Prospects of utilization of waste dumped low-grade limestone for iron making: A case study显示文摘Low grade dumped limestone sample having high silica of 8.1%, 36.8% CaO, and 3% Al2O3 has been studied with the aim to reduce the silica level to below 3% for its utilization in iron making. Beneficiation study of the sample was initiated with desliming of the feed sample of -100 μm to remove the siliceous ultrafine particles and to improve the feed quality. Flotation study was carried out by column flotation technique varying the collector dosage, superficial air flow velocity and froth depth to assess their effect on silica reduction and CaO recovery. It was observed that increased collector dosage and superficial air velocity increases the recovery of CaO, and increase in the froth depth reduces the mass flow and silica content in the concentrate. The best result was found at 1.25 cm/sec superficial air velocity, 25 cm froth depth, 1.25 kgpt collector dosage and concentrate assayed 47.3% CaO, 2.8% silica with 72% CaO recovery. | Shobhana Dey Laxmikanta Sahu Binish Chaurasia Bibhuranjan Nayak | 2020 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2020,30,3: | 15
Bmi-1:At the crossroads of physiological and pathological biology显示文摘Bmi-1 is a member of the Polycomb repressor complex 1 that mediates gene silencing by regulating chromatin structure and is indispensable for self-renewal of both normal and cancer stem cells.Despite three decades of research that have elucidated the transcriptional regulation,post-translational modifications and functions of Bmi-1 in regulating the DNA damage response, cellular bioenergetics, and pathologies, the entire potential of a protein with such varied functions remains to be realized. This review attempts to synthesize the current knowledge on Bmi-1 with an emphasis on its role in both normal physiology and cancer.Additionally, since cancer stem cells are emerging as a new paradigm for therapy resistance, the role of Bmi-1 in this perspective is also highlighted. The wide spectrum of malignancies that implicate Bmi-1 as a signature for stemness and oncogenesis also make it a suitable candidate for therapy.Nonetheless, new approaches are vitally needed to further characterize physiological roles of Bmi-1 with the long-term goal of using Bmi-1 as a prognostic marker and a therapeutic target. | Resham Bhattacharya Soumyajit Banerjee Mustafi Mark Street Anindya Dey Shailendra Kumar Dhar Dwivedi | 2015 | Genes & Diseases2015,2,3: | 15
Influence of bank vegetation and gravel bed on velocity and Reynolds stress distributions显示文摘This paper presents the results of a laboratory flume experimental study on the interaction of bank vegetation and gravel bed on the flow velocity(primarily on the location of the maximum velocity,Umax) and the Reynolds stress distributions. The results reveal that the dip of the maximum velocity below the water surface is up to 35% of flow depth and the difference between Umax and the velocity at the water surface is considerable in the presence of vegetation on the walls. The zone of the log-law varies from y/h=2 up to 15 percent of flow depth and it does not depend on distance from the wall. Deviation of the velocity profile in the outer layer over a gravel bed with vegetation cover on the walls is much larger than the case of flow over a gravel bed without vegetation cover on the walls. The presence of vegetation on the walls changes uniform flow to non-uniform flow. This fact can be explained by considering the nonlinear Reynolds stress distribution and location of maximum velocity in each profile at different distances across the flume. The Reynolds stress distributions at the distance 0.02 m from the wall have negative values and away from the wall, they change the sign taking positive values with specific convex form with apex in higher location. Average of von Karman constant κ for this study is equal to 0.16. Based on κ=0.16,the methods of Clauser and the Reynolds stress are compatible for determination of shear velocity. | Hossein AFZALIMEHR Subhasish DEY | 2009 | International Journal of Sediment Research2009,24,2: | 14
Mineralogy and carbothermal reduction behaviour of vanadium-bearing titaniferous magnetite ore in Eastern India显示文摘Vanadium-bearing titaniferous magnetite bands hosted by Precambrian gabbro-norite-anorthositic rocks or their metamorphic equivalents were discovered in some parts of Eastern Indian Shield, containing 48%-49%Fe(total),10%-25%TiO2,and 0.3%-2.20%V2O5by mass.Mineralogical and petrological study, composition, and characterization of the vanadium-bearing titaniferous magnetite ore were carried out by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray(SEM-EDX),wave length X-ray florescence(WDXRF),inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy(ICP-AES),X-ray difraction(XRD),etc.Chemical beneficiation for valuable metals, such as Fe,Ti,and V,was performed by reduction roasting. The direct and indirect reduction were investigated by mixing the lump ore with solid activated charcoal in a closed reactor and purging the reducing gas mixture in standard reducibility index apparatus at diferent temperatures and time intervals. The reduction roasting parameters were optimized. Finally, the reduced samples were crushed and upgraded by magnetic separation. The results show that, the maximum mass fractions of magnetic and nonmagnetic parts achieved are 69.36%and 30.64%,respectively,which contain 10.6%TiO2and 0.84%V2O5in the magnetic part and 36.5%TiO2and 0.22%V2O5in the nonmagnetic part. | Saikat Samanta Manik Chandra Goswami Tapan Kumar Baidya Siddhartha Mukherjee Rajib Dey | 2013 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2013,20,10: | 9
EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON INCIPIENT MOTION OF SEDIMENT PARTICLES ON GENERALIZED SLOPING FLUVIAL BEDS显示文摘This paper presents an experimental investigation on incipient motion of non-cohesive uniform sediment under a steady-uniform stream flow on generalized sloping fluvial beds (combined lateral and stream-wise slope). The characteristic parameters affecting the incipient motion of sediment particles, identified based on the physical reasoning and dimensional analysis, are the threshold shear stress ratio (ratio of threshold shear stress for sloping bed to that for horizontal bed), lateral slope, stream-wise slope and angle of repose of sediment particles. Experiments were carried out in two ducts (closed-conduit flow) having section of semicircular invert with three types of sediments. In an open channel flow (laboratory flume study), the uniform flow is a difficult, if not impossible, proposition for a steeply sloping channel and is impossible to obtain in an adversely sloping channel. To avoid this problem, the tests were conducted with a closed-conduit flow. Equation of critical bed shear stress for the initial movement of sediment particles on generalized sloping beds was obtained using the experimental data. | Subhasish DEY Asst. | 7 | Forecasting of Software Reliability Using Neighborhood Fuzzy Particle Swarm Optimization Based Novel Neural Network显示文摘This paper proposes an artificial neural network(ANN) based software reliability model trained by novel particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm for enhanced forecasting of the reliability of software. The proposed ANN is developed considering the fault generation phenomenon during software testing with the fault complexity of different levels. We demonstrate the proposed model considering three types of faults residing in the software. We propose a neighborhood based fuzzy PSO algorithm for competent learning of the proposed ANN using software failure data. Fitting and prediction performances of the neighborhood fuzzy PSO based proposed neural network model are compared with the standard PSO based proposed neural network model and existing ANN based software reliability models in the literature through three real software failure data sets. We also compare the performance of the proposed PSO algorithm with the standard PSO algorithm through learning of the proposed ANN. Statistical analysis shows that the neighborhood fuzzy PSO based proposed neural network model has comparatively better fitting and predictive ability than the standard PSO based proposed neural network model and other ANN based software reliability models. Faster release of software is achievable by applying the proposed PSO based neural network model during the testing period. | Pratik Roy Ghanshaym Singha Mahapatra Kashi Nath Dey | 2019 | IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2019,6,6: | 7

Geochemical characteristics of mafic and ultramafic rocks from the Naga Hills Ophiolite, India:Implications for petrogenesis显示文摘The Naga Hills Ophiolite(NHO) represents one of the fragments of Tethyan oceanic crust in the Himalayan Orogenic system which is exposed in the Phek and Kiphire districts of Nagaland, India. The NHO is composed of partially serpentinized dunite, peridotite, gabbro, basalt, minor plagiogranite, diorite dyke and marine sediments. The basalts are mainly composed of fine grained plagioclase feldspar, clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene and show quenching and variolitic textures. The gabbros are characterized by medium to coarse grained plagioclase, orthopyroxene and clinopyroxene with ophitic to sub-ophitic textures. The ultramafic cumulates are represented by olivine, Cpx and Opx.Geochemically, the basalts and gabbros are sub-alkaline to alkaline and show tholeiitic features. The basalts are characterized by 44.1-45.6 wt.% of SiO_2 with 28-38 of Mg#, and the gabbros by38.7-43.7 wt.% of SiO_2, and 26-79 of Mg#. The ultramafic rocks are characterized by 37.4-52.2 wt.% of SiO_2, and 80-88 of Mg#. In multi-element diagrams(spidergrams) both basalts and gabbros show fractionated trends with strong negative anomalies of Zr. Nb. Sr and a gentle negative anomaly of P.However, the rare earth element(REE) plots of the basalts and gabbros show two distinct patterns. The first pattern, represented by light REE(LREE) depletion, suggests N-MORB features and can be interpreted as a signature of Paleo-Tethyan oceanic crust. The second pattern, represented by LREE enrichment with negligible negative Eu anomaly, conforms to E-MORB, and may be related to an arc tectonic setting. In V vs. Ti/1000, Cr vs. Y and AFM diagrams, the basalts and gabbros plot within Island Arc Tholeiite(IAT) and MORB fields suggesting both ridge and arc related settings. The ultramafic rocks exhibit two distinct patterns both in spidergrams and in REE plots. In the spidergram, one group displays highly enriched pattern, whereas the other group shows near flat pattern compared to primordial mantle. In the REE plot, one group displays steeper slopes [(La/Yb)N = 4.340-4.341], whereas the other displays moderate to flat slopes [(La/Yb)N = 0.97-1.67] and negative Eu-anomalies. Our study suggests that the ultramafic rocks represent two possible mantle sources(fertile and refractory). | Ajoy Dey M.Faruque Hussain Mrigendra N.Barman | 2018 | Geoscience Frontiers2018,9,2: | 7
Gut microbiota mediated molecular events and therapy in liver diseases显示文摘Gut microbiota is a community of microorganisms that reside in the gastrointestinaltract. An increasing number of studies has demonstrated that the gutliveraxis plays a critical role in liver homeostasis. Dysbiosis of gut microbiota cancause liver diseases, including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and alcoholic liverdisease. Preclinical and clinical investigations have substantiated that themetabolites and other molecules derived from gut microbiota and diet interactionfunction as mediators to cause liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and final cancer. This effecthas been demonstrated to be associated with dysregulation of intrahepaticimmunity and liver metabolism. Targeting these findings have led to thedevelopment of novel preventive and therapeutic strategies. Here, we review thecellular and molecular mechanisms underlying gut microbiota-mediated impacton liver disease. We also summarize the advancement of gut microbiota-basedtherapeutic strategies in the control of liver diseases. | Xiaoqiang Qi Ming Yang Joseph Stenberg Rahul Dey Leslie Fogwe Muhammad Shawkat Alam Eric TKimchi Kevin F Staveley-O'Carroll Guangfu Li | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,48: | 5
Multi-item EPQ model with learning effect on imperfect production over fuzzy-random planning horizon显示文摘Uncertainty is certain in the world of uncertainty. This study revisits an economic production quantity(EPQ)model with shortages for stock-dependent demand of the items with reworking and disposing of the imperfect ones over a random planning horizon under the joint effect of inflation and time value of money, where the expected time length is imprecise in nature.Transmission of learning effect has been incorporated to reduce the defective production. The total expected profit over the random planning horizon is maximized subject to the imprecise space constraint. The possibility, necessity and credibility measures have been introduced to defuzzify the model. The simulation-based genetic algorithm is used to make decision for the above EPQ model in different measures of uncertainty. The model is illustrated through an example.Sensitivity analysis shows the impacts of different parameters on the objective function in the model. | Amalesh Kumar Manna Barun Das Jayanta Kumar Dey Shyamal Kumar Mondal | 2017 | Journal of Management Analytics2017,4,1: | 5
Erythropoietin modulates bone marrow stromal cell differentiation显示文摘Erythropoietin is essential for bone marrow erythropoiesis and erythropoietin receptor on non-erythroid cells including bone marrow stromal cells suggests systemic effects of erythropoietin. Tg6 mice with chronic erythropoietin overexpression have a high hematocrit, reduced trabecular and cortical bone and bone marrow adipocytes, and decreased bone morphogenic protein 2 driven ectopic bone and adipocyte formation. Erythropoietin treatment(1 200 IU·kg–1) for 10 days similarly exhibit increased hematocrit, reduced bone and bone marrow adipocytes without increased osteoclasts, and reduced bone morphogenic protein signaling in the bone marrow. Interestingly, endogenous erythropoietin is required for normal differentiation of bone marrow stromal cells to osteoblasts and bone marrow adipocytes.ΔEpoR_E mice with erythroid restricted erythropoietin receptor exhibit reduced trabecular bone, increased bone marrow adipocytes, and decreased bone morphogenic protein 2 ectopic bone formation. Erythropoietin treated ΔEpoR_E mice achieved hematocrit similar to wild-type mice without reduced bone, suggesting that bone reduction with erythropoietin treatment is associated with non-erythropoietic erythropoietin response. Bone marrow stromal cells from wild-type,Tg6, and ΔEpoR_E-mice were transplanted into immunodeficient mice to assess development into a bone/marrow organ. Like endogenous bone formation, Tg6 bone marrow cells exhibited reduced differentiation to bone and adipocytes indicating that high erythropoietin inhibits osteogenesis and adipogenesis, while ΔEpoR_E bone marrow cells formed ectopic bones with reduced trabecular regions and increased adipocytes, indicating that loss of erythropoietin signaling favors adipogenesis at the expense of osteogenesis. In summary, endogenous erythropoietin signaling regulates bone marrow stromal cell fate and aberrant erythropoietin levels result in their impaired differentiation. | Dipankar DEY Abhijit BHOWMIK Ajay BISWAS | 2021 | Transactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China2021,31,5: | 4
An inventory model under development cost-dependent imperfect production and reliability-dependent demand显示文摘This paper considers a model that deals with an imperfect production process where both perfect and imperfect quality items are produced. Here, demand depends on selling price and reliability of the product. Each manufacturing company expects to produce perfect quality items. But due to the long-run process, several kinds of problem such as labor, machinery, and technology arise. As a result, the manufacturing system becomes out-of-control state and consequently produces both perfect and imperfect quality items.Perfect items are ready to sell but imperfect items are reworked at a cost to become perfect.Reworking cost, reliability of the product and reliability parameter of the manufacturing system can be improved by introducing the development cost and also by improving the quality of the raw material of the production system.Under such circumstances,a profit function has been developed to find the optimum values of reliability parameter of the manufacturing system, reliability of the product and duration of production such that a manufacturer gets a maximum profit. Finally, the model has been illustrated with some numerical examples exploring the sensitivity analysis with respect to some parameters. | Barun Khara Jayanta Kumar Dey Shyamal Kumar Mondal | 2017 | Journal of Management Analytics2017,4,3: | 4
Design of a Proportional-Integral-Derivative Controller for an Automatic Generation Control of Multi-area Power Thermal Systems Using Firefly Algorithm显示文摘Essentially, it is significant to supply the consumer with reliable and sufficient power. Since, power quality is measured by the consistency in frequency and power flow between control areas. Thus, in a power system operation and control, automatic generation control(AGC) plays a crucial role. In this paper, multi-area(Five areas: area 1, area 2, area 3, area 4 and area 5) reheat thermal power systems are considered with proportional-integral-derivative(PID) controller as a supplementary controller. Each area in the investigated power system is equipped with appropriate governor unit, turbine with reheater unit, generator and speed regulator unit. The PID controller parameters are optimized by considering nature bio-inspired firefly algorithm(FFA). The experimental results demonstrated the comparison of the proposed system performance(FFA-PID)with optimized PID controller based genetic algorithm(GAPID) and particle swarm optimization(PSO) technique(PSOPID) for the same investigated power system. The results proved the efficiency of employing the integral time absolute error(ITAE) cost function with one percent step load perturbation(1 % SLP) in area 1. The proposed system based FFA achieved the least settling time compared to using the GA or the PSO algorithms, while, it attained good results with respect to the peak overshoot/undershoot. In addition, the FFA performance is improved with the increased number of iterations which outperformed the other optimization algorithms based controller. | K.Jagatheesan B.Anand Sourav Samanta Nilanjan Dey Amira S.Ashour Valentina E.Balas | 2019 | IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2019,6,2: | 4
Alpha-tocopherol supplementation on chromium toxicity: a study on rat liver and kidney cell membrane显示文摘Membrane damage is one of the important consequence of chromium, an environmental toxicant, to produce cytotoxicity. α-tocopherol, a membrane protectant can be used to reduce the chromium-induced membrane damage. In the present study, the impact of chromium in presence and absence of α-tocopherol was studied on plasma membrane of liver and kidney in male Wistar rats (80—100 g body weight). Significant increase in membrane cholesterol level as well as significant decrease in membrane phospholipid level in chromium exposed ( 0.8 mg /100 g body weight/d, i.p., for 4 weeks) animals suggest structural alteration of both liver and kidney plasma memebrane. The alkaline phosphatase, total ATPase and Na +-K +-ATPase activities of plasma membrane were significantly decreased in both liver and kidney after chromium treatment. However, α-tocopherol (30 mg/100 g diet) supplementation can restrict the changes in these membrane-bound enzyme activities. Thus, the usefulness of dietary supplementation of α-tocopherol to restrain the chromium-induced membrane damage is suggested. | Sankar Kumar Dey Prasunpriya Nayak Somenath Roy | 2003 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2003,15,3: | 4
DID Code:A Bridge Connecting the Materials Genome Engineering Database w让h Inheritable Integrated Intelligent Manufacturing显示文摘A data identifier(DID)is an essential tag or label in all kinds of databases—particularly those related to integrated computational materials engineering(ICME),inheritable integrated intelligent manufacturing(I3M),and the Industrial Internet ofThings. With the guidance and quick acceleration of the developme nt of advanced materials,as envisioned by official documents worldwide, more investigations are required to construct relative numerical standards for material informatics. This work proposes a universal DID format consisting of a set of build chains, which aligns with the classical form of identifier in both international and national standards, such as ISO/IEC 29168-1:2000,GB/T 27766-2011,GA/T 543.2-2011,GM/T 0006-2012,GJB 7365-2011,SL 325-2014,SL 607-201&WS 363.2-2011,and QX/T 39-2005.Each build chain is made up of capital letters and numbers, with no symbols. Moreover, the total length of each build chain is not restricted, which follows the formation of the Universal Coded Character Set in the international standard of ISO/IEC 10646.Based on these rules, the proposed DID is flexible and convenient for extendi ng and sharing in and between various cloud-based platforms.Accordingly, classical two-dimensional(2D)codes,including the Hanxin Code,Lots Perception Matrix(LP)Code,Quick Response(Q.R)code,Grid Matrix(GM)code, and Data Matrix(DM)Code, can be constructed and precisely recognized and/or decoded by either smart phones or specific machines.By utilizing these 2D codes as the fingerprints of a set of data linked with cloud-based platforms, progress and updates in the composition-processing-structure-property-performance workflow process can be tracked spontaneously, paving a path to accelerate the discovery and manufacture of advanced materials and enhance research productivity, performance, and collaboration. | William Yi Wang Peixuan Li Deye Lin Bin Tang Jun Wang Quanmei Guan Qian Ye Haixing Dai Jun Gao Xiaoli Fan Hongchao Kou Haifeng Song Feng Zhou Jijun Ma Zi-Kui Liu Jinshan Li Weimin Liu | 2020 | Engineering2020,6,6: | 4
Assessment of bearing capacity of interfering strip footings located near sloping surface considering artificial neural network technique显示文摘The bearing capacity of interfering footings located near the slope face suffers from reduced bearing capacity due to the formation of the curtailed passive zone. Depending upon the position of the footing, their spacing and steepness of the slope different extents of bearing capacity reduction can be exhibited. A series of finite element investigation has been done with the aid of Plaxis 3 D v AE.01 to elucidate the influence of various geotechnical and geometrical parameters on the ultimate bearing capacity of interfering surface strip footings located at the crest of the natural soil slope. Based on the large database obtained from the numerical simulation, a6-8-1 Artificial Neural Network architecture has been considered for the assessment of the ultimate bearing capacity of interfering strip footings placed on the crest of natural soil slope. Sensitivity analyses have been conducted to establish the relative significance of the contributory parameters, which exhibited that for the stated problem, apart from shear strength parameters, the setback ratio and spacing of footing are the prime contributory parameters. | Rana ACHARYYA Arindam DEY | 2018 | Journal of Mountain Science2018,15,12: | 4

VORTEX FLOW FIELD IN A SCOUR HOLE AROUND ABUTMENTS显示文摘The three-dimensional flow field in a scour hole around different abutments under a clear water regime was experimentally measured in a laboratory flume, using the Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV). Three types of abutments used in the experiments were vertical-wall (rectangular section), 45° wing-wall (45° polygonal section) and semicircular. The threedimensional time-averaged velocity components were detected at different vertical planes for vertical-wall abutment and azimuthal planes for wing-wall and semicircular abutments. The velocity components were also measured at different horizontal planes. In the upstream, presentations of flow field through vector plots at vertical / azimuthal and horizontal planes show the existence of a primary vortex associated with the downflow inside the scour hole. On the other hand, in the downstream, the flow field shows a reversed flow near the abutments having a subsequent recovery with a passage of flow as a part of the main flow. The data presented in this paper would be useful to the researchers for the development and verification of mathematical models of flow field in a scour hole at bridge abutments. | Abdul Karim BARBHUIYA Subhasish DEY | 2003 | International Journal of Sediment Research2003,18,4: | 3
