| 1 | What is the relationship between frailty and orthostatic hypotension in older adults?显示文摘Background Frailty and orthostatic hypotension (OH),which is common in older adults,is associated with morbidity and mortality.The relationship between them remains unclear.The aim of the study is to determine whether there is a relationship between frailty and OH.Methods A total of 496 patients who were admitted to the geriatric clinic and underwent comprehensive geriatric assessment were retrospectively reviewed.In a cross-sectional and observational study,OH was measured by the Head-up Tilt Table test at 1,3,and 5 min (respectively,OH1,OH3,and OH5) and the frailty was measured by the Fried’s frailty scale.Results The mean age of all patients was 75.4 ± 7.38.The prevalence of females was 69.8%.When the frail people were compared with the pre-frail and the robust ones,the frailty was associated with OH1.There was no relationship between the groups in terms of OH1 when the pre-frail group was compared with the robust group.OH3 were higher in the frail group than in the pre-frail group (P < 0.05) and the OH5 were higher in the frail group than in the pre-frail and robust group (P < 0.05),but OH3 and OH5 were not associated with frailty status when they were adjusted for age (P > 0.05).Slowness and weakness were associated with OH1 (P < 0.05),whereas the other components of the Fried’s test were not.Conclusions Frailty may be a risk factor for OH1.The 1^st min measurements of OH should be routinely evaluated in frail older adults to prevent OH-related poor outcomes. | Suleyman Emre Kocyigit Pinar Soysal Esra Ates Bulut Ali Ekrem Aydin Ozge Dokuzlar Ahmet Turan Isik | 2019 | Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2019，16，3： | 3 |
| 2 | Relationship between diabetic polyneuropathy, serum visfatin, and oxidative stress biomarkers显示文摘BACKGROUND Diabetic polyneuropathy is a very common complication of diabetes.Numerous studies are available in terms of pathogenesis.But examination methods with low reliability are still not standardized and generally time consuming.Highsensitive,easy-to-access methods are expected.Biochemical markers are one of the subjects of research.We aimed to discover a potential biomarker that can be used for this purpose in patients with diabetes who have not yet developed symptoms of neuropathy.AIM To determine the place and availability of visfatin and thiol-disulfide homeostasis in this disorder.METHODS A total of 392 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were included in the study.The polyneuropathy clinical signs were evaluated with the Subjective Peripheral Neuropathy Screen Questionnaire and Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument questionnaire and examination.The biochemical parameters,oxidative stress markers,visfatin,and thiol-disulfide homeostasis were analyzed and correlated with each other and clinical signs.RESULTS Subjective Peripheral Neuropathy Screen Questionnaire and Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument questionnaire with examination scores were correlated with each other and diabetes duration(P<0.005).Neuropathy related symptoms were present in 20.7%of the patients,but neuropathy related findings were observed in 43.9%of the patients.Serum glucose,glycated hemoglobin,and visfatin were positively correlated with each other.Also,these parameters were positively correlated with the total oxidative stress index.Total and native thiol was positively correlated with total antioxidant status and negatively with oxidant status.Inversely thiol-disulfide positively correlated with higher glucose and oxidant status and negatively with total antioxidant status(P<0.005).There was no correlation between visfatin and thiol-disulphide(P=0.092,r=0.086).However,a significant negative correlation was observed between visfatin and total with native thiol(P<0.005,r=-0.338),(P<0.005,r=-0.448).CONCLUSION Diagnosis of neuropathy is one of the issues studied in patients with diabetes.Visfatin and thiol-disulfide balance were analyzed for the first time in this study with inspiring results. | Banu Buyukaydin Eray Metin Guler Tahsin Karaaslan Atilla Olgac Mehmet Zorlu Muharrem Kiskac Abdurrahim Kocyigit | 2020 | World Journal of Diabetes2020，11，7： | 2 |
| 3 | Cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic effects of naringenin-oxime relative to naringenin on normal and cancer cell lines显示文摘Objective: To assess and compare the cytotoxic, genotoxic, apoptotic and reactive oxygen species(ROS) generating effects of naringenin(NG) and its new derived compound naringenin-oxime(NG-Ox) on MCF-7, HT-29, PC-12 cancer and L-929 normal cell lines.Methods: The cells were incubated with different doses of NG-Ox and NG(50–1 000 mmol/L) for 24 h. The cell viability was assessed based on ATP cell viability assay.Intracellular accumulation of ROS was determined using the fluorescent probes 2070-dichlorodihydrofluorescin diacetate. Genotoxic effects were evaluated by alkaline single cell gel electrophoresis assay(comet assay) and, the apoptotic effect was evaluated by acridine orange staining at below the IC50 levels.Results: Both NG-Ox and NG exhibited cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic effects and resulted in increased ROS values in a dose-dependent manner. The effects were more pronounced on cancer cell lines. The cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic effects of NG-Ox were higher than that of NG in all cell lines. Significant correlations were observed between cell viability, DNA damage, apoptosis and ROS, in all cell lines exposed to either NG-Ox or NG.Conclusions: This study showed that both NG-Ox and NG possess cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic activities through the production of ROS on cells, NG-Ox being the more effective one.
