| 1 | Canopy Temperature Depression as a Potential Selection Criterion for Drought Resistance in Wheat显示文摘Field studies were conducted at Bushland, Texas, USA, in 2004 to examine usefulness of canopy temperature depression(CTD), the difference of air-canopy temperature, in screening wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes for yield underdryland and irrigated. Forty winter wheat genotypes were grown under irrigation and dryland. CTDs were recorded afterheading between 1 330 and 1 530 h on 6 clear days for dryland and 9 days for irrigation. Drought susceptible index (DSI)for each genotype was calculated using mean yield under dryland and irrigated conditions. Genotypes exhibited greatdifferences in CTD under each environment. The dryland CTDs averaged 1.33°C ranging from -0.67 to 2.57°C, and theaverage irrigation CTD were 4.59°C ranging from 3.21 to 5.62°C. A low yield reduction was observed under drylandconditions relative to irrigated conditions for high-CTD genotypes. CTD values were highly negatively correlated withDSI under dryland, and genotypes of CTDs = 1.3°C in dryland condition were identified as drought resistant. For 21genotypes classified as drought resistant by DSI, their CTDs were 1.68°C for dryland and 4.35°C for irrigation on average;for 19 genotypes classified as drought susceptible by DSI, average CTD was 0.94°C in dryland and 4.85°C in irrigation.The high-yield genotypes consistently had high CTD values, and the low-yield ones had low CTD values for allmeasurements in dryland. After heading, genotypes maintained consistent ranking for CTD. Regression results for CTDand yield suggested that the best time for taking CTD measurement was 3-4 weeks after heading in irrigation but any timebefore senescence in dryland. Crop water stress index (CWSI) calculated from CTD data was highly correlated with CWSIcalculated from yield, which suggesting traditional costly CWSI measurement may be improved by using portable infraredthermometers. Most importantly, grain yield was highly correlated with CTD under dryland (R2 = 0.79-0.86) and irrigation(R2 = 0.46-0.58) conditions. Neurogastroenterological research aims for improved understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of the digestive subsystems from which the arrays of functional symptoms emerge. The key subsystems for defecation-related symptoms and visceral hyper- sensitivity are the intestinal secretory glands, the musculature and the nervous system that controls and integrates their activity. Abdominal pain and discomfort arising from these systems adds the dimension of sensory neurophysiology. It emitted weakly as isolated molecule but strongly as supramolecular aggregate, showing a characteristic behavior of aggregation-induced emission (AIE). The molecules of 3 formed highly emissive nanoparticles in aqueous media, which quickly and selectively marked cytoplasm of HeLa cells and posed no toxicity to the living cells. | 14 | HYPERBRANCHED CONJUGATIVE MACROMOLECULES CONSTRUCTED FROM TRIPLE-BOND BUILDING BLOCKS显示文摘Polycyclotrimerization and polycoupling of acetylenic monomers respectively furnish hyperbranched polyarylenes and polyynes with high molecular weights (up to 1 × 106) in high yields (up to 99.9%). The polymers possess low intrinsic viscosities and high thermal stabilities, losing little of their weights when heated to > 400℃. Upon pyrolysis at > 800℃, the polymers graphitize with high char yields (up to 86%). Hyperbranched polyarylenes efficiently emit deep-blue to blue-green lights with fluorescence quantum yields up to 98% and strongly attenuate intense laser pulses with optical power-limiting performances superior to that of C60, a well-known optical limiter. Poly(alkenephenylenes), poly(aroylarylenes) and polyynes are readily cross-linkable by UV irradiation, serving as excellent photoresist materials for the generation of patterns with nanometer resolution. Thin films of hyperbranched polyynes exhibit very high refractive indexes (n up to 1.86). | 15 | Prolonged high-fat-diet feeding promotes non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and alters gut microbiota in mice显示文摘BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become an epidemic largely due to the worldwide increase in obesity. While lifestyle modifications and pharmacotherapies have been used to alleviate NAFLD, successful treatment options are limited. One of the main barriers to finding safe and effective drugs for long-term use in NAFLD is the fast initiation and progression of disease in the available preclinical models. Therefore, we are in need of preclinical models that (1) mimic the human manifestation of NAFLD and (2) have a longer progression time to allow for the design of superior treatments. AIM To characterize a model of prolonged high-fat diet (HFD) feeding for investigation of the long-term progression of NAFLD. METHODS In this study, we utilized prolonged HFD feeding to examine NAFLD features in C57BL/6 male mice. We fed mice with a HFD (60% fat, 20% protein, and 20% carbohydrate) for 80 wk to promote obesity (Old-HFD group, n = 18). A low-fat diet (LFD)(14% fat, 32% protein, and 54% carbohydrate) was administered for the same duration to age-matched mice (Old-LFD group, n = 15). An additional group of mice was maintained on the LFD (Young-LFD, n = 20) for a shorter duration (6 wk) to distinguish between age-dependent and age-independent effects. Liver, colon, adipose tissue, and feces were collected for histological and molecular assessments.RESULTS Prolonged HFD feeding led to obesity and insulin resistance. Histological analysis in the liver of HFD mice demonstrated steatosis, cell injury, portal and lobular inflammation and fibrosis. In addition, molecular analysis for markers of endoplasmic reticulum stress established that the liver tissue of HFD mice have increased phosphorylated Jnk and CHOP. Lastly, we evaluated the gut microbial composition of Old-LFD and Old-HFD. We observed that prolonged HFD feeding in mice increased the relative abundance of the Firmicutes phylum. At the genus level, we observed a significant increase in the abundance of Adercreutzia, Coprococcus, Dorea, and Ruminococcus and decreased relative abundance of Turicibacter and Anaeroplasma in HFD mice. Herein, a general powder dusting method has been explored for latent fingerprint development based on aggregation-induced emission luminogens(AIEgens). A series of tetraphenylethene(TPE) derivatives with multiple diphenylamine(DPA), namely, TPE-DPA,TPE-2 DPA and TPE-4 DPA, were selected as candidates to dope with magnetic powders and applied for latent fingerprint development. After screening, the magnetic powder 3 doped with TPE-4 DPA proves to be the best, in terms of fluorescent intensity, resolution and adhesiveness.
