Third-order point contact approach for five-axis sculptured surface machining using non-ball-end tools (Ⅰ): Third-order approximation of tool envelope surface显示文摘In this paper, the geometric properties of a pair of line contact surfaces are investigated. Then, based on the observation that the cutter envelope surface contacts with the cutter surface and design surface along the characteristic curve and cutter contact (CC) path, respectively, a mathematical model describing the third-order approximation of the cutter envelope surface according to just one given cutter location (CL) is developed. It is shown that at the CC point both the normal curvature of the normal section of the cutter envelope surface and its derivative with respect to the arc length of the normal section can be determined by those of the cutter surface and design surface. This model characterizes the intrinsic relationship among the cutter surface, cutter envelope surface and design surface in the neighborhood of the CC point, and yields the mathematical foundation for optimally approximating the cutter envelope surface to the design surface by adjusting the cutter location. | ZHU LiMin1, DING Han2 & XIONG YouLun2 1 State Key Laboratory of Mechanical System and Vibration, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 200240, China 2 State Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074, China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,7: | 25
Global optimization of tool path for five-axis flank milling with a cylindrical cutter显示文摘In this paper, optimum positioning of cylindrical cutter for five-axis flank milling of non-developable ruled surface is addressed from the perspective of surface approximation. Based on the developed interchangeability principle, global optimization of the five-axis tool path is modeled as approximation of the tool envelope surface to the data points on the design surface following the minimum zone criterion recommended by ANSI and ISO standards for tolerance evaluation. By using the signed point-to-surface distance function, tool path plannings for semi-finish and finish millings are formulated as two constrained optimization problems in a unified framework. Based on the second order Taylor approximation of the distance function, a sequential approximation algorithm along with a hierarchical algorithmic structure is developed for the optimization. Numerical examples are presented to confirm the validity of the proposed approach. | DING Han1 & ZHU LiMin2 1 State Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074, China 2 School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 200240, China | 2009 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2009,52,8: | 23
Third-order point contact approach for five-axis sculptured surface machining using non-ball-end tools(II): Tool positioning strategy显示文摘Based on the mathematical model describing the third-order approximation of the cutter envelope surface according to one given cutter location(CL),a tool positioning strategy is proposed for efficiently machining free-form surfaces with non-ball-end cutters. The optimal CL is obtained by adjusting the inclination and tilt angles of the cutter until its envelope surface and the design surface have the third-order contact at the cutter contact(CC)point, which results in a wide machining strip. The strategy can handle the constraints of machine joint angle limits, global collision avoidance and tool path smoothness in a nature way,and can be applied to general rotary cutters and complex surfaces.Numerical examples demonstrate that the third-order point contact approach can improve the machining strip width greatly as compared with the recently reported second-order one. | ZHU LiMin 1 ,DING Han 2 &XIONG YouLun 2 1State Key Laboratory of Mechanical System and Vibration,Shanghai Jiao Tong University,Shanghai 200240,China 2State Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology,Huazhong University of Science and Technology,Wuhan 430074, China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,8: | 23

The anti-photooxidation of anthocyanins-rich leaves of a purple rice cultivar显示文摘In the leaf of rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivar Yunnan purple rice, the anthocyanins with an obvious absorption peak at 530nm were distributed in the cells of upper and lower epidermis, bulliform tissue and bristle. The maximal photosynthetic oxygen evolution rate and chlorophyll content in flag leaves were 28% and 23%,respectively,more than the common green leaf rice cultivar Chijiaoru-anzhan. Higher chlorophyll content is probably one of the physiological adaptations for enhancing light harvesting capacity of the antenna in photosystems in this cyanic leaves species. Upon the photooxidation of leaf segments mediated by methyl viologen in weak light for 3 days, the distinct bleaching of anthocyanins in purple rice was associated with the reduction of scavenging ability to DPPH· free radical ability and the increase in membrane leakage rate. But almost no changes in contents of flavonoids and total phenolics were observed. Chlorophyll fluorescence parameters Fv/Fo,qP and φPSⅡ decreased with the increase in NPQ and DES of xanthophylls cycle after photooxidation treatment. Green rice leaves showed more decrease in DPPH· scavenging rate and more increase in cell membrane leakage rate but showed a trace of anthocyanins during photooxidation. It is sug-gested that anthocyanin may be a beneficial and primary antioxidant in sun cyanic rice leaves against oxidative stress induced by environmental adversity. And photooxidation could induce different changing patterns of anthocyanins between the tested purple and green rice leaves. | PENG Changlian1,2,LIN Zhifang2,LIN Guizhu2 & CHEN Shaowei2 1. | 6 | Information flow and controlling in regularization inversion of quantitative remote sensing显示文摘In order to minimize uncertainty of the inversed parameters to the largest extent by making full use of the limited information in remote sensing data, it is necessary to understand what the information flow in quantitative remote sensing model inversion is, thus control the information flow. Aiming at this, the paper takes the linear kernel-driven model inversion as an example. At first, the information flow in different inversion methods is calculated and analyzed, then the effect of information flow controlled by multi-stage inversion strategy is studied, finally, an information matrix based on USM is defined to control information flow in inversion. It shows that using Shannon entropy decrease of the inversed parameters can express information flow more properly. Changing the weight of a priori knowledge in inversion or fixing parameters and partitioning datasets in multi-stage inversion strategy can control information flow. In regularization inversion of remote sensing, information matrix based on USM may be a better tool for quantitatively controlling information flow. | YANG Hua, XU Wangli, ZHAO Hongrui, CHEN Xue & WANG Jindi Research Center for Remote Sensing and GIS, School of Geography, Beijing Normal University, State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science, Beijing Key Laboratory for Remote Sensing of Environment and Digital Cities, Beijing 100875, China Department of Mathematics, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China | 2005 | Science China Earth Sciences2005,48,1: | 12
Large field of view computed laminography with the asymmetric rotational scanning geometry显示文摘X-ray computed laminography(CL)is used in the fields of industrial inspection and medical imaging. It can provide the internal structure three-dimensional(3D)information of a region of the objects nondestructively. It is important to the clinical diagnosis and the quality control of flat objects like printed circuit boards, aircraft wings and satellite solar panels. With the restriction that the imaging region must be within the X-ray beam formed by the X-ray source and the detector, the imaging field of view of CL is limited by the size of detector.A new CL method with an asymmetric rotational cone-beam scanning geometry, called large field of view CL,is presented to overcome the existing disadvantage. It can extend the imaging region when the imaging spatial resolution keeps the same as that of the conventional CL.It can also improve the imaging spatial resolution when the imaging region keeps the same as that of the conventional CL.The asymmetric configuration can be achieved by offsetting the detector from the conventional symmetric configuration. It does not, however, require new detectors and X-ray source nor alter the scanning mechanical system. The filtered back-projection(FBP)reconstruction algorithm and the data truncation smoothing functions have been deduced to reconstruct the images directly from the data acquired with this asymmetric configuration. We performed numerical studies and experiments to demonstrate and validate the proposed approach. Results in these studies and experiments confirm that the proposed method can enlarge the imaging region and improve the spatial resolution. The proposed approach may find applications in the CL system with the rotational scanning geometry. | FU Jian 1,2 ,JIANG BaiHong&LI Bin 1 School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation,Beihang University,Beijing 100191,China 2 Research Center of Digital Radiation Imaging and Biomedical Imaging,Beihang University,Beijing 100191,China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,8: | 12

Optical properties of the micro/nano structures of Morpho butterfly wing scales显示文摘The micro/nano structures of the wing scales in Morpho butterfly are responsible for the structural coloration, with a major part ascribed to interference and diffraction of light. The optical properties of the butterfly wings were investigated by simulating a two-dimensional model using rigorous coupled-wave analysis technique. It is proved that they depend strongly on the structural parameters, incidence angle and refractive index. The peak value and the peak wavelength of the reflection efficiency increase as the vertical periodic thickness increases. The peak value decreases observably, while both of the bandwidth and the peak wavelength increase when the number of the vertical periods decreases.Increase of the horizontal periodic width causes a decrease of the peak value and an increase of the peak wavelength, although the variations are small. The peak value decreases distinctly and the peak wavelength increases as the ambient refractive index increases, which corresponds to the variation in ambient conditions. The research reveals the mechanisms of the brilliant structural color in Morpho butterfly, and is of great significance to the design, manufacture and applications of the bionic micro/nano structures for gas detection. | LIAO GuangLan,ZUO HaiBo,CAO YanBo & SHI TieLin State Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology,Huazhong University of Science and Technology,Wuhan 430074,China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,1: | 10
Synchronous estimation of DTM and fractional vegetation cover in forested area from airborne LIDAR height and intensity data显示文摘We proposed a method to separate ground points and vegetation points from discrete return, small footprint airborne laser scanner data, called skewness change algorithm. The method, which makes use of intensity of laser scanner data,is especially applicable in steep, and forested areas. It does not take slope of forested area into account, while other algorithms consider the change of slope in steep forested area. The ground points and vegetation points can be used to estimate digital terrain model(DTM) and fractional vegetation cover, respectively.A few vegetation points which were classified into the ground points were removed as noise before the generation of DTM.This method was tested in a test area of 10000 square meters.A LiteMapper -5600 laser system was used and a flight was carried out over a ground of 700―800 m.In this tested area,a total number of 1546 field measurement ground points were measured with a total station TOPCON GTS-602 and TOPCON GTS -7002 for validation of DTM and the mean error value is -18.5 cm and the RMSE(root mean square error) is ±20.9 cm.A data trap sizes of 4m in diameter from airborne laser scanner data was selected to compute vegetation fraction cover.Validation of fractional vegetation cover was carried out using 15 hemispherical photographs, which are georeferenced to centimeter accuracy by differential GPS.The gap fraction was computed over a range of zenith angles 10° using the gap light analyzer(GLA) from each hemispherical photograph. The R2 for the regression of fractional vegetation cover from these ALS data and the respective field measurements is 0.7554.So this study presents a method for synchronous estimation of DTM and fractional vegetation cover in forested area from airborne LIDAR height and intensity data. | BAO YunFei1,2,CAO ChunXiang1,ZHANG Hao1,CHEN ErXue3,HE QiSheng1,2,HUANG HuaBing1,LI ZengYuan3,LI XiaoWen1,4 & GONG Peng1 1 State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science, jointly sponsored by the Institute for Remote Sensing Applications of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Normal University,Beijing 100101,China 2 Graduate University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100049,China 3 Institute of Forest Resource Information Technique, the Chinese Academy of Forestry,Beijing 100091,China 4 Research Center for Remote Sensing and GIS,Department of Geography and Beijing Key Laboratory for Remote Sensing of Environment and Digital Sites,Beijing Normal University,Beijing 100875,China | 2008 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2008,51,S2: | 10
Retrieving crop leaf area index by assimilation of MODIS data into a crop growth model显示文摘Leaf area index (LAI) is an important parameter in monitoring crop growth. One of the methods for retrieving LAI from remotely sensed observations is through inversion of canopy reflectance models. Many model inversion methods fail to account for variable LAI values at different crop growth stages. In this research, we use the crop growth model to describe the LAI changes with crop growth, and consider a priori LAI values at different crop growth stages as constraint information. The key approach of this research is to assimilate multiple canopy reflectance values observed at different growth stages and a priori LAI values into a coupled crop growth and radiative transfer model sequentially using a variational data assimilation algorithm. Adjoint method is used to minimize the cost function. Any other information source can be easily incorporated into the inversion cost function. The validation results show that the time series of MODIS canopy reflectance can greatly reduce the uncertainty of the inverted LAI values. Compared with MODIS LAI product at Changping and Shunyi Counties of Beijing, this method has significantly improved the estimated LAI temporal profile. | WANG DongWei1,2,3, WANG JinDi1,2 & LIANG ShunLin4 1 State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science, Jointly Sponsored by Beijing Normal University and Institute of Remote Sensing Applications, CAS, Beijing 100875, China 2 School of Geography, Beijing Key Laboratory of Environmental Remote Sensing and Digital City, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China 3 Haihe River Water Conservancy Commission, Tianjin 300170, China 4 Department of Geography, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742, USA | 2010 | Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,5: | 8
A draft sequence of the rice (Oryza sativa ssp. indica) genome显示文摘The sequence of the rice genome holds fundamental information for its biology, including physiology, genetics, development, and evolution, as well as information on many beneficial phenotypes of economic significance. Using a 'whole genome shotgun' approach, we have pro-duced a draft rice genome sequence of Oryza sativa ssp. in-dica, the major crop rice subspecies in China and many other regions of Asia. The draft genome sequence is constructed from over 4.3 million successful sequencing traces with an accumulative total length of 2214.9 Mb. The initial assembly of the non-redundant sequences reached 409.76 Mb in length, based on 3.30 million successful sequencing traces with a total length of 1797.4 Mb from an indica variant cultivar 93-11, giving an estimated coverage of 95.29% of the rice genome with an average base accuracy of higher than 99%. | 13 | Quantitative estimation of the shrub canopy LAI from atmosphere-corrected HJ-1 CCD data in Mu Us Sandland显示文摘The leaf area index(LAI) is an important ecological parameter that characterizes the interface between vegetation canopy and the atmosphere. In addition,it is used by most process-oriented ecosystem models. This paper investigates the potential of HJ-1 CCD data combined with linear spectral unmixing and an inverted geometric-optical model for the retrieval of the shrub LAI in Wushen Banner of Inner Mongolia in the Mu Us Sandland.MODTRAN(Moderate Resolution Atmospheric Radiance and Transmittance Model) was used for atmospheric correction.Shrubland was extracted using the threshold of the normalized difference vegetation index, with which water bodies and farmland were separated,in combination with a vegetation map of the People's Republic of China(1:1000000).Using the geometric-optical model,we derive the per-pixel reflectance as a simple linear combination of two components, namely sunlit background and other. The fraction of sunlit background is related to the shrub LAI.With the support of HJ-1 CCD data,we employ linear spectral unmixing to obtain the fraction of sunlit background in an atmospherically corrected HJ image. In addition,we use the measured shrub canopy structural parameters for shrub communities to invert the geometric-optical model and retrieve the pixel-based shrub LAI.In total,18 sample plots collected in Wushen Banner of Inner Mongolia are used for validation. The results of the shrub LAI show good agreement with R2 of 0.817 and a root-mean-squared error of 0.173. | CHEN Wei1,2,CAO ChunXiang1,HE QiSheng1,2,GUO HuaDong3,ZHANG Hao1,2,LI RenQiang4,ZHENG Sheng1,2,XU Min1,2,GAO MengXu1,2,ZHAO Jian1,2,LI Sha1,NI XiLiang1,2,JIA HuiCong1,JI Wei1,TIAN Rong1,2,LIU Cheng1,2,ZHAO YuXing5 & LI JingLu6 1 State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science,Jointly Sponsored by the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Normal University,Beijing 100101,China 2 Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100049,China 3 Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100190,China 4 China Key Laboratory of Ecological Network Observation and Modeling,Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100101,China 5 Ordos Forestry Sand Control Science Institute,Dongsheng 017000,China 6 Inner Mongolia Biomass Thermoelectricity Limited Company,Wushen 017300,China | 2010 | Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,S1: | 6
Integral ear elimination and virtual point-based updating algorithms for constrained Delaunay TIN显示文摘Constrained Delaunay Triangular Irregular Networks (CD-TIN),a kind of special data structure, have many practical applications in Geoinformatics, especially in the representation of linear constrained triangulation for DTM and DSM,such as in digital city and digital mine. Past researches on D-TIN mainly focused on point in-sertion and deletion without consideration of constraint, and that on CD-TIN usu-ally paid more attention to the insertion algorithms for points and edges, but little to the deletion algorithms. The presented algorithms are far insufficient for the dy-namic updating of CD-TIN. In this paper, the constraint edge in CD-TIN is consid-ered to be any set of broken lines,i.e.,polygon edges, broken lines and simple segments. The constraint edge may be composed of one or more constraint seg-ments,and it is allowed to be in any form: Open or close, intersection or self-in-tersection. By improving to present insertion and deletion algorithms for D-TIN,two new algorithms for CD-TIN updating are presented. According to the polymorphism of the constraints in CD-TIN,virtual point is adopted to represent the crossing node between constraint edges when a constraint edge is inserted in CD-TIN. Two new algorithms named as Integral Ear Elimination (IEE) and Influence Domain Retrian-gulation for Virtual Point (IDRVP) are presented, the former is for constraint point deletion, while the later is for the insertion and deletion of constraint edge. The principle of IDRVP is that to divide the influence domain of a virtual point into some parts by the constraint-keeping edges, and to retriangulate each part of the influ-ence domain individually referring to the constraint visible property and constraint empty circle (CEC) criterion. Finally,a prototype system is developed with VC++,one case on the integration of 3D terrain and buildings is demonstrated to test the correctness of new algorithms. It shows that the new algorithms are effective for the updating of CD-TIN. | WU LiXin1,2,WANG YanBing2,3 & SHI WenZhong2,4 1 Institute for Geo-informatics & Digital Mine Research,Northeastern University,Shenyang 110004,China 2 Institute for GIS/RS/GPS & Subsidence Engineering Research,China University of Mining & Technology,Beijing 100085,China 3 Laboratory of 3D Information Acquisition & Application,Capital Normal University,Beijing 100037,China 4 Center for Advanced GIS Research,LSGI,Polytechnic University Hong Kong,Hong Kong,China | 2008 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2008,51,S1: | 5
Thermostability of photosynthesis in two new chlorophyll b-less rice mutants显示文摘Leaves of the two new chlorophyll b-less rice mutants VG28-1, VG30-5 and the wild type rice cv. Zhonghua 11 were subjected to temperatures 28, 36, 40, 44 and 48℃ in the dark for 30 min or gradually elevated temperature from 30℃ to 80℃ at 0.5℃/min. The thermostability of photosynthetic apparatus was estimated by the changes in chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, photosynthetic rate and pigment content, chloroplast ultrastructure and tissue location of H2O2 accumulation. There were different patterns of Fo-temperature curves between the Chl b-less mutants and the wild type plant, and the temperature of Fo rising threshold was shifted 3℃ lower in the Chl b-less mutants (48℃) than in the wild type (51℃). At temperature up to about 45℃, chloroplasts were swollen and thylakoid grana became misty accompanied with the complete loss of photosynthetic oxygen evolution in the two Chl b-less mutants, but chloroplast ultrastruc- ture in the wild type showed no obvious alteration. After 55℃ exposure, the disordered thylakoid and significant H2O2 accumulation in leaves were found in the two Chl b-less mutants, whereas in the wild type plant, less H2O2 was accumulated and the swollen thylakoid still maintained a cer- tain extent of stacking. A large extent of the changes in qP, NPQ and Fv/Fm was consistent with the Pn decreasing rate in the Chl b-less mutants during high temperature treatment as compared with the wild type. The results indicated that the Chl b-less mutants showed a tendency for higher thermosensitivity, and loss of Chl b in LHC II could lead to less thermostability of PSII structure and function. Heat damage to photosynthetic apparatus might be partially attributed to the in- ternal oxidative stress produced at severely high temperature. | LIN Zhifang1,PENG Changlian1,Xu Xinlan1,LIN Guizhu 1 & ZHANG Jingliu2 1.South China Institute of Botany,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Guangdong Key Laboratory of Digital Botanical Garden,Guangzhou 510650,China 2.National Key Laboratory of Plant Molecular Genetics,Institute of Plant Physiology & Ecology,Shanghai Institutes of Biological Sci- ences,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Shanghai 200032,China | 2005 | Science China(Life Sciences)2005,48,2: | 4

Induced electromagnetic stirring behavior in a resistance spot weld nugget显示文摘A multi-physics hybrid numerical model, which couples electric, magnetic, thermal and flow fields, was used to investigate electromagnetic stirring behavior in a resistance spot weld nugget. The differences of two kinds of different excitation inputs,i.e.,a sinusoidal current and its root-mean-square(RMS) value, were studied to examine if they could produce equivalent electromagnetic stirring effects in the weld nugget.Research showed that the two types of current inputs could produce almost identical fluid flow and heat transfer patterns and consistent evolution of flow and thermal fields in the nugget. At the end of the welding cycles, the maximum flow velocity and temperature between the two inputs differed by 11.6% and 0.3%,respectively.Therefore,the RMS current can be assumed to produce an approximately equivalent electromagnetic stirring effect with the sinusoidal current, and can be used in the future research to greatly improve the solution efficiency of the electromagnetic stirring behavior in the resistance spot weld nugget. | LI YongBing1,LIN ZhongQin1,2,LAI XinMin1,2,CHEN GuanLong1,2 & ZHANG Ke3 1 Shanghai Key Laboratory of Digital Autobody Engineering,Shanghai Jiao Tong University,Shanghai 200240,China 2 State Key Laboratory of Mechanical System and Vibration,Shanghai Jiao Tong University,Shanghai 200240,China 3 Welding Engineering Institute,Shanghai Jiao Tong University,Shanghai 200240,China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,5: | 2
