| 1 | Pediatric functional constipation treatment with Bifi dobacterium-containing yogurt:A crossover,double-blind,controlled trial显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the treatment of pediatric functional chronic intestinal constipation (FCIC) with a probiotic goat yogurt. METHODS: A crossover double-blind formula-controlled trial was carried out on 59 students (age range: 5-15 years) of a public school in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil, presenting a FCIC diagnostic, according to Roma Ⅲ criteria. The students were randomized in two groups to receive a goat yogurt supplemented with 109 colony forming unit/mL Bifidobacterium longum (B.longum) (probiotic) daily or only the yogurt for a period of 5 wk (formula). Afterwards, the groups were intercrossed for another 5 wk. Defecation frequency, stool consistency and abdominal and defecation pain were assessed.RESULTS: Both treatment groups demonstrated improvement in defecation frequency compared to baseline. However, the group treated with probiotic showed most signif icant improvement in the f irst phase of the study. An inversion was observed after crossing over, resulting in a reduction in stool frequency when this group was treated by formula. Probiotic and formula improved stool consistency in the f irst phase of treatment, but the improvement obtained with probiotic was significantly higher (P = 0.03). In the second phase of treatment, the group initially treated with probiotic showed worseningstool consistency when using formula. However, the difference was not signif icant. A signif icant improvement in abdominal pain and defecation pain was observed with both probiotic and formula in the first phase of treatment, but again the improvement was more signif icant for the group treated with B. longum during phase I (P < 0.05). | 2 | Autophagy in colorectal cancer:An important switch from physiology to pathology显示文摘Colorectal cancer(CRC) remains a leading cause of cancer death in both men and women worldwide.Among the factors and mechanisms that are involved in the multifactorial etiology of CRC,autophagy is an important transformational switch that occurs when a cell shifts from normal to malignant.In recent years,multiple hypotheses have been considered regarding the autophagy mechanisms that are involved in cancer.The currently accepted hypothesis is that autophagy has dual and contradictory roles in carcinogenesis,but the precise mechanisms leading to autophagy in cancer are not yet fully defined and seem to be context dependent.Autophagy is a surveillance mechanism used by normal cells that protects them from the transformation to malignancy by removing damaged organelles and aggregated proteins and by reducing reactive oxygen species,mitochondrial abnormalities and DNA damage.However,autophagy also supports tumor formation by promoting access to nutrients that are critical to the metabolism and growth of tumor cells and by inhibiting cellular death and increasing drug resistance.Autophagy studies in CRC have focused on several molecules,mainly microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3,beclin 1,and autophagy related 5,with conflicting results.Beneficial effects were observed for some agents that modulate autophagy in CRC either alone or,more often,in combination with other agents.More extensive studies are needed in the future to clarify the roles of autophagy-related genes and modulators in colorectal carcinogenesis,and to develop potential beneficial agents for the prognosis and treatment of CRC. | Florin Burada Elena Raluca Nicoli Marius Eugen Ciurea Daniel Constantin Uscatu Mihai Ioana Dan Ionut Gheonea | 2015 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2015,7,11: | 15 |

| 4 | The 1470 nm diode laser with an intralesional fiber device:a proposed solution for the treatment of inflamed and infected keloids显示文摘Background:Keloids are the result of abnormal wound healing and often are subject to infections and recurrent inflammation.We present a study conducted with a 1470 nm diode laser using an intralesional optical fiber device for the treatment of inflamed keloid scars.We evaluate its efficacy as a novel alternative method to decrease keloid infection and inflammation.Methods:The patients who underwent 1470 nm laser treatment from February 2016 to February 2018 at the plastic and reconstructive surgery department of the Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University with keloid accompanying serious local infection and fester were included.Patients took curative effect evaluation before and 1 year after the treatment.The test items included infection frequency in each year;pain,by visual analogue scale(VAS);itch,using VAS;quality of life(QOL),using QOL scale;and blood supply,using PeriCam PSI.Results:A total of 19 patients(mean age 35.21 years,range 11–66)with history of inflamed keloids with episodes of infection or abscess were enrolled.Patients underwent to a 1470 nm laser therapy for average of 1.16 times.After treatment,infection frequency and blood supply in keloids were reduced(p<0.001).Pain,itching,and QOL were improved(p<0.001).Conclusion:The present study shows that 1470 nm fiber laser treatment could improve inflamed keloids fairly well by decreasing inflammation,and a relative stabilization of collagen composition.Therefore,it is an effective minimally invasive scar therapy,but further studies are essential to confirm the present results. | Ke Li Fabio Nicoli Wen Jing Xi Zheng Zhang Chunxiao Cui Ahmed Al-Mousawi Alberto Balzani Yun Tong Yixin Zhang | 2019 | Burns & Trauma2019,7,1: | 8 |

| 8 | Exploring the metamorphic consequences of secular change in the siliciclastic compositions of continental margins显示文摘Shale and greywacke compositions from the Archean to Phanerozoic record a secular change in the siliciclastic material that comprises much of Earth's continental margins, past and present. This study explores the metamorphic consequence of these compositional changes, by comparing phase equilibrium models constructed for average Archean, Proterozoic, and Phanerozoic shale and greywacke compositions equilibrated along two Barrovian-type geotherms: 1330℃/GPa(A) and 800 ℃/GPa(B). Our models show that Archean siliciclastic rocks can retain up to 4 vol.% water at middle to lower crustal conditions, nearly twice that of Proterozoic and Phanerozoic compositions. The increased ferromagnesium content of Archean siliciclastic rocks stabilizes chlorite to higher temperatures and results in a biotite-rich assemblage at solidus temperatures. Accordingly, water-absent biotite dehydration melting is predicted to play a greater role in the generation of melt in the metamorphism of Archean aged units,and water-absent muscovite dehydration melting is of increasing importance through the Proterozoic and Phanerozoic. This secular variation in predicted mineral assemblages demonstrates the care with which metamorphic facies diagrams should be applied to Archean compositions.
