3Electrochemically driven conversion reaction in fluoride electrodes for energy storage devices显示文摘Exploring electrochemically driven conversion reactions for the development of novel energy storage materials is an important topic as they can deliver higher energy densities than current Li-ion battery electrodes.Conversion-type fluorides promise particularly high energy densities by involving the light and small fluoride anion,and bond breaking can occur at relatively low Li activity(i.e.,high cell voltage).Cells based on such electrodes may become competitors to other envisaged alternatives such as Lisulfur or Li-air systems with their many unsolved thermodynamic and kinetic problems.Relevant conversion reactions are typically multiphase redox reactions characterized by nucleation and growth processes along with pronounced interfacial and mass transport phenomena.Hence significant overpotentials and nonequilibrium reaction pathways are involved.In this review,we summarize recent findings in terms of phase evolution phenomena and mechanistic features of(oxy)fluorides at different redox stages during the conversion process,enabled by advanced characterization technologies and simulation methods.It can be concluded that well-designed nanostructured architectures are helpful in mitigating kinetic problems such as the usually pronounced voltage hysteresis.In this context,doping and open-framework strategies are useful.By these tools,simple materials that are unable to allow for substantial Li nonstoichiometry(e.g.,by Li-insertable channels)may be turned into electroactive materials.Chilin Li Keyi Chen Xuejun Zhou Joachim Maier 2018npj Computational Materials2018,,1:8

5Harvesting light with transformation optics显示文摘Transformation optics(TO)is a new tool for controlling electromagnetic felds.In the context of metamaterial technology,it provides a direct link between a desired electromagnetic(EM)phenomenon and the material response required for its occurrence.Recently,this powerful framework has been successfully exploited to study surface plasmon assisted phenomena such as light harvesting.Here,we review the general strategy based on TO to design plasmonic devices capable of harvesting light over a broadband spectrum and achieving considerable feld confnement and enhancement.The methodology starts with two-dimensional(2D)cases,such as 2D metal edges,crescent-shaped cylinders,nanowire dimers,and rough metal surfaces,and is well extended to fully-fledged three-dimensional(3D)situations.The largely analytic approach gives physical insights into the processes involved and suggests a way forward to study a wide variety of plasmonic nanostructures.LUO Yu ZHAO RongKuo FERNANDEZ-DOMINGUEZ Antonio I. 6Invited Paper: The Audacity of Fiber-Wireless(FiWi) Networks: Revisited for Clouds and Cloudlets显示文摘There is a growing awareness among industry players of reaping the benefits of mobile-cloud convergence by extending today's unmodified cloud to a decentralized two-level cloud-cloudlet architecture based on emerging mobile-edge computing(MEC) capabilities. In light of future 5G mobile networks moving toward decentralization based on cloudlets, intelligent base stations, and MEC, the inherent distributed processing and storage capabilities of radio-and-fiber(R&F) networks may be exploited for new applications, e.g., cognitive assistance, augmented reality, or cloud robotics. In this paper, we first revisit fiber-wireless(Fi Wi) networks in the context of conventional clouds and emerging cloudlets, thereby highlighting the limitations of conventional radio-overfiber(Ro F) networks such as China Mobile's centralized cloud radio access network(C-RAN) to meet the aforementioned trends. 8Current techniques for AB0-incompatible living donor liver transplantation显示文摘For a long time, it was considered medical malpractice to neglect the blood group system during transplantation. Because there are far more patients waiting for organs than organs available, a variety of attempts have been made to transplant AB0-incompatible(AB0i) grafts. Improvements in AB0 i graft survival rates have been achieved with immunosuppression regimens and plasma treatment procedures. Nevertheless, some grafts are rejected early after AB0 i living donor liver transplantation(LDLT) due to antibody mediated rejection or later biliary complications that affect the quality of life. Therefore, the AB0 i LDLT is an option only for emergency situations, and it requires careful planning. This review compares the treatment possibilities and their effect on the patients' graft outcome from 2010 to the present. We compared 11 transplant center regimens and their outcomes. The best improvement, next to plasma treatment procedures, has been reached with the prophylactic use of rituximab more than one week before AB0 i LDLT. Unfortunately, no standardized treatment protocols are available. Each center treats its patients with its own scheme. Nevertheless, the transplant results are homogeneous. 10Sustained virologic response to direct-acting antiviral agents predicts better outcomes in hepatitis C virus-infected patients: A retrospective study显示文摘BACKGROUND Direct-acting antiviral agents(DAAs)are extremely effective in eradicating hepatitis C virus(HCV)in chronically infected patients.However,the protective role of the sustained virologic response(SVR)achieved by second-and thirdgeneration DAAs against the onset of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and mortality is less well established.AIM To examine the occurrence of HCC or death from any cause in a retrospectiveprospective study of patients treated with DAAs.METHODS Patients were enrolled from a tertiary academic hospital center for liver disease management that collects subject data mainly from northeastern Italy.The study was conducted in 380 patients(age:60±13 years,224 males,32%with cirrhosis)treated with DAAs with or without SVR(95/5%),with a median follow up of 58 wk(interquartile range:38-117).The baseline anthropometric features,HCV viral load,severity of liver disease,presence of extra-hepatic complications,coinfection with HIV and/or HBV,alcohol consumption,previous interferon use,alphafetoprotein levels,and renal function were considered to be confounders.RESULTS The incidence rate of HCC in patients with and without SVR was 1.3 and 59 per 100 person-years,respectively(incidence rate ratio:44,95%CI:15-136,P<0.001).Considering the combined endpoint of HCC or death from any cause,the hazard ratio(HR)for the SVR patients was 0.070(95%CI:0.025-0.194,P<0.001).Other independent predictors of HCC or death were low HCV viremia(HR:0.808,P=0.030),low platelet count(HR:0.910,P=0.041),and presence of mixed cryoglobulinemia(HR:3.460,P=0.044).Considering SVR in a multi-state model,the independent predictors of SVR achievement were absence of cirrhosis(HR:0.521,P<0.001)and high platelet count(HR:1.019,P=0.026).Mixed cryoglobulinemia predicted the combined endpoint in patients with and without SVR(HR:5.982,P=0.028 and HR:5.633,P=0.047,respectively).CONCLUSION DAA treatment is effective in inducing SVR and protecting against HCC or death.A residual risk of HCC persists in patients with advanced liver disease or with complications,such as mixed cryoglobulinemia or renal failure.Gian Luca Colussi Debora Donnini Rosario Francesco Brizzi Silvia Maier Luca Valenti Cristiana Catena Alessandro Cavarape Leonardo Alberto Sechi Giorgio Soardo 2019World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,40:4

14Multimodal imaging in acute retinal ischemia: spectral domain OCT, OCT-angiography and fundus autofluorescence显示文摘AIM: To describe retinal findings of various imaging modalities in acute retinal ischemia. METHODS: Fluorescein angiography(FA), spectral domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT), OCTangiography(OCT-A) and fundus autofluorescence(FAF) images of 13 patients(mean age 64y, range 28-86y) with acute retinal ischemia were evaluated. Six suffered from branch arterial occlusion, 2 had a central retinal artery occlusion, 2 had a combined arteriovenous occlusions, 1 patient had a retrobulbar arterial compression by an orbital haemangioma and 2 patients showed an ocular ischemic syndrome.RESULTS: All patients showed increased reflectivity and thickening of the ischemic retinal tissue. In 10 out of 13 patients SD-OCT revealed an additional highly reflective band located within or above the outer plexiform layer. Morphological characteristics were a decreasing intensity with distance from the fovea, partially segmental occurrence and manifestation limited in time. OCT-A showed a loss of flow signal in the superficial and deep capillary plexus at the affected areas. Reduced flow signal was detected underneath the regions with retinal edema. FAF showed areas of altered signal intensity at the posterior pole. The regions of decreased FAF signal corresponded to peri-venous regions. CONCLUSION: Multimodal imaging modalities in retinal ischemia yield characteristic findings and valuable diagnostic information. Conventional OCT identifies hyperreflectivity and thickening and a mid-retinal hyperreflective band is frequently observed. OCT-A examination reveals demarcation of the ischemic retinal area on the vascular level.
