1INTERFACE REACTION IN MAGNETIC MULTILAYERS显示文摘Ta/NiO/NiFe/Ta multilayers were prepared by rf reactive and dc magnetron sputtering. The exchange coupling field (Hex) between NiO and NiFe reached 120Oe. The composition and chemical states at the interface region of NiO/NiFe were studied using the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and peak decomposition technique. The results show that there are two thermodynamically favorable reactions at NiO/NiFe interface: NiO+Fe=Ni+FeO and 3NiO+2Fe = 3Ni+Fe2O3. The thickness of the chemical reaction as estimated by angle-resolved XPS was about 1-1.5nm. These interface reaction products are magnetic defects, and we believe that the Hex and the coercivity (Hc) of NiO/NiFe are affected by these defects. Moreover, the results also show that there is an 'intermixing layer' at the Ta/NiO (and NiO/Ta) interface due to a thermodynamically favorable reaction: 2Ta+5NiO=5Ni+ Ta2O5. This interface reaction has an effect on the exchange coupling as well. The thickness of the 'intermixing layer' as estimated by XPS depth-profiles was about 8-10nm.G.H. Yu, M.H Li, F. W Zhu, X.F. 2DYNAMIC RECOVERY AND DYNAMIC RECRYSTALLIZATION OF 7005 ALUMINIUM ALLOY DURING HOT COMPRESSION显示文摘Dynamic recovery and dynamic recrystallizatin behaviors of AA7005 aluminium alloy (Al - Zn - Mg) during hot compression are investigated by isothermal compression testing. The interdependence of flow stress, stress, strain rate, true strain and deformation temperature for the alloy is analyzed by introduc- ing Zener-Hollomon parameter. A steady - state flow of the 7005 alloy is confirmed to be a thermal- ly activated process.which is governed by rate-controlling mechanisms of dislocations.A hyperbolic sine relationship can satisfactorily correlate temperature, strain rate with flow stress through an Arrhe- nius term that involves thermal activation parameters. The dynamic recovery mechanisms of the alloy are discussed.Cross- slip of jogged screw dislocations is the main dynamic recovery mechanism over the deformation temperatures and strain rates.Subgrains are highly developed in the originally elongat- ed grains. The size of the subgrain increases with decrease of the natural logarithm of Zener- Hol - lomon parameter.Local dynamic recrystallization is operative when the alloy is deformed at temperature of 500℃ and strain rate of 0. 001s - 1.J. 3OXIDATION OF A TWO-PHASE Cu-75Cr ALLOY IN AIRAT 700-900℃显示文摘The cormsion in air of a two-phase Cu-75Cr alloy was studied at 700-900℃. Thealloy cormded nearly parabolically at 700-800℃, but at 900℃ its instantaneousparabolic mte constant decreased with time. The scales were complex and consistedof an outermost layer of copper oxide generally followed bg a layer of the double ox-ide Cu2 Cr2 O4 sometimes containing particles of unoxidized chromium surmunded bya chromia layer. An innermost layer of chromia was also observed in some cases. Finally metallic copper was al8o frequently mixed with chromia particles. No Cr de-pletion was observed in the alloy close to the inteffoce with the scale. In any case, this alloy was not able to form an exclusive continuous protective chromia layer. Thespecial cormsion behavior Of this alloy is typical of two-phase binary systems with alange solubility gaP in which the outwaof dthesion fiux of the most-reactive componentin the alloy is strongly reduced and may be inswncient to fOrm a protective externallayer of the cormsponding oxide. In paTticular, the presence of particles of Cr withina double oxide layer is very unusual and is allowed only for the kinetic reason.F. Gesmundo Y Niu F. Vianiand D.L. 4Cu Ions Dissolution from Cu-bearing Antibacterial Stainless Steel显示文摘This work addressed the antibacterial mechanism of copper ions dissolved from the Cu-bearing antibacterial stainless steel in the bacterial solution by electrochemical measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).Experimental results showed that the antibacterial rate reached over 99.9% only when the reaction time between the antibacterial stainless steel and Escherichia coli (E.coli) lasted for 9 h,and the antibacterial stainless steel was more susceptible to the corrosion in the bacterial solution, which was attributed to more copper ions dissolved from surface of the steel contacted with the bacteria,a crucial reason leading to death of the bacteria.Li Nan and Ke Yang Institute of Metal Research,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Shenyang 110016,China 2010Journal of Materials Science & Technology2010,26,10:17
5Al_(80)Ni_6Y_8Co_4Cu_2 GLASS ALLOYS CONTAINING NANOSCALEPARTICLES BY ISOTHERMAL ANNEALING OR QUENCHING显示文摘Al80Ni6 Y8 Co4 Cu2 amorphous ribbons were isothermally annealed and a mixed structure consisting of α-Al particle with a size of less than 15nm and Al3Ni compound with a size of about 30nm was obtained. The crystallization kinetics of Al80Ni6 Y8 Co4 Cu2 amorphous alloy shows that the precipitation of α-Al particles is the growth process controlled by diffusion of the solute elements rejected from the growing crystals. By quenching at different cooling rates, a mixed structure consisting of nanoscale α-Al particles and the remaining glass matrix or structure consisting of nanoscale particle (Al phase or Al3Ni compound) with a size of about 100nm was formed. The addition of Co elements and Cu elements to Al-Ni-Y alloy systems increases the glass formation ability of the alloy and the thermal stability of the supercooled liquid region against crystallization, which results from significant difference of atomic size, strong bonding nature among constituent elements and the low diffisivity of the solute elements due to the concentration gradient in the growing front of crystals.Z. 6CORROSION MONITORING OF LY12 IN SODIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTION WITH ELECTROCHEMICAL NOISE TECHNIQUE显示文摘Spontaneous electrochemical noise (EN) can be a rich source of information concerning the processes simultaneously occurring on a corroding interface. But the noise signal is often difficult to be analyzed due to the complicated nature of the specific systems being investigated. In this paper the potential noise fluctuations during the bee corrosion of commercial aluminum alloy LY12 in sodium chloride solution was recorded and analyzed with different techniques. The typical results showed that the fractal dimension (Dn) obtained from spectral power density (SPD) is mainly directly proportional to the intensity of pitting corrosion and to the value of pitting parameter (SE) derived hem dimensional analysis, while the fractal dimension (DE) obtained from EIS is mainly related to the uniform corrosion.J.Q. 8INFLUENCE OF NaCl DEPOSITION ON ATMOSPHERIC CORROSION OF A3 STEEL IN THE PRESENCE OF SO_2显示文摘The regularities of atmospheric corrosion of A3 steel deposited with different amountof NaCl exposed to the air containing 1ppm SO2 at 80% RH and 25℃ were studied inlaboratory. NaCl can accelerate the corrosion of A3 steel obviously under such con-dition. The relationship between the weight loss of A3 steel and the amount of NaCldeposition can be well described by using a quadratic function. Fourier transform in-frared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopyand electron dispersion X-ray analysis (SEM/EDAX) were used to characterize thecorrosion products. In the absence of NaCl, FeSO4 xH2O is the dominant corro-sion products, while Fe3O4, FeSO4@ H2O, β-FeOOH and γ-FeOOH dominate in thepresence of NaCl.Q. Qu, C.W. Yan, L. Zhang , Y. Wan and C.N. 10Numerical simulation on electromagnetic field, flow field and temperature field in semisolid slurry preparation by A-EMS显示文摘A two-dimensional computational model coupling an annular electromagnetic stirring(A-EMS) with a macroscopic heat and fluid flow analysis in Al-alloys semisolid slurry preparation was developed. The dynamic evolutions of the electromagnetic field, flow field, and temperature field were presented successfully by commercial software ANSYS 10.0 with corresponding experimental verification.A horizontally rotational electromagnetic field and, thereby,a more intensive velocity field were uniformly distributed in the stirred melt even at commercial frequency, and thus,a lower temperature difference in the stirred melt and subsequent uniformly fine microstructures were obtained compared with the normal electromagnetic stirring. The simulation results were in good agreement with experimental ones.ZHANG Zhifeng,CHEN Xingrun,XU Jun,and SHI Likai National Engineering & Technology Research Center for Nonferrous Metal Matrix Composites,General Research Institute for Nonferrous Metals,Beijing 100088,China 2010Rare Metals2010,29,6:13
11316L Austenite Stainless Steels Strengthened by Means of Nano-scale Twins显示文摘By means of dynamic plastic deformation (DPD) followed by thermal annealing, a mixed structure of micro-sized austenite grains embedded with nano-scale twin bundles (of about 20% in volume) has been synthesized in a 316L stainless steel (SS). Such a 316L SS sample exhibits a tensile strength as high as 1001 MPa and an elongation-to-failure of about 23%. The much elevated strength originates from the presence of a considerable number of strengthening nano-twin bundles, while the ductility from the recrystallized grains. The superior strength-ductility combination achieved in the nano-twins-strengthened austenite steel demonstrates a novel approach for optimizing the mechanical properties in engineering materials.G.Z. 14Electrochemical Corrosion Behavior of Nanocrystalline Materials-a Review显示文摘Nanocrystallization significantly infiuences the electrochemical corrosion behaviors of metals/alloys in liquid system. In active dissolution, nanocrystallization accelerates the corrosion reactions. If the corrosion products are dissoluble, the corrosion rate is increased by nanocrystallization; if the corrosion products are insoluble, the corrosion rate is decreased on the contrary because the corrosion products act as a block layer to delay the dissolution. In passivation, nanocrystallization changes the composition of the passive film, and results into different morphology and growth process of the passive film, both of which improves the formation of compact film and influences the semiconductor property. It influences the passivation depending on fast element diffusion and special adsorbed ability. The small grain size improves the element diffusion, which leads to the different composition of passive film (passive elements enrichment such as Cr, Ti). The small grain size also changes the surface condition, which influences the ions adsorption. All increase the corrosion resistance of materials. In local corrosion, nanocrystallization increases the unstable points on the surface of the materials, which increases the possibility of local corrosion. However, the excellent ability of element diffusion helps heal the local corrosion points, which inhibits the growth of the local corrosion.Li Liu, Ying Li and Fuhui Wang State Key Laboratory for Corrosion and Protection, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang 110016, China 2010Journal of Materials Science & Technology2010,26,1:12
15HEAT TRANSFER BEHAVIOR OF SUPERALLOY DROPLETS DURING SPRAY FORMING显示文摘Based on the Newtonian heat transfer formulation and classical heterogeneous nucleation theory, a mathematical model has been established to predict the profile of flight velocity, heat transfer coefficient, temperature, solid fraction and cooling rate of atomizing droplets for a superalloy. The results indicated that above parameters change with different droplet size and flight distance. The changing trend as well as the mechanism for the change are described and discussed.J.F. Sun, J. 16Nickel-free Stainless Steel for Medical Applications显示文摘BIOSS4 steel is essentially a nickel-free austenitic stainless steel developed by the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in response to nickel allergy problems associated with nickel-containing stainless steels that are widely used in medical applications. The high nitrogen content of this steel effectively maintains the austenitic stability and also contributes to the high levels of corrosion resistance and strength. BIOSS4 steel possesses a good combination of high strength and toughness, better corrosion resistance, and better blood compatibility, in comparison with the medical 316L stainless steel. Potential applications of BIOSS4 steel can include medical implantation material and orthodontic or orthopedic devices, as well as jewelries and other decorations.Yibin REN, Ke YANG, Bingchun ZHANG, Yaqing WANG and Yong LIANGInstitute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang 110016, China 2004Journal of Materials Science & Technology2004,20,5:11
17Friction of Alloys at High Temperature显示文摘A brief review is given about the friction and wear properties of high temperature alloys. Above a critical temperature, if the oxide becomes ductile, it will flow over the surface and prevent metal-to-metat contact. In order to study the tribology of oxide lubrication. a series of tests were carried out using Cu(ReO4)2 as a lubricant. The effects of time. Surface finish. substrates. load and temperature were investigated. A mechanism of lubrication is proposed in which the surface slip predominates along with mechanical attachment of oxide to the surface.M.B.Peterson (Wear Sciences, 925 Mallard Circle, Arnold Maryland 21012, USA)(To whom correspondence should be addressed)S.J.Calabrese (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, USA)Shizhuo LI and Xiaoxia JIANG (Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Acad 1994Journal of Materials Science & Technology1994,10,5:11
18Eutectic Solidification in Near-eutectic Al-Si Casting Alloys显示文摘Eutectic solidification in near-eutectic Al-13 wt pct Si casting alloys and the effect of trace addition of boron or strontium on it have been investigated using thermal analysis and microstructural characterization. In unmodified alloy, dual eutectic structure has been observed. The coarse eutectic(dendrite-like Al+ coarse Si flakes) is formed above the equilibrium temperature of eutectic(Al+Si) reaction(577℃).The coarse eutectic(CE) grains nucleate from the primary silicon particles formed earlier due to local enrichment of silicon solute and grow in a divorced mode between the dendritic Al phase and large silicon flakes. The fine eutectic(FE) grains nucleate later on other potential sites activated by melt undercooling and grow in coupled-growing mode with the silicon crystals as fine flakes. The formation of the FE grains is favored in the alloys containing boron because of a great number of potential nucleation sites being added from boron-containing particles.Addition of strontium to the alloys restrains completely the formation of primary silicon particles and hence limits the nucleation of the CE.This is because the eutectic point has moved far enough to make the alloy,at this composition(Al-13 wt pct Si),hypo-eutectic.Local cooling rate during solidification has an important influence on competition formation of these two eutectics.H.C.Liao,M.Zhang,J.J.Bi,K.Ding,X.Xi and S.Q.Wu School of Materials Science and Engineering,Southeast University Jiangsu Key Laboratory for Advanced Metallic Materials,Nanjing 211198,China 2010Journal of Materials Science & Technology2010,26,12:10
19Effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties of heavily cold-rolled Fe-6.5wt%Si alloy sheet显示文摘Fe-6.5wt%Si alloy has excellent soft magnetic properties, but it is hard to be cold-rolled due to appearance of ordered phases in this alloy. In this paper we report that ultra thin Fe-6.5wt%Si sheet of 0.05 mm thick was obtained by heavily cold rolling.By means of optical microscope,micro-hardness indenter, instron,SEM and X-ray diffraction, the effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties of this alloy sheet was investigated. The heavily cold-rolled sheet exhibits some extent of ductility. The ultimate tensile strength reaches 1.93 GPa.After heat treatment,micro-hardness is decreased and the ductility is lost, especially at temperature above 650℃ when recrystallization takes place. The reason for decreasing the ductility lies in the ordered DO3 phase transformation.LIANG YongFeng,YE Feng,LIN JunPin,WANG YanLi,ZHANG LaiQi & CHEN GuoLiang State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials,University of Science and Technology Beijing,Beijing 100083,China 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,4:10
