| 1 | Warpage and Shrinkage Optimization of Injection-Molded Plastic Spoon Parts for Biodegradable Polymers Using Taguchi, ANOVA and Artificial Neural Network Methods显示文摘In this study, it is attempted to give an insight into the injection processability of three self-prepared polymers from A to Z. This work presents material analysis, injection molding simulation, design of experiments alongside considering all interaction effects of controlling parameters carefully for green biodegradable polymeric systems, including polylactic acid(PLA), polylactic acid-thermoplastic polyurethane(PLA-TPU) and polylactic acid-thermoplastic starch(PLA-TPS). The experiments were carried out using injection molding simulation software Autodesk Moldflow?in order to minimize warpage and volumetric shrinkage for each of the mentioned systems. The analysis was conducted by changing five significant processing parameters, including coolant temperature, packing time, packing pressure, mold temperature and melt temperature. Taguchi's L27(35) orthogonal array was selected as an efficient method for design of simulations in order to consider the interaction effects of the parameters and reduce spurious simulations. Meanwhile, artificial neural network(ANN) was also used for pattern recognition and optimization through modifying the processing conditions. The Taguchi coupled analysis of variance(ANOVA) and ANN analysis resulted in definition of optimum levels for each factor by two completely different methods. According to the results, melting temperature, coolant temperature and packing time had significant influence on the shrinkage and warpage. The ANN optimal level selection for minimization of shrinkage and/or warpage is in good agreement with ANOVA optimal level selection results. | 2 | Osteoporosis:A Silent Disease with Complex Genetic Contribution显示文摘Osteoporosis is the most common multifactorial metabolic bone disorder worldwide with a strong genetic component. In this review, the evidence for a genetic contribution to osteoporosis and related phenotypes is summarized alongside with methods used to identify osteoporosis susceptibility genes. The key biological pathways involved in the skeleton and bone development are discussed with a particular focus on master genes clustered in these pathways and their mode of action. Furthermore, the most studied single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) analyzed for their importance as genetic markers of the disease are presented. New data generated by nextgeneration sequencing in conjunction with extensive meta-analyses should contribute to a better understanding of the genetic basis of osteoporosis and related phenotype variability. | 3 | Transplantation of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth for bone regeneration in the dog mandibular defect显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effect of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth(SHED) transplanted for bone regeneration in the dog mandibular defect.METHODS: In this prospective comparative study, SHEDs had been isolated 5 years ago from human exfoliated deciduous teeth. The undifferentiated stem cells were seeded into mandibular bone through-andthrough defects of 4 dogs. Similar defects in control group were filled with cell-free collagen scaffold. After 12 wk, biopsies were taken and morphometric analysis was performed. The percentage of new bone formation and foreign body reaction were measured in each case. The data were subject to statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney U and Kruskalwalis statistical tests. Differences at P < 0.05 was considered as significant level.RESULTS: There were no significant differences between control and SHED-seeded groups in connective tissue(P = 0.248), woven bone(P = 0.248) and compact bone(P = 0.082). | 5 | Effects of Salinity and Potassium Application on Antioxidant Enzyme Activities and Physiological Parameters in Pearl Millet显示文摘A plot culture experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at University of Zabol,Iran,to study the effects of different salinity levels and potassium supply on pearl millet.The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized factorial design with three replicates.Potassium sulfate was used as the potassium source.The rates of potassium treatments were 0,100,and 200 kg ha-1.Pearl millet was subjected to different salinity levels(0,4,8,and 12 ds m-1) through addition of NaCl to irrigation water.Results showed that the increase in the salt concentration from control to 12 ds m-1 decreased grain yield(38.7%) of millet plants.In this study,we found a negative relationship between potassium and proline accumulation at vegetative(r2=-0.75**) and reproductive stage(r2=-0.66**) in millet plants.Salt stress remarkably elevated the activities of CAT and GPX antioxidant enzymes at vegetative and reproductive stages.Furthermore,potassium application had significant effect on grain yield and increased it about 10.6% at the highest salinity treatment(12 ds m-1).Though,potassium treatment increased antioxidant activity in millet plants,it had no significant effect on proline content in leaves.Salinity treatment decreased potassium uptake but application potassium increased potassium content in leaves at two stages. | Mostafa Heidari Parisa Jamshidi | 2011 | Agricultural Sciences in China2011,10,2: | 6 |

| 7 | Modeling and process optimization for microbial desulfurization of coal by using a two-level full factorial design显示文摘The microbial sulfur removal was investigated on high sulfur content (1.9%) coal concentrate from Tabas coal preparation plant. A mixed culture of ferrooxidans microorganisms was isolated from the tailing dam of the plant. Full factorial method was used to design laboratory test and to evaluate the effects of pH, particle size, iron sulfate concentration, pulp density, and bioleaching time on sulfur reduction. Statistical analyses of experimental data were considered and showed increases of pH and particle size had negative effects on sulfur reduction, whereas increases of pulp density and bioleaching time raised microbial desulfurization rate. According to results of designing, and regarding statistical factors, the optimum values for maximum sulfur reduction were obtained; pH (1.5), particle size (-180 μm), iron sulfate concentration (2.7 mmol/L), pulp density (10%) and bioleaching time (14 d), which leaded to 51.5% reduction from the total sulfur of sample. | Golshani T. | 8 | Efficacy of new scoring system for diagnosis of abdominal injury after blunt abdominal trauma in patients referred to emergency department显示文摘Purpose: The blunt abdominal trauma (BAT) is a common emergency and is significantly associated with morbidity and mortality. Our study was conducted to achieve the goal that a new scoring system could be used for the BAT patients.Methods: The statistical population of this study was 1000 patients with BAT referred to emergency department of Imam Hossein Hospital, Tehran, Iran. Sampling was carried out in a convenience non-random manner and continued to reach the required sample size. All the patients with BAT due to road traffic accidents, falls, and other direct blunt traumas such as punctures and kickbacks were included in the study. Exclusion criteria were after 3 months of pregnancy, under the age of 18, warfarin taking, no reliable medical history providing and penetrating trauma. The study questionnaire was based on BAT scoring system. The data were analyzed by SPSS V20 software. The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to analyze the effectiveness of the new scoring system in predicting the BAT patients’ outcome.Results: The mean age of the patients (n = 1000) was (35.79 ± 13.09) years. The mean score of patients was (6.29 ± 5.80). Based on this scoring system, the patients were divided into three categories. The first group was patients at low risk with score of less than 8, the second group was patients at moderate risk with score of 8-12 and the third group was patients at high risk with score of 12-24. The score of 661 (66.1%) patients were low, 109 (10.9%) were moderate and 230 (23%) had a high score. The association between hip fracture and abdominal tenderness with abdominal injury was significant (p < 0.001). | 9 | Assessing the performance of decision tree and neural network models in mapping soil properties显示文摘To build any spatial soil database, a set of environmental data including digital elevation model(DEM) and satellite images beside geomorphic landscape description are essentials. Such a database, integrates field observations and laboratory analyses data with the results obtained from qualitative and quantitative models. So far, various techniques have been developed for soil data processing. The performance of Artificial Neural Network(ANN) and Decision Tree(DT) models was compared to map out some soil attributes in Alborz Province, Iran. Terrain attributes derived from a DEM along with Landsat 8 ETM+, geomorphology map, and the routine laboratory analyses of the studied area were used as input data. The relationships between soil properties(including sand, silt, clay, electrical conductivity, organic carbon, and carbonates) and the environmental variables were assessed using the Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Principle Components Analysis. Slope, elevation, geomforms, carbonate index, stream network, wetness index, and the band’s number 2, 3, 4, and 5 were the most significantly correlated variables. ANN and DT did not show the same accuracy in predicting all parameters. The DT model showed higher performances in estimating sand(R^2=0.73), silt(R^2=0.70), clay(R^2=0.72), organic carbon(R^2=0.71), and carbonates(R^2=0.70). While the ANN model only showed higher performance in predicting soil electrical conductivity(R^2=0.95). The results showed that determination the best model to use, is dependent upon the relation between the considered soil properties with the environmental variables. However, the DT model showed more reasonable results than the ANN model in this study. The results showed that before using a certain model to predict variability of all soil parameters, it would be better to evaluate the efficiency of all possible models for choosing the best fitted model for each property. | 10 | CFD simulation of impeller shape effect on quality of mixing in two-phase gas–liquid agitated vessel显示文摘Mixing efficiency in two-phase gas–liquid agitated vessel is one of the important challenges in the industrial processes.Computational fluid dynamics technique(CFD)was used to investigate the effect of four different pitched blade impellers,including 15°,30°,45°and 60°,on the mixing quality of gas–liquid agitated vessel.The multiphase flow behavior was modeled by Eulerian–Eulerian multiphase approach,and RNG k-εwas used to model the turbulence.The CFD results showed that a strong global vortex plays the main role on the mixing quality of the gas phase in the vessel.Based on the standard deviation criterion,it was observed that the axial distribution of the gas phase in the 30°impeller is about 55%better than the others.In addition,the results showed that the 30°impeller has a uniform radial distribution over the other impellers and the maximum gas phase holdup in the vessel.Investigation of the power consumption of the impellers showed that the 30°impeller has the highest power consumption among the other pitched blade impellers.Also,examine the effect of same power condition for pitched blade impellers showed that the 30°impeller has the best mixing quality in this condition. | Amir Heidari | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,11: | 4 |
| 11 | Comparison among Ocular Response Analyzer,Corvis ST and Goldmann applanation tonometry in healthy children显示文摘AIM: To explore the relationship between different parameters of Ocular Response Analyzer(ORA) and Corvis ST(CST) in a sample of healthy Iranian school-aged children and the relationship between parameters of these 2 instruments against intraocular pressure(IOP), measured by the Goldmann applanation tonometer(GAT-IOP), age and gender, and find possible correlation between ORA and CST with GAT.METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 90 healthy children. A general interview and complete eye examination were performed. Following successful GATIOP measurement, ORA and CST were conducted. The CST parameters were A 1/2 length(A1 L, A2 L), A 1/2 velocity(A1 V, A2 V), highest concavity deformation amplitude(HCDA), radius of curvature(Ro C), peak distance(PD), central corneal thickness(CCT) and IOP. The ORA parameters were corneal hysteresis(CH), corneal resistance factor(CRF), Goldmann-correlated IOP(IOP-G) and corneal compensated IOP(IOP-CC). Extracted data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science software.RESULTS: Totally 39 males with age of 9.08±1.60(6-12)y and 51 females with age of 8.96±1.55(6-13)y were included. Many CST parameters were significantly correlated with CH, CRF, IOP-G and IOP-CC. Some CST parameters had a significant correlation with GAT-IOP, including IOP-CST in both eyes and HCDA, A2 L, PD, and RoC in the left eye, but none with age, except A2 L in the right eye. The CRF measurement showed a significant correlation with GAT-IOP in both eyes and CH in the right eye, yet, none with age. Among all CST and ORA parameters, CCT-CST in both eyes and A1 L in right eye had a significant correlation with gender, although this was a negligible negative correlation. Comparison of mean IOP values by different devices showed a significantly highest IOP overestimation by CST and lowest by IOP-CC compared with GAT. Also, IOP-G versus IOP-CST significantly had the lowest IOP overestimation among others. Overall, either low positive correlation or negligible correlation was found between IOP measurements by 3 instruments.CONCLUSION: The study finds the highest IOP overestimation by CST and lowest by IOP-CC compared with GAT. | 12 | Hepatitis B virus genotypes in southwest Iran: Molecular, serological and clinical outcomes显示文摘AIM: To investigate the associations of hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotype with HBeAg and anti-HBe status, alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels and HBV-DNA detection in different groups of HBV-infected patients in southwest Iran. METHODS: A total of 89 HBsAg-positive serum samples were collected from the same number of patients. All sera were then investigated to determine HBV DNA and serological markers. For all the polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-positive samples, biochemical, histopathological assays and genotyping were also performed. RESULTS: Genotype D was the only type of HBV foundin different clinical forms of acute and chronic infections. There was a high prevalence of HBeAg-negative HBV- infected patients with chronic hepatitis (52.7%). Out of 55 patients with chronic hepatitis, seven (12.7%) were diagnosed with cirrhosis. A significant association between the presence of anti-HBe antibody and an increase in ALT level, among either HBeAg-negative (P = 0.01) or HBeAg-positive (P = 0.026) patients, was demonstrated. No significant differences were observed between the clinical outcomes of HBeAg-positive and -negative individuals (P = 0.24). CONCLUSION: Genotype D has been recognized as the only type of HBV found in different clinical forms of HBV infections, including cirrhosis, among the residents of southwest Iran. | 20 | Metformin alleviates cholestasis-associated nephropathy through regulating oxidative stress and mitochondrial function显示文摘Background and aim:Cholestasis-associated renal injury or cholemic nephropathy(CN)is a serious clinical problem.Previous studies mentioned that oxidative stress and mitochondrial impairment play a role in CN.There is no specific pharmacological intervention for CN.Metformin is an anti-diabetic drug administered for decades.On the other hand,novel pharmacological properties have emerged for this drug.The effect of metformin on oxidative stress parameters has been well-recognized in different experimental models.It has also been found that metformin positively affected mitochondrial function.The current study aimed to evaluate the effects of metformin in an animal model of CN.Methods:Rats underwent bile duct ligation(BDL)and were treated with metformin(250 and 500 mg/kg)for 14 consecutive days.Two weeks after the BDL operations,urine,serum,and kidney samples were collected and analyzed.Results:Markers of oxidative stress,including reactive oxygen species(ROS)formation,lipid peroxida-tion,protein carbonylation,depleted antioxidant capacity,and decreased glutathione(GSH)levels were detected in BDL animals.Moreover,mitochondrial indices,including adenosine triphosphate(ATP)level,dehydrogenase activity,mitochondrial membrane potential,and mitochondrial permeability,were impaired in the kidney of cholestatic rats.Renal histopathological alterations in cholestatic animals included tubular degeneration and interstitial inflammation,cast formation,and fibrosis.It was found that metformin significantly alleviated oxidative stress and improved mitochondrial indices in the kidney of cholestatic rats.Tissue histopathological alterations were also mitigated in metformin-treated groups.Conclusions:Metformin could be a candidate for managing CN.The nephroprotective role of metformin is primarily associated with its effects on oxidative stress parameters and mitochondrial function. | Mohammad Mehdi Ommati Hamidreza Mohammadi Khadijeh Mousavi Negar Azarpira Omid Farshad Reyhaneh Dehghani Asma Najibi Sedigheh Kamran Hossein Niknahad Reza Heidari | 2021 | Liver Research2021,5,3: | 3 |
