu, Ni, Zn and Cr is 94%, 91%, 90% and 95%, respectively. The ammonia was recycled by the simplified process of CaO caustic distillation. The precipitated product of Cu, Ni and Zn obtained from caustic distillation of ammonia was separated by extraction or high\|pressure hydrogen reduction in an autoclave. The qualified metal salt products were obtained through extraction. The rich chromium residue from coordinative disposal was subjected to recover Cr by hydrothermal oxidation in NaOH medium and Fe\-3O\-4 was synthesized by wet methods from the residue produced by extracting Cr. Cr was a stable chemical fixed in Fe\-3O\-4 and harmless. | 6 | Leaching and Redistribution of Nutrients in Surface Layer of Red Soils in Southeast China显示文摘The leaching and redistribution of nutrients in the surface layer of 4 types of red soils in Southeast China were studied with a lysimeter experiment under filed conditions.Results showed that the leaching concentrated in the rainy season(from April to June).Generally,the leaching of soil nutrients from the surface layer of red soils was in the order of Ca>Mg>K>NO3-N,In fertilization treatment,the total amount of soil nutrients leached out of the surface layer in a red soil derived from granite was the highest in all soils.The uptake by grass decreased the leaching of fertilizer ions in surface layer,particularly for No3-N,Soil total N and exchangeable K,Ca and Mg in the surface layer decreased with leaching and grass uptake during the 2 years without new fertilization of urea,Ca(H2PO4)2,KCl,CaCO3 and MgCO3,Ca moved from the application layer(0-5cm) of fertilizer and accumulated in the 10-30cm depth in the soils studied except that derved from quaternary red clay.The deficiency of soil exchangeable K will become a serious degradation process facing the Southeast China. | SUN BO ZHANG TAOLIN and ZHAO QIGUO(Institute of Soil Science, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, P.O. | 9 | Tectonic setting of the Helong Block:Implications for the northern boundary of the eastern North China Craton显示文摘LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating indicates that the Bailiping granitic pluton was em-placed during Late Paleozoic to Early Cretaceous (285―116 Ma) by four distinct magmatic epi-sodes, arguing against the previous thought that the Bailiping granites were emplaced during Archean, Proterozoic or Early Paleozoic. It is suggested that the so-called Archean Jincheng-dong granite-greenstone belt, mainly composed of Bailiping granites, should be broken down. Sr-Nd isotopic compositions of the Bailiping granites are similar to those of the Phanerozoic granites in the Xing’an-Mongolian orogenic belt, suggesting that their parental magmas were mainly derived from a juvenile crust with some contamination of ancient crustal materials during magma rising and/or emplacement. Therefore, the basement of the Helong Block is similar to that in the northern Xing’an-Mongolian Orogenic Belt, but different from that of the North China Craton. It is proposed that the Archean Jinchengdong complex in this area is probably an exotic slice from the North China Craton, which indicates that the Fu’erhe-Gudonghe Fault, located in northern part of the Helong area, is not the boundary between the North China Craton and the Xing’an-Mongolian Orogenic Belt. | 11 | Climate Changes in the 21st Century over the Asia-Pacific Region Simulated by the NCAR CSM and PCM显示文摘The Climate System Model (CSM) and the Parallel Climate Model (PCM), two coupled global climate models without flux adjustments recently developed at NCAR, were used to simulate the 20th century climate using historical greenhouse gas and sulfate aerosol forcing. These simulations were extended through the 21st century under two newly developed scenarios, a business-as-usual case (BAU, CO2≈710 ppmv in 2100) and a CO2 stabilization case (STA550, CO2≈540 ppmv in 2100). The simulated changes in temperature, precipitation, and soil moisture over the Asia-Pacific region (10°-60°N, 55°-155°) are analyzed, with a focus on the East Asian summer monsoon rainfall and climate changes over the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Under the BAU scenario, both the models produce surface warming of about 3-5℃ in winter and 2-3℃ in summer over most Asia. Under the STA550 scenario, the warming is reduced by 0.5-1.0℃ in winter and by 0.5℃ in summer. The warming is fairly uniform at the low latitudes and does not induce significant changes in the zonal mean Hadley circulation over the Asia-Pacific do- main While the regional precipitation changes from single CSM integrations are noisy, the PCM ensemble mean precipitation shows 10%-30% increases north of ~ 30°N and~10% decreases south of ~ 30°N over the Asia-Pacific region in winter and 10%-20% increases in summer precipitation over most of the region. | 12 | Study on the Effects of End-bend Cantilevered Stator in a 2-stage Axial Compressor显示文摘Leading edge recambering is applied to the cantilevered stator vanes in a 2-stage compressor in this paper. Differentcurving effects are produced when the end-bend stator vanes are stacked in different ways. Stacking on theleading edge induces a positive curving effect near the casing.When it is stacked on the centre of gravity, a negativecurving effect takes place. The numerical investigation shows that the flow field is redistributed when theend-bend stators with leading edge stacking are applied. The variations in the stage matching for the mainstreamand near the hub have an impact on the performance of the 2-stage compressor. From the viewpoint of the geo-biosphere system of earth, soilscience does deal not only with the soil substances per se but also more importantly with the relationshipsamong soil, the other spheres and the human survival environment in view of the 'pedosphere'. This is thenew orientation of soil science today and will affect profoundly the studies on the human survival environmentand global changes. To throw more light on this subject, the present paper intends to address the conceptionof pedosphere and its role in global changes.
