Cropland redistribution to marginal lands undermines environmental sustainability显示文摘Cropland redistribution to marginal land has been reported worldwide;however, the resulting impacts on environmental sustainability have not been investigated sufficiently. Here we investigated the environmental impacts of cropland redistribution in China. As a result of urbanization-induced loss of high-quality croplands in south China(~8.5 t ha^(-1)),croplands expanded to marginal lands in northeast(~4.5 t ha^(-1)) and northwest China(~2.9 t ha^(-1)) during 1990-2015 to pursue food security. However, the reclamation in these low-yield and ecologically vulnerable zones considerably undermined local environmental sustainability, for example increasing wind erosion(+3.47%),irrigation water consumption(+34.42%),fertilizer use(+20.02%) and decreasing natural habitats(-3.11%).Forecasts show that further reclamation in marginal lands per current policies would exacerbate environmental costs by 2050.The future cropland security risk will be remarkably intensified because of the conflict between food production and environmental sustainability. Our research suggests that globally emerging reclamation of marginal lands should be restricted and crop yield boost should be encouraged for both food security and environmental benefits. | Wenhui Kuang Jiyuan Liu Hanqin Tian Hao Shi Jinwei Dong Changqing Song Xiaoyong Li Guoming Du Yali Hou Dengsheng Lu Wenfeng Chi Tao Pan Shuwen Zhang Rafiq Hamdi Zherui Yin Huimin Yan Changzhen Yan Shixin Wu Rendong Li Jiuchun Yang Yinyin Dou Wenbin Wu Liqiao Liang Bao Xiang Shiqi Yang | 2022 | National Science Review2022,9,1: | 13
Character and Causes of Population Distribution in Shenyang City,China显示文摘Character of population distribution is one of the focuses studied by urban geography. Using the fifth national census data as basic data and using areal interpolation method, this paper analyzes character of urban population dis- tribution of Shenyang City, Northeast China, in terms of three aspects of statistical character, spatial auto-correlation and spatial structure. Furthermore, this research analyzes the factors affecting the population distribution of the city. The main conclusions include: 1) There is an obvious structure character of population distribution in the grid with a grain of 300m, which is appropriate scale when researching population distribution in Shenyang City. 2) Urban population dis- tribution has the character of assembling while population density distribution takes on variability in Shenyang City. 3) Population density distribution shows spatial auto-correlation within 7.36km. Spatial heterogeneity of population density is low. 4) Urban center, population distribution barycenter and population density maximum points separate each other. Population density distribution has multi-cores character. 5) Layout of governments, primary schools, middle schools, colleges, hospitals and marketplaces affects population distribution directly. With the increase of distance to these factors, population density decreases as logarithm. | DU Guoming ZHANG Shuwen ZHANG Youquan | 2006 | Chinese Geographical Science2006,16,3: | 12
Characteristics of the crustal magnetic anomaly and regional tectonics in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the adjacent areas显示文摘Study of the characteristics of the crustal magnetic anomaly in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the adjacent areas helps better understand the lithospheric structure and evolution, as well as the regional geodynamic processes. Here we analyze the distribution laws of the crustal magnetic anomaly and its vertical gradient, the decay characteristics of the anomaly, the contributions from different wavelength bands to the anomaly, and the relationship between the anomaly and the crustal regional tectonics in the plateau and nearby, based on a new and higher degree geomagnetic model NGDC-EMM-720-V3 constructed from the surface, aeromagnetic, marine and satellite survey data. The results reveal that the positive and negative anomalies in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau are weak, while those of the surrounding areas are strong. The boundary agrees well with the border of the plateau regional tectonics. The anomaly is nearly east-west in the central and western plateau, arc-shaped in the southwestern and eastern, and nearly north-south in the southeastern, consistent with the tectonic trends. There are strong negative anomaly foci in the east and west syntaxis, whereas no significant differences exist among the Cenozoic blocks in the plateau interior. No direct correspondence exists between the anomaly and the crustal depth. On the background of a weak magnetic anomaly in the plateau, relatively stronger short wavelength fields from the shallower crust are overlapped in the Lhasa, Qilian, Qaidam, and Sichuan-Yunnan rhombic blocks. A strong negative anomaly in the east-west direction is distributed along the Himalayas, mainly caused by the middle and long wavelength bands in the deep and central crust. The magnetic structural layers are stable in the Sichuan and Tarim basins. The anomalies at different altitudes over the southern plateau vary strongly, showing a drastic variation in the magnetic structure from the deep crust to the shallow crust. | KANG GuoFa GAO GuoMing BAI ChunHua SHAO Dan FENG LiLi | 2012 | Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,6: | 11
Expression of human cytomegalovirus components in the brain tissues of patients with Rasmussen's encephalitis显示文摘Rasmussen's encephalitis(RE) is a rare and severe progressive epileptic syndrome with unknown etiology. Infection by viruses, including human cytomegalovirus(HCMV), has been speculated to be a potential trigger for RE. However, no viral antigens have been detected in the brains of patients with RE; thus, a possible clinical linkage between viral infections and RE has not been firmly established. In this study, we evaluated the expression of HCMV pp65 antigen in brain sections from 26 patients with RE and 20 non-RE patients by immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, and assessed the associations between HCMV infection and clinical parameters.Elevated expression of HCMV pp65 protein and DNA was observed in 88.5%(23/26) and 69.2%(18/26) of RE cases, respectively. In the non-RE group, HCMV pp65 antigen was detected only in two cases(10%), both of which were negative for DNA staining. Additionally, the intensity of HCMV pp65 staining was correlated with a shorter duration of the prodromal stage, younger age of seizure onset, and more severe unilateral cortical atrophy. Elevated expression of HCMV pp65 was observed in RE brain tissue and was correlated with the clinical features of RE disease. In summary, our results suggested that HCMV infection may be involved in the occurrence and progression of RE disease. Thus, further studies are needed to determine whether early treatment with anti-HCMV antibodies could modulate the course of RE. | Yao Zhang Yisong Wang Sichang Chen Shuai Chen Yuguang Guan Changqing Liu Tianfu Li Guoming Luan Jing An | 2017 | Virologica Sinica2017,32,2: | 9

Application and future perspective of CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing in fruit crops显示文摘Fruit crops, including apple, orange, grape, banana, strawberry, watermelon, kiwifruit and tomato, not only provide essential nutrients for human life but also contribute to the major agricultural output and economic growth of many countries and regions in the world. Recent advancements in genome editing provides an unprecedented opportunity for the genetic improvement of these agronomically important fruit crops. Here, we summarize recent reports of applying CRISPR/Cas9 to fruit crops, including efforts to reduce disease susceptibility, change plant architecture or flower morphology, improve fruit quality traits, and increase fruit yield. We discuss challenges facing fruit crops as well as new improvements and platforms that could be used to facilitate genome editing in fruit crops, including d Cas9-base-editing to introduce desirable alleles and heat treatment to increase editing efficiency. In addition, we highlight what we see as potentially revolutionary development ranging from transgene-free genome editing to de novo domestication of wild relatives. Without doubt, we now see only the beginning of what will eventually be possible with the use of the CRISPR/Cas9 toolkit. Efforts to communicate with the public and an emphasis on the manipulation of consumerfriendly traits will be critical to facilitate public acceptance of genetically engineered fruits with this new technology. | Junhui Zhou Dongdong Li Guoming Wang Fuxi Wang Merixia Kunjal Dirk Joldersma Zhongchi Liu | 2020 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2020,62,3: | 7
Multistring analysis of wellhead movement and uncemented casing strength in offshore oil and gas wells显示文摘This paper presents a theoretical method and a finite element method to describe wellhead movement and uncemented casing strength in offshore oil and gas wells. Parameters considered in the theoretical method include operating load during drilling and completion and the temperature field, pressure field and the end effect of pressure during gas production. The finite element method for multistring analysis is developed to simulate random contact between casings. The relevant finite element analysis scheme is also presented according to the actual procedures of drilling, completion and gas production. Finally, field cases are presented and analyzed using the proposed methods. These are four offshore wells in the South China Sea. The calculated wellhead growths during gas production are compared with measured values. The results show that the wellhead subsides during drilling and completion and grows up during gas production. The theoretical and finite element solutions for wellhead growth are in good agreement with measured values and the deviations of calculation are within 10%. The maximum von Mises stress on the uncemented intermediate casing occurs during the running of the oil tube. The maximum von Mises stress on the uncemented production casing, calculated with the theoretical method occurs at removing the blow-out-preventer(BOP) while that calculated with the finite element method occurs at gas production. Finite element solutions for von Mises stress are recommended and the uncemented casings of four wells satisfy strength requirements. | Liu Xiuquan Chen Guoming Chang Yuanjiang Zhang Lei Zhang Weiguo Xie Hua | 2014 | Petroleum Science2014,11,1: | 7
Hydration-Enhanced Lubricating Electrospun Nanofibrous Membranes Prevent Tissue Adhesion显示文摘Lubrication is the key to efficient function of human tissues and has significant impact on the comfort level. However, the construction of a lubricating nanofibrous membrane has not been reported as yet, especially using a one-step surface modification method. Here, bioinspired by the superlubrication mechanism of articular cartilage,we successfully construct hydration-enhanced lubricating nanofibers via one-step in situ grafting of a copolymer synthesized by dopamine methacrylamide(DMA)and 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine(MPC)onto electrospun polycaprolactone(PCL)nanofibers. The zwitterionic MPC structure provides the nanofiber surface with hydration lubrication behavior. The coefficient of friction(COF)of the lubricating nanofibrous membrane decreases significantly and is approximately 65%less than that of pure PCL nanofibers, which are easily worn out under friction regardless of hydration. The lubricating nanofibers, however, show favorable wear-resistance performance.Besides, they possess a strong antiadhesion ability of fibroblasts compared with pure PCL nanofibers. The cell density decreases approximately 9-fold,and the cell area decreases approximately 12 times on day 7.Furthermore,the in vivo antitendon adhesion data reveals that the lubricating nanofiber group has a significantly lower adhesion score and a better antitissue adhesion.Altogether, our developed hydration-enhanced lubricating nanofibers show promising applications in the biomedical field such as antiadhesive membranes. | Liang Cheng Yi Wang Guoming Sun Shizhu Wen Lianfu Deng Hongyu Zhang Wenguo Cui | 2020 | Research2020,,1: | 6
Multimodal hyperspectral remote sensing:an overview and perspective显示文摘Since the advent of hyperspectral remote sensing in the 1980 s,it has made important achievements in aerospace and aviation field and been applied in many fields.Conventional hyperspectral imaging spectrometer extends the number of spectral bands to dozens or hundreds, and provides spatial distribution of the reflected solar radiation from the scene of observation at the same time.Nowadays, with the fast development of new technology in the fields of information and photoelectricity sensing, and the popularity of unmanned aerial vehicle, hyperspectral remote sensing imaging presents the new trends of multimodality and acquires integration information while keeping high or very-high spectral resolution, especially, high temporal even real time sensing and stereo sensing. Therefore, three important modes of hyperspectral imaging come into existence:(1)multitemporal hyperspectral imaging, which refers to the observation of same region at different dates;(2)hyperspectral video imaging, which captures full frame spectral images in real-time;(3)hyperspectral stereo imaging, which obtains the full dimension information(including 2D image, elevation, and spectra)of observed scene.Along this perspective, firstly, the current researches on hyperspectral remote sensing and image processing are briefly reviewed, and then, comprehensive descriptions of the aforementioned three main hyperspectral imaging modes are carried out from the following four aspects:fundamental principle of new mode of hyperspectral imaging, corresponding scientific data acquisition, data processing and application, and potential challenges in data representation, feature learning and interpretation.Through the analysis of development trend of hyperspectral imaging and current research situation,we hope to provide a direction for future research on multimodal hyperspectral remote sensing. | Yanfeng GU Tianzhu LIU Guoming GAO Guangbo REN Yi MA Jocelyn CHANUSSOT Xiuping JIA | 2021 | Science China(Information Sciences)2021,64,2: | 6
Direct Reduction of Solid Fe_2O_3 in Molten CaCl_2 by Potentially Green Process显示文摘Sintered (300°C) porous pellets of Fe2O3 were electrolyzed to Fe in molten CaCl2 (800–900°C) under argon at 1.8–3.2 V for 2–20 h. The laboratory scale experiments show that it was a potentially direct green method to produce Fe powder. At lower electrolysis voltage (<2.2 V), higher current efficiency (>90%) and smaller energy consumption (~3.0 kWh/kg) can be obtained. When the electrolysis voltage was above 2.4 V, the deposition of metal Ca from the salt lowered the current efficiency and increased the energy consumption. The electrolysis voltage also had effects on the micrographs of the reduced powder. The cubic particles can be seen in the products at the voltage lower than 2.2 V; when the voltage was higher than 2.2 V, it was nodular. The reduction proceeds at the cathode in two steps, i.e., from Fe2O3 to FeO and then to Fe. The oxygen emits at the anode. The process is potentially free of carbon emission and produces two useful products at both cathode and anode, promising a zero-emission technology for the extractive metallurgical industry. | Guoming Li Dihua Wang Zhen Chen | 2009 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2009,25,6: | 5

Detection of EBV and HHV6 in the Brain Tissue of Patients with Rasmussen's Encephalitis显示文摘Rasmussen's encephalitis (RE) is a rare pediatric neurological disorder, and the exact etiology is not clear. Viral infection may be involved in the pathogenesis of RE, but conflicting results have reported. In this study, we evaluated the expression of both Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and human herpes virus (HHV) 6 antigens in brain sections from 30 patients with RE and16 control individuals by immunohistochemistry. In the RE group, EBV and HHV6 antigens were detected in 56.7% (17/30) and 50% (15/30) of individuals, respectively. In contrast, no detectable EBV and HHV6 antigen expression was found in brain tissues of the control group. The co-expression of EBV and HHV6 was detected in 20.0% (6/30) of individuals. In particular, a 4-year-old boy had a typical clinical course, including a medical history of viral encephalitis, intractable epilepsy, and hemispheric atrophy. The co-expression of EBV and HHV6 was detected in neurons and astrocytes in the brain tissue, accompanied by a high frequency of CD8?T cells. Our results suggest that EBV and HHV6 infection and the activation of CD8?T cells are involved in the pathogenesis of RE. | Dong Liu Xin Wang Yisong Wang Peigang Wang Dongying Fan Sichang Chen Yuguang Guan Tianfu Li Jing An Guoming Luan | 2018 | Virologica Sinica2018,33,5: | 4
Removal of perchlorate from aqueous solution by cross-linked Fe(Ⅲ)-chitosan complex显示文摘Cross-linked Fe(III)-chitosan composite(Fe-CB) was used as the adsorbent for removing perchlorate from the aqueous solution. The adsorption experiments were carried out by varying contact time, initial concentrations, temperatures, pH, and the presence of co-existing anions. The morphology of the adsorbent was discussed using FT-IR and SEM with X-EDS analysis. The pH ranging from 3.0–10.2 exhibited very little effect on the adsorption capability. The perchlorate uptake onto Fe-CB obeyed Langmuir isotherm model. The adsorption process was rapid and the kinetics data obeyed the pseudo second-order model well. The eluent of 2.5%(W/V) NaCl could regenerate the exhausted adsorbent efficiently. The adsorption mechanism was also discussed. | Long Lv Yanhua Xie Guoming Liu Guo Liu Jing Yu | 2014 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2014,26,4: | 4
Deep feature extraction and motion representation for satellite video scene classification显示文摘Satellite video scene classification(SVSC)is an advanced topic in the remote sensing field, which refers to determine the video scene categories from satellite videos.SVSC is an important and fundamental step for satellite video analysis and understanding, which provides priors for the presence of objects and dynamic events. In this paper,a two-stage framework is proposed to extract spatial features and motion features for SVSC.More specifically, the first stage is designed to extract spatial features for satellite videos.Representative frames are firstly selected based on the blur detection and spatial activity of satellite videos. Then the fine-tuned visual geometry group network(VGG-Net)is transferred to extract spatial features based on spatial content. The second stage is designed to build motion representation for satellite videos. The motion representation of moving targets in satellite videos is first built by the second temporal principal component of principal component analysis(PCA).Second, features from the first fully connected layer of VGG-Net are used as high-level spatial representation for moving targets.Third,a small network of long and short term memory(LSTM)is further designed for encoding temporal information.Two-stage features respectively characterize spatial and temporal patterns of satellite scenes, which are finally fused for SVSC.A satellite video dataset is built for video scene classification, including 7209 video segments and covering 8 scene categories. These satellite videos are from Jilin-1 satellites and Urthecast. The experimental results show the efficiency of our proposed framework for SVSC. | Yanfeng GU Huan LIU Tengfei WANG Shengyang LI Guoming GAO | 2020 | Science China(Information Sciences)2020,63,4: | 4

Laminar Distribution of Neurochemically-Identified Interneurons and Cellular Co-expression of Molecular Markers in Epileptic Human Cortex显示文摘Inhibitory GABAergic interneurons are fundamental elements of cortical circuits and play critical roles in shaping network activity. Dysfunction of interneurons can lead to various brain disorders, including epilepsy, schizophrenia, and anxiety. Based on the electrophysiological properties, cell morphology, and molecular identity, interneurons could be classified into various subgroups. In this study, we investigated the density and laminar distribution of different interneuron types and the coexpression of molecular markers in epileptic human cortex. We found that parvalbumin(PV) and somatostatin(SST)neurons were distributed in all cortical layers except layer I, while tyrosine hydroxylase(TH) and neuropeptide Y(NPY) were abundant in the deep layers and white matter.Cholecystokinin(CCK) neurons showed a high density in layers IV and VI. Neurons with these markers constituted*7.2%(PV), 2.6%(SST), 0.5%(TH), 0.5%(NPY), and4.4%(CCK) of the gray-matter neuron population. Doubleand triple-labeling revealed that NPY neurons were also SST-immunoreactive(97.7%), and TH neurons were more likely to express SST(34.2%) than PV(14.6%). A subpopulation of CCK neurons(28.0%) also expressed PV, but none contained SST. Together, these results revealed the density and distribution patterns of different interneuron populations and the overlap between molecular markers in epileptic human cortex. | Qiyu Zhu Wei Ke Quansheng He Xiongfei Wang Rui Zheng Tianfu Li Guoming Luan Yue-Sheng Long Wei-Ping Lia Yousheng Shu | 2018 | Neuroscience Bulletin2018,34,6: | 3
Elevated expression of EBV and TLRs in the brain is associated with Rasmussen's encephalitis显示文摘Rasmussen's encephalitis(RE) is a rare pediatric neurological disorder, the etiology of which remains unclear. It has been speculated that the immunopathogenesis of RE involves damage to neurons, which eventually leads to the occurrence of RE. Viral infection may be a critical factor in triggering RE immunopathogenesis. In this study, we analyzed the expression of Epstein-Barr virus(EBV) antigens as well as of Toll-like receptor 3(TLR3), TLR9, and downstream adapter TIRdomain-containing adapter-inducing interferon-β(TRIF) in the brain tissues of 26 patients with RE and 16 control individuals using immunohistochemistry(IHC). In the RE group, EBV antigens were detected in 53% of individuals at various expression levels. In contrast, there was no detectable EBV antigen expression in control brain tissues. Moreover, we found marked increases in the expression of TLR3, TLR9, and TRIF in the brain tissues of RE patients compared with levels in the control group. Furthermore, among RE cases, EBV expression and high TLR3 expression were associated with more severe brain atrophy. Our results suggest that the elevated expression of EBV and TLRs may be involved in RE occurrence through the activation of downstream molecules. | Xin Wang Yisong Wang Dong Liu Peigang Wang Dongying Fan Yuguang Guan Tianfu Li Guoming Luan Jing An | 2017 | Virologica Sinica2017,32,5: | 3
